Update.zip kernels for clockwork (save to your SD) - Vibrant Android Development

Okay i see a need for an update zip for clockwork. here is the kernel i extracted from stock ji6 and put in an update.zip package for the people having trouble and getting stuck after a Nandroid restore and not being able to boot.

Here's eugenes back kernel support that flashes the jfd kernel ji2 modem and should work with anybuild.

Back kernel support UNINSTALL.zip

Note: if you dont want the ji2 modem just flash a kernel.
I recommend you keep this on your SD card just in case a restore wont boot. Im sure this may help some

So I think I'm a little confused, is this a stock restore or for Clockwork? And if clockwork, is this a permanent flash or just what we have already (safe non flash)?

These are just stock kernels you can flash with clockwork mod.

Thanks for this but I have a question , say if I want to use 2.2 right but then I want to nandroid restore back to my 2.1 but the nandroid restore doesn't restore the kernel would I just flash the kernel then nandroid restore?

No you would do your nandroid restore and after its done it will boot into recovery again then you would install your kernel and then reboot

Well ji6 would let it boot but then you would need to flash jacks kernel.

AWESOME JOB OP!!! Lots of people have been asking for these lately.

Thank you, these will come in handy.
A lot of people are under the impression that nandroid backs up the kernel and subsequently get soft bricked when restoring from a custom ROM.
To create these for custom ROM's would one just unpack, replace the zImage and re-pack?

Can't figure what am I missing: I had ji6 kernel, flashed backsupport files and TW core v1, which worked fine, but I ran into an overheating issue and would like to go back to ji6. Saved the corresponding clockmod zip from this thread to sd, tried to flash - no go. What am I missing? Should I first "undo" backsupport somehow?

+1 perfect idea that I almost thought of (meaning I didn't...but should have)

Need a Rom

I need ROM to flash with Odin. Clockwork thing is not working for me and all the modded rom's are clockwork oriented. I am actually dying to install cynogen. Off late they stopped releasing odin versions. Somebody please suggest some rom better than the stock Froyo which is flashable using odin.
My phone is rooted and unlocked.
get clockwork working properly....so much is riding on clockwork...
have you asked for help making it work properly?

Exactly i am in leaked froyo ji6. I rooted it.
You have two options. Swap in a kernel that has 2e recovery or flash back to stock and then flash the rom of your choice.

What he said. I would use odin to flash stock

[Q] Odin not an option

Ok so I posted a thread earlier about how my usb drivers arent working at all so using odin to flash back to stock is not an option. I did however successfully root and install andromeda without them. Now heres the problem, I backed up the stock rom using rom manager. Anromeda installed a kernel and modem so I cant use rom manager to back up the rom unless I get the kernel and modem back. My question is could I somehow find the stock kernel file and use neldars sgs kernel flasher to flash the kernel back while still using the andromeda rom withouth having any problems? Also, will the modem affect my rom at all because I will change it as soon as i switch roms
H you can not flash a 2.1 Kernel on a 2.2 rom
Not sure what you are looking to do though
Im looking to install a different rom the problem is that I cant use odin because of the drivers not working. What im trying to say is if i flash the backup stock rom from rom manager its going to cause problems because its using andromedas kernel right?
Let me put it like this...is their another way to flash back to stock without using odin and without using a usb cable?

yes. you will need a CWM flashable zip of a 2.1 kernel and modem.
you would boot into CWM, flash that zip that includes kernel and modem, then restore your nandroid backup
ok thankyou!!! Ill try and locate the files myself but if anyone knows where they are and can tell me would be much appreciated.
why dont you just flash a 2.2 kernel with built-in clockwork mod recovery? you dont have to keep the kernel that came with your rom...
so... use sgs kernel flasher, why not? flash a new kernel then boot into its recovery (usually thrugh the power button menu on custom rom/kernels)...
Because I'm trying to install another custom rom, if i install a 2.2 kernel then flash back to.the stock rom which is 2.1 wont that cause problems?

