Got my HD7! - HD7 General

Hi Everyone,
My HD7 arrived today and I have started to set it up etc. (I am in the UK)
Any questions you want to know fire them at me.
I am coming from a Galaxy S so it does seem a tad limited for now until the apps catch up.
So far I have noticed the following oddities.
OS based Issues MS need to fix
Video player does not play audio via A2DP. (music does)
Bluetooth settings lack any options for type (Headset/Stereo) settings (no real issue)
Mobile IE does not render Toodledo/slim well so not sure about other sites.
Zune software - Podcast section does not appear in market in UK have to add rss feeds manually to the app.
No custom ringtones/other sound settings
No option to connect to WIFI with hidden SSID
Only syncs main calendar from any source not any additionals.
Media HUB only remembers the location of the last video in the play list that is "paused" once you move to other items of music or other videos it forgets the place.
Other issues not OS related. (all will be fixed over time with good apps)
Lack of apps is a real issue on day one. This should change.
No TODO app with push notifications available! big issue for me.
YouTube App just loads the m.youtube.com so its really just a player engine once you pick a video from the site.
Videos get converted on the fly during sync which makes this a slow process. Should kick off the conversion as soon as you say sync to phone.
Other than these points the phone itself is really nice and fast, no lag at all.
Takes some getting used to but I am trying hard to make it all work.
Russ

No connection to hidden SSID? That sucks!
Can you categorise imported/synched videos into any album you want and rename the albums? So I could have say one video album labelled FAMILY, one labelled, FUNNY, one labelled MOVIES etc

Thanks for the input. What's your opinion of the screen coming from samoled? How is the ringer volume compared to the Samsung?

I got mine today, just sold my Galaxy S, still have my iPhone 4.
Screen is almost as good as iPhone, nothing like Super AMOLED sadly.
Biggest issue for me is speakers are terrible.
Kev

Oh okay thanks for the info. I had an ip4 so if its close to that I am cool. I hate to hear the speakers suck. That's big issue for me. Especially since I can't add my loud ringers I usually add if speakers suck on the phones I get

I thought the HTCs had Dolby Surround or whats it called How can they be worse than the competitors?

I may be mistaken but Dolby Sound and SRS only work when headphones are plugged in. Maybe someone can confim.

i Can confirm that both SRS and Dolby mobile work through headphones and through the speakers, when putting on Dolby does make it sound slightly louder and clearer for me!!

That's great to hear

As far as I can make out on my Zune software I can not group videos into playlists so there does not seem to be an easy way to get it to auto sync unless you pick the ALL option.
Still messing with it though.

Agreed, the screen is nowhere as good as the Galaxy but if you have never had a Super Amoled then I dont think you will be disappointed.
Speaker volume is very low compared to my Galaxy also. I thought the grills at top and bottom were speakers but they are just for show.
The speaker is next to the camera on the back.

This is not true, without the Youtube app you can't play Youtube Videos from the website. The App contains necessary Code/Drivers which allow you to play Youtube videos whethere going through the App/Link or from IE.
Also the Front Mounted Speakers are still being questioned. HTC seemed to have advertised the phone to Reviewers/Critics as having "Front Mounted Stereo Speakers" however atm they are either not used (software update required from M$) or HTC were lying. I'd like to hope it's teh first one but you never know
The Screen on mine is brilliant when the brightness is set to High. When on Auto it seems to keep screen brightness on Medium which is a bit rubbish and doesn't show it off very well. Get it on High and you'll notice the difference. It's (very) hardly noticable from the HTC Desire's when they're side by side, but the fact it's massive far outways that.

Thats was my point about it being just a player engine (codecs etc). I was comparing what I know from Android for a youtube app and was suprised it was not a full in app experience.
But being able to play the videos at all is a big plus.
Agree on the screen, set on HIGH it looks very nice and anyone will be happy with it but I am not sure what impact the battery is going to take. Side by side with a galaxy S though you do see the difference but if you never had a super Amoled then you wont care at all.
What is a score with Low - Med - High anyway, wheres the slider for brightness. Seems like a miss that should have been easy.
Russ

Ah apologies I misread you on the YouTube thing. I've left my screen brightness on high for a few days now and I must say I haven't even noticed a difference in battery life, although tbh my battery life is terrible anyway. Why HTC chose a 1200 instead of a 1500 is beyond me.

