I've had my Wildfire since a few days before the UK release (a lucky call to T-Mo one morning!) and generally I quite like it.
However, I can't break 1.5 MFLOPS on Linpack, no matter what I try.
I normally run WildPuzzleROM 7.3.1, on a stock kernel. This gets me at best, 1.3. So I tried a few different flavours of Froyo; WildPuzzle, Cyanogen and Openfire. At each point, I've tried the stock kernel as cooked with the ROM, and also HCDR.Jacob's kernel. I've installed SetCPU each time, trying it on performance and standard, even with both the sliders pushed right up. I've done the tests before installing any other apps I use, and without any installs, downloads, etc, going in the background.
And despite all of this, I cannot break 1.5.
Am I expecting too much from the Wildfire? Or is there something wrong with my device on a hardware level?
Any help would be appreciated.
Chris
hmm there might be somthing wrong as i get around 4.7-5.099 on openfire
Its low because you're on stock with no overclock or jit
As before, I AM using a non-stock ROM, and have tried a few different non-stock kernels, including pre-overclocked and ones overclocked using SetCPU.
When I used Wildpuzzle ROM v.8.0.11 with non OC Kernel(did not boot), I had round about 1,9 MFLOPS. Now with Openfire v. 2.2 on 710MHz I get results between 4,5 and 4,7 MFLOPs. I'm using no system tools or something. Maybe slow sd card?! I'm using samsung 2gb which was preinstalled when I bought my wf.
I managed a 3.65 @ 768MHz yesterday on CM6.1. I was getting about 2.1 on Wildpuzzle 8.0.8 but without any OC kernel.
I just ran another test on CM6.1 with JIT turned on and got 3.48 @ 768MHz. Is there any way to boost this further?
I'm still really impressed and awestruck at how much better the phone is with these mods. It's like a got a whole new model now

That's probably it. I've only got 3-4 apps installed and just did a complete wipe of the sd-card.
And another thing, do you have your phone overclocked to 768 constantly or does it change depending on system load? Becouse I do usually have my phone set to overclock when needed, but I set the clock speed to always stay at 768 before I run the banchmark to be sure the cpu runs at maximum speed.
I am using cm [email protected] 768hmz and getting 5.16 with jit on...
And with jit off, i get 3.3 maximum @ 768hmz

I'm using OpenFire 2.3 and just gut 2.2 MFLOPS on linpack, i suppose not so good. I wonder what is JIT and how can i be sure if it is on or off.
It says it's on by default on openfire but i wanna be sure coz 2.2 score is pretty low. How can i check that?
Sorry for the dumb question coz i'm new to android.

JIT is,(without getting all technical on you), the new compiler in Froyo that makes thing go faster.
But I don't know how to check if it's enabled in openfire, I used openfire a while back but cant remember seeing anything about JIT in the settings. It might be so that it is always enabled and you can't disable it.

There are packages in the open fire thread that lets you turn jit on or off...

there you go
to know if JIT is enabled type in ADB or in Terminal
adb:
:adb shell
:dalvikvm -h
you should see below "with JIT"
terminal

If its disbaled you should see "fast"

Ok, I am a total noob and I only understand about half of what I have read, but I am addicted to this stuff. I have a hero with the latest sprint release (2.1) and then I rooted (thanks to Regaw) it and loaded a non OC'd version of Aloysius 2.1 and then moved to the PureHero 2.1.
However, I cannot run ANY overclocked ROM's, not one. I have tried other builds and other dev's and it just boot loops. I have the kernel for OC'ing, but it just won't boot when an OC'd ROM is flashed.
Am I out of luck with this device?
Thanks!

Figures. I want to try out a few other ROM's and can't. Figures.....oh well, at least Aloyisus 2.1 is a great ROM.
Edit: Weird thing happened, I flashed Blue Echo and got to it's boot screen, but then it boot looped.
Hey just wanted to update, thanks to D3fault and this link, I was able to OC my phone. I am running 710 on Aloysius 2.1 snow (768 froze my phone, thank heaven for Nandroid) via the OC widget on the market. My LWP is faster and my phone loads pages FAST. One thing though, I still cannot download OC'd ROM's.
Anyone have another suggestion?

