Am I the only one running sgs with froyo (JPO) that have problem with playing videos??
When running eclair I could run mkv 720p video with no lag whatsoever.
but now on froyo even simple mp4, xvids etc. lag.
it comes and goes on and off.
nothing big is running on the phone when watching.
I use my sgs for watching alot so almost thinking about going back to eclair.
I have oclf lag fix and using the build in video player (other player lag more)
hmmm no one having this issue??
I guess you did just upgrade to froyo from 2.1
If so you then have alot of old settings and data that will interfere and make the phone bad.

i just upgraded to jpo froyo then factory reset then install voodoo lagfix and test for everything. i got same problem. it lags when playing avi files but just a sec for every 10 sec i think. same with my eclair jg4
i got tired waiting for asian firmware. i just upgraded 2 days ago hehehe
You also need to wipe the cache and format the internal sdcard.
Install all app manual. Don't use any old backup...
Try other lagfix to se if you get better result.

hmmm okay.
well I did a wipe off everything.
might have to try again and clear everything and then see.
I've upgraded to froyo too. Factory reset. MP4 recording to SD-card as well as phone is not very good. Lot's of stutter and a-synchronity in sound. Not only when played on phone but also when played back on pc. Both highest and second highest quality. #fail
experiencing around 0.5 second lag between audio and video, for both movie files and recorded video...its kind of weird, now all my music videos look retarded eclair didn't have this problem..hmm..
It's a problem that I've noticed since I first flashed a froyo firmware, XXJPK. JPM was about the same, but JPO is an improvement. It's still not silky smooth like it was in Eclair. Samsung have F***ed it up, and haven't fully fixed it yet. I think it'll be improved with newer firmware.
Oh, and what DamianGto was saying is irrelevant. It has nothing to do with restoring apps from Éclair.

There were a whole truck load of firmwares for Eclair, and hopefully the trend will continue. I think they will release a better performing 2.2 ROM in a few months time, after the Froyo roll-out is complete.
I've been with JPO before, never had video lag issues!

Yeah.. No. Everyone has the problem. Some people just haven't played the correct files and haven't come across it, or they just haven't noticed.
yeah, JPO here and I tried a mkv 720p the other day, ran smoothly. then a normal xvid avi...some minor lags 3-4 within a 1½ hour movie.
strange... and if I play the same movie again it does not lag the same place, so it's not the files itself.
come on samsung.... !!
Some has it some don't.
Most it depending on how fast your phone can read the file.
That's why it so different on different phones.

Yup im also getting it after upgrading to Froyo. Its annoying as hell as I have a 1hour trip to and from work and usually watch movies on public transport and the frequent stutter ruins it.
It seems like it's been improved upon in JPU
Started again on JPU
At first when i upgraded to JPU the stutter wasnt there at all.. But all of a sudden it started 10 times worse.
It now even stops the videos from playing, happens in all players.

Well it has to be an app you did install that caused this .
**Using my own JPU kernel, z4mod, 339MB Ram and ext2 filesystem**
i heard that playing the video from an external microSD card solves the problem, any truth to this? all my vids are on internal sd and i don't have an external card..

Has the time come to finally scrap all the lagfixes with the release of JPA/JPO?
Please, no Quadrant or similar synthetic arguments against. The "real-feel" of the phone is the only relevant benchmark.
So, in your experience in the operation of the new firmwares, comparing them in a native vs. lagfixed state, is it time to dispense with the lagfixes?
Don't think so....
But JPO is speedy when fresh.
Lag is still there, less noticable, but there, you can feel it especially during parallel download and installing apps or when you have a running background updating/sync process.
Voodoo is mature enough anyway, infact, I kinda do miss Voodoo's brightness and color fix on 2.2.
I'm on Jpa,don't feel the NEEd for lagfix...i gets' hung for a while on installation and other small slowdowns, but it's really good overall (noticeably better than cooked jpm/jp6,at least)
Nope, no reason to dump them yet...
Media scanning still takes a while in stock, while with a lagfix it's about 2 seconds. So the phone is in a fully usable state much sooner after booting or when adding/deleting media on the phone.
I also used DolphonHD browser as a test.
On a fresh boot on stock firmware, it takes about 6 seconds to start up.
With a lagfix (I used Advanced EXT4 with one of those custom kernels) it starts up within 2 seconds on fresh boot.
Samsung needs to dump this RFS crap, it's a horrible joke.
There is definitely still lag and random pauses in JPO, no question about that. Although it may be a slight improvement over previous Froyo betas, you still need an EXT4 lag-fix to eliminate the lag and pauses that exist in stock JPO.

