I have a problem receiving SMS
(network and user independent)
- but can not put it down to any application installed or even restoring from backup - happens on a virgin XDA 2i after hard reset -
i even upgraded to latest (o2) rom 1.11.162 WWE (no change in symptom)
Rom 1.11.00 WWE
Radio 1.00.00
Problem is getting worse - (I receive about half of my SMS) - testing showed that on trying to receive an SMS the XDA switches on and then looses the network and starts looking - when the network is aquired again there is no notification of a new SMS and it is also not received.
Any help????
further troubleshooting
on looking into this further -
seems (not really confirmed yet) that this happens when signal strenght is less then 3 bars.
happens regardless of XDA having to "wake up" or being on already.
happens intermittently and randomly - without changing location of XDA (receiving) and other phones messages are received or not - no pattern
so here a few questions to help me troubleshoot this further:
a) if this is a signal strength problem - would a radio upgrade fix this?
b) - seems that there is more to it as I can not understand why the sending party is getting a delivery message. If the XDA lost the signal the message should not register as delivered.
c) could it be my SIM card? - before I go out and buy a ready to go sim only from O2 to test this I would like to know if it is worth my time and money.
further troubleshooting II
OK - I got another SIM card and tested it - same problem
I also tested my SIM card in another phone and I get everything. -
so it is not the SIM card -
Unfortunately also the signal strength therory got shot to bits - had all bars showing when the SMS receive failed. (I can always send and receive calls - this problem only afffects receiving SMS)
However - I notice that the signal strength bar goes up and down like a YoYo and is very irratic. I would have full bars on a Nokia and barely 2 on the XDA and then it would jump up and down again.
at this stage I really thinkk this is HW related (just a crap phone I suppose).
really don't know what to do next (other than handing it in for repair)
troubleshoot (III)
well - I had to hand it in to the nice men at O2.
They took it and yesterday, after 5 working days (not bad!) I got it back -
was told that they found the power on button to have been faulty and replaced it.
I tested immediately after getting it back --- and you guessed right - same problem as before. So back to the shop it was for repair attempt number two.
SMS don't reach my phone / me!
I got the same problem.
At a certain time I noticed, i'm not getting any SMS messages. It became obvious, when my provider sent me a push message (doesn't get stored in SMS box) notifying me I will receive an SMS with lost calls (a regular option).
I dont get any sms messages, they are delivered though, but don't show... SIM card works in another phone, my XDA doesn't work with other SIMs.
When i do a hard reset, it works, but after a sprite backup: no go.
this is the only change i did in last days: use the sprite backup. is it the culprit?
thx for ideas.
b
still no SMS received
the saga continues - got the XDA back yesterday - repair slip stated that
a) I had downlevel SW and
b) wrong settings
- on checking the XDA - ROM level was the same as I handed it in, as was radio and others (I had flashed the ROM with the newer O2 version ealier myself)
- re settings - I did not change them from when I got the XDA back the first time.
On testing - you guessed again - same problem persists.
What to do now? Is this a problem with the XDA?
I can recreate the problem at will. Put the XDA in a spot where it shows one or two bars on the phone. Switch it off. Send two SMS. When receiving first one, XDA wakes up, looses network and re-aquires, but does not receive message. Second SMS (XDA is already awake) will be received. Delivery messages for both SMS will be received by sender.
Has anybody experienced the same behaviour?
@ perchhog
Hi -
see also post from Maresch - "SMS blocked or lost"
I can recreate this problem on a virgin XDA after hard reset without any SW loaded before a first Active sync. I am not using sprite or any backup SW and it happens. (I have seen posts stating this might be the problem but not in this case)
old sprite backup program
I guess we do have different problems; read also post from americans labeling sms messages as text messages..
well i sorted it out: got a new sprite backup program (3.0), tried restore from former backup files, it showed corrupt message files (\windows\messaging). I erased the whole directory, now it works.
good luck with your problem, if it is hardware, go get a new one.

