Need some help..phone stuck in recovery mode? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the screen where the phone and computer have a ! between...how do I get into download mode from here so I can use Odin??? I've tried the vol up + vol down + power button and also tried using the command 'adb reboot download' and neither of those work......

Try this.
Open Odin
Remove battery/sim/sdcard
Put battery in
Hold only the volume buttons
Plug USB in
If this doesnt work do the process again but only holding up or down, not both at the same time.

[Solved] Galaxy death after Froyo Flash

Hi to all,
i used this way to enter the download modus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765703
it was the first time i could enter this modus. Then i tried to flash JPC firmware with odin. Something went wrong. Now my phone boots up (the animated "S" with sound), vibrate and the screen went black.
The touch controls working fine but the screen is still black and the phone vibrates sometimes.
Unfortunally i reach not the download or recovery modus.
What can i do, please help!
kind regards
srkonus
you have to get into the download mode
if you can not get into the download mode
then you are stuck
you can try to be lucky and see if you can reboot it into the ADB reboot download
Thanks for your answer, how made this with the adb reboot download? My Windows 7 does not see the phone.
I get this: error: device not found
You should get in to download mode because the s is after the download mode.
I never see the s when trying to get into download
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That is my problem, i get into the download modus not yesterday, and today only one time.
I try this:
battery out and in, center button, vol up and power -> nothing
battery out and in, center button, vol down up and power -> nothing
battery out and in, vol down up, center button and power -> nothing
battery out and in, vol down down, center button and power -> nothing
I do not know how i went into the download mode nearly one hour before.
ADB and kies find not the phone :-(
1) Pull out battery.
2) Reinsert battery.
3) Press VOL DOWN - HOME - POWER and keep the 3 buttons pressed until you'll see a yellow image on the phone. You are in download mode!
If your Phone has no Problem with the 3-Button-Combo:
- Turn off your Phone
- Hold VOLUME DOWN + HOME Buttons
- While holding VOLUME DOWN + HOME Buttons press POWER Button until you reach Download-Mode
- Release all Buttons
Otherwise the only solution is to bring it back to Samsung. ;-)

How was the condition of your battery before you got into trouble. You think you have enough power? If not, let your phone rest for a while and try it again later. Make sure that when you get into download mode you have odin ready so you can flash new firmware immediately .
Nothing,
the only thing i can see is the white samsung galaxy letters, after that the phone reboots.

Could be a little tricky to get into download mode. ;-)
Yeah,
back to samsung...nice joke. I do not beliefe, that samsung will change the phone. It was rooted and i installed the modclock recovery before to backup the ROM.
Maybe the device was really warm from charging - is this the key?
i think your Flash was ok. You´ve only forgotten to do a Data Wipe / Factory Reset from Recovery.
Have a look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769400
AFTER FLASHING TO JPC ITS NECESSARY TO DO A DATA/FACTORY RESET FROM RECOVERY (Volume up + Home + Power).
OTHERWISE YOUR PHONE WILL DO MYSTERIOUS THINGS!!!

Not download mode but rather recovery. VOL UP + HOME + POWER hold till Samsung white writing appears then release.

Thats the thing with the Galaxy,u have made it to download mode cpl o times before and u think u know how to do it right. But read carefully!!:
#1. PULL out the battery for a minute!Not 1sec,or 2...a minute!!
#2. Put it back in again, and putt the case back.
#3. Press the home-button,the big square thing at the bottom.hold it down, hold down volume-down button on the side, now press power button on oposite side of volumebutton.
#4 Make really sure u have all 3 buttons pressed at the same time.Wait for download mode

[Q] I need help

Hi,
I wonder if someone can offer me some help, i had my captivate rooted and i had cognition rom on it, i tried to update to a different rom and while i was using the ODIN the usb came loose and then the phone froze at yellow page with the shuffle, then i tried to put in the download mode by holding the power and up and down button then put the usb and then the battery, the computer do not see the phone also i only get this phone ! Computer, i hope i did not brick the phone.
Thanks for the help.
I'm replying to my own post: After i posted my question i tried to put the phone in the download mode by holding the up and down buttons without holding the power button and put the usb then the battery and it was successful.

