[Q] Installing KingxKlick ROM on Rogers Dream - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I tried to install KingxKlick's Legend2G1 ROM onto my Rogers Dream. It's been rooted using the exploid method and I've successfully installed a few Cyanogenmod ROMs already. For some reason though, the KingxKlick ROM doesn't seem to want to stick - I flash it (using Amon-RA; SD Card formatted as directed in the thread) and it just sits at the Rogers splash, but never loads the ROM. I have DangerSPL and the latest EBI1 radio (since I had the E-911 update before rooting), and the SD card is partitioned properly (I think; FAT32/Ext4/Linux Swap), so I have no idea what's wrong.
Here's what I get in fastboot;
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA21000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-3.22.26.17
Any ideas?

This ROM is for EBI0 radios but you have EBI1. Either flash an EBI0 radio or find a kernel port.

So where could I find a compatible EBI1 radio? Will any due?

Thats an Eclair ROM right? If so, you can try one of bcrook's CM5 ports. I have no idea if it will work though.

Perfect SPL + 32B EBI1

Hi. So I got my HTC branded Dream two days ago. Things are going great but I'm getting the urge to mod. I seem to read different 'facts' everywhere. Also people use EBI1 and 32A interchangably. If you guys could could just tell me if I'm on the right track or about to kill my phone...
SPL states:
Dream PVT 32B SHip s-on d
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (DREA20000)
CPLD-4
radio-3.22.20.17
So thats a 32B board with a EBI1 radio with the perfect SPL.
To get to cyanogenMod 4.2.5 from stock:
1.) Install FlashRec 1.1.3
2.) Use to flash Cyanogen 1.4.32A recovery image (cm-recovery-1.4-32A.img)
3.) Boot to recovery and Flash normal Android 1.6 Recovery Image (signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip)
4.) Flash CyanogenMod ROM (update-cm-4.2.5-signed.zip)
5.) Flash EBI1 radio port (bc-4.2.5a-ebi1-signed.zip)
Questions:
Is that right?
Will the phone will be rooted in the process?
Can I change to developer SPL .0005 safely?
Can use any theme for regular G1s?
Does this mean I have 288MB?
Thx
and....? did it work?
You have to be rooted to do all that first.
It'll work, but you'll need specific 32B/EBI kernels for the ROMS. And not all EBI patches are alike.
And no, it won't magically give you extra memory.

Installing SPL 1.33.2005 (Haykuro SPL)

i'm about to install Hero by Maxisma v2.0.1 and need help to MAKE sure i don't brick. Requirements for it are "SPL 1.33.2005 (Called Haykuro SPL), and Partitions in this order: FAT32+EXT+SWAP" and when installing the SPL it says "MUST FLASH RADIO FIRST". so how do i make sure my G1 is compatible to work with the SPL and is there any guides for partitioning EXT+SWAP? i'm using Flash Cyanogen Recovery 1.4 and wanna thank you for the help.
Here's all my info from fastboot:
DREAM100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Sep 2 2008
and am i supposed to partition before or after installing the rom?
partition before flashing the rom.
you have the latest radio, so there is no need to flash the same radio again.
i followed this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ve8pUk9dC4, partitioned it, ran the sdl first, then the Hero by Maxisma v2.0.1 and have failed. it's looping on the G1 screen, could use some help asap

[Q] Which Rom to use for Rogers HTC dream 32B?

Can someone shade some light? I have a rooted HTC Dream from Rogers Canada showing the following information:

Now coming to downloading Rom images should I go with the one Compatible with:
HTC Dream (32a): RogersDream, Vodafone Dream or HTC Dream (32b): T-Mobile G1 / HTC ADP1
Please note mine has 32b board.
A) there is no such thing as a 32a dream
B) the radio determines the memory layout ebi0 for 1.x and 2.x radios, ebi1 for 3.x radios, nothing else works on a dream at this point in time
C) magic32a devices where the first with the ebi1 radio/kernel so many of the ebi1 roms are called 32a (the 32a radio does allow access to the extended memory on a 32a magic, however this is impossible on 32b magic/dreams due to the lack of phyisical ram)
D) you can switch to a 2.x radio with fastboot, only thimg to note: it may not be calabrated as well for 2g networks and if you are a rogers customer you may need to call to retain your data if the online wavier fails
Note use of recovery to flash a 2.x radio will brick your phone so don't do it that way.
As for what should you install, if there is no radio or spl in the upgrade.zip it will not brick your phone, if its for the wrong radio type it will not boot.. thus you need ebi1 roms unless you use fastboot to install an ebi0 radio.

