I have one of the Hero's that will not let me overclock past 691, plus there is a crap load of dust underneath my screen.....do you think Sprint would exchange my phone for one that will let me overclock into the 700's?
How long have you had it, out of curiosity
...and I doubt they'd do it if that's the reason you tell them you want a swap!

It is just under a year, I am probably going to just upgrade to the Evo in December since I am due for an upgrade then. But it annoys me that I can't overclock the way most of you guys can.
I always call them rather than go in. Tell them you live 20 miles or so from the nearest repair center. They will transfer you to a truobleshooter, the Hero has a known speaker problem. Say when using the phone you can barely understand because the speaker is crackling. That worked for me, one of the 4 replacements I have gotten
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
It also helps that the phone you want to replace is your primary line. One I want to try next is the USB, this way they dont know if it is your phone or the charger. They will have to send a complete kit (new phone) rather than a replacement.

Why can't.I hear people when I make phone calls on my HTC hero cdma? I can hear them when a Bluetooth is connected, speaker, and when I have head phones plugged in... has anyone had this problem before? Should I restore my phone back to stock rom and take phone to sprint?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
If you can hear the other person while on a Bluetooth, using a 3.5mm corded headset or using the speakerphone on the HTC Hero, I hate to say it, but you very well may have a defective earpiece hotboyray. The reason I say this is all three methods you mention bypass the electrical circuit of the earpiece and all three work as you stated while in a call. You could always restore your HTC Hero back to OEM and see if the earpiece works. If it does, then hotboyray, some aspect of the ROM code you were using after rooting became corrupted. If not and as long as you have TEP on your account, it shouldn't cost you anything to go into the closest corporate Sprint S&R center and have a TSC either repair the earpiece or worst case scenario, have a replacement device ordered for you. I hope my bit of 411 is of assistance to you.
I had that problem about 2 weeks ago.
The ear speaker module is about a 10 minute fix.
Bring it to your local Sprint repair center for the repair
Since your rooted and I don't know your local stores policy it's probably best to unroot the phone before you bring it in
In my case my local non corporate Sprint repair center does not care if the phone is rooted. They fixed mine for free even though it's out of warranty, rooted and I have no insurance. Your mileage may vary
Thanks.. how do unroot?

Alright y'all, it's time to upgrade the ol' Hero and turn it into the GSII. Bbbuuuttttt I don't want to necessarily pay the full amount, and I'm not due for a full upgrade yet (not till March... poo). I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not Sprint is still stocking refurb'd Hero's? And, if they are not, I'll need to undo all my rooting and return it to stock. This way I could have something else until my upgrade rolls around... I have to reboot at least 3-4x a day. It currently runs CM7 with Collin ph Battery Tweak. Can anyone lend a hand? Thanks much
Sprint stopped stocking the hero over the summer I don't even think radio shack has it anymore

He's actually more interested to see if Assurion still has refurbed Hero's. Send Hero in on TEP and hope for an upgrade. Anyone send there's in lately?
Also, just reflash CM7 (there's probably been two or three upgraded versions since your last flash) and that might solve some of the need to reboot. But really, just tell J she owes you a phone and make her buy you the Touch!
Sprint htc hero at walmart 48.88 with 2yr.
I know cos i was just there lastnight buying gow3. As for sprint or whoever, idk

lol! Thanks B. She's actually mad that I'm trying to do everything possible from having to buy the damn thing for full price. Is she great or what?! I'll reflash Friday...maybe. Have any plays that day? Maybe we could get together?
And yes, to all others, he's correct that I want to know if they're still refurbing them. I wonder if I could just call and ask?

Don't know why you couldn't call and ask, not like they are going to track ya down and send an assassin for asking.
I work at Sprint. I want to say no, especially since if you were to send in an HTC Evo 4G to Assurion, you'd get a 3D back (100% sure). But I did have one customer with a Hero come in with his refurb Hero with the plastic still on it and everything and have me transfer his stuff to it.

I called Assurion yesterday and they couldn't give me an answer as to what phone I'd get in return. Then again, I'd have to pay $100 to get said mystery phone anyway.
IF you go to phoneclaim.com, and fill in your info, before you submit the claim, it tells you what you will get. But you do have to pay $100 this way. If you take it to the Sprint store, and they have to order a replacement phone, you won't know what you get until the tech pulls it out of the envelope. That's how I went from the Evo 4G, to the Evo 3D. But don't be shocked if you get another Hero.
Just took mine into sprint last week. They replaced it with another hero.
They did give me a couple other phones that I could get instead (for free and without using my upgrade... which I've been eligible for for over a year) but I would have to add the $10 data to my plan.
No thanks, took the hero and it rooted and running heroc before I got home.