No - user experience (especially with RSS reader) is still much better with OCLF (10 times faster).
Maybe, if I didn't use RSS reader which requires fast IO I'd live without OCLF...
Oops! I voted no, but wanted to vote yes!
I use JPO and I experienced lag without apps installed.. So clean it lagged. I didn't clear the sdcard before the lag (I think it's useless), but I did reset to factory defaults.
Just like all the Eclair releases, Froyo certainly seems to be getting better with every "release". As already mentioned a few posts earlier, JPA certainly zooms when fresh.
That said, it really is too soon to get rid of lagfixes. When Froyo matures to the level of, say JM9, then would be an appropriate time for such a thought. Till then, hello Voodoo....
The best test of lag would be NewsRob imo. Can someone with a non lagfixed JPO test it out? I can already confirm it flies on JPO + Voodoo.

I dont have any real lagging issues on my phone but I can see that moving around the inbox is definitly faster with a lagfix, the rest of the phone operations are pretty smooth woth Doc's JPO and the modded kernel.
Compared to ther lesser speced phone the SGS is pretty slow so yes it does need a lag fix at certain functions
Has anyone else experienced this?
After the Froyo update on my S, video playback has become jerky at times, to the extent that the video stops but the sound continues. This never happened before....but it returns to normal after about 10-30 seconds.
I'm playing back xvid and divx avi files, approx 700mb.
Can anyone help please!? it's getting really frustrating!
Yeah I have also experienced it. But not in all videos. In mine it is just minute that is for about a 2 seconds and it becomes normal. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I am better off with Eclair.
My videos are fine, but MP3 playback hiccups...also apps force close all the time, even mid-call at times...Eclair was better, 2.1.1 made it bad and 2.2 has made it worse
Galaxy S flashed through Odin...unrooted..don't know if I ought to risk rooting it..any suggestions?
I have the same issue..already did a post about it.
did u guys restore apps/system using backup?? as far as I know this could be the issue.
I will do a reflash from scratch this weekend and try videos on a fresh install.
I am convinced that this is one of the issue. I had flashed a custom rom froyo and I have also flashed through kies hack JPO. In both versions of froyo, I have the same issue. I have not restored any backup or anything.
yeah I just upgraded to asian jpd via odin was on stock optus rom. Hardreset etc. lagfix fixed via z4mod rooted. Experiencing the same jerky video playback with standard divx videos. Tried another data wipe but problem persists.

Did you find any solution to the problem.. me too stuck with the same issue..for me mkv's play good, without any issues..but if its avi back comes the jerkiness..
at least i'm not the only one....
I'm still having problems and I had to give up watching somethign on the way to work as it was so bad and kept saying "cannot play this file".
I started from scratch, done a factory reset after upgrading and it hasnt fixed the problem. Also I've tried to close down all programs before watching something and even clearing the RAM, but it makes no difference.
I'm getting really annoyed with it now! Does anyone have a solution? Anyone!!?

