Im wondering if my bell i9000m is concidered "branded"?
I read something in one of the other fourms that bell doen NOT brand their high end phones but I have not confirmed this with bell.
What makes a phone "branded"? I have a couple of bell apps on my device like bell tv, etc but no bell splashscreen or anything like that.
Can anyone tell me this? Thanks in advance...

From what I've heard (I forgot where), the Bell i9000m is actually the international version (same one as if you were to buy directly from Samsung), but loaded with the Bell apps which you can't remove with out kinda hacking your phone.
By "branded", I believe this means that it doesn't show "Bell" at all on the phone or when you turn it on (as you've noticed yourself). So, unless you're looking through the apps, no one would know where the phone was from.
I hope that's correct. If not, anyone with the correct answer, please feel free to correct me.
that's correct, branded phones will have wall papers, start up screens, browser home page all pointing and showing the branded logos like AT&T for example
@allgamer...
You have a bell sgs right? Our web browser does go to the bell page when being used on the bell network. Does that mean anything?
I dont have any splashscreen, wallpapers, etc so again... Does this mean that our version is or isint branded?

Hello? Can anyone confirm one way or the other on this?
It is not a branded phone,
Sasktel also sells the i9000M and it is not preloaded with anything.
(besides samsungs garbage)

it only goes to bell homepage coz of browser and apn settings - all of which can be easily changed. so, no, bell i9000m is not a branded galaxy.
that would be Bell's own DCHP server/DNS or
APN settings that forces you there
when i use it with FIDO with the stock browser it just goes to an empty page "homepage" as it doesn't exist without the FQDN
all other browsers like SkyFire and Opera they open up on each own respective out of the box home page from each company

Hi all...
I am again confused and wondering if the Bell version of the SGS is BRANDED or UNBRANDED?...
The reason for my newly found confusion is due to my reading the "Official Froyo Rollout" thread and seeing all the different codes, etc.
For example... In the UK the unbranded product code is something like XKE (not sure if that is exact) and one of the many BRANDED codes would be like 02O (for the O2 carrier).
Now... When I look at our product code for the Bell SGS it lists it as BMC Which I am assuming should stand for Bell Mobility Canada so I am asking again...
Is the Bell SGS BRANDED or UNBRANDED?

It is UNBRANDED... However, if you notice the model number, it is not an I9000 international phone. It is an I9000M phone and is different. So we have to wait for a specific froyo update for our particular model number.

Hi, I'm from Argentina and I bought a used G1, and I need to know if it is from the USA. Now, it's from T-mobile, does that guarantee me it's from the US?
Also, it has DRC83. As I have read (though there's not much info about that build), it is rooteable, so I'm wondering, what's the easiest way of doing it? I read a couple of guides, but there are so many methods I get lost.
Thanks in advance.
DRC83 is only for T-mobile G1 from the U.S. . Use the oneclick root from unlockr.com, do a google search and you will find it. Sorry I can't post links from my phone.
if its from the united states it says t-mobile on it

Wrong. My G1 is from Germany, and it also says T_mobile on it.

w/e my bad
h**p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile
It's a German company and we are not proud of it. ;-)
As I understand it, the hardware across all "tmobile" branded devices is identical, except for possibly a minor change in the button layout for languages other than english.
In other words, it doesn't matter.
Root it, install engineering bootloader, and you're all set.
You can tell by CALL and END buttons. If they are red/green, then the phone is from the US. If they are all of the same color (white) then it's European model.
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444092
I bought the G1 with the intention of using the free yahoo mail that comes with tmobile prepaid's "t-zones." Now, I learned that T-Mobile blocks all g1 traffic to tzones. It works with my old iphone 2g and even my brother's mytouch, just not the G1.
If I flash a rogers dream or hero rom, will t-mobile not recognize it as a G1 and still let me on T-zones?
They do it by IMEI apparently, and since there's no way to change it (which would probably be illegal anyway)...

No. Rogers is Canadian, T-Mobile is US, the imei would just get rejected.
BTW please read the rules and look into sections before posting. This should be in Q&A. Thanks. Tagged for a move
It depends if both phones uses the same code in the IMEI to identify the device as a 'dream'. So it might, I really don't know. Since Rogers uses different frequencies than tmo you would loose 3G anyway, which appears to defeat the point.
I'll be doing more searching to be certain but since my Galaxy S is in for the 3rd repair and I'm sick of it there is a slight chance I can trade for a Tab. I have the Bell Galaxy unlocked running on Rogers so if I trade for a Tab it will be the Bell version.
So, is it reasonable to think that I can unlock it, flash it, and run a Rogers SIM and get 3G on it like I do the Galaxy? I can get 6+Mbs on the Galaxy. And can I get it to do phone duties? Of course this is only useful if I use a headset.
Any Bell Tab users running on Rogers around here?
Bell Tab user running on Telus. Same difference.
Just follow the unlock and flashing threads on the main forum for the AT&T version, it all applies to the Bell and Rogers tabs.
I have a Bell tab running on Sasktel but it is unlocked and could run on any north american provider. I also have the phone working. I found all the directions to do this on these forums.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure if there are many versions like there are with the S which can cause trouble (A U.S. Vibrant rom an a Bell Vibrant == bad news).
There's only a slight chance I can get one but the shop has mentioned they'll discuss it since they know how bad the S corruption problem is.
So the bottom line is that there is little doubt that a Bell spec'd Tab (not yet sure if there are radio differences between the different offerings) can run full 3G speed on a Rogers network and can use standard voice? I have no doubt that VoIP is ok but if I can make it act like a bigger version of the Galaxy S then I'm good. I won't ask how to do it since I can research no problem. I just want to be prepared to tell the shop that yes I'll swap for a Tab.

