I know that Angrybirds is supposed to required OpenGL ES 2.0 which is only supported on Armv7 CPUs hence not the Hero. This is causing the rendering issue on the Hero whereby foreground blocks are displayed as white.
Has anyone had any success with this game on certain Roms?
My experience:
Floyo 1.0.1 Plays ok, lags a bit, render issue
Floyo 1.1.8 Plays ok, lags a bit on some levels, render issue
i 'm using froyodvillain 1.5.0 ... It works great However sometimes it glitches but when i use task killer or similar it works fine even much smoother

I get the exact same problem, and was waiting to see if I was alone... I can't find any solution on t'internet... I play it as a normal game but have got to a level where it makes the game unplayable. I'll upload some screenshots in a minute.

Btw i am using FroydVillain 1.5.0
I thought it was due to it all needing to be scaled down because the game only includes images for hdpi devices (on the version I had anyway )
I guess that relates to the OpenGL ES 2.0 problem. Although someone has posted the new Elelinux RC1 Froyo runs it without any problems... might try flashing this today and testing.

I heard it hangs when your cpu is oced to over 691. I just changed it to 652 and it has run fine without any freezes for 3 levels. We'll see how long it lasts.
Still nothing on this then guys? I'm sure I'm not the only one to want to say this but we want this BADLY!

I tried OCing over 691 with the BFS flykernel and the 176MHz for screen off. This seemed to be an issue even at 672MHz. As soon as I went back to 352 lowest clock it seemed to sort this lag issue. Anyone care to back this up?
ill check and post. Though still nothing on the rendering part, thats the only part that still bugs me like mad
EDIT: With min above 172, its indeed less laggy, but not like much, Running CM RC1
I gotta say it's bad how bad the performance of most android phones is with games. I've got a completly stock 1st Gen iPod touch which is 2 days shy of being 3 years old and it runs Angry Birds like a dream. My hero has the bollocks overclocked off it, compcache, JIT, autokiller and it is still lags after I fire the bird and the landscape doesn't even render so I hasn't go to cope with that. My mates nexus one is better, but not a smooth as the iPod, which is bad considering how old that thing is now.
I hope the gaming experience on Android has improved massively by the time my contract is up (April 2011) or I could be defecting for an iPhone 5... (let's face it, there will be one)
Yea I get what you mean, a friend of mine has an Ipod Touch and it runs like awesome, and when he showed me the unrealengine consept app, i was like OMG, but OpenGL of the hero is crap, they say.

Not to mention the fact that the code for angry birds on Android has been bagged to high hell and back. Not just our hardware being the issue, a lot of developers aren't doing the job on Android as phone hardware differs unlike the iPhone and this seems to be a falling point for most.

Yeah don't get me wrong I love Android, but at the end of the day if the developers aren't providing the same quality as they are elsewhere, it makes the platform very limited. I hope Gingerbread and the latest sales figures goes someway to convincing developers to put more stock in the Android platform otherwise it could start to go the way of symbian
The lag isn't that bad on my phone running VR12 and FlyKernal, but I do have the same render issue others have mentioned.
I just assumed it was a ****ty port of the game until I spotted this thread
I find that Cronos Froyo 1.5.1 OC'd to 710 Mhz using cronos governor is fine just lags once in a while one the bird hits something but it isn't that often... but the rendering issue still exists which sucks.
Same on CM6.1 with FlyKernel 11c 576-352 no BFS. lags occesionaly when bird hits the target.

How smooth is the scrolling on the Diamond ?
Is the touchscreen usable ?

but look at the difference of the first three images (other devices) between the diamond. In the latter the graphics look better. How do you explain then?
Just tested it, it is definitely accelerated, the graphics are quite good actually, and it is very smooth. Using the udK R3 ROM, it is very smooth.

I have NFS undercover aswell and yes it's definitely hardware accelerated on the Diamond and it runs supersmooth!!
Btw. People reports that this game runs like crap on the Dell Axim X51v with it's 624 MHz Intel XScale CPU
In Need For Speed do you control the car by accelerometer or somehow else?
I just got this game off of the sprint store. It's hardware accelerated alright. It runs at similar graphics and frame rate of a nintendo DS game. It's fun. you control it with on-screen buttons.
I use the hardware buttons in landscape mode for more flexibility (to drift curve and press simultaneously)

I assume without the driver, you would have 1-2 fps in the quality displayed when running accelerated NFS.
Nope, I have completely removed the ati driver a while ago and now have only the htc d3dm driver and it runs extremely great... Also my registry points to the htc driver so I guess it ain't that bad after all...
I also have this game and it works really well. The on screen keys work well for this game also. Definitely worth getting.

