[Q] Modaco Custom Rom r4 - downclocking kernel 2.6.32.17 - Legend Android Development

Hi guys! does someone managed to downclock 2.6.32.17 kernel?
I have Modaco Custom Rom r4 and setcpu 2.0.4 (support for HTC kernels 2.6.32.17) says perflock disabler works, but when I try to downclock my cpu, the frequency changes continuously between the minimum and maximium clock (it seems that perflock disabler did not work).
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!

If speed goes bellow 245 MHz, then perflock disabler actually worked...

BlaY0, thanks for replying... anyway downclock does non works for me!
Does anyone who uses Modaco Custom Rom r4 can test if downclock works?

w/o perfloc disabler and with regular kernel it wont go under 480mhz.
maybe you are using live wallpapers or something like that.

I am using regular kernel (2.6.32.17) and I read somewhere that using regular kernel I can't overclock but I should be able to downclok under 480mhz.
(I am not using live wallpaper or sonmething like that)

After U disable perflock, U have to set upper and lower limit on 1st tab. To see how many cycles your proc stays on every frequency available, check info tab...

i have this (version 4.0 for legend !!!) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745805
before!!! you install you must have "setcpu" (from market)
then make "autodetect"...."600---400"
then aktivate profiles: full/charging---600 max 400 min
battery ---- 600 max 400 min
then you make this not before!! the phone makes an reeboot after install "overclock"... the max ist 864 and this is to "hard" and makes an reboot....
now in recovery (update.zip from "rom manager")....install zip...choice zip
after reboot go in "setcpu" and "autodetect".....profiles....
"full/charge" max 824 min 245

this because you are using OC cm-2.6.29.6 V4.0 for overclocking and this is for cm and stock based eclair rom.its not meant for new 2.6.32.17 ....so wait for the release
.
Ive had success on most roms, including MoDaCo r4 and Mdj 1.0
oc787-v3.5-legend-cm-2.6.29-signed
My method;
Install setCPU
Make backup before flashing
Don't flash after first boot with fresh rom install
After flashing, enter setCPU and autodetect freq.
Works for me every time ;-)
by me works every time good and the battery lives many more times....
i have now 787 mhz after reboot("crash") with street-view....
now works great and no more "crashes".

The OC is working... but there are some apps wich are not working for me. Just exit, without any FC message. For example: ROM Manager, Dolphin browser HD, yx player, stock browser.
So I restore the stock kernel, and waiting for a new one OC Kernel.

[KERNEL] Customized stock FroYo kernel 2.6.32.17 (01/18/2011)

OK, here we go...
smaller (lzma compressed)
overclocked
perflock disabled
interactive governor
ondemand governor fixed
CFQ and BFQ IO schedulers
UTF-8 NLS (default)
LZO compression
ext4 support
CIFS (module)
Aufs (module)
TUN/TAP (module)
...available scaling frequencies are 123, 246, 480, 600, 768, 787 and 806 MHz. Default governor is ondemand. Default speed is 246 MHz min and 600 MHz max. This can be changed using SetCPU or manually via sysfs.
Note
Support for ipv6 was modularized to make kernel smaller. You can activate it by loading ipv6 module through adb shell or terminal:
Code:
insmod /system/lib/modules/ipv6.ko
...the same goes for ext4 support (two modules need to be loaded):
Code:
insmod /system/lib/modules/jbd2.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/ext4.ko

ported ondemand governor from CM's kernel source
0.1 (November 30, 2010)
initial release
OC table from dumfaq
aufs support
interactive governor
You Sir are a genius. Will flash it now and report back.
EDIT:
Testing current (Screen Off profile 122/122), max and min frequency.
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
[B][COLOR="Lime"]122880[/COLOR][/B]
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq
[B][COLOR="Lime"]787200[/COLOR][/B]
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_min_freq
[B][COLOR="Lime"]122880[/COLOR][/B]
Working perfectly! My battery gives you a hug!
One thing I noticed: 787/122 ondemand main changes to 787/245 after turning the screen off and on again. Have to click the SetCPU slider for min freq to set it to 122 again even though it shows 122 as current min.
Video:
Works beautifully so far!
Big thank you, to you!
Is the performance any better than with dumfuq's kernel? Just wondering what the advantages to the new kernel are
What is the right way to install system overlay since it has the aufs module?
What I did_
-Flashed aufs_no_kernel.zip
-Rebooted
-adb shell to enable aufs
Code:
aufs --enable
Enabling read-write /system overlay...
Please reboot your phone for changes to take effect...
So far so good but the next reboot stopped at the first "HTC" screen with logcat (or any other adb command) telling me nothing but this:
Code:
C:\androidsdk\tools>adb logcat
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Mounting /system through Clockwork recovery didn't help either.
I googled the error and found this answer:
This means that in your recovery image, even though you might have installed busybox, the symlink to it is missing (/system/bin/sh should be either bash or a symlink to your busybox binary)

