Hello,
I read about the froyo rollout and I fired up Kies. It prompted me with an update and I've done it. After that my SGS can't connect to Kies: the app on the mobile keeps restarting and it doesn't stops. The only way I found that lets me connect is to restart the phone, be very quick and connect it very early. That way it will work, otherwise there is no way. I can't browse my files or anything. Is there a way to solve this?
I have the same problem... Most of the time I get the flashing back and forth to the MTP app. Sometimes (very rarely) it connects.
Try clearing your caches. Download Cachemate for root. You need to have root enabled for it to work.
Also search for FileSearcherforKiesFix and look at the guides for that.
At the moment I can't get anything to run but you may get lucky.
Try to remove your sd card and restart

Same issue here on a bell i9000m. I thought i messed up the drivers some how, but im glad to see im not the only one. If you look in device manager, you will notice the mtp driver is not installed properly. Several attempts to manually reinstall driver failed for me.
Win 7 64bit.

Hi.
I am also with Bell on an i9000m and my kies does connect to my device but some things arent working properly.
Example... I check for new firmware (which there isint any yet) and now i get an option to back up my contacts before i flash. I tried this and after about 5 mins it comes bqck saying that there was no response from my device.
This is a bit worrysome for me as i have read some people in europe who were flashing to froyo had the upgrade stop and hang about half way through the process which essentially semi bricked their phone and they had to flash back throuh odin. They said it was like the phone had become "non-responsive".
Anyone else here with a similiar issue as mine? Any advice?
Thanks...

Kies is the worst POS pice of software I have ever tried. I spent 3-4 hours getting Kies to connect to my phone in order to update to Froyo. Installed drivers, unistalled drivers, installed again. Unmounted cards and connected. Unmounted and remounted.
What finally worked for I problem I had with a flashing MTP Application was to delete the contents of the internal SC card.
This only became an issue for me when i used kies to update to jh7. Now everytime I try to connect to kies, my phone not only unmounts both cards, but will not let me remount. i have to reboot the phone just to get the sd's working again. I tried yanking the external and all that did was throw my phone into a borkfest, and that simply makes zero sense. . .

Hi, have been a regular visitor but now I have need to post
I wanted to unroot the phone so I could update on Kies, after the unroot was applied the phone would not boot past the S logo.
So booted into recovery mode and did a factory reset which worked but now I can't log into my google account "Can't establish a reliable data connection to server" is all I seem to get, anyway around this ?
I also cannot get connected to Kies due to MTB USB device drivers not installing and the phone will not show up in my computer.
I have tried all the fixes I have found using Google but none seem to work for either problem, I wish I left her as she was, running really well and looking nice

welcome to the world of Samsung!!
ok guyz i found out the solution. all you need to download microsoft remote desktop connection manager and its started to working again. i hope if someone have same problem as me, can solve it.
solution for me was click ontop left corner of kies, and choose restore/reinstall phone drivers. I highly doubt the suggest fix above.

nah it works for me. i do not know what was the connection between two of them. but i think damn windows cant detect the phone cause of that. you can try also. ..............
but one problem still there. no matter how many times i connect to kies, every time after i disconnect my internet sd and phone storage are unavailable. so i need to go to about phone>usb settings>mass storage mode to fix this every time..................
well you guys want to know what worked for me?
So I heard that the official 2.2 was out, and so just like a lot of you, I tried upgrading my SGS using KIES...
I had firmware 2.1 on my phone and KIES couldn't / wouldn't recognize my SGS... just like the OP, it always stayed on "connecting device please wait bla bla bla" ... so I just went to samfirmware.com or whatever it's called .. and I downloaded the latest firmware 2.2 for my device, which was the I9000XWJPA, and flashed it on my SGS, after that I tried to connect with KIES again, and KIES finally recognized my SGS.. so I flashed the old firmware back onto my SGS(Eclair 2.1) because I wanted to use an official 2.2 firmware, so I was on 2.1 again and I tried to connect my SGS on KIES, and again it got stuck on "connecting device please bla bla bla" ... so I just decided to use the 2.2 firmware I9000XWJPA from samfirmware.com ...
and just now I've tried connecting my SGS on KIES and guess what? KIES recognizes my phone -_-
So long story short:
On firmware 2.1: KIES doesn't recognize my phone
On firmware 2.2: KIES does recognize my phone
all I have to say to that is:
Whatever Samsung!! KIES is one F*[k€d up program you've got there!! I'm not dissatisfied with my SGS or anything, but I do think this will be my last phone from Samsung...
Sigh, I hate Kies, it never works. Just installed it now and my S3 won't connect. Hangs. I rebooted device/phone followed connection settings.. no dice. Phone says connected, but Kies hangs as soon as the phone says connected. It gets unlocked if you hit disconnect on the phone... these guys really can't do software. I miss Nokia software.
Anyways.. uninstalled it.. and now I came across this thread.. should have tried reinstalling the phone drivers.. fudge. Oh well. I'll just do a OTA update of my firmware when the servers are less slammed.
Hello, Im having an issue updating to the latest update for the captivate. I bought mine two weeks ago and its fine and dandy however i'd like the suppose semi gps fix. I installed all the samsung drivers and using Kies Mini. When i connect my phone in Kies mode it shows up how its supposed to tells me there an update (my phone shows JF6 and so does the kies program), but when i try to update it tells me update failed please remove battery and reboot phone then try again. I've tried that, i did have my phone rooted and lagfix installed however i made sure to remove both of those before i even started the update. I also removed the market place fix to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. Does anybody have any clue as to why it keeps failing?
Thank you!
edit: by the way on my phones screen it just says mtp application and with the usb plug picture and it says initializing under it.

