[MOD] Epic 4G Camera Software on Vibrant - Vibrant Android Development

Before I Start:
DISCLAIMER: It is NOT my fault if this Breaks your Device, blah blah blah you know the drill
***THIS IS ONLY FOR VIBRANTS WITH THE FFC MOD***
***As stated by other members, This was meant for testing only, the I9000 camera app is better***
Ok, now that thats over, here it is, the Epic 4G camera software for you FFC-Modded Vibrant. This is just for testing. Once again: If you aren't FFC-Modded DO NOT Flash this.
How to Flash:
1. Download the attached ZIP, rename it to update.zip and put it on the root of your INTERNAL SD Card.
2. Open ROM Manager and boot into ClockWorkMod (DO NOT use Stock Recovery! I can't stress this enough)
3. Navigate down to "apply sdcard:update.zip" and click the power button. Navigate down to "YES" and click the power button.
4. Let it flash, and reboot. Wait for it to boot, try the Camera app and enjoy!
***Please Report any Bugs by posting your issues below, not in the Q&A Section, so as to not clog it up even more than out is.***

FFC does work, however, it shows the image rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise in the screen. It does appears right on the picture!. Camera app for i9000 seems to work ok (Running Eugene's Froyo)

I will provide screenshot tomorrow I already reflashed i9000 camera app, that is working fine. I will reflash the epic cam tomorrow and provide pics of both.
Either way, I believe taking the route of the i9000 makes more sense than using the epic, unless we all find and buy new cameras :S

The epic has a flash which impacts how the camera reacts.i9000 or captivate would be the better choice in my oppinion

[MOD]Captivate Camera Software on Vibrant

Now some may ask why I would want to do this? Well I watched a few video reviews on the Captivate, and I noticed their camera software was different, the menus were layed out differently, and honestly they are better organized.
You can switch scene modes with a button on the left side instead of drilling down into settings>page 2>scenes
The video recording is much better, it actually records as soon as you press the button instead of having to wait a few seconds before it starts recording. It also stops as soon as you hit stop with no delay or lag like there was on the stock software.
Overall I think it improves an already awesome camera.
Still has all the same camera modes and scene modes as the vibrant, so you won't be losing anything by flashing this
Installation:
Copy zip to internal SD
Reboot into Clockwork MOD recovery
Flash zip
Reboot and Enjoy!
EDIT: Added the Camera-Stock-signed.zip if you want to revert back to the original software
EDIT2: Tested out the Odexed build on a deodexed ROM, wasn't throwing any errors on flash, so I just simplified both zips into 1 zip. So flash away!
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wcCb6tbzY8 (Sorry for the blurry cam will update it shortly)
THANK YOU!
This is really a simple, awesome addition/mod to the phone, should have been the default camera app!
cheers.
Thanks for this! Definitely, quicker and more usable. Everything seems to work as advertised. Good catch!
Anyone have the stock app? I flashed this thinking I'd like it but for some reason I prefer the stock one. I'd greatly appreciate either another flashable ZIP or just the Camera.apk file.

Updated the first post, look in the attachments, there's a zip to flash back to the stock Camera app
Are we to flash both zip files or which one? There is an odexed one and a deodexed one.

if you are running a stock rom or other non deodexed rom, flash the odexed one, otherwise if you are running Vibrant4, or anomalous3's rom, flash the deodexed one.
EDIT: When in doubt, flash the Odexed one, if an error comes up during flash, that means you have a deodexed ROM and you should use the other one. If you try the deodexed one first, you will get no errors on install, but you will get force closes when using the camera.
EDIT2: Turns out the Odexed build which looks for 2 files that dont exsist on a deodexed build doesn't throw any errors anyways, so I'm just going to use that as the main update. removed the confusion of having 2 different updates
Thanks for the info. Its been a while since I've gone gungho mod crazy on my phone and I seem to have forgotten all of the lingo.
Thanks for the app and I will give it a try.
Working great. Thanks for this. Was missing the quick setting drawer thingy-ma-bob coming from a MT3GS.
Very cool. Good work
Thanks alot for this! I like it alot!
Seems to work
Ill leave feed back when i test it in the wild
Thanks for your work
Thanks a lot!
For me it was very buggy when I first launched it. Almost seemed to FC, but it kinda just went black.
After I relaunched the app it worked very well.
Thanks for Sharing.
I had messed with a friend's Captivate before I got my Vibrant and wondered why the camera was set up so weird compared to the Captivate.
Awesome mod, thanks OP. Works well on my Vibrant.
Thx for the mod but I really like the vibrant camera better my friend has a captivate and I don't care for his cam but hay everyone is different so thx I don't have any issues with my cam so I'd say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Its cool to see this work on the vibrant though.

