Task manager like the Palm Pre - Captivate Themes and Apps

Stumbled across this nice little app called "Itching Thumb" (Link goes to android zoom for overview http://tinyurl.com/29p9g8x)
It is a task manager that looks like the "card view" that some maybe familiar with from Palm.
It looks nice, runs smooth. been installed for a couple hours, no FC's. Thought others would like to know of this.

I tried this and really liked it. The one thing I couldn't stand was when you hit home from any app, it would take an extra second or two and show a black screen in order to create the screenshot for Itching Thumb. Annoying.

ya i saw this last night and decided to give it a try. it has a LOT of potential, but im gonna wait for it to be a little bit more polished. i also wish you could get it to work by long pressing home somehow so if you have it, it actually does replace the stock one. (unless i was missing something and you can long press home with it somehow)

Wish it had the flick to end apps like on webOS though. I'm sticking with powerstrip app. It was money well spent

This actually does the flick to end.
It would be nice to have it hit on a long press. All who use should msg the developer to see that added in a further build. Once more bugs are ironed out, I would totally pay for this. Its pretty solid so far. just minor kinks

8pen?

Has anyone had any luck with this? When I try it, it doesn't input any text. I've chosen the correct input method, set the keyboard, etc. No luck. How about you guys?
Too bad they want money for it.
It took me like 5 while minutes to figure it out. You will get it, just read the instructions a few times

They should've released a beta or something and then a couple months later start charging for it. This way people will get used to using the board and want to buy it. Like what SwiftKey did. I don't think the curiosity factor, alone, is enough for people to buy it. Especially since you can uninstall it in 24 hours to get a full refund.
It seems like a joke app to me. Hey lets make some ridiculous new way to enter text. People like swype, so they'll probably like anything weird and different.... but on the off chance no one likes it - lets make a pay only version - so people pay for it before they realize it actually sucks.
maybe that's just me being cynical - but swype is genuinely novel. I fail to see how this is better then the stock keyboard.

Obviously, but keep that to yourself. No one needs the trouble here from spreading that around.
So I tried 8pen. I'm actually typing this using it. I don't see it ever being as fast as swype but I can definitely see its usefullness with one hand typing and not being able to look at the screen. But the amount of time you'd have to spend memorizing all the patterns to the point you don't have to look at what you're doing would be insane.
I like it. All you have to do is memorize where the letters are, same as a normal keyboard. It seems plenty fast to me. There are a few glitches in the auto complete and some other things but overall it is a good alternative to a tiny keyboard if that is what you need or are looking for.
Any idea why I can't find this in the market? When I search there are no results. I can't find Swype in the market either.
I never can find Swype in the market either but 8pen comes up fine, maybe wait a day and look again.
I do kind of like the visible pop up it has now, but its still nowhere near as fast as my stock Sense keyboard. Then again, I can almost totally type one-handed and blind, so there you go. Now that its free, I say go get it and play with it,can't hurt.

swype is not generally available, so it's not in the market for any phone.
its still in beta (seems perpetually), and only comes pre-installed on some phones.
I'm using 8pen now and I really like it. I have these massive dumb hands and I could never get the hang of typing with those tiny keys. It works a dream for me. Even if it is a "novelty."

CM7 w/TabTweaks is....HOLY AWESOMENESS DROIDMAN!