I guess it not just the galaxy hardware but other as well... maybe it froyo.
None of the players could help, but yxflash. The main problem with yxflash that together with smooth playing it produced significantly lower quality of video-rendering.
Anyway I've managed to solve the issue. The steps were:
full reinstall of official android 2.2,
hardware reset,
microSD card formatted,
the video converted with Movavi Video converter into Ipod preset or what ever your device needs. That's all.
Hi guys,
I´ve tried most of the cooked JVH roms for SGS i9000 and also the stock roms.
Is it just me or is the Gingerbread JVH rom slower and less stable than the Froyo roms?
Why should I use Gingerbread when I Froyo is faster, more stable and the battery life is better.
What is your experience?
On my phone gingerbread is faster but very unstable, drains my battery, apps rebooting system, wifi sometimes cant reconnect after reboot just useless i have a feeling that ginger is in beta state and was never finished by samsung
i have also tryied almost every rom modyfied and untouched - all having different or same symptoms of instability funny fact is - most developers saying that everything works fine
I must admit that I've never (yet...) had any of those problems you read about all over the forums ... Speed is similar (or even better) to what I had on Froyo, and battery life has certainly improved with GB.
I'm currently on GingerReal 5.1 and although I've only used it for a couple of days, it hasn't let me down yet. Guess I'm one of the lucky few ...
I am going with GB, cuz of battery life and performance (i think it's slightly better than Froyos)
That is my feeling also. Although i had no really big problems with gb i went back to froyo. The current gb roms have nothing on the latest froyos. I like to have a rock solid phone and right now jsd is it for me. No advantage running the gb roms right now, in fact its a step backwards.

Cool, so Im not the only one having these issues. Well I guess I will go back to Ultimate or darkys running froyo then. Worst part is that SwiftKey is not working in the email client
"less stable" meaning what?
for me GB is infinitely better including battery life
@Raider0001....have you tried factory reset?
i had no problem since i was started using 2.3.3 gb room and its getting my phone looks so nice, rockn' and thanks for GB costum room!

True, almost nothing to add. GBs theme is very nice, had not many problems with JVO - but I like to sleep knowing that battery is not empty when it's alarm time in the morning That is the main reason for me switching back to a customized JSD which runs without problems - except a camera freeze after taking a picture sometimes (not very often so that's ok for me).
+1 - checked almost all gb ROM. Always problems with battery life or FC. Today I flashed back Darky 9.5 with Crysis Revolution theme and now have no problems. I like MIUI but there is terrible battery drain.

Oh man i did everything to get rid of the most annoying bug which is battery drain (spent 2 weeks searching for stability), factory reset 10 times or more. Maybe not all i9000 are same in hardware because there are many without problems and many with.
I installed GB stock (JPJV6) yesterday to give it a try.. (Have already tried all GBs).
The only problem I'm facing with it is the lag in flyover movement in applications menu... It was very smooth on Froyo 2.2.1 (JPJPM, JPJPY).. That is really annoying
Gingerbread, because CM7 is gingerbread =]
If I was still on Samsung roms, I'd probably still be using froyo tho, it's stability is peak.

If someone honestly tells me that they have these issues when following best flashing practice, i.e. ensure they don't install a clean GB rom over debris from earlier roms and I'll start to listen.
Honestly...format internal SD, factory reset, flash with PIT and repartition, factory reset (again)...then NOT restore apps AND DATA from an old rom.
If all the above is done and the installation is truly clean and there are still issues I'll start to believe*
*in the tooth fairy at least
Froyo All Tha Wayyyyyy!!!!!!
JSD 1432 vs JVO 1025 benchmarks both without lag fix, no os bug on jsd 40% os bug on jvo sure ginger theme looks awesome but for what do you want a great looking car that does 15 miles per gallons???????