Yes, place on SD and flash. Once I did that I was able to grab the OC widget from the market and run aloysius 2.1 at 710. Makes a pretty significant difference BTW. Here is a link, http://forum.androidcentral.com/162759-post49.html
I just recently rooted and started loading ROMs that support SetCPU to overclock. I was wondering if there was a way to overclock the Sprint HTC Hero without running someone's rom (like Fresh Toast)? The only reason I rooted was to make my phone less laggy but I hate all these ROMs/Mods because most of them are broken/incomplete and hate how I always have to wipe my phone to update//change ROM.
Since lately I've been trying to do the exact same thing, I should be able to help.
You're going to have to root your phone (which you obviously already have done) and flash a kernel that allows OCing.
this is the only one I know of on this site: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690238
However, that one did not work for me. (I was always stuck at the HTC boot screen). You should try it though, and if it doesn't work PM me and I'll PM you a link to another site that had a kernel that worked for me.. since I don't know if linking to other sites is allowed.

Sadly, the stock rom cannot be overclocked (for pretty obvious reasons.) Give Fresh Toast a try. I am running it without any problems. Toast's custom kernel makes it super fast. I also recommend using overclock widget with these settings:
Screen on: min: 576000 max: 768000
Screen off: min and max: 245800
just be sure to check "use my frequencies" and hit "detect frequencies" so the kernel does its job.

The stock ROM CAN be OCed if you flash a custom kernel that allows it.

I am currently running Fresh Toast, but after about 2 days of using it with SetCPU at 768000 max and 19200 min, my phone starts to get as laggy as before. I dont really know how to use SetCPU maybe I'm using it wrong, I just tapped the option where it chooses for you. Let me know what settings I should have it on if these are wrong.

You flash it the same way you flash a ROM I believe. Use the "flash from zip" or whatever it's called in recovery. Put the zip in the root of your sd card. You're going to want to put stock 2.1 on it again first though I think, unless you want to keep your current ROM.

a kernal is the foundation of an os. all the system values are stored there, its like...the engine of the phone;from a software perspective.
id highly recomend darchworks. by far the fastest, and i promise youll never need an oc tool. just hope you dont mind kissing sense goodbye

im happy you liked it, because its the best jk!
you should know that in most cases, if your experiencing lag, sense is usually to blame. why dont you give zens slide port a go? sense with a whole lost more options and its definatly overclocked...iht it was the fastest sense rom ive ever used.
Does one exist? I've done a lot of XDA searching and reading, and can't find one single rom that has all of these features..
I am looking for greater performance. I've gotten 3.0 MFLOPS with Linpack
I dont mind if the rom has sense or not.
Yes, I have practiced: rooted, nandroid BU, titanium backup, and have wiped and flashed multiple roms (DC, Aloysius, FreshToast, PureHero, Superhero, Darchdroid)
(I have flashed dconfig and the apps2sd on top of the roms and it undoes theming)
Should I just flash what I want on top of DC, or wait for new builds?
Looks like Buufed 2.0.1 or BlueEcho 2.1.6
Any other ideas?
40+ people looked at this... clearly they had the same question.
Anyone?
Most of the roms u saides u tried have all the things ur looking for purehero would be the fasest of those i'm guessing cause it's senseless and it has a2sd already in the rom and also has dconfig inculded and dd2.7 also has a2sd imcluded but it's more like the froyo a2sd as in the a2sd is controled in settings>manage apps>app name and both those are oc'ed and dd2.7 can be undercolted as well so I would try them agaim and linpack does work the best with our prosser so it will be hard to get more than 3mflops with amy rom till mayne froyo. But I have heard of giys getting around 5 with dd2.7
Sent from my HERO200 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Thanks, gobi. I didnt know that darchcroid had the .29 kernel
DD2.7 I was getting around 2.8 to 3.1 MFLOPS.
maybe it was A2SD in menu
The Darktremor A2SD/Apps2SD will work for just about any rom out there (if it doesn't work on a particular rom, let me know and I'll check it out). I currently run it on DarchDroid 2.7. Previously, I was running it on Buufed, Fresh, Blue Echo, modified stock rom, DamageControl, FreshToast...you can tell I switch roms a lot (have to test the program on various roms to make sure it works).
So, if you want the Darktremor Apps2SD, just pick a rom you want to use and download the 2.7 Update 3r1 or 2.7.5. Preview Fix 2.