Waiting on my new HTC HD7 arriving this afteroon, been using an HTC HD2 with hacked Android and love it apart from the bugs etc...
Have 14 days to decide weather its worth it or if i need to switch carries to the Desire HD...
Hurry up DHL!!!

Did you already try to install on your HD7 some .CABs developed for WM6 ?
There are a couple of apps (SPB Wallet, iGO8) I couldn't live without, and losing them under WM7 would be a big problem.
Thanks

1) Absolutely, positively no possible way ANY Windows Mobile apps will run on Windows Phone 7 as it exists today.
2) What is this "WM7" of which you speak?

...you mean that NO existing app running on WM6.x will run under WM7 ?
No backward compatibility ?
Apps have to be completely rewritten ?
Please tell me I'm wrong
PS WM7 = Windows Mobile 7

exactly, WP7 and WM6 are 2 different pairs of shoes. You also cannot run a Windows program on a Commodore C64 Btw. there is on Windows Mobile 7, it´s called Windows Phone 7,

iTunes for WM5/6?

Has anyone heard of getting iTunes to work on an PPC?
I'm thinking like the Motorolla phones (Rokr, Slvr, V3i, etc).
Funny thing, the only reason I really care is I have a bunch of purchased music that i'd like to access on my phone...

Matt,
The only program I heard of that can do it is PPC tune sync......or something like that. I don't know how good, if at all, it actually works. But basically it just syncs with your iTunes to sync all your MP3's.
thanks for that info. I looked up that program, and it looks like the only way is to burn them to a CD and rip them to the phone...
Could be worse, I suppose...
I will ask around and see if anyone has something more appealing.
I don't use iTunes (just copy to my SD card). But will keep an eye (and ear) out for something else.
Wave recorder
Use a wave recorder to record your music into new format.
Good one is Jetaudio.
Yes you might lose quality but you will get files you can use anyway you want.
BTW loss of quality is not even that big because you are recording a digital waveform that is actually damn acurate.
RECORDING AUDIO FOR PERSONAL USE has never been iligal as far as i know.

cool, thanks! I wondered about doing that, but hadn't ventured down that road... I'll check out that program.
Audacity
Another brilliant recorder is Audacity and its all free.
Once you have tweeked it you can get a better sound than just a wav recorder, and if you have the time this is a good bit of software to record your own tomtom voices.
Hope you get somthing sorted.

Quick question about music player

I'm the former owner of a Kaiser and I really love that phone I'm in the process of replacing the screen but in the meantime I bought a G1 and I kinda fell in love with it but there's still 3 things I miss 2 I don't think will every be on google os is tomtom, windows live. and htc album manager so my question is can htc album manager be cooked or flashed or pushed to the android ? I really liked the music player cause it had audio manager which was the equalizer so can this be done or is there an equalizer for the g1 I have the audiohack and the headphone booster there's like no overall sound cause I use my phone as my mp3 when I'm driving so the external speaker is louder but distored and the headphone boost is not that great. Any input is greatly appreciated

I don't believe there is any third party player that has an equalizer or whether the HTC Music app from the Hero has one. Nothing can ever ported from Windows Mobile.
yea I figured that when I first got my g1 and tried 2 download winlive and it said it can't be run on google system oh well maybe microsoft will make a winlive app 4 google one day. and maybe on of these great devs on here will make a equalizer 4 the g1

CoPilot is on the Market for like $35 or something. Its a full nav software with online updates as well as offline navigation. From what I hear, definitely worth the money.

best mp3 player

hello there, i just bought an X1 and was trying to find the best mp3 player. the ones i found on the phone were very slow. i have an 8 gb card with 1400 songs on it.
i need a player that doesn't have a delay between changing the songs and also a search function.
i found winamp for WM; i runs smoothly but i couldn't find the jump button.
any ideas ?
there are plenty...pocket player, imulator, s2p, lcg jukebox...
imo, pocket player is better choice, but it is not free
I also recommend Pocket Player by Conduits. Not free but the best player I have seen so far.
thanks man, i found pocket player, it's nice, but it's so slow . i'm having so many problems with this thingy, i can't even find the gps menu in settings
I dont consider Pocket Player slow. Its not lightning fast, ok. But slow?
Concerning gps setting: You will find them under settings\system\external gps
Another vote for Conduits Pocket Player. Not slow at all, slides and performs as expected. I had been a satisfied user for many years and had it running on all of my WM devices with no issues, and we are talking a far less spec-ed ones than Xperia. The best part for me is that it sends music over the bluetooth to a mono headset and with tweaks can be set up as a default media player for Voice Command, which means it gets controlled through bluetooth as well. Can't beat that.

