Hello guys,
i was upgrading using clockwork method to the newest cognition room, but while it was at the first at&t logo screen ( after reebooting from upgrade ) my cat jumped on my table and droped my phone and since it was without the batterycover.. the battery just flew away turning it off..
now everytime i try to turn it on.. it keeps frozen on the at&t logo screen
i cant get into recovery or download mode
and when i try to reboot it to download mode using sdk it just gives that message
"-exec "/system/bin/sh"failed: no such file or directory (2) "
what should it do ?
solved it using the odin 3 method.
as soon as connecting the battery just holded both volume buttons and it appeared as a com 7 so i could get it on odin and flash it as normal.
You should brick that pesky feline of yours... just kidding . It's a good thing you still had DM.
Always flash with bat cover on just in case
Captivate
Cog 2.3b6
Nice thread title, had to read just because of that. Glad you got it to work.
Maybe teach your cat to flash for ya?
Issue resolved, Cat chased and thread closed.
Glad you got it working.

Ok My son gave me today this phone, apparently it had Darkys gingerbread clone on it,but my son could not unlock it to be use in another carrier, instead of asking me first since he doesn't know anything about Androids,he actually make a factory restore on the phone, from withing the phone OS,(going by what he told me.
Long story short the phone did not boot up,it just sat there on the I9000 screen for ever.
So i try to get it into recovery but it would not work,so i manage to get it to boot on download mode, and i try to install a stock one,it say success on Odin and all,but when it booted it pass the I9000 pass the galaxy one,and then the screen go's black ,the buttons light on but the screen black.
So i see if i could make it boot into recovery again,it worked,i look around to see and there was Darky's Ginger clone zip,so i install it,it does install but with an error.
E: Can't mount /dev/block/st110
(file exist) error mounting /datadata/!
This^^ error when i restart it pass over the I9000 logo and the crossing colors of the X of Darkys rom boot, but it just sat there, and like in 2 minutes it vibrate short once, and then again a little longer, and like loop again doing the same every 2 minutes or so,i leave it for like 20 minutes and nothing,it doesn't pass that part.
Any help.?
I don't know if the 3 button fix was apply, but i can get the phone on download mode so i don't know.
I am trying to save the phone.
Excuse my bad English.
The phone will be fine. You need to reflash back to stock with Odin.
Follow the instructions carefully as set out in the FAQ thread

If you're able to provide information as to exactly what you did to get your device in this state that would be immensely helpful in regards to diagnosing the problem. However you'll probably be able to recover your device using a custom jig.
I can not be more explicit. I wanted to try a rom. Wasn't satisfied so i downloaded another one (with cache file, database file, bootloader, etc... ) but the file have been dowloaded too quickly (i think the zip file was corrupted...)
So i did the flash, and my tab don't wake up. I don't have a brick state (with the usb and pc logo). I don't have the samsung/galaxy tab logo. Ihave nothing on my screen. Like my on/off button was broken...
And whatever i do(like the combo on/off with the volume down), my computer don't recognize the tab. So i can't flash it again.

