Well iam on Sky Broadband so its up to 20mb, but you might think we are paying £10 a month. No, its combined with sky tv and sky talk so its free.
What i want to know is, does anyone else have this? slow web browsing and fast download?
And what is your highest bittorrent speed?

Mines is slower too

Grr... Paying for 8Mp/s
The highest i've ever got from a torrent is about 60kb/s where as MU etc. 110 kb/s
What speeds to you all get from either of these?

i think broadband in england must really suck then!

We're paying for like, 2.5MB/s, but my speeds are in the kB's. Like .5MB/s.

Buenas noches

must be just something with the phone line im paying for 20mb with talktalk works pretty smooth had downloads speeds upto 1mb/sec in torrents
this just happened after a hell of alot of complaining of disconections and slow speeds

Carphonewharehouse? Since when have they been an ISP
Lucky though 8mps
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App

Do they drop your broadband when you take it in for repair?

Do remember most companies say speeds of upto 8mb/s for example, but thats not the download speed. You can atleast half that to get your max download speed.. Its only is they state 8mb/s download that you should expect that sort of speed.
Not to mention that they lie about it.
In my old house I was paying for 8mb/s, and to be fair I did get roughly that...
But where I live now.....
1 bar of 3g signal is faster than my internet.
The shocking thing is, my grandmother gets 50mb/s!!!

Where abouts in north wales?
Llandudno? my uncle gets 150kbps torrent speed there now. He's on talktalk

I've been getting the problem the OP mentioned for the last 3 days.
Sync speed and bRAS profile normal, but crappy speeds (3800 sync, 3000 profile).
Speedtests that come back between 500 and 1000.
BT's own speedtester comes back 500-1000.
Youtube is unwatchable because of all the buffering and downloads are stop/start all the time.
HOWEVER...
Torrents and Usenet are plugging along at max line speed!
Go figure!
I'm in communication with my ISP and they're aware of a pattern of normal sync but slow web speeds up and down the country. They reckon it might be tied in with the BT MSO from the middle of the week in Edinburgh. Around about the time that BT said they got people back online was when the speeds started screwing up. They suggest that maybe BT have bypassed Edinburgh and are using redundant backhaul to shunt off traffic to other nodes (Manchester, Sheffield etc). The upshot is that those nodes suffer a degradation of service for all connected to them on 20CN products (like me).
Or I could have a unique problem on my line that BT don't consider a fault because my Usenet is full speed!
As for N.Wales... unless you're in the middle of a town, good luck with getting decent speeds.

UK doesn't really have broadband.
Outside a few major city centres UK doesn't have broadband as most developed countries understand it. I will just give a few facts but avoid drawing conclusions or expressing opinions so as to avoid libelling BT: A few years ago I left central London to live in the countryside. Went from 20 MB cable to 1.5 MB ADSL. Was with O2 Access because my local exchange was still under the monopoly control of BT and O2 could not (would not?) install broadband equipment in the BT exchange even though the Gov claims it should be "Unbundled". My speeds went down in steps of approx 128kb until it became a constant 128kb (yes comparable to the old dial-up!). I fought with O2, BT and local Politicians over this because the copper wires did not change nor did my equipment. Finally I gave in and got my MAC number from O2 to change over to BT in the hope that having to fight with only one corporation would be easier. On the day I phoned BT to sign up (The transfer had not happened) my speed went straight up to 1.5 MB. Those are the facts if we had a monopoly comission I am sure they would be interested. You may draw your own conclusions regarding UK Broadband.

nope i got 2.15 mb/ps download and 1.31 mb/ps upload
127 ms in new york
but with the old radio i would get 3mb/s and 2mb/s
I noticed today my 3G seemed a tad slower. My speed tests are maybe 20% slower than usual. I got Tmo in Sacramento.
well, before my 3g connection totally conked (i'm connected, but no data is being transferred at all.... happened after I installed adfree) I was getting terrible data rates, just like yours... I actually got up to 33k ish on the download tho... i'm in the Chicago area. Usually I can get around 1-1.5M in my area.
not to kang your thread, but any chance adfree somehow hosed me? if i turn on wifi, i can connect just fine... so it makes me think adfree was just a coincidence because I would think it would affect my browsing on wifi too.

Same here . I flashed back to the 32.26.00.24u_4.04.00.03_2. Not a problem you wont brick your phone. My speeds were terrible with the new radio. I"m back up in the 900 kbs now . With the new radio I was averaging a 1/3 of that.

