Whilst attempting to update a custom ROM through my SD card. I ended up with my Samsung endlessly stuck in Samsung Galaxy S start up screen. I followed the instrutions in the Q &A section
by using ODIN to flash the 513 PIT (PDA Phone and CSC)
this what ODIN said:
PIT 513 flashed
then

once again I am unable to restart my galaxy from the on off button.
I am able to start the phone in download mode and my laptop reassuring goes 'bong' to tell me it can see it. I wanted to ask advice on what to do next as I feel I am at a critical point. If I mess it up from here I feel I may have no way back. Please advice....
First.. Your phone is NOT bricked.
Change the title......
Second read what you need to do with the custom Rom in that tread you got it from.
I guess you don't need pit and don't need to re-partition the phone and i don't think you even use the right pit file even if you needed it.
Else just flash back a good firmware.

Thank you for your response, and I have changed my title.
The custom ROM that I installed was from the sd card not from ODIN so there is no detailed information about this in the ROM thread.
After the failed sd card flash I have not been able to get back into recovery mode or switch the phone back on. I could only get into download mode, so I resorted to following some of the ODIN instructions on Q&A.
I am assuming that the best route is, as you say to use odin to flash the ROM back using some 'good' firmware.
Can you recommend a suitable ROM and where I can download it?
Thanking you in advance.
I'd suggest flashing an Eclair ROM that has 2e Recovery with Odin incl. Repartition.
Or a 2.2 ROM like JPK and then CF-Root to get 2e Recovery back.
Then flash the custom ROM.
I doubt that no flash instructions were given...
Not once did you even tell us what files you even used (ROM etc.)

Hi xero2002
Thank you for your advice.
As the ROM was an SD rom update odin isnt talked about a lot in the thread. The ROM I was upgrading to was Darky's latest Legendary Steel 4.1 Voodoo. . I was upgrading from Darky's previous Raw Steel 4.0 edition. Apologies for not having said it before
I don't think Darky's rom is meant to be flashed through odin Read the instructions in the thread on how you're supposed to upgrade it
I suggest flashing to some old eclair firmware, since that comes with 2e recovery, will save you the step of having to get CF root for it
nwsk is right. Darky's isn't meant to be flashed with Odin.
And he is also right on what he said to do next.
Pretty much what I also suggested.
You have two options.
Either flashing an Eclair (2.1) ROM which comes with 2e Recovery using Odin.
Or flashing a Froyo (2.2) ROM which comes with 3e Recovery using Odin and then applying CF-Root to get the 2e Recovery back.
From there on you can then flash the newest Darky using his instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
This time please READ EVERYTHING he has to say. It really does help a lot!
For whatever reason I can't find the last Eclair post anymore.
So here's the second option I gave you, it's just one small extra step.
Do this and precisely follow instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686
Just the part where it says "HOWTO UPGRADE TO JPK USING ODIN:".
Then go here and grab the file "CF-Root-JPK-v1.1.zip" from the attachments.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Flash following instructions.
When done, you can continue with Darky's or some other custom ROM.
Thank you all for your help!
Thanks for all your input, its all sorted out now

I'm pretty sure my phone isn't bricked.
Ok, this is what I've done...
I'm on official Froyo for UK, unbranded handset (i think jpo/jpp firmware).
I tried to install Voodoo Lagfix (stable, released today) by Odin.
I started Odin up, put PDA as the Voodoo file, put my phone into download mode, connected the usb, waited for odin to detect it and then clicked start.

That's what Odin said, so I presumed it failed.
The screen was black and not doing anything so I unplugged it and removed the battery. When I put in battery and tried to start up phone, I get a logo of a flip phone on the left, with a line dash to a yellow triangle with black explanation mark, and then another dashed line to a computer.
Can I have a set of instructions on how to continue please!
which ROM did you install?
make sure the TAR is not corrupted
even if it failed, you can flash it again
the only way to find out if it works is to unplug and reboot it
there is always the JIG option if you don't have the 3 button modes

It's not a ROM, I tried to put on Voodoo Lagfix 5 (stable) onto my stock firmware from Kies (JPP/JPO).
Shall I try to reflash the Lagfix? I think I need to flash a firmware, can someone please tell me, starting to get a little stressed haha.
BTW, Download Mode is working.
I would imagine you are going to have to flash stock firmware to it, you can try flashing it again or perhaps a different kernel
got it working now guys
just reflashed it and it worked
Trying to get my Bell Vibrant i9000m phone back to stock. I had a problem earlier today with a custom rom and force closes and now I think Odin is my only option to get my phone working again.
I'm using Odin 1.7 and trying to flash stock I9000UGJK3.tar. This a "one file" type of Odin flash, no need to pick PIT file, everything is in this file.
I can put my phone in download mode (vol down / home / power keys pressed), odin recognizes my phone and proceeds to flash phone. Here is the odin progress window:

All this seems OK to me, after completing the above, phone reboots. Then just cycles back to boot screen flashing i9000m, never gets to samsung animation.
I'm wondering how to get past this. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Did you remove any lagfixes or tweaks before flashing back to stock?
I never had any lagfixes. I did do a data wipe before trying to install romkitchen V10 rom. Pervious to this I had the following working:
2.6.32.9 [email protected]#24
FROYO.DocRom_9.6.6_XWJS5
2.2.1
I9000BVJJPA
I started getting force closes on a number of apps, to me usually an indication that it's tiime to upgrade. I tried to go to: ZSJPJ_Wipe-v10-17-33-22-01-04-E8UWZEutAA.zip. I had some problems, tried to restore to previous backup roms I saved with ROM manager which did not work. So I figured would be the best to try to get to a stock base. Now my phone is stuck in rotating i9000m boot screen.
Well, tried everything I could think to do with odin with no luck. Brought the phone into the local bell service center and now have a loaner until my phone gets back. Using a HTC Desire Z, seems fine. I did a OTA OS upgrade to 2.2.1 while driving back to work.
i've the same problem but I try to flash with the Samsung firmware 2.1...
this is the same same problem. before, I've the Original galaxy S I9000M 2.2 update Froyo.UGKC1 kernet 2.6.32.9 Base on I9000UGKC1
version 2.2
i've make error to flash with 1 file:
I9000UGJH2-PDA-Kernel-Bootloader-CL490514-Low.tar
and 1 PIT.. (pit: 512)
who have Idea? thanks alot..