I'd like to see that too. The video in the OP looks a lot like the camera app in my I9000. What did they do for the Vibrant?

di11i's ROM and Themes - Q&A

@everyone
ROM thread: link
ROM themes thread: link
I created this Q&A thread for this ROM to prevent tons of new threads about ROM specific questions from new users. Please feel free to post any questions here.
When posting a question, please make sure to mention:
ROM version
Kernel and version
Any theme, if applicable
Modem, if applicable
Also, please give some time for your question to be answered. Devs in particular are pretty busy churning out something or other for us. So be patient.
1. No question is too noobish, but please learn to do a search first, be it on this thread, or some other thread in this forum.
2. Before asking any questions regarding task killers and why they shouldn't be used, I would recommend reading this post: Android Memory Management

Glad to be of some help dilli. Thought this might help reduce Q&A style posts on the ROM thread.
I stopped even coming to 'dev' forums to look for ROMs since I know most ROMs now would be 2.2.1 based at the most, and well I feel I am on the best possible ROM already. Most of my time now is in the Q&A and General sections outside our three threads (ROM, themes, and this new Q&A now).
Sup my glitter ball bruthers,
Been using gballs sincemy first flash cuz it seemed to have the least problems and the best support and satisfaction....firstflashed 2/13. I am using suckerpunch #51 1ooomhz (so f'ing fast i need too slow down) also using dillis bluetheme and the latest add on
I was just wondering about modems. it seems there are newer modems than the one that is included with dilies6.0 .... jl2, i believe. Am i just confused or should i consider a different modem, if so why, or why not?
ive also noticed a new service since the newest addon other than the new keyboard service running all the time and periodically starting and restarting
It is called Sns service ... do i need this service?
If not how can i get rid of it?
Oh and,
Gballs Unite!!!!!!
Running di11i v6, unthemed, no mods/changes. (Been on it nearly 2 weeks....very nice.) Can't do adb remount - it returns Permission denied. Tried other threads suggestions to similar problem. TiBU works and shows busybox, SU shows TiBU as having root access. Reflashed di11i again along with TiBU but still having same issue.
Haven't ever had to post before - you guys do a great job; easy to follow along in other threads. I just can't seem to find an answer that works.
* Just noticed with adb shell> su the phone prompts for allowing SU permission for the shell. Even though I allowed it, I still can't remount (displays "operation not permitted" now). So it's definately not a problem with the ROM/add-ons - never really thought so but....if anyone has any ideas.
official 2.2 tomorrow.

Learning as much as I can from Mobile Tech Vids. Got the OC Di11i 6.0. How do I add the Blue theme. Downloaded your version 3 and 5 (want to put boot anni on the 5). I know the answer is starring me in the face, I'm just not seeing it. Thanx.
BTW- Been using Bay_Wolf's AIO Captivate toolbox. So...I've kinda been cheating and doing things the easy way....which means there's alot I'm not familiar with.
Also-If I change wallpapers, how do I get the Android wallpaper back without re-flashing the rom? (I'll prob keep comming up with a bunch of dumb questions, sorry. I hardly even know how to use this forum ex: what are stars and what's up with the thanks meter?)