That's exactly why I haven't upgraded also! $10 extra! No way. Long live the hero
V's CDMA Hero
It depends on what they have in stock at the moment you order, so it can change by the hour. And on phoneclaim.com you can see what Asurion is offering before you confirm the order. So you can cancel the order if you don't want the phone.
So mine HTC Evo 3D was picked for warranty today by HTC. I needed make the choose, or live with an dust part under mine screen or not have mine new HTC Evo 3D for about 1 a 2 weeks.
The dust part.
So I made choose to let them fix the problem and now I have rehab, I can't check the time unless there is somewhere a clock, I can't check or answer mine mail dure breaks on work and I'm not reachable until the phone returns.
I guess many off you also miss your smartphone if its gone for warranty and it feels like rehab.
If it helps....find a iPhone and smash and burn it.....might get your mind off things bud :/

Lol no the iPhone I would in fact accept as temporary smartphone while mine phone is away for warranty.
But when the store where I bought it wanted to turn it for warranty and give me a temporary phone, I said no, but now I did it directly via HTC and don't have a temporary phone, but I think doing direct via HTC is faster as via the store would be slower.
They would send it to HTC to, but it would probably take longer for me to get it back as it goes via the store.
I understand what you are going through. I am addicted as well and I donĀ“t know what I would do without it, even if it was for a few days. I have a friend that works in a drug-rehab clinic, and he told me that many people can deal with drug whitdrawal but they keep on desperately asking for their smartphone!!!
That video must be fake ha.

It has been wensday since I'm having smartphone rehab. I got the following symptoms: I don't have any grasp off time right now, because the smartphone is also mine clock and to make it even worse there is not even one clock on mine new temporary workplace.
Further more I'm not able to set alarms myself, mine smartphone is also mine alarm clock and I'm not able to listing to music on the go and ofcourse I can't check mine mail during the workday.
And I'm not reachable.
Dude I just went to the store and forgot my phone and almost had a panic attack so I feel your pain lol

Hey guys, for the past 4 months or so now my headphone jack has been a little funny. Sometimes I go to touch it it goes staticy/stops playing music. Now almost everytime I touch my phone while its plugged in my car it'll stop playing or go staticy as well. Long story short, my jack is messed up and iknow its not the headphones/aux cord. Was wondering if you guys think I should get warranty replacement? Or should I get a brand new device? I do have an upgrade. Im not too thrilled about the phones that are out now not gonna lie. But what would you do in my situation? Thanks

My headphone-jack also got messed up. I repaired this easily myself, it had just the problems you're describing.
I took a Q-tip and cut it to the right size to fit in the headphone-jack WITHOUT it loosing all of the cotton in there.
Then i messed around with it until it came out with a huge piece of dust.
I've had to do this twice to get my jack working.
One alternative would be to take some tweesers and pick the dust out with it.
And no, i wasn't able to see any dust in my 3.5mm jack. Try it, it's for free and it worked for me.
I had a similar issue where my headphone jack just died completely. Tried to clean it out but it still wouldn't work. Finally called and had a replacement phone sent to me since I'm in the same boat as you and waiting for a newer qwerty phone to come out and didn't want to re-sign with a D4 for 2 years seeing as that phone is getting a bit old itself.
Unfortunately, almost 2 months in and the headphone jack died again. I'll have to try calling for ANOTHER replacement. Hopefully they don't send you one that dies as fast as mine. I know that occasionally if you have the same problems over and over with a particular phone they might send you a different one with your same contract terms. Just make sure you stay nice and friendly with the rep Good luck and let us know how it works out.

So my phone is pretty ****ed up, and if I can't fix it I am just gonna have to break it physically and take advantage of the insurance I got on this phone.
My question is, since the LG REVO is pretty old now a days, and they don't even sell it at verizon anymore, at least not online or at any of the stores in my area, and the lady I talked to on the phone from verizon said they don't sell em anymore. But what I was wondering and didn't ask her, was if my phone breaks and I claim the insurance for a replacement phone, and since they don't have my phone anymore, what will they do? Will they go backwards and give me a ****tier phone or will they be cool and give me the next step up. Either way I assume it will be a refurbished phone but I was just curious what kind of phone they might give me.
Any thoughts?

If your phone is messed up and your still under contract they may still send you a replacement at no cost to you... So call them first to try to warranty it out instead of paying for the insurance replacement.... But that's my thoughts on it.... Either way they probably going to send you another Revo
Sent from my Broken Out 2.1 VS910 4G powered by Mt using xda app-developers app
Yeah, most likely it'll be a refurb Revo, though you might be able to say, "look, I had trouble with it before it physically broke, can I get something else?" And they might say yes. Some have gotten Razrs that way,one got a Droid 4, someone even got a Gnex. More likely they'll offer something like a Spectrum. I'd be stunned if they tried to give you something inferior to the Revo.
"Inferior to a Revo"? You mean like a 5" chunk of 2x4 with icons and buttons drawn on it with a Sharpie?
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda premium
In all seriousness, while my time with the revo wasn't bad, it'd be hard for them to come up with an inferior replacement now that phones have come so far. I mean they'd have to go back to something that doesn't have 4g for one thing...not gonna happen.
