So my captivate was hooked up to my car charger. I took it off the charger (only on for 10min) and was playing around online when I noticed sparks at the top of the screen inside the screen. It was sparking around like it was moving inside the screen. I turned it off immediately via battery. I turned the phone back on and could see the screen was burned. I called ATT and as I was pushing buttons through their menu I noticed the sparks were happening again. Then a line formed from the top (sparks) to the bottom of the screen. Then it flickered and was off. The screen wont turn on at all but the sounds. ATT is sending me a new unit battery and all.
I flashed Darky's v3 today.
QUestion
1. Has anyone experienced this?
2. Could it be ROM related?
Thanks!!
Souns like it was the phone. Nope that is the first I've heard of this.
Are you using the proper car charger (voltage wise)?

Yeah, I was using the car charger from AT&T.

Does anyone else have a problem with the car dock randomly disabling and playing on regular speaker mode? Almost every time I dock it the phone will stop and using the navigation on it I need the loud dock speaker not the regular phones speaker. The phone still shows the orange light so it seems to still be connected to the power. I thought bumps may cause the plug to get lose and disconnect but since the orange light is on I don't think its that plus reconnecting it sometimes doesn't help. Any ideas? I'm going to use it for a 8 hour drive so I hope someone helps!!

Mine seems to goof up if I leave wifi on. Try turning off wifi. That seems to work for me. Sometimes if I drive past a house or whatever that has wifi my phone picks it up and it seems to goon up my car dock connection. Hope this helps

my wifi automatic turns off when i leave my remembered locations so i know its not on. its so annoying to worry about the gps/phone/navigation when getting turn by turn directions. this is because even though the phone has been connected and the light stays on when returning from the long drive the and undocked the phone i found the phone very low on battery. i dont understand why if i always checked the light to make sure its not being disconnected since i thought that would mean its not using the battery to power it. this time i am going to try like 4 apps that say they will keep it in dock mode bluetooth on so we will see. i wish i didnt have to load all these apps and just knew which works but i cant risk this happening in a big busy city.

This happens to me too, every once in a while. What I do is unplug the dock from the power, plug it back in, insert my N1 into the dock, go into settings and repair the dock. Works after that.

will keep this in mind. i noticed another problem. i lowered the audio when playing pandora internet radio but i cannot put it back to loud! ive tried audiomanager and nothing. used navigation to turn it up but it says its maxed already yet both are very low. its so odd that i can lower the audio but not make it louder. ive now lowered it to like 1 bar and cant hear nothing unless totally silent in the car. ive even downloaded some apps to max the dock audio but i dont think they worked. time to reinstall cm i guess.

Did you try the volume buttons on the dock?

Oops, just noticed a typo. My sentence should read like this: "This happens to me too, every once in a while. What I do is unplug the dock from the power, plug it back in, insert my N1 into the dock, go into settings and re-pair the dock (via Bluetooth). Works after that.

yea thahts the problem i cant make the volume higher just lower and no way i can get to the phones buttons without undocking the phone. hmmm i wonder if the volume is in the actual dock and a unplug will restore it.
Have had this problem (random bluetooth disconnects) with the car dock since, I think, 2.2.1 came along. Reseting the car dock (power off and on) sometimes resolves the issue. Prior to 2.2.1 I don't think this problem existed. Anyone confirm that ?
*Update* Nexus One died totally today and is being collected by HTC UK tomorrow. That might explain some of the more bizarre behaviour I have been seeing.
ive had the problem on 2.1 but it wasnt a big deal for around town. found it a pain in unknown cities especially noisy highways using the stock speaker on the phone. i got home today from the trip i must take every 6 months and stayed parked trying to figure it out. 1st thing i had to do was up the volume. i found a nice app called a2dp volume that helped restore max volume on the actual car dock. at that exact moment it was docked but switched back to speaker kicking off all car dock apps like navigation and car mode. i just left it in the dock trying not to tiggle anything to reactate it and checked the settings-wireless and bluetooth. under bluetooth settings way at the bottom in paired devices i saw the car dock nexus one. it said it was paired but not connected. i held down the item and clicked connect (also if clicking the item gives you like 3 checkmarks 2 checked but 1st box is unchecked named Connect) and that is how i fix it now. really annoying to navigate through all that just to reconnect the bluetooth to the device. looking for a app that will help with this. if anyone finds it please reply!
When you say your wifi turns off, does it turn itself back on when you go back to you remembered networks? If so disable wifi completely.

i have a app called y5 that completely turns off the wifi when away from the remembered area. with that app, i cannot turn on/off the wifi because the app will not allow changes unless i turn off that app.
Hi, I recently was using my nexus one and the green trackball light just automatically turned on (solid color not flashing). I cannot get it to turn of no matter what I do. I have already tried wiping, reflashing, battery pull, and hard reset. The green light turns on immediately after powering on the device. Any help is much appreciated.

