I know that there was an unofficial leak to froyo for the captivate; with the resent announcement that froyo will soon come to the captivate I was wondering if you guys know if it will in fact come with wifi/usb tethering with the OTA update (no rooting or anything). It was present in the leaked version but its just that a leaked version has anyone gotten there hands on a newer version/build?
a) not development related, Q&A or general next time
b) no one can say for certain what will be in the final build until we have the final build
c) if there was a newer version available, it would be shared (likely on this forum as well); so if you don't see it, it likely isn't available
thanks and sorry for posting in the wrong forum I thought it had some relation to the development of android for the captivate

Hello folks. I have a question about build numbers. I keep reading about FRF91, FRG83, FRG33, etc. builds. How can I find out what build I have. I recently bought a Nexus One in Vietnam, seems to be korean version (it has korean keyboard installed, manual is in korean). When I go to Settings -> About phone, I don't see any FRG, FRF, EPE, or whatever, just a long number. For the sake of completeness, here is what I get:
Android version:
2.2
Baseband version
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Kernel version
2.6.32.9-27227-g3c98b0d
haleyATm4-dev#1
Build number
2.15.1010.2 CL203557 release-keys
I already rooted and unlocked the phone, installed recovery image Amon_Ra's 1.8.0.1 (suitable for SLCD screen) but now I'm stuck. Don't know what updates would work (2.2.1? which images I need for my build version, etc.)
Please help - I know it may sound like a dumb question, and I tried to google for an answer and search the forum, but everyone's About phone screen seems to show something like FRF91 or somesuch, not the number I get above. Thanks!
The Korean build for FRF91 has a different build number... Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91
So, you have the FRF91 build customized for the Korean N1

Thanks a lot, I was trying to find out for days
So I checked on shipped-roms, and the name for my stock rom is PASSIMG_Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip - am I correct? Are there any disadvantages for having this (apart from having an uninstallable korean keyboard)? Do I receive updates more slowly? Do you have any advice for me - my last question(s) I promise Thanks a lot for your help...
Well, yes, PASSIMG_Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip is the stock ROM which is on ur phone. Regarding update frequency, it's possible updates may be delayed by KT (Korea Telecom), but I can't say for certain.
Thanks - at least now I know exactly what I have
One more thing that's not clear, I've read conflicting report about this: OTA upgrades through WIFI. Google says sure, it works, but I read a letter received by a user from HTC that said the opposite. Anyway, in case I can update through wifi, who releases the updates? I don't live in Korea, I'm on a Vietnamese network. If Korea Telecom releases an update, how would that reach my phone? It's all so confusing. Forgive me for my questions, I'm new to Android.
Hey Guys,
I found this article on the web mentioning that Samsung just released their new Android 2.2.1 for their SGS. Do you think it is also for the Bell version of SGS (I9000M). I am hesitant to upgrade with the Froyo 2.2 that was released before because I see people are having all SD issues and things of that sort. Will this work and if so, will this solve the issues people are having with 2.2?
Here is the source below:
Android 2.2.1
This is the JPU firmware that is floating round the forum and now being used in many of the custom Roms

Wow, I guess this thread is super unimportant because everybody knew this already, lol. But I am not sure if its a new idea that Samsung is using. We'll see if somebody validates this for us.
Hi,
I bought Samsung Captivate in US and now use it in India. I would like to upgrade to android 2.2 official version but am not sure how to do it without using att network.
Would appreciate your help if you can point me to any existing thread or any instructions on how to upgrade.
Thanks,
Vijay
Didn't think there was an "Official" OTA from AT&T. I know Rogers received an update but not AT&T.
If there is you would be able to get it in the Dev forum as I'm sure someone would have created an Odin 1-Click for it.
If you're that anxious to add Froyo, your best bet is to use a port of the Rogers release. I think the latest Cognition has it. Otherwise wait a little longer to see if ATT does release an update and someone will surely create a ROM that you can flash.

Thanks for your response and help. Surprised to know that att has still not launched the froyo version since its' available by Samsung directly.
I am new to this forum and the whole installing custom roms process so appreciate the links.

Vijay
I have read and read thread after thread... after thread, and I'm confused...
Is there an actual legit Gingerbread update for the US TMo Tab that I can do through Keis or Odin, or is it an overseas version? And at that, will it pull files automatically, or do I have to DL, then install? And is that safe for the US TMo Tab?
I keep hearing about Overcome, and searched and read. Is it an actually 2.3 Gingerbread ROM, or a 2.3 theme? If it is a ROM, is it a full ROM with all working options, or more something I should wait on the official release for?
Thanks for any help, and links are appreciated.
I did searches and read a lot, but the more I read, the more unclear it became, so I thought this would clear it up for me...
There is an actual, legit Gingerbread updated that will work on a US TMobile Tab that can be installed via Odin, AND it is an overseas version (Italy release, specifically). You will have to download the files and install them. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073854 . Also see here for a modem switcher, as you won't be able to get 3G using the Italy build modem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871021
Flashing is never completely without risk, but many people have done this successfully.
Overcome is a complete firmware replacement with many modifications. The latest release is based on 2.3, but I don't really track it, so I can't really say too much more about how well it works. See here for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074759
(You can also get the T-Mobile stock modem from that thread without going to the trouble of using Roto's switcher.)
The Overcome Rom is a fully functional build of Android 2.3 (Alterbridge also has a 2.2.1 Rom out there)
It has only minor minor bugs at the moment (which you likely wont even notice), but for the most part is a fully working build.
If you follow the steps written up at the bottom of Alter's Gingerbread ROM, you shouldn't have any troubles.
To answer the original question, there is no official gingerbread for any US carrier's tab, and probably won't be.
I posted this in the Q&A section yesterday and have gotten no responses so far, so I thought I would try here.
I believe Android 4.0.4 has been released for one of the Samsung phones.
Has anyone heard anything about 4.0.4 for the Vivid? Any general information about what's in 4.0.4? We know that 4.0.3 had some issues that needed to be fixed.
Thanks