"unreceived" text messages
I also have an intermittent problem with "unreceived" text messages. At first it was one mate and I thought he was either stupid or lying. Then another mate said that he sent an SMS that I didn't get either and he could show me the message in his "sent items" folder.
I found that if I reboot my phone every day it rarely happens. But if I leave it on for a few days without reboot, I'm bound to miss texts.
Tried re-installing etc etc, doesn't seem to help. Bottom line is that I've told my mates NEVER to send me important news over SMS, as I might not get it.
I love my 2i... I wish it was a bit more dependable though.
tell O2 about it
Have you been on to O2 about this?
you seem to describe the same problem - (by the way - a reboot does not fix my issue) - When I talk to Novo - the O2 repair team - they have never heard about this - neither has the irish O2 XDA helpline. Go and tell them!
still not working
I just got my replacement XDA 2i
I inserted the SIM, switch the XDA off and send myself a text message. You guessed right - the XDA comes alive, screen lights up, suddenly the network is lost, it re-aquires and - no sign of a new message received, nothing in inbox BUT a delivery report received on the sending phone.
Back to O2 ......
The Saga continues
Was on to a very nice girl in O2 support - and they are investigating.
Somehow I got the feeling it was not the first call she had re this issue.....
update after a while now
worked with O2 for a week on my account settings - they can not find anything wrong and show messages delivered - I do not get them. - O2 Data support advised to get the phone replaced - which I did - twice again and still the same problem. This is definitely a problem with the phone and I really do not know what to do any more. I have now the 4th !! replacement phone and still the same problem.....
Have you tried upgrading the radio stack? This has helped some people with connection issues.
Hi Pug
no have not tried that yet - worth a try -
have no luck however accessing any of the links you posted for the ROM(s) with the 1.04 radio stack.
(no permision or site can not be found)
could you kindly include a link to the (non stripped) O2 version with camera fix and radio 1.4? - will give it a shot then
to Pug et all
Ok - found a working link to Pugs Rom (Thanks a million) - did a radio upgrade only (by deleting MS.nbf and nk.nbf) - had a glitch on upgrading but eventually got it all working. Now what you are all waiting for - the result:
tested the usual first and it definitely receives the first text message on wake up where it previously had failed. On putting it into a location where the signal strength is even weaker (less than two bars) it now does not try to receive - BUT will also not try to receive when back to full signal strenth - until a new text message is sent and then both are delivered.
Conclusion: HUGE improvement and no messages lost - (although potentially delivered with some delay - need to investigate this further). Hope everything else works as before have not tested yet.
3 CHEERS for Pug!
final comment and resolution of SMS receive problem
First - the radio upgrade DID resolve this issue. (why I discarded this a few months ago? Seatone had the same problem on a Radio 1.04 :-( )
I sent myself over a 100 text messages since and did not get it to fail or loose one single message. I do like my XDA again!
The ONLY gripe I have is that the red LED does not come on to inform you a message is waiting for you should you have missed the acustic signal.
But I can live with that (nobody a solution for this I suppose?)
So final conclusion - the problem of receiving SMS on an XDA when in standby and weak reception which resulted in loss of network and lost text message before can be solved by a radio upgrade -
THANKS and 3 Cheers for PUG
Please help....
I had the same problem as you! Unfortunatelly, upgrading to the latest radio version was of no help to me.
Now I don't receive ANY sms... It seems that if I send a couple of sms messages, sometimes I receive them the second or third day!!!
I tryed different ROM's, with different Radio versions....
Now I've installed TUMA v1.4 WM5 Rom, hoping that this will do it. But still nothing.... If I send a sms from another mobile to my number, I don't receive it on the Blue Angel...
I've tried my SIM card in another phone, and it works well.
Also I know that I am able to SEND sms, I've tested this.
Please help, as this is reaaaalllllyyy enoying (
Thank You.
why dont u guys post your specs here, maybe something related to it, buggy ROM, dunno.
if it helps i have a SIM card locked to a portuguese operator, with the following specs:
Specs:

ROM date: 01/27/05
Radio ver: 1.04.00
Prot Ver: 1337.42
Ext Rom ver: PUGS 1.11.162 (ty )
and never had any probs regarding sms.

sms receiving
I know all your problem on 02 sms.
1. after upgrade your 02 rom. you use the backup fle from old ROM.
2. the sprite backup soft is running fastly and it have many functions but it can make this mistake.
the solusion is that you must insert one by one soft after upgrade ROM.
Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I've bought an unlocked T-Mobile G1, it seems to be running on the official ROM, version 1.5 (can't check it now because I still don't have it, but my brother tested it before he sent it to me, should be arriving tomorrow). Anyway, my brother told me that the phone reports an error saying that the SMS couldn't be delivered because the number was wrong, or something like that. I've read that it's associated to the myFaves service on T-Mobile, and because it's on another network now an error appears because that number isn't on the network it's on now. I've read that I have to install another RC9 to prevent this, what do I have to do in order to do this? I believe my phone isn't rooted, although I've been thinking of doing it and installing a Cyanogen ROM. I'd like to keep most functions on the phone, so any advice is appreciated.

It's prolly best to troubleshoot the problem when you actually have the phone otherwise we would be speculating what the problem is.
Thanks for answering, I'll have the phone by tomorrow, so I'll be able to take a look at the problem myself. Basically, what my brother said is that the phone would report an error randomly, saying the message couldn't be sent (or something like that, seems the phone language was set in Spanish so the error was reported in Spanish too, I'm from Argentina so that's why).