New radio actually improved my speeds for ATT
Did it start immediately after you flashed FroYo or sometime afterwards?
I'm also here in Philadelphia on T-Mobile and am having the exact same issue. It began immediately after flashing. I'm quite frustrated at this point.
My N1 is not rooted. I went from stock 2.1 to stock 2.2.
Im also getting slower speeds here in miami. I kept the stock radio but changed from gsm auto prl to wcdma preffered and my data is close to 20 percent quicker according to speedtest.net app. i tried it over and over again on the smae spot and it was consistent. I went back to gsm auto prl and again my data got slower.

My upload speeds are actually fine. Here are my last few speedtest.net results (all are in kbps from the comcast server in philadelphia):
Down/Up
38/1350
26/1205
43/1406
4/1205
21/1467
I was not having any issues until I made the upgrade this morning to Froyo.
I disabled 3G and am downloading around 190kbps.
Do we need to change the radio? Is Tmobile in Philly having 3G issues? I can't keep my phone as is with such a slow data connection.
Im having the same problem. It started right after I flashed froyo with the new radio. Im on tmob in dallas. Is it only people with tmobile that are having this problem?

For Speedtest, switch the server. Don't use the Miami server. It sux and gives really low speeds... I'm in Miami also and I always thought my speed sucked, i switched the server in speed test and i'm getting 1.1Mbps Down and around 800Kbps Up

4G Tether Results: Is Wifi capped? USB is better. Gaming!

Hey well wanted to report my results from last night. Needless to say I am unhappy with "4g" and tethering. Least in VA T-Mobile.
Ok Tablet speedtest.net results.
1.5Mbit DL / 0.5~1.1Mbit UL (Sounds ok not too bad compared to my G1 on 3g which was 400 kbps)
Now here is where it goes to hell.
Wifi Tether then using speedtest.net on my PC
0.5 Mbit DL / 0.2~0.4 Mbit UL Ping 600+ to test server. Lag on video gaming like Team Fortress 2 was horrible... 500~1000ms ping to server.
I said hell with that tried USB tether. CONSIDERABLE performance increase!
1.0 Mbit DL / 0.5 Mbit UL Ping 165 to test server.
Team fortress 2 kept me at about 150~185 ms ping. Which didnt stutter too much, I was able to play smoothly online, Couldnt dogfight close and personal as well since I was a lil lagged behind but it is playable enough to perform respectably. =)
Now this is using the built in android 2.2 tether on the DS7. I do not know if there are better apps or rooted apps that would increase performance of tethering? Anyone know? It seems rather fishy that a wifi tether would drop in bandwitdh SOOOOO much on a high end system setup.
Also another note. USB tethering, does not seem to drain the battery! I had it fully charged and during my entire night of TF2ing, it stayed fully charged! NICE! =)
Test results was from Virginia Beach, VA, connecting to Washington DC speedtest.net
Anyone have some performance or tricks to get better bandwitdh results? =)

I don't understand why the download speed jumps from being slow (for this test just now, it started at around 11, slowly creeping up to 40ish), then jump to incredible speed (jumped to ~400-500), and speedtest.net just randomly decides a number for the download result...
The number is an average, lol. Might be the way that fiber optics work. And I am super mad at Verizon for not offering FIOS in my area yet. I'm stuck with TWC @ 10 down and .5 up.

With close servers, yes. Servers very far, nope; it's just slow.
Other speed tests, like SpeakEasy and DSLReports, do do that also. DSLReports Java tests, however, are more stable (doesn't go up to the said 500ish, but only upto around 100 when it jumps).

What speed are you subscribed to. I don't know much about fios except we don't have it here. If its anything like charter and Comcast do though its probably a speed boost at the beginning of your download. It it is then a speed test that runs past the boost would show it slow back down some.

40down, 30up. When I'm downloading something big off direct connects, it caps out around 5-6MB/s and stays like that until completed download, which is around 40Mb/s, so I do get the full speed, but for speed tests, it jumps like that...
One possibility is that Verizon temporarily allocates more bandwidth to an individual user when the system is operating well below capacity (perhaps during off-peak hours), kinda like Comcast's Powerboost stuff that's advertised all the time. You could try testing during peak times and see what happens.
/not on verizon, wouldn't know for sure.

I think i have heard of them. Is that your only option in Sacramento? I just moved from hollywood and all we could get was time warner. (which was the worst ISP in el paso, tx)

15 megs down/2 megs up
see below
I have service from a cable company called Broadstripe. I'm in a Seattle suburb, but kind of in the boonies, and they are my only cable option... ludicrous, I know.
and, of course, they're awful. I'm paying for their 'most robust' internet option (15 megs down) and have literally never received advertised speeds. even when the tech came out and hooked me up, the first thing I did was a speed test... < 10 megs down at 10:30 am in the middle of the week, when speeds should theoretically be at their peak. have complained many times and received many worthless 'perks'. if I could change to ANYONE else, I would. even comcast, god forbid. I refuse to go DSL or satellite though.
furthermore, every night after around 5PM, the speeds go from less than advertised to barely usable due to traffic.
I just dropped quite a bit of money on a better modem with a built-in router and am hoping that consolidating everything into one package and having a DOCSIS 3.0 modem might make a difference. we'll see. I'm not expecting much and they're already making things difficult with the switch from their p.o.s. provided modem.. which I fully expected.
wouldn't recommend them and hopefully when I move in march I will have some better options.