That's what you get when you code to a specific architecture rather than to standards. Making corporations to even _try_ to follow that standards is an even more dantic task, so i find your bashing of the axim *g* very annoying. remember, Stuntcar Extreme which is fluid on the axim, runs at 3 frames per second on the diamond. see what i mean?
Am I the only one that can smell the bullshot. Aftet all the rumours, I thoght I'd take the plunge. Initial impressions eere that I must've got a QVGA software accelerated version. Turns out that all the screenshots corroborate the bs attempt by EA. EA has basically started a contract with MS to provide ots games for the WM platform (wonder if Apple needed a contract with EA.) but basically EA has spat in MS' face. Just look at what the game is like accelrrated on the iPhail on youtube... and cry.
how do you guys play this game? is there a way to activate an on-screen controller? i keep pressing the other keys (home, call, end, back) while trying to press left and right...

Attached screen shot.
Thought id check this out just to see what happens. It actually does appear to overclock and make real changes phone seems much snappier like it was with eclair and my voodoo over clock kernel then i thought i perform a quadrant. Some serious increases in framerates after setting overclock to 1.3 gigaouches. And has a much higher score, seems to transfer to real world performance.
Here is a before and after screen shot one at stock 1 gighertz voodoo
The next at 1.3 gigeherts voodoo. Both superclean 2.9.2 ec10 kernel.
I also added a widget to my sccreen to see if it really does say its at 1.3 gigaherts and it does. Phone seems stable and not acting weird at all. Will probably keep using

What makes you cautious? Before any hardware gets messed up the phone will lock up and/or reboot then you'll be at stock speeds again. Although I haven't had any issues.
Wow. Real noticeable difference here. easy to use. Tried the 1.3 but the phone would freeze. 1.25 did thee trick for me. It sets back to default after every boot too which is pretty cool.

Why? Nothing to be scared of. I can vouch it works well my friend and not only is it zippy (on whatever setting u have it on), it also resets to default after each boot. No worries!
I know quadrents are so so and not accurate on performance, but I get higher readings on 1.5 rather than 2.0. Always score in 1900s on 1.5 and 1600 on 2.0.
actually don't like this feature...

title says it all I noticed a nice difference in real world performance as well as every type of quadrant-like program you could use to score your speed but I wish that it would start on boot so if I need to restart my phone for whatever reason I don't have to go back in and reset everything.. really really want auto boot for this.

Haha, you have proven to me time and time again to never believe screenshots of YOUR Quadrant scores! lol. J/k. I am going to check this out, hopefully with the same success as the rest of you.
So I've been experimenting with CM7, the tablet tweaks and all that... but I was beginning to get fed up with it all, including my nigh-addiction to tweaking everything until it was almost-perfect, breaking it then starting all over. So I went back to my daily driver, good ol' Honeycomb V4 2nd Edition and threw Dalingrin's latest kernel on there, then popped off a quadrant just to see what was up...

So, yeah. I'm ridiculously excited for whatever the day we get actual Honeycomb source code.
Viva la Nook Color.
I'm currently running the latest phiremod and I've been getting scores between1700 and 1900 so its not just Honeycomb getting those high scores. I was close to selling this and getting something else but this latest RC4 changed my mind.
I think quadrant just spits out random numbers. My nook breaks 2k and my phone hits lik 1.7k. I run them at the same time, watch my phone blow through all the processor and io tests before my nook, then watch it triple the fps of my nook on the graphics tests, but then the nook gets a higher score? Not to mention the hardware in my phone (except for the screen) is superior in every way to my nook. This is repeatable. Quadrant is not great imho.
But i still think my nook is boss :-D
See, a lot of people talk about how Uunreliable Quadrant is as a benchmark, but among all my Andrid experience ive found it to be really accurate at portraying how well my devices are running! At least between my Nook Color, Droid X and OG Droid.
I'm not saying that this is a ridiculus Quadrant, not in comparison to CM7 or a phone or anything... I just think 1700 is pretty damn good for what's only supposed to be a PREVIEW of honeycomb. I think Honeycomb is great; like i said, i use the Preview as my daily driver despite its inherent flaws. What I've managed to achieve merely says to me that someday, when we have the Honeycomb source, things are going to be beastly on this OS.
I like that idea.
I am amazed that people still use the Honeycomb SDK port. I mean its neat but I couldn't use it as a daily driver.
In terms of Quadrant, it has known issues with Gingerbread causing it to score lower than it should. In addition, the ease that you can spoof the score shows that it isn't the most reliable benchmark.
That said, I can't wait for Ice Cream source to drop.
so is the HC worth useing daily? I'm currently using froyo but if I can find something I can use this class 10 SD card on as a daily I'd switch.