Sometimes you can get a error message like that when the signal goes bad at the time of sending. Once you get the phone and if you can't figure it out just come back on here and we can solve it for you. Most likely its something real simple.
The thing is that he wasn't trying to send an SMS, last night he sent me a message, I received it fine, then responded and he got the message too. Then he turned it off, used his phone for a while and I asked him to try it again today, without doing anything the phone would report an error while sending a message, even if he wasn't sending one.
Edit: Anyway, I'll post again tomorrow, with complete build info and anything that seems useful.
Edit 2: Got the phone, it seems it won't try to send SMS now, but I can't send any SMS, I think it's my SIM because it works with other SIMs.
Sorry for double posting, but another update: Now I have the phone and could manage to send SMSs, followed some instructions I found on T-Mobile Forums to manually update the SMS Center number and worked perfectly, now I can send and receive SMS normally, but every now and then my carrier sends me a message that says that the message could not be delivered and to check the number. Here is my phone info:
Model number: T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.27.00393-g6607056
[email protected] #1
Build number: CRC1
The messages from the carrier arrive at random intervals, these are the instructions I followed to send SMS:
Actually, you can manually update the SMS center number on the G1 if you use AnyCut to create a shortcut to Phone Info. At the bottom of the display, there is a window marked "SMSC" where you can enter T-Mobile's number +12063130004. Worked for me
Of course I didn't use that SMS Center number, I used one provided by my carrier.
Edit: Flashed the latest Cyanogenmod ROM and now it won't send random SMS, working perfectly now.
Hello.
To make this easier to explain, i will give an example of my problem:
I go to bed at night at 22:00 and switch off phone, someone sends me an sms at 01:00 and when i turn my phone on at 08:00, the sms program shows the sms recieved as at 08:00.
On the HTC Desire, it would show 01:00 wich was the correct time of the sms message to be sent.
Anyone know how to fix this issue on the Galaxy i9000?
(I have the same carrier now as i had with the Desire, and the same sim card.)
Wich program do you use? Stock messageapp?
edit:
Ok, let me expand a little so you can test some things yourself:
A message-app should read the attached timestamp it received from the message-server. (my provider had it set to the wrong time once for a few days, so i could text from the future, funny)
It is possible your program shows you the time when received, it should not do that.
So... install a different program. Like chompsms (free), or use stock if you are using a third party app and see what happens. I cant reproduce atm. Have only got 1 phone nearby.
I assumed this was normal... as the same thing occured with every phone I've ever had... but this is my first smartphone...
If a third party app does it as you say, I would like this feature too! We need someone to test...
OK, tested, twice.
A quick google gave some answers too. I assume TS also googled the issue? Did you find anything of interest?
Behavior #1
Android (in general including 2.2, not just galaxy S) seems to remember the +0 timezone timestamp, wich it then corrects using your timezone. You can try this by setting your timezone differently, it'll change the timestamps on the messages. This is acceptable behavior since it will show you the correct local times when moving about timezones since it syncs time to the phones network. (tes if possible, i dont have a plane handy)
Behavior #2
It'll start off using the phone's time. Wich ofcourse will be at the moment of receiving on the phone, not on the providers server.
Looking at the details of the message it also says this time of arrival.
This is odd behavior, since there is a timestamp in a sent message.
I'll have a closer look.
OK, could be a carrier problem.
I need some data, plz test and reply with some details.
Testing is easy: turn on flight mode, let someone send you a text, wait a few minutes, turn off flight mode, look at the timestamp.
Country: Holland
Carrier: Debitel
Phone: galaxy S
Version: Eclair 2.1
Problem occurs: Yes
grrr....
I need to learn how to search...

hello all
yesterday i've just flashed the ICS DDLPA firmware (népal version NPL), over my french stock GB version. every thing rock, absolutly no problème but today i saw in my mobil bill one SMS send to +918527121333 (it's international india number).
i've got no trace of it, it was auto send and cost me 19cts €...
so it very strange...
it is a sort of auto config sms?
can indi people could light me over this?
I have hear earlier same, May be this SMS sents to samsung india while you configuring Note first time. Just check timing in bill does it same time when you have finished configuration.
the sms timming is matching perfectly with the moment i flash the DDLPA.
humm i'm already thinking in that way ^^
by the way if i dont get mutch more strange sms, that will confirm this theory ;-)
txh for reply mister Dr Ketan

maybe just call the number, and ask politely wtf is going on
PS. I just did and nothing happened, two clicks and auto disconnect, hope it does not ruin my home budget
That i have already tried, but i think it is only for sms purpose, no response on calling.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Otherwise the DDLPA look like to be the greatest ics stock rom for the note.