No doubt whatsoever. None. Zilch. Nada.
It's a sure thing, a cinch, dead certain.
Follow the instructions for unlocking and the AT&T how-to-flash-voice in this forum.
You'll get full 3G on both bands, you'll be able to fall back on Roger's EDGE network if need be (great for saving battery life too), and you'll have world-wide GSM voice, via speakerphone, Bluetooth, or the included wired headset.
I want to know how you convinced them to swap the Galaxy S for a Tab. Mine is in repair right now and I'd love to do that
I didn't, it is just a possibility. Actually they brought it up after my successful campaign to convince them that I used the SGS as a tablet and is why I don't show up as a Bell customer. We're not supposed to be able to buy them without at least a PAYG plan but that was my other success when initially buying what is now my regret. You'd think that buying the full price no contract would allow that but the fine print says no. It took me 5 stores before I was able to outsell the salesman.
I'm pleased however with how nice people have been so far around here. I did see a brief spat over someone's claim to use their Tab as a primary phone. That's what I intend to do since voice is low usage for me but I'd still need voice at times. The Tab can stay tucked away and use a headset so I'm not too worried about the size. I'm old with fat fingers so the size is very useful for me.
I'm in the same boat. I've got the Captivate from Rogers, and I picked up the Tab from Bell. (Way cheaper from Bell buying it outright) I'm going to hack the phone into working and unlock it tonight.
Voice is the least used feature of my phone, but I still need to have it.
I've just got to figure out a way to carry it around easily come summer when the Jacket pockets go back into the closet.
Let us know how it goes. If I get the same defective hardware back from repair I'll be asking to trade for a Tab. So with you having a Bell Tab and making it work on Rogers with voice is something I want to hear about. Did you get one month PAYG SIM? It seems you have to activate it to get it at the best price.

I signed up for the Tablet Flex Plan, but then cancelled it. I'm going to be billed for an extra month, so I'll use it sparingly and just eat the cost...
I bought minbe from Future Shop out right without having to go month to month or anything. The Rogers one was $20 cheaper aswell when Buying out right. $629 on Rodgers vs. $649 on Bell. If you want to avoid having to pay for a month of service and another sim just get it from Best Buy or Future Shop. They also have open box ones for $609.
Hey guys got a tab today on rogers , does anyone now if canadian tabs have Media Hub? Cant find it anywhere?

Will it also work on t-mobile 3g?
I am new to android devices, and I have a few questions:
#1. I got a tab with bell as the carrier.
#2. The bluetooth does not pick up headset or handsfree profile devices at all
I want to use a headset with this device
If I do the flashing and install new roms, will I be able to get the bluetooth to work?
Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it satisfactorally?
Rogers Stock Rom
Rogers tab stuck at samsung logo. I need to reflash to Rogers FW. Anyone has it ?
Thanks
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but could someone please let me know if there have been any changes to the flashing procedure?
I am a new owner of a Bell Canada Galaxy tab, and would love to have it unlocked, in order to use it freely...
Someone here noted that their Tab was already unlocked when bought - how would I go about to verify if mine is locked or not?
Thank you and sorry if my questions are too "noob"-ish...

Easiest way is to stick another carriers sim in the slot and see if you get signal. I unlocked my Bell Tab and use it on Telus as my main device (phone and all).
I used this for unlock. Then just follow the guide for the Overcome GB flash and you'll be set.

*#7465625#
check the first value network lock and that will tell you if it's unlocked or not.

None. I too have the German version and I use AT&T. Everything works nicely!
I've had the German version since mid December, on at&t, no issues at all.

Look at About Phone and see what model number it is.
But, it will work on ATT, you just will need APNs, which you can find. Or if you are on ICS, you might not need to put them in, because I didn't. ICS auto-populates APNs.

Yea I know what, What APN do you all use? the Wap.cingular or the HSPA+ one? Cause When I had my International One x, data was HORRIBLE using the wap.cingular one, and once I put in the HSPA+ one it was normal like my att note.
Also does it matter where it comes from? like flaws or anything ? Sorry I`m OCD haha

My APN is on wap.cingular right now. That is the one that is auto-populating and I haven't changed it. It's not terrible. ATT sucks, so it is hard to tell. Lol.
What HSPA+ APN are you talking about? PTA one is for LTE and since we don't have LTE that wouldn't do any good.

AFAIK its UBKK1 its from Brazil. I got the same when I bought mine.
Regards from Venezuela.
Basebands/modems can be changed so don't get too caught up with that. You have to try a modem that fits best for you and your carrier. I am on LP6 now, but I have tried a lot.

Is there a certain reason why you US guys buy the german Notes?
In my case I don't even live in the US, bought my Note on Amazon, seller didn't specify country of origen for the device nor did I ask, when I received my device started looking around and found out that acording with the device's firmware it came from Brazil.

Bought mine on eBay instead of buying from ATT with a contract.
Also, this note has a better processor than the ATT version.
Amazon seems to be selling them the ones from brazil. And fsgtrading is selling ones for germany. I got my note brand new for 440 brand new with over night.

I think mine is the germany one, but I'm not 100% sure and there is no way to tell right now since I'm on a cm9 build and have done too much to it. The N7000 came from certain countries and then the other international model came from like china, I think. And then of course, att model is US.

Every firmware is the same. Example: The new Android Jelly Bean 4.3 from Switzerland is the same as this from Singapore, France, Canada, Germany or what ever. Only give a look that the firmware is a generic firmware because in a branded firmware are some more apps which you probably don't need.
weird, so any reason why i might get better service on others?
i can barely get any servce on my c6603... its been slowly getting worse and worse
Any one know why i cannot receive any cellular service?
i am with koodo, unlocked network, sim, bootloader, rooted.
Any ideas?
