Hello, I am looking for some help if possible, i've tried a lot of other web sites with no luck and there are a lot of bright people here, so here goes. I have a hp dv9810us laptop which came with vista after upgrading to 7 I lost my dvd writer, I tried deleting upper and lower filters and no luck, tried uninstalling, also tried reformatting hard drive and reinstall windows and still nothing, tried the microsoft fix with no luck, I also bought another dvd writer with same results. The writer is not showing in the bios either. The model of the writer is GSA-T20L Super Multi Dvd Rewriter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,
Just wondering if any of you have a solution to my small problem.
My laptop dvd-rw always stops reading disk after a while and the only solution I have is to reformat if I desperately need to read a cd. which is a pain.
When I look in bios it is detected and also I see it in my computer but it doesn’t read any cd's.
Thanks in advance,
Jason
Sorry if this has been covered - I searched and googled with no success.
When I try to connect my Diamond as a USB disk drive it causes windows explorer to hang (Win XP SP2) and it only unfreezes when the USB is unplugged.
This happened with 2 different diamonds (I sent the first one back because of another problem) with both the stock Orange UK ROM and Dutty's 1.8 ROM. It seems to work fine on some other PCs. I would say it was a PC issue but it's not an isolated case - I've seen it happen with a friend's Diamond too, on his work laptop.
Edit: I should mention, it sometimes unfreezes and starts working if left connected for several minutes!
Anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks,
Dave
My XP SP2 does NOT have this problem...

Neither does mine.
Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't think it was an issue that would affect all computers, however I have personally witnessed it with 3 different Diamonds and 2 different PCs so I'm guessing somebody else must know about it.
I don't want to reinstall XP with no idea whether it will help so I guess my next step is to see if any other USB devices could be affecting it.
I think I've resolved it
I had to unplug my WD external HDD. This is a slight pain because it contains all of the media that I want to copy on to the Diamond!
Just got a G1 off of evilbay.
When I connect it to the PC with the usb lead XP says 'device not recognised'.
Any idea whats going wrong and how to fix it?
which winxp version are you using? i never managed to connect my g1 to xp64...
you might need to manually install the usb drivers which come with the android sdk
XP32, SP3.
Got a link for the drivers?
That's a GOOD thing.... protect a good phone from a HORRIBLE virus.
Try linux. No weird drivers needed and no risk of damage.
Can't go on to linux full time, it doesn't support the games I play.
And the XP emulators are not a solution either, unless they have finally started to support 3D graphics?
If that is the only solution maybe I should have gone for a blackberry after all.
Will it work with the Ubuntu live CD?
Or the run from USB drive under XP version?
Make sure you have a good, thick USB cable. My G1 doesn't want to work with the first two USB cables I tried.
That was the first thing I thought of
Tried all 7 of mine, all react the same.
Also tried the project machine, initially found it, then after about 10 seconds came up with the unrecognised device
Are you trying to mount the SD card or use adb/fastboot?
Am trying to get to the SD card.
Found my microSD card reader so can copy stuff over that way now.
Would be nice to connect properly tho.
It's away for a week now, being fixed and rooted
It is my humble opinion that my local phone guy is a genius (and well into android).

Livecd is fine.
Dualboot is better.
Clear the virus is best.
Games? Games are for kids. Hacking is more fun.
Excuse the retards, they run rampant around these parts
Find attached all the drivers you will need, any further help just ask me
And here is a link to get the sdk if you want it...

Hi,
I've had my SGS for 3 months roughly. In that time I've had varying connectivity via the usb cable to the pc. The reason I post here is I've scouted around forums including this one for about a month trying various things and.. well with no success.
On my Home PC which is Windows 7 64 bit Home premium, I get Unknown device. With or with out the drivers installed so it's connecting but not recognising the device, I've tried re-installing the drivers numerous times, tried cleaning the usb cable, various USB ports (front and back) with no luck. I've cleaned the registrys relating to Samsung drivers and I've tried to tweak the .inf files all with no prevail. I've tried everything apart from a re-format (Which I am trying to avoid but is looking likely).
On my Work PC, Windows 7 Professional 32bit, I get perfect connectivity in Mass Storage, Kies, Media and Debugging mode, but again I get 'Device not recognised' when I plug it in download mode, Basically I can't flash it again I've tried everything I can think of to try and get it to realise it's the same device in download mode but with no prevail (Formatting the pc is not an option here)
Similarly I have a Machine running Windows Vista 32 bit at home and I get the same results as my Work PC.
I really want to get a Custom ROM and Gingerbread on my SGS (Can't upgrade through kies because, well it's kies and its not recognising that I am on froyo and thinks I am up to date).
If anyone has any tips or ideas I would really appreciate the help
Benn
i am also having the same problem i am using windows xp sp3 32 bit.i tried several methods windows not recognizing the galaxy s in download mode.
Any method to solve this problem.
Same here but I don't get a connection anywhere. I tried it on 3 different PC's with 2 different USB-cables, with drivers and without. All I get is unknown device in any mode (download, mass storage, kies, media).
Meanwhile I did a factory reset on my phone but it's still not working.
Can anyone help?
Okay, so now I've tested it on two fellow work colleagues computers running XP, again same results as my work pc and my vista rig, connects fine for mass storage and Kies but not recognising the device in download mode, its not returning any details about the device, not manufacturer id, no hardware id..
I am going to try see if I can get a connection in Ubuntu tonight, I'll post my results, failing that I might take a look inside to see if there is any damage near the micro usb port on my phone.
If I find out how to fix it I'll be sure to post it
I know it sounds simple but a guy recently took of back cover, 6 screws, and had a check on the pins, gave them a very careful tweak and bingo, also another found crack in soldering, just something to check, hope it helps

Yeah, that is what I was going to check for. Thanks for the hint
I will post back with results later.

Yesterday I went to a friend cuz his dad repairs watches so he has these ultra tight magnifying glasses. He had a look at the USB-port and saw that everything has been oxidated. And since the USB-port isn't just screwed or connected (else I could easily replace it) I'll send it to the responsible reapir shop. Hope they can handle it :/
Don't try to play with the internal of the phone. Everybody know that this issue is known by more people. It depends mostly on your firmware.
just to give you a little feedback cuz i think some are interested:
As said I've send my Galaxy S to the repair shop and they told me that there's a water damage which might be cuz I've been walking trough the rain and have been wet all over.
If there's a water damage Samsung does not give a guarantee for that. Also the repair shop told me that there's only one way to repair it which would be to replace everything inside.. and for that money I prefer to buy a new phone so I just ordered the Nexus S.
Does anyone know what I can do with my "old" damaged Galaxy S?
You can sell your 'old' and 'broken' galaxyS, add the money for the Nexus and invest them in a Galaxy S2.
And if someone still has problems with their usb connection they could try reinstalling the latest drives from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
Hi there,
I recently backed up my films and images to my computer.
When I looked at my films that I had shot they all appeared corrupt. My first assumption was that they had not transferred across properly via the AirDroid interface. I then tried a USB connection with the same results. Next I bought a new SSD and did a small 10 second test film.
I removed the SSD and pluged it directly into the computer. Sadly its the same result.
I am using an IMac with OS 10.6.8.
The movies just have a massive green screen covering them and don't run. In fact the make the OS do a soft reboot of the desktop!
I have not seen any posts regarding any issues with transferring movies. Is it a Mac thing? I will have to get hold of a PC next - or try VMware.
I will also be contacting LG next.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted!