Here's the story of how a once forgotten Nook Color got it's mojo back.
I pretty much gave up on my NC as a useable device a couple months ago. I need a back button always available. I tried softkeys but it never really worked right. It was just too cumbersome. I did the dual boot and actually liked the Honeycomb solution of always having the status bar on the bottom. But it was still just a hack job dual boot bleah...and HC doesn't really have that much app support.
I have a Windows 7 64bit box so creating those bootable SD cards was pretty much impossible...so I was stuck.
I purchased a woo-Tab (a woot G-Tablet). ROMing it was really easy and I plowed around for a couple days until I discovered CM7 with tablet tweaks. Holly Schmolly...what a revolution! froyo-like app support, and the conveniences of always having the back and menu buttons available .... right there...at the bottom ....where it belongs.
I stumbled across this thread in the NC development forum while looking for another CM7TabTweaker ROM for my gTab. hmmmm ... tablet tweaks...on the NC...I had a mission...and my NC will self destruct in 7 seconds.
So I went on a mission to get CM7TabTweaks on my NC. tried the bootable SDcard crap again like 5 times...no joy...then I found a thread that gives 5 (or so) easy ADB steps to get the new CWMod with the proper ext-4 stuff......so I tried it....and it worked.....
ALMOST HOME!
I can't tell you how excited I was....my hands were shaking...I was having the flop sweats, as those beautiful words came across my screen
CM tablet tweaks [tt.RC2] 07.04.2011#2 is installing
it seemed like and hour....then it booted...and that beautiful skateboarding blue boy came across my screen....being a pretty long toothed ROMer, I was patient, first boots always take some time...but 20 minutes! CRAP! I'm bootloopy!
back into recovery I go..."DOCTOR, DATA WIPE! STAT!.....and get me 200 cc's of Delv cache wipe..."
"The patient is wide open doc....should we just replace the heart?"
"It couldn't hurt nurse....RE-INSTALL!"
"but doctor....we didn't backup!"
"SCOTTIE! I NEED MORE POWER!"
ok now i'm mixing my movie/daytime drama metaphors....but you get the point....
so I reinstalled the ROM again....the skateboarding blue beauty came up...and.....the wife walks in and starts yammering on about something. Now all you ROMers know, that our wives pretty much think we love our devices more than them. I now try to put the device down when my better half walks in the room.
So when the Beautiful Janny is came in and started telling me a story...I put down the NC with the blue skateboarding Andy. I listened intently, trying VERY hard not to look down at the device.
When I looked down....it was like I could hear angles singing. A soft glow, was emanating from my Nook Color....there it was....a home screen....with that beautiful Tablet Tweak status bar on the bottom.
I mean...holy usefulness DroidMan ...
The moral of this story.
EVERYONE.........GET YOUR TABLET TWEAKS NOW!
It's worth any pain and suffering and wifey stories you have to endure.
Thanks for listening. Just had to share.

thanks for the narrative lol, but how about more stepbystep of the actual install process dude? im thinkin about getting a NC to overclock and load up honeycomb, but it just seems laggy even oc'd...
i love how responsive my phone is.. so even with a bigger screen, lots of lag would just piss me off. so how well does it work with the tabtweaks?
I'll add step by steps in a while...gotta get some work done

Here's what I did. Works like a charm. Next to no lag. I love it.
I don't mean any disrespect, but I guess i never got all the hype about the "Tablet Tweaks" mod. I am running it right now, and yes, it adds some nice buttons, but certainly doesn't revolutionize the device. I mean, it does nothing more than put button savior into the toolbar, and allow you to hide it in some cases.
That said, i guess i can't complain about any good dev effort on the nook; the community here is great, and I will take whatever we can get..
I think it's really just more the principle that it makes it one more step closer to being a full fledged tablet. Is it 100% need? Not really, but it does help keep the device looking cleaner and in some cases running smoother.
I like it a lot and feel like it's a very good alternative to Honeycomb.

Personally I wasn't a fan of Button Savior or Softkeys. They never worked quite right on my NC and I was constantly calling up the buttons by accident when I meant to hit something on the edge of the screen.
CM7 initially having the extra buttons at the top was a godsend for me; all the other CM7 goodies were just frosting on the cake. Mad-Murdock's implementation of the buttons and moving them to the bottom pretty much ensured CM7 will be the only ROM I need until Honeycomb officially shows up.