DarchDroid 2.7 for me is between 4.5 & 4.8 MFLOPS.
Hey, I want to listen to driving direction thru my bluetooth...Hero with plantronic pro any suggestions. Thanks
I too am hitting 4.5-4.8 MFLOPS on DarchDroid 2.7 with the UV/OC #15 kernel. Didn't realize it was .34 based until I read this thread. =)
The crazy thing to me is, I downloaded the Froyo build a few days ago, and I can't get above 2.5 MFLOPS with it. Was really shocking, and made it incredibly worth it to stick with DarchDroid 2.7. I'm missing the HTC phone (in-call, mainly) and contacts, but otherwise 2.7 is a dream come true!
Thanks to all of you...
Thanks, Ive found that Buufed was the smoothest.
I love the way PureHero Snowmaps looked, but in the end I think I'm going with DarchDroid.
tkirton thanks for your help.
Guys, thanks for your feedback on Darchdroid.
I cant find any info yet on the UV kernel. I look at that next.
Which version
Is there any notation on which version to use?
One for JIT, one for A2SD?
Do i flash both?

This is Froyo Sense coming to Vogue...
Calling does not work!!
The latest kernel 240x320 works the best.
It runs about as fast as Super Hero with no Overclocking when WildVogue is oc'ed to 520 mhz with Rogue tools
It runs from a system.img but i am working to strip it down to NAND
Data should be put on NAND
I have no clue if this will work on Polaris or Kaiser(It'd be helpful if someone could try...)
here are some preliminary screenshots(attached).
This preliminary(Beta) build:
Thanks vellowax for all the help
Thanks Thoughtlesskyle for your kind suggestions
And the whole community for all the previous work that helped me get here.
Its a port from WildPuzzle v8 for Wildfire
the androidinstall.tar is here
I'm looking for help learning and developing it but I'm coming along
This is a Beta I have no responsibility whatsoever if you brick your phone
If you have any suggestions please reply in this thread
Lovely!

Excellent Jholtom, I've linked this thread in Kaiser forums, If noone will be brave enough to try it out I will test it in the afternoon. Great job!
link is doesnt work if i download this ill try yhe kaiser but icant download this link
The link is fixed now
can not install kaiser because low memory on nand
What Kernel are you using for this jholtom ?
I tried using the 11/29/10 2.6.32 kernel and was getting an error message.
I'll try again with the 10/29/10 2.6.32 kernel
Will give this a try.
I have it installed on the kaiser. It took a little work but its on. It will only work in 320x240 and with at least 200 mb for sys and then use an ext2.img for data. One problem I am having though is that all the HTC setup apps fc. I am going to try just removing them and see how that works. I used an old october kernel as I tried to update to the 11/29 one and was getting a module error and did try the android update and it didnt solve it so I rolled back.
trashed my super froyo so i guess ill give this a try........
great jobs,i'll give it a try
I managed to actually get into the rom finally. I took a setupwizard from a froyo rom and used it. I had to really fight with it though. The wizard ran poorly, and the date and time settings at the end kept fc'ing looping it back to the beginning of the wizard until finally it went into the rom. Going to test it now. I do not believe its a phone issue but a build issue as of right now. If you could remove the date and time settings it is referring to then I think it might be a bit better.
To run on the kaiser so far i've had to:
Set resolution to 320x240, Change partition to be 200 MB on SYS and rest on DATA via ext2.img . Afterwards I took a setupwizard.apk from a froyo rom and then renamed and replaced the HTCSetupWizard.apk the rom included as that was contributing to FC's.
On the kaiser wifi and the radio are not working. Both get an error when attempting to be used. I am going to try bringing in a etc folder from a working froyo rom and see if that solves the issue.
Lastly there is a power issue on the kaiser. It seems to keep thinking its almost near dead while on usb even though in the kernel it shows the proper power levels.
OK...
Tried this on my Vogue
the 10-31-10 2.6.25 NBH kernel will work.
BUT!!!
Do NOT try this on a class 2 card - OMFG... WAY too slow
Class 4 or class 6 at least...
Hopefully you can fit it in NAND soon?