Option 1 (simplest)
Apply 3, reboot, then apply 5. Simple and straight forward method if u do not want to mess around.
Option 2 (easy)
Apply 5.
Copy the zip attached to this post "as it is" into ur /system/media folder using an app like 'root explorer'.
Option 3 (depends on ur current skill level)
Open the v5 in winzip or winrar.
Create a folder called 'media' in the 'system' folder (the folder in which u see the 'framework' and 'app' folders).
Copy this zip 'as it is' into that.
Apply the updated v5.
Option 4 (simplest and easiest)
Check the links post (post 4). I will update with a link to v5 with boot animation included.
My mistake: I just downloaded the zip. It includes the boot animation Sorry about the confusion. Looks like I uploaded the zip with boot animation.
Biggest Noob you've ever seen!!!
I don't evenknow how to apply them in the first place. lol

Assuming u r on dilli's ROM, u would have clock work recovery console already loaded. Steps below based on that assumption:
1. Copy the theme zip to ur SD card root.
2. Boot into clockwork recovery mode (press n hold power button, and select recovery in the options there).
3. Install the zip file using the option 'apply zip from SD card', then 'select zip from sd card' and then selecting the theme zip file (words framed may not be exact but convey the same anyways).
Only if u r NOT on dilli's ROM:
If u are on some other ROM, and not have CWM console, or u do not know what that is:
1. Rename the theme file to 'update.zip',
2. Copy this update.zip to ur SD card root
3. Go into recovery mode (press n hold power button, and select recovery in the options there)
4. Select the option there that says something like 'apply: update.zip'

[RETIRED] [FROYO ONLY] Silent Video Camera

[Old Now Froyo Only!]
Hi all,
Update 30/03: Testing seems okay so flashable zip file for recovery added.
There seems to be a lot of demand for a silent video camera and I sometimes wonder if the motives are questionable but nevertheless, I aim to please.
LG have put security around the video camera sound files (these are in camera.apk/res/raw/ - camstart01.wav and camstop01.wav). They verify the file by name, id and most significantly a hash key. This means it is impossible to change the files without changing the code.
So here we have the modified Camera.apk with code changes.
No video camera start sound
No video camera end sound
Still camera sounds not affected
Sound file verification and sound trigger code removed, no code added
Download the .zip file below and flash it from ClockworkMod Recovery.
Download: O2xNoVideoSound-unsigned.zip
Please report back and I like the 'Thanks' button below...
It seems to work like it should, no beep when starting/stopping recording!
Thank you very much
works great thanks!
Thanks! It works without problem!

I tried flashing this through CWM and it ended up getting stuck in a boot loop. Had to restore my backup to get it to boot again. I'm running stock Android 2.2.2, Kernal 2.6.32.9, Build FRG83G and LGE version LGP990-V10d.
Any ideas why it's not working?

No, I don't know why sorry. It should work, it simply replaces one file.
In fact I can't imagine what could even cause the loop. To be honest I'd need to see a log to confirm what the problem was.
If you can get a log with adb whilst it's looping I'd take a look for you but of course this is effort you may not care to go to.
Thanks for the reply and offer, but yea that is a bit more effort than I think the silent video is worth at the moment. Hopefully nobody else is having issues.

Working/Workable GPS files!!!

These are the latest files piulled from the Vibrant 4G 2.3.4 build. Whether they are different than the ones posted by birgertime or brick'd (don't remember who really) some time back I don't know. I do know that the ones previously posted were from the original 2.3.3 leak for the 4G and these as stated are from the 2.3.4 leak.
I have tested these (very limited thus far) and they do work as expected. Same deal with turning GPS off you will need to reboot. These may or may not improve GPS you tell me.
You may flash this as anything else. It does wipe dalvic so your first boot will take slightly longer.
Im gonna give them a go and see what happens never was able to get a lock with the others. I will report back after some testing.

CWM yes. All of the Samsung GB roms are still using CWM2.5 and the script is set for that. If it fails to flash you'll either have to repackage it for CWM 4 or push the files manually or through adb.