Google Map random rerouting

Has anyone had Google maps reroute them mid-route without telling them?
I will try to explain what I mean as clear as possible. Sorry for the long post.
Last weekend I went on a trip from Illinois to Kentucky. I have made this trip a few times so I have somewhat of an idea where I'm going but I like to use google maps to remind me where the exits are etc...the exit I wanted, and what maps has always used to direct me to was the Leestown exit (the place I was going was just off of Leestown Rd...Anyway, it wanted me to get off at an exit like 5 miles before there, so I drove on by since I was pretty sure that wasnt the correct exit...then it wanted me to get off at the next exit...I decided to listen to maps this time and took the exit...It ended up taking me way out in the country with basicly 1 lane roads until it finally took me back to Leestown road...Where I should have been in the first place. There was some construction, but no stoppage on the road at all.
Then next time was when I was leaving. I decided I wanted to go from Lexington KY, and go up to Cincinnati, OH, then Indianapolis, then Champaign, Il to get home. That was one of the 3 routes it offered me when I put in my home address to get home. The "faster route" was through Louisville, KY vs Cincinnati, but Louisville had many areas that were under construction and they tend to have worse traffic.
No matter how many times I would tell it to take the route through Cincinnati, it would always default back to Louisville. I finally just told it to take me to Cincinnati vs home...Once I was on my way to Cincinnati, I told it to route me home via Indianapolis, then Champaign IL. using the interstate...That was the route it suggested. It took me to Indianapolis, but then decided to take me off the highway and onto 2 lane highways the rest of the way.
I could not get it to stick to the original route no matter what I tried. Avoidances were all turned off. It was incredibly annoying and ended up wasting a lot of extra time.
Has anyone ever experienced this? I am on Maps V 8.0.0
Green is what I wanted, Red is what Maps kept re-routing to, and blue is what path it ended up taking me.

I have seen some random things but not quite that bad. When I drove a lot for work a TomTom was more reliable than any phone navigation app.
My biggest gripe is that as I'm driving it DOESN'T update the route enough. I see pop-up boxes that say "6 MIN FASTER" if I take a different exit/etc. Uh, why isn't the program telling me to take that route? I find myself constantly looking down at the screen during my morning commute to get there faster. Previously, it would just randomly tell me where to go and re-route -- but with much less information. You're almost there Google... almost!
I had another instance of it happening again on Monday when I drove to St. Louis for work...I was driving from Decatur, Il; So I take I72 west to Springfield, then take I55 South toward STL, then I270 into STL (my destination was right next to the airport)...I was about 9 miles from the 270 exit when it suddenly told me to stay on I55 for another 19 miles which took me right into the heart of STL...which is way south of the airport.
UPDATED OP WITH MAP
Heres a pic of what it did...disregard my poor drawing skills.
I'm definitely having the same problem with Google Maps v 8.1.0. It rerouted on a trip from Vermont to Indiana last week and screwed me up since I wasn't watching for it. Today, on the return trip it has already rerouted to a slower route 3 times on my Note 2. Perhaps Google hired some former Apple Maps programmers on the cheap? It makes the app unreliable and sort of useless.

Kinda glad I'm not the only one. At first I thought it was trying to re-route for traffic or construction, but neither route to STL had any major construction or traffic. It actually took me back via 270...Very fustrating
Same here as well.
Randomly told me to turn round and take a different motorway which would take an hour longer. Also re routed me off the main road to get to my destination via some back roads which would take 40 mins longer :silly:
For me, the strange routing started happening more with this latest update that included the little "5 MIN FASTER" stuff. Is that the case with y'all?

Yep
I drove up and down the east coast the past couple weeks and had GM do this fairly persistently. Luckily I knew where I was going so I called BS on it when it rerouted me a way I knew to be longer. It seems like it isn't aware of all the connections between streets and routes around them. Ironically for the routes that it did route fine, the ETA values were spot on, even accounting for traffic conditions (for 10+ hour drives).
Yes! Same here. You're supposed to be able to deny Google Maps/Navigatoin from rerouting you if you don't want it to.
I don't know why the Moto X doesn't allow this option. It automatically reroutes you based on traffic and it's annoying because sometimes you want to stay on the main road or highway regardless.
Has anyone figured this out yet?
Also, this.
My solution works great http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/google-maps-version-6-14-3-runs-moto-x-t2785516