just installed Honeycomb V4 2nd Edition on my nook, what other updates or tings should I update if there are any out there?
Thanks
Yeah, I'm shocked at myself really! Especially considering how much of a perfectionist I am when it comes to GUI smoothness; I've almost switched to WP7 countless times purely because of how smooth Metro UI is.
I think one of the advantages of the Honeycomb Preview is that I CAN'T tweak it any further. It's static, therefore I can focus on actually using it rather than trying to tweak it all the time. Plus, when applications do actually run they run very well. And Honeycomb is beautiful even when jittery. Matias Duarte should win awards. I'm glad we took him from Palm.
As to what you should do? You should hunt down Dalingrin's 1100MHz OC kernel, and then that's about all you can do as far as I can tell. Enjoy the Honeycomb Preview.
I've been using Deeper-Blue's original SDCard HCv4 as my daily driver for about a month ... minimal bugs, works great!
Tried HC v4 2nd on SDCard instead of eMMC ... got a lot of force closes, esp. with the google browser.
Also tried CM7 RC4 with Mad-Murdock's tablet tweaks ... almost makes me want to switch, esp. with great video support ... but I like the tablet email and other HC features too much

The linpack mflops looks great. I get 11 on a tweaked out 2.6.29 @800mhz
The quadrant isn't amazing but I think its at least an improvement over the stock 2.6.29 kernel. I get 1800-1900 running my latest test kernel @ 800mhz on Gingerbread(quadrant typically scores less in Gingerbread than Froyo unlike other benchmarks)
Looks like 2.6.32 has some potential.
Holy crap....
This is going to be great once we get kernel source and can undervolt/overlcock this sucka
Performance in general is pretty impressive. I dont know how they managed but at 800MHZ it feels just as smooth as CM7 at 1100. I am REALLY looking forward to getting this overclocked.
Flash is smoother for me in 1.2 than its ever been with any rom regardless of clock speed.

This is what I've been saying. Unfortunately, the flash B&N uses is worse on videos that are not optimized for mobile. But it performs great on those videos that are for mobile. "Mobile" videos only have 40% CPU usage @ 600mhz. Thats pretty impressive for flash, just wish it applied to all videos.

I have found the exact opposite to be true. I go to a site that has videos not optimized for mobile and on CM7 they are simply not watchable. With the 1.2 flash its not perfect but certainly better than it is in CM7. Which is surprising because when im on CM7 i run 1100MHZ compared to the 800 with the 1.2 flash.

I don't know what's going on with your device, but I haven't noticed any lagging during game-play so far.
if 10-20fps is enough for you, good.. for me its uncomfortable and unplayable.
just check youtube videos from SGS3 or other devices, and compare speed/smoothness with O4X, you will be surprised how slow it is on O4X, and how fast it is on SGS3 or others.
30+fps here, really smooth.

That's what mine feels like as well. I would notice if a game was lagging at 10-20fps, and NFS:MW certainly doesn't on mine. What else is ch3's phone doing at the same time?
Confirmed working smooth on my O4X. Graphics for some reasons aren't that good on my S3. Guess I should thank my Tegra3 for that! Best racing game i've played on a mobile device so far!
Oh and I love the LWP it comes with. Pure Awesomeness! I have this game on all my devices, TF300, O4X and my S3.
i've lags on start of the race and then it's smooth, just wtf..
hope that's because the 1st version and after update it'll be better

Have you tried changing the kernel gov to performance? Stock is at Interactive i believe. I usually switch to Performance mode when playing games.
Off topic;
Asphault 7 got an update last night. lag is gone during race, but still on menus. Anyway, very enjoyable right now....finally. thought i had given 10 bucks away

The game does not lag, it doesnt feel like a lag, but rather a slow motions feeling. if you count 10 seconds on your watch and 10 seconds in game you will find that the game is slower. Its the same issue HTC one X users are facing.
Its a problem with tegra3. Even nexus 7 are having the same problem.

yes, maybe i was wrong when told about big lags, but game is f*ng slow... if you see at second counter, you can see that one second in game is passing like 3-4 seconds in life
yeah the slow ness of the game hope there an update soon
nyanyanyanyanyanyanyanyanyanyanyan
2D GPU Rendering on/off - full factory reset, unroot.. nothing... it's just slow and unplayable.

ok, installed SetCPU and set scaling to performance... a little improvement in Asphalt 7, seems more or less smooth now, still no changes in NFS - its very slow.
P.S.
My friend have here old good Galaxy Neuxus - installed Asphalt7 and NFS on his phone, launched both games on his GNex and my O4X... if compare, GNex is 100500 times smoother in these games.... what a dissapointment..

es mine is the version from Play, 1.03. the game menu is still laggy but it doesnt lag anymore on race, witch is what matters. there is only very few lag on race, but totally playable.
I dont need setCPUfor playing Asphalt 7 because the device should set the cpu cores to work on performance automaticly, on demand.
NFS is NOT optimized for Tegra3 yet, thats why is "slow". We have to wait for a fix.
lags allot..gameloft please fix it..works like a charm ony brother's s3..no lag at all..