With Pocket Player you can set up the interval between songs, even fading of one song into another.

I wonder if slowness is caused by your card read rates...
yeah, my card is probably slow, but this doesn't change the fact that pocket player has a not so nice search function. after you find the desired track, it replaces the playlist and you have to go back each and every time.
have you tried that winamp version for WM ? if i could find the "jump" button. it really looks like winamp and it's veeeery fast.
ps: i'm using the same micro sd on an n95 and it works like a charm, i'll try and update the x1 to 6.5; if i'm not satisfied with the results, i'll swap it for an n97.
It's a question of configuration. In advanced settings you can choose whether to generally replace the current playlist or to enqueue an opened file. What's more it is important to choose the correct method. If you want to replace the current playlist you choose open\open file but if you'd like to enqueue you have to use open\add file. It's the same in the library. When you press on an album, artist or track in the list a menu pops up and you can choose between play (replaces current playlist) or enqueue. In the library there are settings too. There you can once again choose between different ways the program interprets gestures/ actions. So all in all what you describe is a mere question of configuration and using the correct method
i've given up. i tried saving a playlist and it freezed my phone (twice). i don't care anymore.
now...this is WINDOWS mobile, right? on my p990 i had an emulator for old nintendo games (mortal kombat, street fighter etc); is there such thing?
what other games do you know? i saw a video, someone was playing tony hawk, i'm looking for something similar with good graphics and interesting gameplay, perhaps a football game, pool, bowling...
Perhaps... the problem is with your device.... I can't say I ever had any problems of any kind running Pocket Player, saving playlists, selecting songs, scrolling through lists etc, and I used it on quite a few WM devices so far. Can't even say the performance was ever affected by the ROM or specifications. It runs equally well on 200Mhz devices and 620Mhz devices, with 64Mb RAM and 256Mb. It even runs perfectly well on LG KS20 and that little bugger has many problems. I have it on my Xperia, needless to say.
FYI: I realise that you asked for a new media player, but I thought it was worth mentioning that both the X1s built-in meda players have a highly elegant quick search as you type feature.... just start typing..

if you have more than 1 song that starts with "mar" for example, it will only show you the first one
what's so elegant if it doesn't satisfy my needs? btw, where's the equalizer on these so sweet and neat "media" players? even with the players that have equalizer, the sound sucks in my car/headsets comparing to nokia.
i'm sorry to say this, i love ericsson, but i regret buying xperia.
Look it is clearly visible that you don't now how to use Pocket Player. You say: "This does not work, that is not possible". But everything you mentioned so far is possible with Pocket Player as long as you know how to use it.
Concerning your problem with playlists I cant confirm that the Xperia crashes when saving a playlist. Have you tried saving in another format?
If you don't like Pocket Player there are other solutions. Pocket Music by Pocketmind for example or Mortplayer. Both come with an equaliser but for me Pocket Player is by far the best program available.
AS for games you can get warcraft 2 and starcraft and heaps of other games.
hey, i have the best solution: throw away this crap and buy the goddamn ugly n97,
this morning i was trying to send an sms to a bunch of my friends and, surprise, i can't mark recipients, i have to select them 1 by 1. YEAH XPERIA ALL THE WAAAY
Look I found in 5 minutes by using the search function what you say is not possible.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354164
Search also for the keyword "power sms" as this is another solution. Maybe there is even more software available here at XDA. Generally everything is possible with Windows Mobile because there is software for almost any function you can imagine. So please either start using your brain or stop annoying us with your false statements. I don't care if you believe Xperia X1 is crap and N97 is better but stop claiming things that are just plain wrong only because you are to lazy to look for a solution yourself.
for me nitrogen is the best mp3 player for winmo.
so i have to install a third party software to send a lousy sms? if i wanna send a message to 1 guy, i use it's default app and if i wanna send one to many, the other one. i can't believe this. yes, i'm slothful, that's why i bought a smartphone
oh, btw, sometimes, it doesn't show the number that's callin' me so i have to restart it...
i have nothing against xperia or WM, i'm just being objective here, but imagine if i would have had to pay for all these extra applications? imagine if i didn't know my way around technology. i would want my SMAAARTPHONE to do everything by default; and by everything, i mean the basics.
you guys know better than me that many 3rd party apps are ****ed up and buggy and laggy, and trust me, i had more than 10 symbian phones, i know what i'm talking about. so don't you dare jump on me with "use your brain, false statements". maybe i do have a cheap micro sd, but why does the old n95 work so smooth with it a?
altae, i dare you to show me a video of you using pocket player. i want you to load a playlist with at least a couple of hundred songs, i want you to have there songs that have the same title such as come(ing) undone by placebo, korn and robbie williams. search for "undone", let me see how it shows you all 3 songs and after you select one, the playlist goes on just like "good ol' winamp". if you can do that and i can't, i swear i'll hit myself as hard as i can with the x1 in the head, in my nuts or wherever you want me to.