Just so you know, holding only the volume up+down and then plugging in the USB is the normal way of putting it in Download Mode.
The volume up+down AND power button is the normal way of putting it into Recovery Mode, not Download Mode.

[Q] Bricked? If not, what can i do?

After installing Maclaw CW11.0 i decided to install SlimROM.
Now, It seems I'm in a Bootloop.
I'm unable to go to download mode or Recovery by using the buttons.. Vol Up(or Down) + Home + Power Doesn't do anything
Vol Up + Vol Down and then plugging in the USB cable doesn't do anything either...
I just see the SlimROM logo blinking for a while... then it stops... and it reboots...
Anyone any ideas of what i can do?

i think you forgot to wipe before flashing the new rom.
So pull out the battery, wait few seconds, put it in and try to reboot into recovery or download-mode.
Good luck
I'd love to do that, but how do I go into those modes if 3 button combo doesn't work nor vol up + vol down + plug in usb?

try this one (but without guarranty:
1. power off phone
2. remove battery.
3. plug in USB cable to computer and phone (with battery out)
4. hold Vol Up and Vol Down
5. drop in the battery while still holding the vol buttons
6. in 2 secs you'll be in download mode
Good luck
Thnx for the good luck
However, I've tried that method and it didn't work. I've ordered a USB Jig, maybe that can help.

Not a brick only no system support
Download mode - use three way comnations only when ur phone is totally turned off and press and hold them don't leave them
I own multiple phones and tablets and I can get every single one into download mode. Just not this one. The three button combo does not work, not even when I remove my battery first. As soon as I'm home I'll make a small video of what happens.
Btw, the only mode I can actually get in to is: POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE
I get there by holding Vol Up & Power On
Any thoughts?

U r pressing wrong combination for download mode you have to press
Vol down + "power" + home and have to hold it to enter no s3 mini logo appears before download mode
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tdznfLJsyY
see in this video he doesnt leave power button
and after that flash 3 way recovery from this thread by using odin - download mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066407
@S. Phrenic
press vol up + menu + power much longer. The s3 mini logo appears 2 times and then recovery mode comes up.
if this doesn´t help, try ADB method
1. Download and install Android SDK
2. Connect the phone to the PC via USB
3. Press Win key+ r and type cmd
4. Type adb reboot recovery
5. Done. Phone should reboot into recovery
Good luck
In the video I'm showing 3 different things:
1. Vol Up + Power + Home
2. Vol Down + Power + Home
3. Vol Up + Vol Down
Non of them work. I checked your video, I don't see how I do anything different.
Duration change, check! I've now held it for 3 min.
I've got a S2 plus laying next to me and I can get into download mode without any trouble. This means I know how to get into recovery and download mode without any trouble.

Does my phone need to be turned on for the adb method?
it says, error: device not found
Kies doesn't see the device... because it's not powered i'm assuming..
Think I found my problem.... USB debugging is disabled... I think.... as I can't remember enabling it
Try emergency restore in Samsung Kies.

Yes it needs to be turned on to system with adb debug, or to custom recovery.
For emergency mode in kies I think you need download mode as well.
You don't need adb debug enabled to use download mode, but for some reason you can't enter dl-mode

You only have to push the volume down button and plug in the USB cable.
Don't press the power button!

it doesn't work either it only vibrate 3 times
So you can't connect in flash mode, nor in fastboot mode?
Has flashtool worked in the past? If not or if this is the first time you use it, it could be due to missing or wrong drivers.
i used the flashtool before using flashmode however i never tried to use the fastboot.
Will google the tutorial regarding in fastboot and feedback as soon as possible
Press and hold the backside off button till 3 vibrations.
Then try to flash a stock rom with Flashtool. It must work. You can't brick a LBL-ed SP.

Download Mode?

i cant get into download mode? I tried adb, restarting my computer, holding vol up and plugging it in, holding vol up and vol down and plugging it in? WTF!! i can get into recovery but not download. thanks for any help
I was successful by holding the volume up button while the phone was booting.
Bump for this - after applying the ZV6 TOT I cannot enter download mode at all. Power buttons, ADB - nothing works. It won't even shut down, it just reboots. I am at a loss.
I no longer have this phone but make sure you are connected to the computer when you try this, otherwise it won't work.
For anyone else, you hold the VOLUME UP then plug it in to the computer.