hey guys, I'd like some feedback on this if you're experiencing the same..
it seems that the TV out quality deteriorated a bit on gingerbread than in froyo.. i flashed stock froyo DXJPA and stock gb XXJVH to compare and there really is a difference.. sorry i don't have a pic to demonstrate, but an apparent deterioration i noticed is that a list divider (the line in the list menu like settings) is not shown when it is in the dead center of the screen.. but when i scroll it just a bit, it shows..
also, still an issue with tv out, the video controls overlay on the video player is seen on the phone but not on the screen.. this happens on gb but on froyo, it is exactly what you see on the screen.. it is also apparent in other video players like mVideoPlayer
lastly, subtitles don't appear on the TV in gb but they do in froyo.. tried in stock video player and mVideoPlayer..
GB Best in ever thing
Hi all,
Has anyone seen a gb rom that plays or can be tweaked to play video past the 70min mark? This is a rather big thing for me, as I often take trips and like to watch movies on the plane.
I've been able to get CM6.1 and most 2.2 roms going with collin_ph's battery tweak that enables the stagefright audio. However, this doesn't seem to work with any gb rom I've tried:
CM7
aospCMod
OMGB
Deck
Evervolve
And I really like these gb roms...esp aospCMod!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
are you talking about your battery just dieing or it literally wont go past 70 minutes ive never had that issue when i was on the hero.
Are you talking about your screen freezing? Most gb roms (CM7 specifically) always had minor media issues for me. Music, videos, Pandora app etc. all freeze or skip after a while. Try using that new Wildheroc sense rom, I've had much better media performance from it versus CM7
Sent from my wildheroc using XDA Premium App
to fix the freezing just set your cpu to anything over 352 low.
This is the issue with videos over 70 mins where the video freezes and the sound keeps playing. After a while the video jumps back to about the 10-15 minute mark, but the sound is still off from where the video is.
It was discussed briefly in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864403 for a while starting at #14691, but I never saw a resolution.
This was fixed in 2.2 with the enable stagefright fix in collin_ph's battery tweak, and you could evidently do it manually by altering the stagefright line in build.prop, but when I looked at the build.prop on a couple of GB roms there was no line, and inserting a line brought no joy.
I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything, I've been searching for days and days and actually see very little on this issue. Guess not everyone watches full-length movies like me.

I actually had mine set at 352 ondemand, to help with the camera issues, but it never helped long video playback. Thanks though!

Yeah, I tried Wildheroc out for a while, but I just love the simplicity of Aosp and my LPP. I may try going back to sense though cause this is just that important to me. If I do, I may throw down on the v6 supercharger tweaks and see how that does.
Got a sim free o2x and immediately upgraded it to gingerbread using LG's tool.
I have noticed that the performance degrades over time especially noticable with scrolling web pages and youtube.
From a clean boot, i fire up youtube and can watch big bug bunny in 1080p full screen and very smooth. When I come back to it a few days lastr, the same video stutters and the audio also skips. I can create this effect a lot quicker by playing something with the built in video player. After having played a video on SD card, i go back to youtube and its a stutter show again.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this using standard gingerbread on the O2x? I'v tried killing various apps and uninstalling others but nothing very scientific and the only way I can get back to normal performance if with a reboot. Any help gratefully appreciated!
Sounds to me like the ram is busy. Just try an app that cleans up the ram.
Stock kernel has bug in memory management. Solution is to flash for example Spica's kernel, latest r11-c is very very good.
Evidently that supposes to root - instal clockwork mod recovery first.

I have a problem with Spica's kernel , I think that it doesnt support netfilter (iptables) thus I cant use Droidwall, any solution?
Thanks
Instal iptables from market?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mgranja.iptables
Edit: the app says that iptables is already installed in kernel, not in the latest version but present. That's perhaps the problem. Only thing is to ask Spica to update to last version.
Ohhhh, i will check it later! thanks!!!
Have tried some RAM clean up apps, unfortunately it makes no difference. The amount of RAM free seemed to make no difference, i had it running smoothly with 82mb free and stuttering with over 100mb ram. If something like this was happening on my linux box I would assume something is hogging the cpu but the apps i have tried seem to indicate nothing is consuming a lot of cpu resources.
I don't want to consider reflashing with another ROM if I can avoid it. Is there anything else I could try?
Kernel problem. Read above.

Reboot your dam phone then.... pcs also get laggy when they have been on for a long time, so reboot and or flash a decent kernel.
Use stock kernel\rom from 20o
I have the same problem. After about 36 hours, the phone becomes laggy. It lags when waking up the screen, it lags in menus, etc so i have to reboot it every 36 hours or so.
Speaking of kernels and roms, i've tried them all by now. From CM7 (which i could not get along with, functionality wise) to Topogigi, spica, Thanatos, carburano, gueste and erestor.
I am now on gueste 2.1 stable SR1 and the problem persists.
After about 16 hours wake-up and the lockscreen lags, after about 24 hours scrolling becomes choppy, after 36 hours dialer, contacts and other apps start slowly and lag big time.
This is the same behaviour in all roms and kernels tried (except CM7 which is a no go for me).
L.E.:
Of course, rebooting solves the problem for the next 20 hours or so, but its quite inconvenient.