[Q] Media experience panel problems

I liked the idea of media panel since I knew about it. But now when i have it on my device and I took a closer look at it I noticed some disappointing things about it. It seams that's it's good in general but every part has some defect:
1)Pictures part(most disappointing)-it seams to zoom not the actual images but the thumbnails of them. What's that for!?Can't it load images from sd card?
2)Music part-has no equalizer(I can live with that) and can't show all songs of one artist.
3)Video part-it's almost OK but it is just a bit more laggy then WMP.
The point is-are those real problems or am I a noob and just don't know the solution?
Do you mean the the MPX Panel MR1 (without radio) or MR2 (with Radio)?
If it's MR2, absolutely yes, it occures to me.
If it's MR1 (Original ROM), I don't think so.
I had the second version of the panel, the one with the radio. I have just uninstalled it and installed MR1 version. Well...there are no differences between them, at least i haven't noticed any.The video plays a little smoother, that's all.
So there isn't any way to fix picture viewer in the panel?
I use the Media Xperiance Panel only to play high quality movies. For this purpose it is definitely much better than WMP. For everything else I use a dedicated program. It's Pocket Player for sound and XNView for pictures. The reason is the inflexibility of the Media Xperiance Panel. Like you mentioned it offers no equalizer and the picture part is crap. But to watch high quality mp4s it's great.
I just hoped that this Media panel was so useful as I thought it would be when I first heard about it. Oh well!.. I'm using other programs for multimedia too - Coreplayer for music and Resco Picture Manager for pictures, but if there weren't those defects it has, it would be a great useful program! Thanks a lot for your answers.
Actually I found a way to deal with the music player part! I've installed the HTC Audio Booster - it didn't work for me last time because i didn't rename the .mui file to my region code but now it works perfect! So now I have Media panel with equalizer!
Asked a question about picture viewer to Sony Ericsson support. They said to update my phone's software. Like it would change something even if I could(already have R3AA007)!
It's a sad thing. Almost every time you contact a support hotline (SE is no exception) you realise that you already know far more than the person on the other end of the line will ever
Yep, totally. But I suppose that's because people who you call/write to are not engineers - their job is to tell you that "you should update your phone's software and everything will be awesome!". But anyway i started using the not-zooming panel picture viewer to quickly look at my recently added pictures, it's quite useful to have all pictures in one place and not browsing through 100 directories.
I agree, the panel is definitely a good thing. It is not perfect and SE wasted some of the panels potential but it's useful nonetheless. Like I wrote before I still consider it the best solution to watch high quality movies. Far better than WMP.

New music player?

Coming from my S6, it probably has the best music player I've used for phones. The stock one for OnePlus awful, no widget for it, just looks awful, is not a smooth interface, and has the tagging error where it can't recognise half the songs I've put on it, saying it is by "<unknown>" (A wma file error I've heard?).
But my problem is that all of the apps on the Play store don't hold a candle to Samsung Music, so
1. Is there any possible way you could install Samsung Music onto a OnePlus 3T?
2. What is the best music player for the phone (ads can absolutely kill a music app)?