Search jh7 ota design gears posted it a while back. Just must disable all lag fix before flash
ok so i found the file do i go into recovery and reinstall packages or choose zip file ?
With lag fix disabled
Select zip from sd, choose zip, jh7, confirm
Thank you man, helped out alot

Why bother flashing back to stock at all? Just flash the new Rom and save all the headaches having to screw with lagfix.

A better option would be to borrow a friends computer for a minute and fix everything properly...
If I flash a new rom while using Andromeda instead of stock wouldn't that cause.problems on the phone because of the.files being.mixed.or something

place on internal sd card

press reinstall packages
then reinstall packages again. should work for you.

Better safe than sorry, I just started contributing after quite some time now so I do not blame you one bit.
However...
That link is the CWM recovery for 2e bootloaders.
What ROM are you using?
You can always get ODIN 1.82 and flash an optimized kernel like hardcore's speedmod K9A which already has CWM.
EDIT: haha or you could just ODIN one-click to stock, root, and go CW Rom manager and from there flash recovery. I know that will work 100%, but that link is just a shortcut through all that nonsense.
Just flash clockworkmod recovery.
I had this problem the other day when I was trying to flash a new rom. I tried flashing CWM many times to no avail.
Like one of the previous repliers said, I flashed the speedmod kernel which had CWM already. The kernel can be found here.
Use Odin to flash it. After that, i could boot manually to CWM, but when i tried to boot to it through rom manager i was pushed to the stock recovery. In that case, I simply flashed my rom manually with CWM.
Theres also a good video on this for the i9000 which worked for me:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7xV0yE9ZcA
Hope this helps.

ROM Manager / Clockwork Mod question

I'm trying to install clockwork mod on the wifes captivate. Unlike mine, she doesn't want a custom rom, actually she doesn't want me messing with it at all lol! Anyway it's rooted and I ran the 3e recovery fix script for Froyo as her's is 2.2.
So I install ROM Manager to install cwm, select Captivate and it says not supported on your device, manually install a recovery first and run again. Ok so where does one get a cwm file to manually install? I looked on the clockwork site and it has rom & recovery files listed but unknown if that's it and if it's even compatible with 2.2? Anyone have a clue on this? I've search multiple threads and haven't found one with this particular issue.
Search for "update.zip"
You need a clockwork enabled kernel. Then RomManager will be able to install CW.

This is wrong.
To OP don't waste your time with Rom Manager. Flash a kernel with cwm baked in it (any i897 2.2 kernel should work) or as mrhaley30705 said update.zip.

what he said. flash any custom kernel, it has cwm built in. or do the update.zip method and make sure NEVER delete the file!!!!!!
but go with a custom kernel the have TONES of other cool options added. find one that is odin flashable and odin flash it...
here...
Odin3v1.85.zip
Onix kernel v2.0.5 made for android 2.2 search the forum for its thread to find all its options
boot phone into download mode (search)
plug in to computer
open odin
load the kernel into the PDA box.
press start

Curious how my statement is wrong? He asked why rom manager would not install clockwork and I told him. I said he needed a cwm compatible kernel, and you just repeated what I said except not to use rom manager?

there is no CWM compatible kernel. all custom kernels have CWM baked in. ROM manager is useless

holy christ. did you read this thread before replying to it?

Need a little assistance, please.

Hey guys, I'm helping a friend out with his bricked captivate, just wondering, is there a Odin .tar I can use to get him; 1 back to good health on any ROM; 2 have a stable custom recovery. Ty. Happy new years!

Read before posting...read the stickies....and you didnt mention what kind of brick....is it soft brick or hard brick...what kind of rom? Froyo or GB?
For all the odins for Stock roms and kernels
I decided to Odin a few of those, but, for whatever reason cwm recovery doesn't start up, goes to the 3e I try to reinstall packages, sends back signature errors.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Flash a kernel with CWM or find the modded 3e recovery fix.
Tried, both froyo and gingerbread with and without bootloader, with and without cwm also.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
You are doing something wrong. If you use a kernel that has cwm baked it there is no 3e it goes to cwm.