Everything works fine on my vogue running 240x320 2.6.32-froyo-09/10/21 kernel

Wifi and radio have not been repaired yet from froyo i'm working on

What device are you on?
I would try the 240x320 2.6.32 froyo 09/10/21 kernel for vogue(if thats what you have)
I dont know for kaiser of polaris
The build itself is a decent speed but the problem is, your not able to clock up with rogue tools until after you have everything set up. So default were at 400 mhz which is dirt slow. As for the kernel, I don't believe thats going to make a difference here. I did try to merge the etc folder with fresh froyo's and it made no difference. I thought maybe the missing wifi levels folder and a couple other things would help.
That means our problem is deeper somewhere else for those. Also, I would include rogue tools in the build itself to save some hassle downloading it at slow speeds.
fyi, i'm a kaiser developer. I know I never post on the vogue or polaris forums.

Thanks mssmison for the info.

Thats not the same as overclocking through atools right? I know that through a tools the kaiser gets unstable as all hell. For some reason it doesnt with rogue tools.
i currently have Sparksmod 2.1 and i am unsatisified. too laggy.
I can't decide on which rom to get, COS-DS , GINGERYOSHI, OR ADS MAGPIE?
I have researched and according to many, all these roms are good. Which should i get and why? please be specific.

if it is cm stuff you want then follow the firerat link on ADS's dropbox site
it is Magpie built into CM7
forget yoshi roms they are just binary mixes of old ezterry / cm with themes added
for A good stable ROM then look at Ezterry and ADS if you want built in apps2sd
for added functionality (cm) then COS or as mentioned above Magpie CM7 (which is over three weeks old now )
atm I'm using CM7 Magpie
It is not quite as snappy as ezterry/ADS but has all the extra CM features
I haven't tried COS yet but it looks to be a good mix of ezterry, magpie and cm and will no doubt be many times better than yoshi's because it is built from source and not just a mix of old binaries
so cos-ds then?

yeah why not
like I said I havn't actually tried it myself yet
looking at the thread the latest versions may have some stability issues since the Magpie was added.
but tbh there is nothing stopping you from giving all four a spin
maybe try the CM7 Magpie first
reason being it will be the slowest but has the most features
I think that will give you a useful benchmark to compare with the other more lightweight roms
Its just a case of finding which features of CM you can live without
(but I think ADS will be adding in the dropdown powerwidget soon as Roalex has tipped Anddisa as to what is required )
That's the great thing with COS, ADS and Ez
they are all sharing to make things better
Yoshi is just Mixing up several pre-compiled roms.
There is no real development/innovation going on
yea thats what i was thinking that COS-DS might have some stability issues since its still in the nightly stages.
I was looking for something stable and fast.
By a long shot try COS-DS. Ive been running it awhile and its very stable. I dont know where anyone gets that it aint. Give it a try you wont be dissapointed.

I have tried all of these Gingerbread Roms and all of them have their pros and cons....so it depends on the user's preference what he wants from the rom...
SPECIAL NOTE: We all should be immensely thankful to all these developers who are spending their valuable time and energy in creating these roms free for us and keeping our old phones alive.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ITS MY OWN EXPERIENCE. IT CAN VARY FROM USER TO USER AND DEVICE TO DEVICE DEPENDING ON SETTINGS AND MODE OF USE.
i think Ginger Yoshi it faster than other , it's have 41% compcache hack and more , its also can use swap and two other isn't currently support ! , but CM Setting in COS-DS is bester and it's update alway , i hope in not so far , RomManager in COS-DS will complete
and sr about my poor english

all three roms support compcache and all you need is just a simple script to change the value of compcache used. install gscript, copy the script and run it
here is 32 compcache
Code:
swapoff /dev/block/ramzswap0
rzscontrol /dev/block/ramzswap0 --reset
rzscontrol /dev/block/ramzswap0 --disksize_kb=32576
rzscontrol /dev/block/ramzswap0 --init
swapon /dev/block/ramzswap0
free
you can change the figure to any value that suits you.
swap can be done using firerat's all in one patch
p/s:the increase compcache script can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6762470&postcount=208
pro COS-DS
+1 for COS-DS!
Use the latest release (04/21) for satisfying stability and speed.

Just a small correction....GingerYoshi RC7 (latest one) has 61% CompCache Hack.....and that obviously makes it much faster than other gingerbread roms.

that's an interesting staring point for the discussion.
I tried COS briefly and found it really slower than my CM 6.1-2708. I'm after speed & stability mostly. I'll be trying ADS this week then.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
@azrash : thanks a lot man , i just discovery it , lol @@ , i'll try it , i love COS-DS but i never try that scrip before, i discovery it by you lol , and i can ask you some thing about this
Thanks a lot again