I guess there's a debate about how useful TabTweaks is....
I'll tell you this...I never would have handed my NC to The Beautiful Janny for her to use. She would have been soooooo frustrated after about 10 seconds. The Beautiful Janny is a techno phobe...it's takes all of my "head of household" power to keep her from going *choke* *cough* *gag* *apple*.
But I still want her to enjoy this amazing device.
Now, I just have to point to the back button, the home button and the menu key and say.
- Press that to go Back,
- That one to go to the main page,
- This one to get options where-ever you are.
Now I can hand her the device, give her those three simple instructions, and let her explore.
I'm very excited for The Beautiful Janny...and for me....and everyone else who TabTweaks their NC.
LONG LIVE CM7TabTweaks!

Obviously directed at me, so i will respond. Aside from adding perm soft buttons (like button savior), the ability to hide/show soft buttons on top of full screen apps (like button savior), the only new functionality is the ability to move the bar to the bottom (ok, but not earth shattering). The softkeys being added to the power menu is worthless to me, but i guess also worth a mention.
I am not trying to be rude to the dev, but people making this out to be earth shattering are crazy to me. Button Savior has been doing this for me for months, so i just don't get the excitement. Yes, i use RC2 of TT, simply because its the newest in code, and i like to keep up. But CM7 felt great before, and this really didn't rock my world... sorry.

Yeah, tbh, I don't get it either. I hated using both button savior and softkeys.
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
It always felt like a burden, even if only a slight one, to have to pop-out the softkeys and then finally press the button I want. I could never place the pop out button where I wanted it and I was constantly accidentally hitting it. Since this really was one of the few things that constantly reminded me that I wasn't using a device meant to be a tablet (sounds silly, perhaps but still true) I was extraordinarily excited to have all those issues fixed in one fell swoop.
These mods fit like a glove. By comparison, Button Savior and Softkeys fit like a cloth tied around your hand (no disrespect to their authors).

I ditched button savior for the tweaks. Was kinda confused. BS was closed-source, but based on softkeys which is GPL'd? Or am I smokin' crack?
I will agree with the OP (great narrative by the way, you must be in sales).
CM7TT makes the Nook feel like a turn key tablet for me. I was using softkeys on rooted stock and it felt cumbersome to operate.

I'm a geek...project manager...and you, sir, are clearly brilliant because
CM7TabTweaks Rock the House!
I've always hated SoftKeys. Button Savior was a relatively clean workaround, but pressing two buttons to get the one I wanted gets to be a little more bothersome than I like. Tablet Tweaks just feels natural, as if that's how it was supposed to be the whole time.
Further, there's more to TT than just the softkeys. The long-press hardware button mapping is great. I can't wait 'til the Volume Button mapping comes back since it was just plain handy in a variety of situations that you wouldn't think of until they came up.
the best part for me is that now everything is completely under my control.
i can have lots of buttons or none, have a status bar at all times or toggle it on and off while in full screen apps. it completely replaces a third party solution and i don't even have to map my volume keys... although if i want to map them the option will be right there without having to install anything.
not to mention all of this was done quickly and with user input. i'm also sure that this is just the beginning of something much bigger
thanks again to MM and all the people here making the nook better.

