[Q] Which lag fix uses the EXTERNAL SD card?
with so many choices for lag fixes
i kinda lost track which project was the one that was doing the symlink and copying data to the EXTERNAL SD card.
External SD cards can easily be replaced if dead
Internal SD card is a pain in the back when it dies
at the same time this is a perfect scenario for SD cards performance test for Class 2, Class 4, Class 6+ speed tests
Class 8 and Class 10 are not widely available yet for microSD format.
if some one remember the Dev topic please link it
thanks
no body is using this lag fix?

not anymore, seems like no one cares that the lag fixes writes to the internal SD instead of the external SD
I remember using it before. it's called mimocan or something. went through a lot of trouble to format my card into ext4.
There was something on modacco about it I recall... maybe Paul did it

yeah that! paul madacco!
I can't recall the name either but in the last 2 months we've moved on from external fixes as it was annoying to create the external partition, Also speed wise it wasn't a good fix.
There is the old mimocan lag fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724251
and also this new attempt using JFS FS on the external card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812836
Modaco lag-fix was using the oneNAND fast memory. But it is internal and also is "limited" in size. ~130MB available only.
thanks i am using the internal modacco fix i guess. no problems with it.. but again limited in size although i have about 100 apps installed and still have 78 meg free. so probably could go over 200 as long as you dont have huge apps like certain games..
it seems like it is a lot less hard on the internal sd.. and maybe that is why it makes more sense to use this or one that does use the external sd for the i9000m specificially which is touchy with the internal sd card.
that's exactly my goal
since it's a known issue, it'll be better off playing with External SD, as they can be easily replaced if dead
you can also keep upgrading to newer faster models of SD cards

I've verified that my swapfile is in use. It is set to 32mb right now. I'm using the stock card. When I use alot of apps I'm still seeing the htc screen sometimes. I just ordered a ultimate class 6 133x 20mb/s card. Will this help the problem? And what are your thoughts on pushing it to slightly higher than 32mb? Even with a blazing fast sd card??

Yes, your stock SD card will be a bottleneck in using swapper and Apps2SD for that matter. But, you really should partition it w/ 3 partitions (FAT32, ext2/3, linux-swap, in that order). The linux-swap partition works worlds better than the swapper. 32MB is optimal, any higher will not speed it up, more likely it will make it slower. Set up those 3 partitions, and flash the new JACHero2.7.3 and you'll amazed at the difference. There's a new swap-type thing going on w/ compcache, but that hasn't been incorporated into the builds yet, so just stick with linux-swap for now.
If you wanna know how to set up the 3 partitions, follow the instructions from the JACHero2.7.3 thread in the development thread. Good luck
You sure its compatible with the g1? 20mb/s? Wow. You won't have anything to worry about if its that fast....Never heard of a micro sdhc card that quick lol. Mind shooting a link on your OP? Thanks

Killer SD card on its way to my house omg i can't wait!!
I have been hacking my Nook with Cyanogenmod for a couple months now. I have tried running Froyo and CM7 on an SD card but I prefer to just have it flashed to the EMMC. However, it always seems that my nook runs choppy, laggy and slow. This when I overclock it as well. Am I doing something wrong to install it?
All I simply do is flash the newest Clockwork, boot into it, wipe System, data and cache, then install CM7. Once I get booted it seems like there is considerable lag in opening the App drawer, scrolling in just about anything.
I was watching some youtube videos of people showing there CM7 Nooks and mine doesn't even seem close to as quick... All EMMC installs should be the same right?
Thanks for the help!
I have noticed this as well.. I wonder what is it they do to get such snappy responses? Are you running 1300 mhz overclock? I also wonder if they have a different lag fix of some sort.
My understanding is that the eMMC is basically a soldered in microSD and it stands to reason that if you're using a better/faster external SD card, it should appear to be faster in most respects.

But I guess I am looking at videos like this one where they are running the OS from the eMMC and it is running like butter:
Sorry can't post link: but the name of the video is "B&N Nook Color Running Rooted Android Froyo 2.2 @ 1.1Ghz"
Mine does not go this quick at all...

I have not done 1300mhz, but I cant image that would fix the problem.

Yeah I have to admit, that definitely appears to be very smooth. When I'm scrolling through my various apps, it's nowhere near that. Then again I'm running CM7 off a 2gb SD card. Up until now, I've been under the impression that the performance was very similar between eMMC and external installs. Now I'm not so sure...
I had the same problem but I was installing wrong. I took wiping as just wipe data factory reset. When I reflashed I went to mount and formatted everything except boot it worked flawlesssly

I always do that too. In fact I usually wipe everything, then reboot back into CWM and then wipe everything again, then install. Seems like overkill I know, but I am at my wits end here...
damn me seeing those videos. I was happy and now I am going to have to figure out how to get my nook running that smooth.

Ug.. not really. The eMMC is basically an SSD memory chip; no hack jobs about this.
Well I have loaded Nookie Comb and it seems to be the quickest ROM that I have had on my Nook yet. I still think that it could be faster than what I am seeing but I am happier now.
Still can't get over the fact that people say that Cyanogen is smooth and awesome on the Nook and I haven't seen that to be the case at all. Either I am doing it wrong or I am just incredibly picky or something!

Actually, Kadin is essentially correct. Embedded MMC (eMMC) is not a raw flash memory chip. It's is a flash chip with built-in controller that interfaces to its host using the standard MMC Plus interface. Replace "MMC Plus interface" with the very similar "SD interface," package it a little differently, and you have an SD card.
That said, an eMMC device very well could have controller and/or organization optimizations that make it better at hosting an operating system than most SD cards.
The EMMC is very slow unfortunately. I've seen a write speed of only 2mb/s. That's worse than most SD cards. Class 2 level.

guys i know you all heard for this app (Ram manager pro)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.RAMOptimization&hl=en
but, i bet lot of you didnt notice a biiiiiig update...now you can swap your RAM on your internal, the fastest partition in our device (not even close to sd card class100)
but, im not sure about it, and i ask for help from developers or android wizz that know this method...
i noticed that this thing works, but, after you swap, you dont have space left...so, iv got partitioned my sd card, only to 256mb, just to check...and it really works again!
Again, but, you need to create swap file right after flashing fresh rom, so it (swap file) occupy internal memory at once! Cause, if you instal some apps, it will use sd ext, and probably go to sd card, wich doesnt make any difference in performance...
Once again, im asking for opinion of expert, to confirm this...
Im using latest jb4.2.2, and best way to check this is to play some game and to listen a music at same time : DIDNT GET FC OR ANY LAG!
tnx in advance
NOTE: don't create swap bigger than 128mb, thats our max internal
Does it really works? Because i used to swap too but it didnt make any difference in performance. The only thing i notice is my phone got hotter alot.....

Tried this last year .....the script was made by custdroid.....
Unfortunately the constant read and write on ROM is not so good for the hardware.. ...so I deprecated the project for mini also with such low internal memory I could create only 32mb swap on internal and the phone soon started yo take its toll ...you may try this but I am sharing my experience cause it may feel smooth for sometime but it reduces the life of your mini considerably cause ROM is supposed to non-volatile unlike RAM which is volatile...

Hi. I just want to ask how much free memory do you have on your internal SD. On L90 there is 8GB and 4 Gb from these are for the user. I have free only 1,11 GB and used 2,67 GB, but I do not know where are all the files (2,52GB)..please take a look at the screenshot.
Download Clean Master from Google play and run cleaning, and search for big files
Tried. Nothing interesting found..

Weird. In Solid Explorer you will see top 20 biggest files, you might want to try it out.
They are beeing used as other partitions