I just dusted off my Rogers Dream and I'm running exactly what you posted above on CyanogenMod 6.0.0-DS.
I noticed your signature states Ginger Yoshi now for the Dream, what did you do or instructions did you follow?

[Q] Rogers HTC dream and ROM manager

k so I'm a noob and I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. I was however able to root my rogers dream and I’m now running Cyanogenmod-6.0.0-DS.
I recently purchased the premium version of “ROM manager”. The idea of being able to flash ROMS at will seems cool (although I don’t think there’s that many for my phone.)
The thing is, the ROM manager doesn’t work. The only thing it does is detect a newer version of the OS and download it. I can’t back up my current image or flash a new ROM. If I try, it just hangs at the Rogers screen FOREVER, and I have to take the battery out. Then it will reboot normally. I’ve followed any instructions I have found but nothing I try works.
Please help me! What am I doing wrong?!
You should post the specs of your phone (radio, spl and recovery version) when asking for help.
Got the same problem here. Have you found a solution?

THere is no "Rogers Dream" version of Clockwork recovery..
best is either one of two things:
1) select the "Magic" version when asked while flashing.. this will install the 32a magic recovery that will at least boot on the ebi1 rogers dream
2) install the 2708+ radio/kernel via fastboot and then the dream version.. recall however while that will work for clockwork the cyanogen mod version in RomManager is not 2708+ compatible.. make sure you get one of the other kernels. (also remember if you are with rogers they may cut your data if you have not signed the e911 wavier and use a radio other than the one you have.. yet 3g will be much more relyable on the 2708+ radio if you have signed the wavier.. and more ram)

[Q] No recov, No fastboot, but I have OS

I have a Rogers Dream/G1 with T-Mobile rc29 rom (doh!), which works and is usable but I want to get back to CM5. Please show me the way or put me out of my misery if its hopeless.
Recovery hangs at Tmobile G1 screen.
Fastboot gives me "00028002 Not Allow" code then is stuck with serial0.

Tried Adb to get amon-ra 1.7.0, but still won't boot into recovery and is stuck at G1 screen. No memory error, just an immediate echo of the "flash_image recovery data/local/recovery.img" command after I hit enter.
fastboot won't show my device in cmd when at the 4colored screen but adb does recognize.
I'm pretty sure I mixed up the radio and spl, but does having access to the OS give me any options?
Please, point me in the right direction.
****SOLVED**** see Post#20 for my conclusion.
Download clockwork recovery, flash clockwork, then you'll have recovery?
Not sure tho, I think this was how I did it.
I think what you're talking about is ROM Manager, it includes Clockwork Recovery if I understand the dev's description correctly. I haven't tried it myself though.
Seems to me, that he is on a stock ROM and doesn't have root access.
If the phone is booting, a chance could be, to install 1-click-root (don't know how it is called exactly, but you can google for it) and then from there to install a custom recovery. After that, you can install CM5 or something else. Probably first I would install is an engineering SPL (1.33.2003 for example) which supports fastboot. With your current SPL you will not have a chance to get fastboot running.
But be careful: 1.33.2003 supports only radio version 1.x and 2.x. I am not sure if 1.33.2003 is the best solution for you, because you have a rogers dream.
i recomend the old way.. get the fflashrecapk. and use io file manager to flash it.. only problem is you need to be 1.5 if your on 1.6 than you need to downgrade.. but that would be difficult since you have no recovery lol
While a bit more work.. before all the how to's confuse you into bricking your phone, I'd make yourself a gold card, and use it to flash the orange nbh from the 2708+ thread.. (rename to DREAIMG.nbh and place on the goldcard, then boot with camera+power it will ask you to flash it)
Once you have the orange rom you will have fastboot and a 2.x radio.. if you don't need the 3.22 radio .. just flash the 2708+ radio+spl+hboot as per normal followed by a rom.. if you do need the 3.22 radio (rogers customer who has not signed the wavier and wishes to keep data) either flash the rogers e911 update and re-root or 1.33.2005+3.22.26.17 and a rom
Sorry lack of links.
is it rooted?
maybe you can flash the recovery through terminal
Thanks for the replies, lots to research.
I'v tried a bunch of rooting methods.
exploid pushed from ADB said it worked (but didnt)
SuperOneClick said it worked after some rapid OFF-ON-OFF-ON debugging(but didnt install superuser even after reboot)
Universal androot forcecloses on launch
flashrec has the "download cyan...." button blocked out, tried renaming amon-ra to the recovery-backup.img and it said successful, but still is stuck at g1 screen.
I found another post with someone in the same situation at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-580669.html
They did the same thing by flashing the tmobile firmware 1.0 and we have the same numbers:

Firmware version: 1.0
Baseband Version: 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
Kernel Version: 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected]#6
Build Number: kila-user 1.0 TC4-R29 115247 ota-rel-keys,release-keys
When I start up (CAMERA + POWER) I get the following settings (on red/green/blue/white screen *sigh*)

Funny thing is I was so excited when SuperOneClick said it was successful and asked if I wanted to donate that I didnt even check if I had superuser before going through paypal. I'v wasted so many hours on this dinosaur G1 but damn I want it back to CM5. Please continue with the help.

ok ummm wow you did a lot lol are you sure you did the flaskrec.apk thing right? so as of right now your phone is not rooted? and you are on 1.0? if thats the case you should get automatic updates and hopefully that could help you.. if not try downloading rom manager than flash the clockwork recovery.. personally i hate clockwork but if you can get that to work than i could help you get back to RA if you would like..
Well its a one-click solution, I must have missed the options... I installed it and ran the back up, but the "download" button was grayed out. was I supposed to do something with the entry field?
Rom Manager gives me "Application install unsuccessful" using AndExplorer and I think Clockwork gave me this problem in the first place back when I was using CM6.

I think Ezterry's post (#6) is your best option
you don't mention you have tried that
you will need to do some research into goldcards and finding the orange.nbh link
hint for the orange see threads started by ezterry (via his profile) look at the kernel for 2708 thread
Ok thanks, I'v got my gold card made but is safe to flash 1.33.200* SPL with 1.22.12.29 Radio? Isnt it a DangerSPL? Sorry if thats way off base.

for the record
1.33.2003 is compatible with 1.x and 2.x radios but will brick with 3.x
1.33.2005 is compatible with 2.x and 3.x radios but will brick with 1.x
so 1.33.200* is only compatible with 2.x
read Ezterry's 2708 post, the answers you seek are in it
sorry for delay lol but with the flashrec file wat you do is press backup than when your typing in the box you have to put exactly what your file says...
ex.. sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.0.7-cyan.img (yours could be diff but make sure you type exactly what your file says that you placed on sd card) hope it helps
You guys are awesome, thank you everyone who was interested and especially ezterry, Effdee and Idrifta for the enduring help. I'm now on CM5.0.8 2708+ and loving it.
Final issue, I'm wondering about going to EBI1 to get 3.22 radio. Is it as simple as updating hboot to 1.33.2010 then flashing 3.22? Is it worth doing?
Again, sorry if that is way off base but this is the first week my phone has been usable in months, and I won't jeopardize it again.

Why ebi1 is equivalent to the old ebi0 and you loose the extra ram.
Thus unless there is a very specific reason it's a downgrade

Best stay as is or upgrade the radio to 2.22.28.25.. As it has been distributed world wide. (Including to all locations 2.22.27.08 was previously distributed)
what did you do?
I would like to know if you solved this issue as mine is similar. I DO have root though, but i have no recov/fastboot. I am using a dev phone though.
ps, grats on getting it working

If you flashed 0.95.0000 you are no longer using a dev phone (what do you see when you boot holding camera?)
The good news is that the ADP1 used the universal CID (11111111) and is thus not restricted to a particular carriers nbh file.. so you can probably just flash the orange nbh without the goldcard [just renamed DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SDCard], then follow the 2708+ radio instructions.. or install 1.33.2003/5 via fastboot if you need the old radio.
The reason I'm pointing to the orange nbh is it will let you bypass the whole "I bricked my phone because I insisted on flashing death SPL via recovery" since you have an engineering SPL and 2.x radio after flashing that orange NBH from the 2708+ thread.
This is what worked for me, going from:
- a non responsive recovery
- OS locked at activation, so no usb debugging
- OS refused to root
- quadicolored fastboot screen that wouldnt recognize usb
To CM5 2708+ with RA-cyan1.7.
Before this thread I had to use this to get post the verizon data plan only activation to enable usb debugging.
Made a goldcard
Put the orange nbh renamed to DREAIMG.nbh (can't remember where i got it from, just searched) on the goldcard, Booted with camera+power to get fastboot, and applied the update.
Followed ezterry's post and at step 5 flipped over to this post on CM5 2708+
Now I'm gonna update the radio using exterry's advanced zips. Thanks again everyone, another successful thread.