Hero compared to the 3vo

Wanted to know is anyone in hero withdrawal??? And hows everyone who has upgraded enjoying the 3vo??? Cons and pros compared to hero. I chose to start this thread because if any users are due for an upgrade can get a general idea of what to expect. Also just to have some general discussion on both phones. I loved my hero it was my first android phoe before it I never knew xda existed. It all started in a sprint store when I went in to complain about how slow it was becoming and I was regretting getting the phone and since I was still under 30 days I almost swapped it for a Samsung. Then a rep pulled me to the side because I had handed him my business card the prior visit and told me have I ever heard of apps2sd. I replied no and he told me to google it. Well I went home and did just that and that's when I discovered xda and its been a blast every since. I started at 1.5 when I rooted and I've never looked back. My hero will always have a spot on my history shelf. I never knew it was possible that a little phone could do so much. And how its a whole different world on xda I mean I blew my mind on how many members were on here and that they do it all for the love. Never have I ever regretted rooting my hero and I'm glad that that sprint rep told me about apps2sd. I even went to the exact store to thank him but he was no longer there. Whish I could have showed that man the end results I think he would've been floored lol. But now getting the 3vo Im quite fond of the screen size especially because I wear glasses and I can take them off now and still read the print fine. That was one of my biggest dislikes of the hero such small print. I'm very thankful for the developer of spareparts and the rom developers for including it in most of the roms I've used. Also I like the feel of 3vo with the rubberized back the hero has hit the floor on my occasions because it lacked that feature. I like the charger port being on the side of the phone big plus IMO because it makes it easier to surff and charge at the same time. With the hero I just chose to disable the rotation because I got frustrated with having the cord in between my fingers when I wanted to surf in landscape. Also I love the fact of the 3vo's buttons on the bottom are flush and has no clicking sound. I was always afraid of to much wear and tear on the hero's button would one day catch up to me. What I don't like is the big stupid as camera button on the side I seem to activate the camera a lot and I haven't figured out a way to disable it yet. Probably can't. I liked the heros option that if you wanted the camera you had to select the camera. I love the speed of the 3vo of course. My hero was fast as hell but can't compare to it. Well that's enough for me. Any one else???
Edit: Also if ya dont mind post what apps, launcher, and themes your still using from your hero that your using on the 3vo and how they perform and your overall setup.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
I'm using most of my apps from the hero on the 3vo. However, I can't use the ex explorer. Randomly locks up. Sucks. The htc_ime works on.it too, but hugs the left screen.
Over all, the transition from the hero is frustrating a little since I can't root or anything. So there are plenty of apps that I cannot use.
Make the switch if you can. I'll post the app list during lunch chow.
I love the phone and the performance, the screen size is awsome, but the phone doesn't feel bulky like my wifes OG Evo. Contrary to Laie, I don't like the charge port on the left side of the phone. Maybe I'll get used to it, but for the last 16 months or so the Hero has sat on the charger on the right armrest of my recliner, now doing that leaves a cord hanging across my body and it just doesn't feel normal sitting on the left arm rest. Not a big fan of the camera button either. It's nice to use as a shutter button, but awkward during normal phone usage. I haven't changed much about the HTC setup yet, but I've been busy setting up the Hero for my son. What I'm not fond of, being back on a sense rom are....the 7 homescreens (I generally only use 1), the goofy 3 button sense dockbar, and the fact that the apps I've spent so much time changing out the icons for use on the Hero and resigning are installing ok, but showing up with the original unchanged icons (I haven't yet investigated why, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the difference between the MDPI and HDPI displays). So the bottom line is that I'm definately pleased with the upgrade and the power of the phone, but I find myself tiptoeing out of my son's bedroom with the Hero in hand to flash something or try something new.
I have an otter box case, so I don't notice the camera button. I don't like the usb port on the side, but they have the right angle plugs you can get so it runs along the side of the phone. My hero feels so small compared to this phone. Oh, and the speed of it is crazy. I keep trying to use the trackball to move my cursor, but am slowly remembering its there. I'm still hanging around this forum to help out if I can.