BlackPlayer is one my favourites, looks absolutely amazing on amoled and has tons of customisations. It fetches artist images automatically and can also fetch album covers if missing. It has a built in tag editor as well. has a customised lock screen too. You can tweek around loads of things in it. I use the paid version, here is a link to the free version:

I will always agree with anybody who says that PowerAmp is the best music player. I have tried lots of them and PowerAmp easily came out on top. It's a very, very well-made music player.
Nothing even comes anywhere near Poweramp. Well worth the purchase.

Use PowerAmp due to high customization (Both Audio & Player) !
With tons of Widgets & Skin, it is indeed one hell of a kind!
The audio quality is superb if u set it correctly aligned with every Headphones, EarPhones & Speakers
The UI is very simple too use & useful too with tons of other features...
There are BETA version too though, that one is very cool due to improved visual effect playback!
Anyways, you should try it out & support the developers!
& here i attached my screenshot of PowerAmp from my device :
Sent from my OnePlus 3T using XDA Labs
I had a Samsung tablet around the same generation as the S6, and don't remember the music player being anything special. In general, I personally can't stand the TouchWiz skin and apps.
My understanding, most the Samsung apps require the Samsung framework, so wouldn't work without it.
Have to agree, the OnePlus music player is awful, and just about useless. It blows my mind that the app doesn't support playlists of any kind (only tagging), not even making new playlists in app. This alone was a huge deal breaker, and I was done using the app in about 5 minutes.
Little different of a music player suggestion, I've been (a bit surprisingly) using the Google Play Music app. Free, with few frills, and not many customizations (it does have a simple equalizer - although I prefer a system wide sound mod like V4A ARISE). But it simply works. It's mostly touted as a music streaming player; but it works just fine with files stored locally on the phone. Aesthetics-wise, it obviously conforms to Google's Material Design, if you are into that.
Google Play Music is not completely ad free: when you first open the app, the app will ask you to subscribe to ad-free streaming. And the streaming itself will have an ad when you first start, and periodic ads after that (but seem to be much less frequent then some other music streaming apps like Pandora). No ads if you are playing your own music files.
While Google Play Music is not for everyone, I've been enjoying it. I actually really enjoy the curated Google music stations. I've discovered quite a bit of new music this way.
i also was disappointed by OnePlus music app, since it doesnt even have a real playlist function.
i got myself newest HTC music player here from xda, since i had a HTC before and knew the music player always was pretty solid. so i can recommend that if you dont have one yet.

Ah, another HTC refugee like myself. Which HTC phone did you come from? I had the old M8 before the 3T.
I was actually thinking of suggesting the HTC music app myself. It's well laid out, and simply works. Nothing too fancy, but well done, as most HTC apps are.
I messed around a bit with the "ported" HTC apps on my 3T. But it actually made me a little sad to use the HTC apps, after abandoning them for OnePlus.
I was simply losing faith in HTC (after owning several of their devices - going back to my first smartphone in the old Windows Mobile days). The U Ultra looked underwhelming, although the U11 looks like a much better phone (but still overpriced). And the removal of the headphone mini-jack was a deal breaker for me.

i had the HTC One S, the little brother of the One X. Quite old phone, but it did its job still pretty good. even though no updates further than 4.2.2, which was kinda sad and the 16GB also began to become short since apps and stuff got bigger and bigger over time. but then i had the chance to get the OnePlus3 for 250€ and i couldnt resist.
true words my friend. its just as simple as it needs to be and offers basically everything what you would expect from a decent music player. i completely removed the OnePlus music app now and made HTC music my default. i also tried Sony music app, since they had some "music phones" in the past but HTC one was still better and cleaner in my eyes.
overall i am really amazed by my OP3, but i have no idea what OnePlus was thinking to release a music player without playlist function. thats just like a music player without mp3 support, pure nonsense.
If you don't mind using Google's stuff, Play music is a rather solid player; I typically use it because I have a play music subscription. but it works for the free version too, and you can upload your own music if you don't feel like storing the files on your phone.
I personally don't care too much for poweramp, but I don't have much experience with it, so I can't say either way if it's a go, or a no-go
Phonograph is wonderful, That's what I use instead of OnePlus Music. Free, open-source, material design, and customizable, without too many frills. Exactly what I look for in a local-storage music solution. it's also the default music player for Omni, hence why I started using it in the first place.
