2.3 Gingerbread CDMA hero? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I heard there are requirments for 2.3 gingerbread like a 1ghz processor do you think 2.3 will come to the htc hero cdma via XDA
Hopefully itll be ported to the cdma htc hero SOME how without lag
What do you guys think? Will the htc hero roms have 2.3 gingerbread?

Those "requirements" are not official, and probably not true. Who knows if we will see a port of any kind.

I'm pretty sure that those required specs are bogus atm, I mean the amount of android phones without a 1ghz processor out weigh the ones with it. And Google just started getting headway on the fragmentation issue so why would they intentionally cause it again

Overclock your processor and you should be able to run it fun.

Yes. Both aosp and CM have gingerbread ROMs for our heros. I've been running it since January
Edit: Woops... should have looked at the date of the op first :duh:

probably a noob question...

Ok, so I've always wondered, why we Hero users aren't getting an official Froyo update from sprint? Is it because our phones can't handle it?
It is because Sprint and/or HTC don't think our phones can handle it, or they are too lazy to optimize it for our device, or both.
In case you didn't know there has already been testing for a CyanogenMod ROM based on froyo for our device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722122
Cool thanks. Yeah I know Darch is building one up from scratch, but I was just curious. Thanks.

[Q] Bored with the Captivate?

Was just wondering if anyone else was bored with their Captivate.
The next "big" thing will be when Samsung/AT&T decide to give us our last update for this phone. Then what?
I stopped depending on AT&T after the whole froyo fiasco. I've been a flash-aholic ever since and can't see myself ever going back.
Once Samsung releases the source code for GB, custom roms will only be even better.
Thx devs!

If you haven't ever flashed a custom rom then I can see how boredom could set in. I have been a flashoholic since the first month I got the phone. Tried out fixed 2.1 roms, then all the original 2.2 roms, then CM7 on one phone and 2.3.4/2.3.4 roms on my second cappy. The ONLY WAY any phone will be better is the SGS2 when it comes out. While at a ATT store I tested my cappy running g CM7 OC/uv'd to 1400Mhz against the newest Motorola and my phone was just a Tad faster out of three speedtest and CPU test I performed. I showed it to the att workers and they were surprised how good mine works compared to the Motorola that has dual core cpu's. So I WONT BE giving up on my Cappy until SGS2 comes out and then it will be my backup fo sho. Secondly if you become a flashoholic it is like having a NEW and improved phone almost every day. Thanks to CM7 and Apex

Don't get me wrong, I've flashed more than my share of roms. Maybe it's time to try my hand at themeing.

[Q] To receive Ice Cream Sandwich

Anyone has idea when AT&T will deliver ICS for Vivid? HTC stated it is gonna to be the beginning of this year...
AT&T normally slows down the releases for the updates so they can properly install their bloat.
My mothers Captivate just barely got 2.3.5, and she's had if for almost a year (Could be Samsungs or AT&T's fault, but I assume it's AT&T)
Also, from my understanding it was just Quarter 1 of this year, not necessarily the first of the year. (Could be next month or so.)
I dunno, hopefully sooner rather than later, because a friend of mine has ICS running on his cappy and its by far the best release yet.
Prolly sometime between now and the end of March. I would say after Mobile World Congress at the end of February. I don't think HTC would want Sense 4.0 to be revealed until their next devices are announced at MWC. So I say, sometime in March we will be updated. I think AT&T has it ready to go, but they can't release it til the world sees the Sense 4.0 debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of next month.

If previous releases are anything to go by, we might get sense 3.5, but not 4.0. HTC has VERY RARELY updated the SENSE version when they did and Android OS update.
But the HTC flyer is rumored to be getting sense 4.0 sometime in the first Q....?

The flyer is rumored to ice cream sandwich (android OS 4.0), no mention ive seen says anything about sense 4.0. Even the curren honeycomb version doesnt really have 'sense' in the traditional way. Its just a modded honeycomb. The mods arent that large either.

Not true. Rmember the Inspire came to market with Sense 2.0 and Android 2.2.1. It went to Sense 2.1 when it got 2.3.3 Gingerbread. The Desire HD got 3.0 when it was updated to 2.3.5 from 2.3.3. Sense 2.1, 3.0, and 3.5 are for Gingerbread, Sense 4.0 is for ICS devices. Past experience and logic dictates that when we get ICS, we WILL see Sense 4.0.

Possibly but not necessarily. All of the ics leaks from HTc so far have been sense 3.5 and sense 3.6

What are the odds that CIQ will be absent from the update? I'm not going to hold my breath, but hope springs eternal....
We will likely see a leak hopefully for our device soon. The rezound and sensation both have leaks so far imagine we should be next to see a leak.