I was overjoyed when I heard a rumor that the Kingdom was the code name for Hero 2. Turns out its not. I miss the smaller screen of the Hero. The 3VO is a big bad boy tho. Using Sense, Go SMS, Miren browser, Robo Defense, AndroXplorer, dropbox, sugar sync, zumo drive, audio galaxy, glow hockey, mobo player, news rob, spare parts, Verizon Fios DVR manager, and Zedge. With the extra horsepower of the 3VO I started using Pocket Casts (podcasts), My Beach lwp, music beta, ghostTown (if you're a music fan, check it out), amazon app store and album art grabber.
I bought my 3vo today, upgraded from my overclocked hero running the latest cm7 nightly. I miss the bulk in hand of the hero. The 3vo is big but doesn't fall to hand quite the same. The camera button is awkward as well as the usb placement for me.
The performance can't even be compared. The 3vo is blazing fast. Network is fast. Everything just feels instant. It's really hard to describe the difference coming from the hero. I kind of miss the physical keys and the menu unlock and the trackball. I definitely have the itch to root and flash this thing already.
In all honesty, I bought the phone out of excitement for something new. I could care less about the 3d features but would get so frustrated at watching my gf's droid x do things my phone just couldn't do. That was enough to justify the purchase. Will I keep it? I'm still not sure. I'm kind of hoping we get a couple of new offerings during the 30 day trial (SgsII, kingdom, photon) but overall I'm pleased at the performance.
I think I'm going to purchase a case (something I never did with the Hero) just to add to feel in hand. I'm definitely going to miss the hero, and will keep it around, but it was just beyond dated.

The flashing urge is not quite as bad for me.....I do still have a pair of Nooks, an OG Evo, the Optimus, and the Hero in my care, but yeah.....the Hero's still my favorite even with the tiny little screen and the silver paint worn off of all the buttons and the menu button that doesn't actually press down anymore.

Turned mine off on Friday, Haven't turned it back on. I got burnt out on having to always set everything back up after flashing a new ROM, that I finally stuck with each ROM for months at a time. All I really want is custom kernels and free hotspot and usb tethering.
It's funny you are posting this in the Hero forums. What are you trying to do? Make them all jealous!
Changed my mind.....I'm taking mine back. Can't take the stupidity in those forums, it's even worse then the Nook forums. Some guy just posted a month old link to a post that says HTC will unlock the bootloader.....Geez we didn't know

There's other sites besides XDA, but most good devs are on XDA, and some of the other sites just link you back here for ROMs. Just do what I do. Don't go to General or click a thread that doesn't look good.

Every HTC phone is going to have a lot of bloat. But even with all the bloat the phone is running smooth as can be. It doesn't slow it down at all. You could put ADW or LP on it and it will run 1000 times better than the Hero.

Yes google Amazon app store. Its great! They offer one free paid app a day. That is how I found pocket cast.
Ghosttown, very awesome. It takes videos from youtube and streams the audio to your phone, pretty good quality too. If you search by artist it will organize all the songs by albums, given if the video exists on youtube. Tried with the Hero and it was very choppy. Works great on 3G with the 3VO.
So happy with the phone. I have a wireless N router at home where my 4G signal is kinda weak and the phone is N compatible. 4G is strong at my work.

There's other sites besides XDA, but most good devs are on XDA, and some of the other sites just link you back here for ROMs. Just do what I do. Don't go to General or click a thread that doesn't look good.

GoSms pro (its free, dont let the pro fool you). It can be setup to mimick the iphone ui (bubbles) or set up to mimick the stock sms ui (list). But my favorite feature is that it has an option to stay locked in memory so that it opens instantly when you need it. That feature to me is what seperates it from the rest of the sms apps out there.

I like GoSMS as well but am unfamiliar with that feature. I've just browsed through all the settings and didn't see it. Where's it and and whats it called?
EDIT: so I found an option that allows it to "run persistently" which is probably what your talking about. Mine's always been enabled and it still takes a second to launch every time I use it. I guess it would take longer if it was disabled. Having said that I used Handcent for a while and it was 10x faster, just uglier and didn't have an option to disable native SMS notifications so I was getting double notification even if I went and turned off notification in the native SMS app. I can handle a second delay when opening Go over the drawbacks of Handcent.
Ok looks like I have a few options to look at. Now to get my mind to want to keep the droid over the iPhone. I'm finding it a bit strange to get used to

I came from an iPhone as well. Give it a few days, or weeks. It takes a bit to get used to the Android but when you do there are things I wouldn't trade for the world.