Go to Settings > Applications > USB Settings > Ask on connection
Also Go to Applications > Development > Enable USB Debugging
That will get rid of your MTP screen. MTP is for syncing with Windows Media Player or something along those lines.
And finally, don't bother with this update. It DOES NOT fix the GPS like AT&T and Samsung have told us. It's a waste of your time.

I'm trying to upgrade my adroid OS to Froyo. When I connect my Samsung Galaxy S to my laptop running Windows 7, it says installing device drivers. After about 5 seconds it says
Device driver software was not successfully installed
MTP USB Device Failed.
Windows 7 is not recognising the phone, but Windows XP recognises it straight away. Has anyone had this problem previously or have any idea what could be preventing 7 from recognising the phone? Annoying to say the least!
Actually, what i've done was just reset the phone to factory setting n evrything came back to normal..what u have to do is
1. download a backup apps from market, backup evrythg (reset will clear the setting n system only..photo, mp3 and apps folder will remain there in sd..)
2. Disable lagfix (if any)
3. then reset the phone to factory setting.
4. Reboot n u can connect your phone to pc as normal again.
This steps take less then 10 minutes (plus 5minutes to restore evrythg) n much2 better than to search the best way to fix the problem..
The case is,something wrong in our phone..should be one of the listed in our 'googles' or no one knows it..so better take this way,n yes,u are going to upgrade it anyway..lol,no harm!!

If there was an issue with the phone, it wouldn't connect to any PC. The fact that Windows XP recognises is straight-away tells me there is an issue with my PC's OS. I am experiencing an odd situation, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 KB976932 has several updates bundled together 200+MB, 1 of the updates 44BM will not configure error 0x800F8026. I'm hoping someone familiar with the Update log in Windows 7 forum can makes some sense of it and come up with a solution! In the meantime I'll percevere.
I dont know if we have the same problem..mine was another galaxy s can connect to my win7 but the other cannot..i used all the methods found in google to solve the problem in my phone..but none of them helping..fed up with that, so i reset my phone..problemo solved
Anyway, hope someone knows can tell it here..

The problem or problems lie with my laptops OS. I did a factory setting restore on my phone, but still getting the error.
I realize that this is a common issue, but I figured I needed to post it since I've exhausted all the options I know.
First of all, my phone is running stock JL2 with hardcore's K13a kernel - one day, it stopped getting recognized by my PC. All I would see was the message "USB Device Not Recognized". I need to connect my phone to my PC for file transfers and mp3 sync...
Here's what I've tried:
- All four options for USB connection
- Debugging on and off
- Uninstalling all USB Root Hub drivers and reinstalling
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Kies
- Installing USB drivers from the XDA forums
- Three different cables (I have extras)
- Three different computers (all of which work fine with my Captivate and used to work)
Any ideas?
I don't want to flash a custom ROM since it will kill the internal SD card (I have a Bell I9000M)
Any ideas on what could cause this issue randomly like this? Is there anyway to get it recognized in some other mode? Could it be related to my kernel?
Tried my last option (that I know of) and tried a different kernel (damienGTO's) but still getting the issue...
any suggestions?
Would really appreciate any suggestions...can't so much for my fiancee without this.

what do you mean when you say that if you flash a custom ROM since it will kill the internal SD card? flashing back to stock firmware is always best when it comes to fixing problems.

The Bell I9000M has faulty hardware, particularly with its internal SD card. I've gone through four of them. Although, boone knows the real cause, flashing custom ROMs seems to accelerate the problem. Regardless, this is the stock rom that I'm seeing problems on and a factory reset didn't fix it.

I'm kind of getting this same problem and it's pretty anger inducing. I recently had my first I9000m die out on me (internal sd problem, phone lasted 4.5 months!), and I just got my replacement from Bell. Now I can't connect this new one, despite any attempts at connecting, reconnecting, and installing and reinstalling drivers/kies.
It's killing me. I do notice I'm getting some MTP USB device installation error/failure when I try to connect the phone
Edit: I actually just tried plugging me new I9000m into my old no-longer-used laptop and the phone connected properly. My old computer has Vista, and my new main computer has 64-bit windows 7. Could be a part of the problem?
I thought it was a driver issue, but my Captivate connects fine. I've tried win xp and win 7 and have the issue with both.
Weird thing is that it stopped working randomly. Could it be a driver conflict?

Would really like some help on this... I can't connect ODIN, and therefore can't flash the stock firmware/kernel, and therefore can't return this for warranty...
Any ideas? I'm out of ideas...

Thanks... just needed validation.
I wasn't sure if I should try loading a Gingerbread ROM to see if that resolves the issue.. but it just seems more and more hardware related.
I also can't get a lock on GPS, despite having tried about 5-6 different modems. Hardware is failing here...