Well you're going to have to be if you want anyone's help.
What files did you flash? Which software did you use? Which version? Were you given errors? How did you flash the files?
Please provide a detailed step by step run-down of exactly what you did.
I can't remember, and i'm french, i can't find the right word to explain the situation...
I flashed my tab with HEIMDALL (the last version on the website) i think the problem is when i wanted to flash with the file EURO.pit (i choose this file in the "bootloader" category of the software HEIMDALL).
The problem... My computer can't recognyze the tab because i can't turn on the tab, so... I don't know what can i do.
EDIT: And HEIMDALL don't tell me any error. Just "Flash Complete, Rebooting"
EDIT 2: I think i used the wrong bootloader...
Up?
What can i do? Is a batterie problem?
Let your Tab charging for 5 Hours and then try again.
Sounds like you've flashed a bootloader not designed for your tablet. Luckily all Galaxy S devices store a backup copy of the secondary bootloader which is utilised when a certain resistance is detected on the USB port. You can send it off to Samsung and they'll repair it, but they might charge you. The other option is to build your own custom jig which will activate the backup secondary bootloader.
now ive got the same problem. i tried a custom recovery i found in the "bible" sticky...clock work wasnt working when i was doing adb commands. the recovery i tried is called 3e. all it would do is reboot, t-mo logo and then bootloader words would flash very quick and black screen (backlit) press the back button and i got the triangle droid.
then i got it to go into download mode and tried a rom with odin this is the rom if it helps
GT-P1000_P1000XXJME_P1000OXAJME_P1000XXJMB_P1000XXJME_XX_ITV.zip.enc
unzipped, selected in pda and clicked start. failed at the last second and the downloading android screen on tab was stuck so i powered it down.
stupid stupid stupid!
now it wont turn on period, i get nothing from usb connection or secret button presses.
ill try the "rig" tomorrow, but how will i hack up this galaxy usb to work? the guide says micro usb but obviously thats for a phone.
please help if you can, i just got this thing today
@Benjamin: I can do a custom jig for a galaxy tab?
EDIT: But i don't think the jig will help me..
"If your phone screen is always black, that is it does not display the white Galaxy S/Samsung/AT&T logo when you switch it on, then sorry, this jig will not help you. "
HELP please? Can i do a custom jig for the galaxy tab? And How?
press and hold the power button for 10 second make sure it totally off
then try to enter download mode
if u are able to enter download mode
flash roto jme v4
if it a battery problem
i think it may be battery flat, try plug it in to the charger see if it work after 10 min

Help me please! I can not solve the problem with the orientation of the screen on my Cappy. The screen is always in landscape mode.
I'm flashing different firmware (stock 2.2, darky 9,5 darky 10rc5, GR-11 and other), flasing different kernel-nothing helps correct orientation screen ((
on these ROM I get only landscape mode anywhere (setting, apps ....)
The screen orientation is only supported on 2.1 stock one click.
How can I fix it?
are you getting the roms and kernels in the captivate area or the i9000 area?
i9000 kernels that ARE NOT reoriented do that.
I'm get kernel and ROM in the Captivate area.
Have you tried calibrating on your settings > display? And when you flash back to stock did you do a master clear?

Yes, I'm calibrate sensor settings > display and calibrate with terminal > libsensor_yamaha.... Nothing has helps...
I"m have 2 Captivate, may replace system files from one to another?
Or possible to disable both landscape mode through root explore?

Yes, i did reset to default.
A now my cappy brick.... (!-comp), but DM vol- and Power On is work!
After all I flashinggg ... wanted to do a rollback to 2.3.3 JVK on Darky 9.2 through oDin ... Restart PC 15 times before the body caught in one ... After this, the mapping Pit'a continue - setup connection. Do not Target!!! He sat and waited, doing nothing disabled phone from the PC. Try to include: burning the body-triangle-Comp.
In download mode enters the phone at times only two or so. (Thanks Bout 2.3.3), while trying to enter the recovery comes out bloody triangle. Already tried 20 times to connect the body to the computer does not see one phone.
Reinstall Windows with Seven on XP, tried it 10 times, not once does not see one's phone. Take in hand the second Captivate, load into dm, ODin immediately sees it and picks up ...
Che for the crap guys? Within the body of Che is dead or what? I must say, when he sat on 2.3.3 when you connect the body to a computer almost always been a purely charge, a mount did not jump out (check mark in the development of standing).
Right now I do not know even in which direction to dig! Possible that the bottles flew all the same? Or the body would not be going down in DM?
I tried right now, the resistor body in the DM does not to go why?
Umm ... What?