The recovery is to new for this flashable. Unzip tje contents of the zip and use adb or root explorer to move the files manually. Then boot recovery and fix permissions.
After some testing. I think this works better then the previous fix for me. As soon as I open up GPS test or gpsaids I get 13 in view. Step outside hit 9 locks in about 2-3 minutes. 2.3.3 files I could never get a lock at all.
Thanks for posting these.

Update!! On/off functionality seems to work very well!!! I turned off gps and deleted gps data and cleared agps data! Turned gps back on and it still functions well! This may be the fix we've been waiting for folks. Getting 16ft accuracy indoors!!!
Please, somebody to repack this in CWM 4? Flashing with CM7 is tedious and not comfortable.

I would say since these files where pulled from a twiz build that they would need to be altered or reworked to work with a CM7 build..
And also there is no reason to ask for something more than once ( CWM 4 support) it doesn't get you anywhere. If this ends up being better for CM7 it will be added..
Flashed on SH 5.1 and honestly I had great GPS with that rom anyways but it seems to be working fine, used Navigation this morning with success.

How do I know if my ROM has the system/data partitions swapped?
Open up a shell, through ADB, Terminal Emulator, Connectbot, etc. Type the command
Code:
mount
and hit enter. Look for the line that mentions /system (it's a lot of jumble, I know! It's in there.) If you have the swap (and therefore are able to use this zip, you should see a line that look like this:
Code:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system ext4 rw,nodev,noatime, . . . . .
If you do not see mmcblk0p2 next to /system this mod is not for you! The non-compatible ROMs will say mtdblock2 next to system.
is this different from the cm9 ffc fix files or the same?

Different. If you try the CM9 FFC files you're gonna have a bad time.
OK reason I asked is because I have always used the cm9 without a problem on jb. Well, I never actually USED it in months but I am able to switch back and forth. I'll try this one out though

The old one would likely have worked on CM10 up until recently, since any changes to camera were pretty minor between ICS and JB. However, with the recent system/data partition switcheroo the old zip could potentially screw things up.

For people with the FFC mod on the Vibrant, here is a CWM flashable ZIP that will work with the latest CM10 nightlies to enable FFC support.
Just copy this file to the SD card and flash this after the nightly.
Enjoy!

Will this work with SlimBean 2.1 ?
UPDATE : It works!
I can confirm that the CM9 fix no longer works with CM10. I don't know that it caused issues after flashing but it didn't work. Hadn't put the time in to figure it out but thanks to chui101 I don't have to!

Unfortunately it did not work with the Helly Bean 817 version of CM10. Can someone send a couple of screenshots of the what the camera screen is supposed to look like? I have a compass-like icon in the upper left corner, but when I tap it - I just get a focus setting at that point. Never have fired up the FFC and don't know if it was DOA or not. Thanks.

It will ONLY work with CM10. Helly bean does not have the new partition layout - You can probably use the CM9 zip with that.
the old one works with hellybean

I took the time to type out a detailed OP, if you can't read it, then no I won't provide you a link.

Strike two.
Great, will you please provide a link to FFC CM9 zip? Searched and came up dry. Thanks.
Oh sorry about that, I will post it when I get home. Now the cm doesn't work with the newest Shelly 0828. Only the cm10. So you might want to DL that if your going to the newest helly. I figure all the proceeding helly's also.
I'll still post it though
Oh. I forgot I had it lol

Hey thanks again - my senior moment! As for the double post, I guess there was a lag here at the office and I sincerely apologize for ruffling any feathers. You see I go back to the time of 8086, 80286 etc and sometimes things like OP just do not register. Regardless, really appreciate the assist and the chance to proved that the FFC really DOES work! BTW, I still attend local SIG computer group where the oldest member is 104! He just bought an ASUS tablet and get this demanded a 2-yr warranty! Now that is positive thinking. . . . Take care.

Thanks bud, works great.

Unfortunately, my front camera shows as it's sideways, its an old bug, but I was wondering if anyone made any progress with it?