Such as?
I just have gotten so used to the feel of my iPhone over the last 3 years. I'm thinking I'll give it a week or so as I have 30 to return it. Just seems clumsy the way things are set up. I don't have a dock for more than 4 apps, it doesn't open to an apps screen, I have to scroll for them. Finally figured out how to turn off the key pd vibrate thing. That was annoying me to death.
You might want to give ADW launcher a try. It has a dock feature aswell as a page style app menu. Where you can slide the page of apps left to right. YouTube should have a demo of it in action. Its a very personalizable Launcher. You can even get a apple theme for it.

Thats one of the great things about android, you can make it look and function however you want. Youre not stuck with the the way the phone comes. I cant stand the stock lg launcher either but there are tons of replacements out there.

Nexus 5/Kit Kat disappointments

Coming from the Nexus 4, which I loved and Jelly Bean, I just received my Nexus 5 yesterday and have some disappointments. Let me know if you guys agree and if I'm overlooking anything and can fix.
1 FIXED - Ok, Google sucks at making home screen launchers, apparently. I have to use an aftermarket app for my home screen) I LOVE Google Now. I used it quite a bit on my Nexus 4 by holding the home button and swiping up. Now they made it so Google Now is locked on the left side. WTF? I loved having my "home" screen in the middle, with two screens on the left and two on the right. I had a Trip It widget and Keep widget on the left, each on their own screen. I had some other often used apps on the right and my Calendar widget each on their own on the right. No screen was more than two swipes away. Now I have to swipe 4 screens to the right to get to my last one. That sucks. I can turn Google Now off to get my screens back, but then I don't have Google Now at all. This sucks, Google. What are you thinking?
2) I thought it made total sense to have the Play Store link right above the apps in the app drawer. When someone would ask, "do you have XXXX app?" I'd look and if I didn't, I could touch right there to enter the Play Store and download. Now, I have to scroll to find the Play Store app icon. Or put it on one of my screens. This seems like they're going backward here. Why remove that? To make it prettier? Aesthetics over functionality.
3 FIXED!) I love talking to my phone and used voice to text quite often. Now when I go to text someone, I can't see the mic anywhere on the keyboard. Really? Why did they rearrange the keyboard and remove this? Oh, now I get all these cute smiley faces and crap I'll NEVER use, but the mic is gone. Why?
4) Speaking of rearranged keyboard layouts, why change it up? I was pretty used to my Jelly Bean keyboard. Now they rearranged the exclamation point to the other side. And maybe others. I can't recall exactly until I start texting and hit a wrong key, pressing something which used to be another symbol. I'll eventually get used to that, but why change it? It was fine as it was.
5) HUGE icons. Why? To look my iPhone(ish)? Jelly Bean had 5 rows of 5. Now we get huge icons and 5 rows of 4. Not a huge deal, but if you have a bunch of apps, it takes longer to scroll through them all and you can't fit as many of your most used on one screen.
6) I love the home screen rotate on my Nexus 7. Google never thought to add this to the Nexus 4. And now it's not on the Nexus 5 either. I've used an app called "Rotate" to perform this and loved it, but now that Kit Kat extends the background to show behind the toolbars (which I love the look of, by the way), when I use "Rotate" to flip the home screen when I hold the phone horizontally, that black bar shows on the right. Again, not a huge problem here and maybe Rotate will update to a Kit Kat compatible version, but why doesn't Google add this functionality out of the box for its Nexus phones when they do it for the Nexus 7?
7) The notification sounds seem even quieter than the Nexus 4, which wasn't the loudest ever. I always turn vibrate on text OFF so when I'm texting back and forth, it's not unnecessarily wasting battery. But in doing so, I could most times hear my Nexus 4 chime when in my pocket. Not with the 5. I find myself pulling it out of my pocket every 15 mins to see if I missed any calls, emails or texts. I guess I'll have to turn on the notification vibration and sacrifice battery life, but that's lame.
If I'm overlooking anything which fixes any of these, please advise!
Oh well.