Umm, what?
hey, i am posting this for a friend who bricked his phone and doesn't know much about it..
he was running serendipity 7 which is a jvo rom, and tried flashing the pauldiddy remix theme, which says is only meant for jvp and jvq roms. i used a jig, to get the phone into download mode, and the computer detected it when i plugged in the usb. but when i tried to use odin one click to go back to stock, it would get stuck at the "Do not turn off target". im not sure if anyone knows a fix for this, or if i should try using the method from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153310 instead, but i figured i would ask before i messed around with it too much
any feedback would be appreciated
how long do you wait before throwing in the towel? it does take a minute or two to finish it's task ? And are you opening Odin before you hook the usb to the phone ?
waited probably about 5-10 minutes. yeah i opened odin first, and it detected the phone and showed the Added! text
Just out of curiosity, what is the phone doing right now that you're trying to use Odin on it?
The reason I ask is that if you can get to CWM recovery, you might just be able to re-flash the rom (assuming it's a wipe package) and it would take care of the issue.
i cant get into recovery, but i can get into download (using the button combos). not sure if that means anything either
Well keep trying, and you might want to try the odin 1 click. I have a Cappy that got dipped in the pool, it would not go into recovery at all but I could get the download all the time, But it kept getting stuck at the i896 screen or the AT&T screen (odin 1 click) after 3 weeks of trying and having to wait 3 days for it to come out of it's coma it now works fine. If you try the odin 1 click it might work for you just make sure it's not ver 10.10 I think (look under battery). What screen does it go to once you press power IE: black screen rogers screen etc. ?
ive tried using odin 1 click.. like i said, the first time odin actually picked up the device, but it wouldnt get past the "do not turn target off" prompt. but i tried plugging it in again, and now it doesnt seem to even pickup the phone. when i when i try to boot the phone, its just a black screen. thanks for the input though
Got stuck here working with a friend's captivate. We were in the process of cobbling together a jig when we notices that Odin seemed to recognize the phone whenever it was at the P!C screen.
The jig wasn't working out (resistors were 5% weaker than nominal), so we just gave Odin the go ahead at the P!C screen. To our surprise, a progress bar popped up on the phone and Odin successfully flashed the stock kernel back on.
So my question is, is the P!C screen just another face for download mode? Do you really need to jig from P!C to DL mode, or are you already there?
Not 100% of the time, but most of the time yes.

Cool, that makes life easier. When it isn't, does Odin not pick it up? Or does it show but fail to flash? Just trying to get an idea of how these things act when they're pseudo-bricked. I'm coming from Droid X land where 2nd-init and SBF solve everything.
Odin will only find the phone if it can get into download mode. (Usually vol up + vol down > plug in cable)
Not true, Odin shows a com port when booted into Android and in recovery. But will only succeed if download mode protocol is initiated on the phone.

And to further add clarity, it's only the phone-!-computer screen that says "Hardware Upgrade Failure" (or something like that) that doubles as download mode. Coincidentally, that is only found in Gingerbread bootloaders. Happy Flashing
"Firmware upgrade failed" and even that's not completely true...if the flash you're attempting fails before the image for download mode is rewritten, then when download mode is initiated there is nothing to call on but that "flash failed screen" regardless of bootloaders.
That happened to me on my sisters captivate once...with eclair boots.

Weird. So, that would explain our situation. The flash failed while it was trying to negotiate the connection with the phone (or something worded like that, one of the first steps). So this jig is for real huh... Nothing like that in DROIDX land. Now that we've got it built right (no multimeter at the time, 301.6k ohms now) can we test it without altering anything? In other words, if we initiate download mode with the jig does any other kind of hard reset happen? NAND wipe or something like that? Or can we jig in to download mode to test the jig, then battery pull and reboot normally? (without plugging it in to a computer obviously - just a dry run)
Yeah, forcing dl mode shouldn't hurt anything. How do you think they test the ones that they make?
And you don't even need to yank the battery..just hold all 3 buttons and it'll reboot, if you hold them slightly too long it'll boot into recovery, but you can reboot it from there no big deal
Nice, thanks for the tip. I'll test it out tomorrow and see if my handiwork paid off. These unlocked bootloaders are fun! I do love my droid x but maybe the Verizon Galaxy S (fascinate?) would have been a good pick too.
Tangent: my friend is now up and running with the Corn KK4 7.06 under the stock ROM, got his root back. Next step, rom land.

I'm glad to hear you got your phone back up and running. This phone is pretty hard to kill for good, and with the unbrickable mod its impossible!