ICS Devs

Currently have a vivid and a gs2. I'm hoping for some reassurance that the devs we have here would hopefully be able to work on a cm9 or aosp ics later when all the sources drop. I've got to decide which phone to keep and ive seen that the gs2 has more devs working on stuff than we have for the vivid. Just a question. Any feedback from developers is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm working on porting ICS to the Velocity/Vivid/Raider myself. I will let you know how I go.
Also, I'm more than happy to let you test when I get as much bugs out as possible.
Upon trying to flash the system.img from Android 4.0, the handset got stuck at the HTC screen.
DHS2 is no more far along than we are in asop. Both are new still and it will take some time for either. Cm will have builds for us possibly in a month maybe sooner. Blog said something about them posting source for qsd8660 sometime in the near future I believe. That's our processor so it'd be a huge boost.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Yes, talking with an official CM Dev on IRC he confirmed it was likely that the Amaze/Rezound/Vivid line of phones (MSM8660) would receive official CM support. At the moment the 8660 is next in the list, right now CM is working on other devices, specificially the galaxy line.
CM9 is coming, it's just a work-in-progress. Check the thread in the Development subforum to see my current progress. Updates will be posted there as they happen.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind testing out ICS when someone gets it up and running on the vivid.

the latest ics release for s-off only devices requires hwboot 1.85
it shouldn't be that much longer for rogers to release ics for the raider....
Yeah, or Telstra does for the Velocity.
Telstra are really slack with their schedule as it is almost mid-March and not what we would consider "Early March"

Will we be able to use the source from the Nexus when that update is released...or will we have to wait for AT&T (or whichever carrier) to release their version of it?
So you guys do think that we will at some point get a jellybean rom?

Considering the GSM Galaxy Nexus came out before our device, and the fact its being updated...I wouldn't see any reason our device can't get in on the JellyBean fun.

Yes it may have come out before the vivid but the current and new nexus phones always get the current and new Android OS cause its Googles phones. The NExus came out with ICS out of the box, our vivid did not. It came with gingerbread. So Im sure if we do get a Jelly Bean OTA there will be a JB port before hand. That has always been my experience phones that already received an OS update before a new OS came out. Like with Froyo to GB or GB to ICS.
There isn't any reason why we shouldn't, after all my Captivate shipped with 2.1, and was on 2.3.5 after 2 updates, but it was sold in different times. When I got my Captivate the market for android phones wasn't near as saturated, and the Captivate was AT&Ts Galaxy S varient, only like their 5th android phone, and the other 4 were outdated teeny bopper texting toys. The Captivate was a no brainer for anyone who wanted a serious android phone in 2010 and wanted to stay on at&ts network. The result was a ton of owners, top notch xda support, and 2 major software updates as AT&T knew our contract would end eventually and wanted to keep us as customers.
Now times are different. The Vivid was one of many really, in fact it didn't even get the first LTE phone on at&ts network distinction, instead it had to share that with the skyrocket. And now the one x is out and the Vivid is kind of following in its shadow, not to mention HTC is struggling for business and is falling behind on upgrading other phones ie the rezound that came out the same time. I could see us being one and done. I hope we at least get a patch to deal with bugs at some point but I'm not holding my breath for jb

HTC released this statement.
"We are excited about Android Jelly Bean and are planning to support it across a variety of our devices. We are reviewing the software to determine our upgrade plans and schedule, so please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans."
you can find the story at android central (i cant post links yet )
Maybe we will get an OTA before a port....
Yeah either way it'll take a while, it always does.

I came from the Samsung Infuse and when samsung said they were going to release an OTA it meant that there was no way the end user was going to get it. Either AT&T blocks it or Samsung never sent it. Thats why I am happy with HTC. The last couple of HTC devices have been pretty good with OTAs
My vivid was the shortest wait ever but as a flyer owner they aren't always so great :'(
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
You really think the Vivid will receive an OTA JB update? I highly doubt it. I'm just wondering if we will get a port.
To some extent yeah I could see it just because there are a lot of snapdragon s3 Htc phones out there so porting to our device isn't hard, and It's not very old. But I also could see us being one and done too as the one line is supposed to be a new beginning for HTC and that's their primary focus no doubt. But if we don't get it than I can't see any other phone HTC s3 based phone getting it either.

OTA- Huge possibility
Port- definitely
Only question is which shall come first?
You know what I bet we will get it. The Vivid was AT&TS flagship HTC phone until the one x and HTC will want us to upgrade to another HTC phone when our contract is up. But at the same time our ics Rom needs a stability and performance update, and if they gave us that instead I'd be happy