Hi,
I Semi Bricked my SGS I9000 and need an advice what to flash now.
I am on Gingerbread for around 2 weeks now. Went from JVH to JVO today.
Here is what i did:
- Flashed JVO (as usual, deodexed without bootloaders from here) with ODIN with Pit and Repart
- booted the Phone without issues, copied some stuff from my PC over to the phone
- rebooted into Download, tried to Flash the latest CF Kernel (CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVO-v3.2-CWM3RFS)
Odin (v. 1.7 on Windows 7 64bit btw) had an issue with it:
<ID:0/014> Added!!
<ID:0/014> Odin v.3 engine (ID:14)..

<ID:0/014> zImage
<ID:0/014> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
<ID:0/014> Removed!!
After that my phone wont boot, only shows the symbol with the red ! and the Android Logo.
Download Mode is working.
What to do now?
Should i flash the JVO (deodexed, without Bootloaders, with Pit and Repart) from the Link above? Or do i have to flash a Stock JVO (with Bootloaders) from Samsfirmware with Pit and Repart?
Or do i need to do anything else?
Greetings
the symbol appears when your bootloader is trashed.
flash again with bootloaders and it will work on most cases
http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/galaxys/GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar/download
firstly i would flash the above firmware
if that does not fix it, i suggest flashing (cant believe im saying this) darkys 9.2 odin version with 512 pit and re-partition. and THEN re-flash the above firmware
That should get you to a clean stable state, and you can decide where to go from there, i.e back to GB or custom ROM, whatever
Could anyone explain why I have to go back to Froyo when my Phone is running Gingerbread?
I still have a JPU with Bootloaders lying around here.
So the way back to a working phone would be
1. Flash JPU with Bootloaders, Pit and Repart
2. Flash JVB with Bootloaders, Pit and Repart
3. Flash JVO, without Bootloaders, without Pit and Repart
Another question is:
Did i do anything wrong, regarding my JVO and CF Version? I flashed around a lot today.. and i am... 70% sure that i flashed that combo today successfully, but there are the missing 30% ^^
oh yea i misunderstood your last post,
if your on GB now flashing GB bootloaders might fix you up, BUT if it doesnt, a clean install back to froyo always seems to do the trick for me
So, i will only do this:
2. Flash JVB with Bootloaders, Pit and Repart
3. Flash JVO, without Bootloaders, without Pit and Repart
(leaving out 1.)
?
yes, then report back with the outcome.
good luck
Got the phone up and running again with JVB + Bootloader + 512-pit + repart
Used this:
http://www.multiupload.com/ZYSFTX1DV9
And this:
http://www.multiupload.com/OAJ00SWTF1
If anyone happens to need that too.
Flashed JVO, deodexed and CF Kernel without issues now - but i used Odin 1.3 this time..
congratulations
good to hear you back up and running.. Perhaps you could put [SOLVED] in the title ?? may help other users with similar issues.
I was following the overcome guide and when i came to step 8/9 (flash overcome kernel) it didn't work, so then i chose the same pit which you use in a previous step and also the kernel and now it worked with the pit but not the kernel. i got stuck in download mode and tried to flash only kernel again but it didn't work not it got stuck on ConnectionSetup... or something like that. I think it couldn't find the device, i shut down odin and took out the micro-sd card which someone said could cause problems but it still didn't work. now i'm stuck at a screen like this: picture of phone .. ! .. picture of computer. I guess it means it can't connect to the computer. Anyone know what to do? I've tried searching the forums and tried some different stuff but haven't succeded.
Edit: Seems like i can use odin even though i don't get into the download mode, will update soon. Seems to work correctly, i'll give the flashing another try and i will make sure to cross the right boxes and so on.
Edit2: This time i checked that i had all the correct things crossed in Odin but when i try to flash the kernel it fails. what should i do? i come from gingerbread 2.3.3 (re-stocked) so it can't be the bootloader right?
Edit3: This is what i get when i try to flash the kernel:

<ID:0/036>
<ID:0/036> Complete(Write) operation failed.

Edit4: From my research it seems i have the same problem as people hade with the signed/locked bootloaders on froyo, however i'm running 2.3.3 and the thread specifically said not to use their patch so i have no idea of how to solve this. Help would be very appreciated.
Edit5: finally works, thanks to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324052

Either you flashed stock ICS, flashed that KJ1 file in odin, and you went back to Gingerbread (in that case, what happened? were you able to boot up? cause of different bootloaders) or you did NOT flash stock ICS and that file you flashed (KJ1) is an already, very old stock Gingerbread rom.
In any case, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646270

You can flash CF-Root kernel with PC Odin but that will increase your flash counter..
Download the prerooted ICS ROM from this thread and flash it with PC Odin..
You'll have ICS ROM with root after flash

Are you sure you got the prerooted ROM? It's reported that it works..
You can get the CF-Root kernel from Chainfire's thread and flash it using "already rooted.bat" method described in post #2 of said thread..
If that did not work then your only way is Gingerbread, root it, flash ICS with Mobile Odin and keeping root