Very strange I've herd of a red light that wouldn't turn out it's sign of a hardware problem (water damage I think) but never a green one
What were you doing when it went on??
I have also heard of this problem (or at least I vaguely remember something like this). On the one I remember, it turns out that some piece got bent and came into contact with something from the trackball. It required taking the phone apart to remedy it.
I had a similar thing a few times: After confirming green notification light (by GoSMS), it has been glowing further at very low brightness. It only went off when disabling TB Notification in setup menu.
Last night the green light started flickering while charging, but this morning it was solid green again... it really is annoying and is a battery drain.

I am going to assume you have cm7 or cm something. If you go into the trackball notification menu when you can choose color and what not, select the application in where you picked green. Then hit "flash test" and hit "ok" when the light is off.
It got stuck for me too and this is how I fixed it.
Paintball, did you fix this? Mine also displays green 24x7 and causes serious battery drain. My daughter drooled quite a bit on the dock charging connectors, so I suspect something is shorted, but it's also been dropped (same person responsible for the drooling), so something could be bent as well. FWIW, I have no trackball alerts set.
Stuck in the green as well...
I have the exact same problem! In this case my girlfriend drowned the phone with lemon gatorade on her beach purse our last vacation a week ago, so I believe that's the problem: something is wrong inside the N1. I'm going to a phone repair shop see what can be done.

Hey all,
my phone got a bit wet, and then the screen started to act weird, it went all blue, and blanked. Then i pulled the battery out. Now the screen wont turn on. I can hear the starting sounds and screen sounds so touch screen is working, but i the screen is all black..
I screwed the whole phone open and gave it time to dry, but it didnt help.
Is there any way to put it to tv out mode without using the screen?
And I had MIUI rom on it when it stopped working, but i flashed stock android 2.3.4 on it.
So, any ideas? Would be much appreciated=)

Says it all really, makes life a bit difficult! Not much of a reply but liquid & electronic equipment dont really mix.
The plug of the screen is securely buttoned ?
See it is true that all will end because of water.

My screen goes black when I open the keyboard. After I close it, it stays black and I have to take the battery out.
The light behind the buttons on the screen still comes on, and it seems like the blacklight behind the screen comes on. I tested it and if I recieve a call while it's doing this, the phone rings and the backlight lights up, but I cant answer because the screen stays black.
This is driving me crazy...
It's doing this on fresh stock rom and a fresh install of minimoto 1.7
Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?
This happened to mt xt862. It was a bad or loose flex cable. Had it replaced and the problem was solved.
Sent from my XT862 using xda app-developers app
I thought it was my ROM at first too, but it is the flex cable going out. It gets worse over time until you can't use the touchscreen at all or the backlight doesn't turn on. When I opened my D3 up, there was a clean cut halfway across the cable.
I recommend mobiledefenders[dot]com > Droid 3 > Flex Cable
Here's the disassembly video I used:

You will need a Torx 5 and Torx 3 (i used Torx 4 without issue)
Sorry for the lack of clickable links, I haven't met XDA's min post requirements yet
So I recently cracked the screen on my HTC One m7. I bought a replacement screen and front housing. The screen was so far beyond repair that I couldn't shut off the phone prior to starting the replacement. I tried waiting for the phone to die but after two days I became impatient and did it anyway (essentially the phone lost power when I disconnected the battery). After transferring all parts into the new housing and being what I though as diligent putting all parts and connections back in their place, tried to power the phone back on. all that happens is that the back and home buttons flash and then I hear what sounds like the audio for when the phone powers on. The screen stays black and then phone doesn't technically turn on. I know this because I have missed messages and the green led light would be flashing if it was. Therefore, at this point I'm not certain that the new screen works or if I've connected it right. I've tried the numerous boot tricks with the volume buttons, nadda. I have had the phone on a charger for a full day and the same problems. (Disclaimer: I don't have the original charger, but I have been using this one for a long time). I do see the red charging led if I wiggle the charger in the input, but also just recently I saw a green led when doing this, which when the phone was working was a sign that it was fully charged. If anyone has a solution to my problem that would be great. I'm also interested on what's wrong, why this is happening, what might have caused this behavior? What do the flashing home and back buttons mean?
Howdy,
I've had the same problem, but my phone was shutdown allready. When I replaced the front screen, the phone won't boot. I would like to know if its anyway to get the files from sdcard down?
Thanks for the support!