I have similar disappointments. Mainly the lack of the store in the top of the app drawer.

The mic is there, I've just double checked on my nexus 5.
Are you sure you didn't disable it yourself in input settings ?
It seems like people are just trying to find things to complain about now.

That's what I was hoping I did by accident, but I can't see where I would have. In settings > language & input > google keyboard settings, I have the
"voice input key" checked. I assumed that's what I need. I unchecked it, looked and the mic wasn't there. I re-checked it, looked and the mic isn't there. What am I overlooking?

Yep, it's there. Make sure "Google voice typing" is checked under language and input
EDIT: Don't click on Google keyboard, look down a few and check Google voice typing
I seriously don't want to man. I loved the Nexus 4 and was SO excited with this. But when you're used to things and they change for the worse (my opinion, things that are USEFUL to me), it's more than annoying, it's a real issue. 1, 2, 3 and 7 are all big deals to me. 1 - It makes the phone less simple. Most actions needed to get to what I use. 2 - same as 1, more steps needed to get to the Play Store. 3 - hopefully I'm overlooking something, but speaking my texts to my phone saved me A LOT of texting time. 7 - a ****ty speaker means I can't hear maps directions and have to look down at my phone more. That's not something I'm just trying to find an issue with, it's a real issue.

Hell yeah. Thanks bro. I don't know how I overlooked that. Ok, that's one problem down! Fixes for the others, guys?
P.S. - This 5 minute between posts thing for new users blows. Verify me, mods.

As for the speaker - I'm not sure what the complaints are about. It blows away my S3's and every other phone I've had...
Another one of these threads....#2 really? This is something to complain about.
I don't use Samsung products because I hate Touch Wiz and all the other bloatware on it. Yeah, I know it can be unlocked and modded, but I don't get into all of that. I came from an EVO 4G and liked it a lot, but once I got my Nexus 4, I could never go back to a phone with HTC Sense. The speaker was far better on the EVO though than the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5, to me, seems even quieter.

I kinda do agree with you on 1). I felt uncomfortable when first started to use Nexus 5 because I had a similar screens setup to yours on S4.
But I've changed my habits pretty quickly. Although I'm only using Calendar widget that occupies whole screen and one more screen (apart from home) for apps.
Why can't you just change your launcher and swipe up to open Google now.
These complaints are seriously getting out of control. Android is about options. If you don't like the way something acts, use something else. If you don't like the keyboard, use another one!
Yep. It's going backward in features. That was useful as hell. If you never used it, ok, but give me something to make things easier, I get used to it and dig it. Take it away and I'm annoyed. Why take it away? It reminds me of the "new" Google Maps. They took away a few features that I LOVED.
I'm tied into Google. I use a lot of their offerings. But I'm not going to blindly defend everything they throw out, I'm going to honestly say what I like and dislike.

This. FFS stop complaining. Before long people are gonna start saying you're apple fan boys posting to start drama.

Can I have your Nexus 5 then?
Cool, suggest something for me, please. I don't like screwing with things too much, I like vanilla Android as Google intended. But I liked Jelly Bean Android. Kit Kat feels less intuitive. I know Android is all about the ability to be free and have different choices, but the reason I got rid of my HTC EVO was because I hate skins and crap on my Android. I just want it plain and yummy. If there's an alternative launcher that looks just like Jelly Bean, sweet, I'm all in. I just don't want it to give completely different functionality in other ways.

Nova Launcher
I'm actually considering going back to my Nexus 4 and selling this. Obviously, I won't be jumping to Kit Kat when it's available on the N4.
But this is why I post - maybe there are fixes.
And guys, aren't these forums about helping? No, I don't use Apple products. Nothing against 'em, but I'm tied into Google and don't care to switch. I just loved most everything about my Nexus 4 and was hoping to love the 5 even more.