Guess aufs_no_kernel.zip was the wrong file to start with.
FYI, I am running the Modaco 2.2 r4 ROM. The only difference is that I added busybox and /etc/init.d scripts support (busybox run-parts) via the Android Kitchen to it.
Could this cause the error or am I doing something else wrong?
Thanks for you help and work!
Hmmm, it produces some graphic glitches (transient short horizontal lines ) in my Cyanogenmod 6.1 RC2, maybe the cm kernel has some other tweaks.
No probs I did a backup.
Thanks for this anyway, you're quick, man.
Cheers.
will this work for whitetigerdk's froyo rom?
my setcpu Governor states conservatice, and the frequency is Max 787MHz. Is this what it suppose to be? Because i dont understand conservative performance etc.

You should read up more rather than asking questions that have been asked many times (look at first post bolded in red).
Since you mentioned setcpu, why don't you try to read through the FAQs?

If I'm not wrong CM RC still based on older kernel (2.6.29)? And this one is for official froyo ROM with latest kernel (2.6.32).

More frequencies would be nice (I'm more than.happy with 768MHz). As would the source code of your kernel.
I am experiencing rather weird behavior of ondemand scaling governor (not just with this customized but also with stock one) comparing to 2.6.29... as if powersave bias isn't working at all. And it is changing states quite heavily comparing to 2.6.29... need to take a closer look...

Interesting, I was experiencing the same, I thought it was a problem with the stock froyo ROM and it was one of the main reasons for me to switch back to cm as it heavily reduces battery life. the interactive governor doesn't have this problem?
Well, with 2.6.29 you have to use old Wi-Fi drivers, that means Wi-Fi hotspot won't work coz there's no "hotspot" driver for old kernel.

Yeah, battery drain while not sleeping was quite heavy. It's not the problem with the ROM itself... I tried good ol' 2.6.29 and ondemand governor was acting just fine. Now I'm using interactive governor and it's doing fine. Will diff ondemand governor as soon as I find some time...

[q] gingerdx overclocking

i installed gdx v009 and overclocked it and set the setcpu to 729 Mhz - 122 Mhz. i'm having some trouble sometimes my phone just automatically reboot by it self... is there a way to fix this? or should i uninstall overclock and run it on stock ram. have anyone of you tried this kind of setup? any answers/reply or comments are welcome. please. thanks in advance.
Try lowering your Overclock.
I've heard that some people had reboot problems with OC (but not only in this ROM).
Mine is 122-691Mhz with GingerDx.008 and its okay.

Realy? What seems to be the problem on my unit.... maybe i should set my setcpu setting the same way you did... how about supercharger script have you tried? I brick my phone twice trying that supercharger.
Nope. I didn't try to use supercharger.
I've read that when we want to OC, we should try the different CPU speeds gradually.
Increase a bit and then see if the phone handles it... then increase a bit more... when the reboots or other problems start, we know which frequence we should use.
But the frequence is not the same for every CPUs... The phone is the same, but not every CPUs handle the same... We can be lucky and get it to 800Mhz without problems... but not everyone has that lucky.

Hi all,
any idea why I get no options to set min. and max. CPU frequencies in CPU settings? I am using GingerDX v011 and had the same problem in v010.
I can open the "Max CPU frequency" option, but it is empty with no available frequencies to choose...
Thank you
For using something exactly like supercharger, use the stuff in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212396&page=14
Each phone can OC to a different max frequency, for example I can't OC to 825 MHz but I know some people can.

I believe GingerDx does not ship with the X8Overclock module...
Hello:
I wanna know: is it possible to do overclock in gingerDX-v011 ?
I found a option but they are blocked
yes it is possible but you need to download X8overclock v004. you will find this in DX's signature, just click the link read the guide download and stick it on your phone where he tell's you to. then go back to W/E it is you use to OC then the option's aint blocked anymore.
Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486 click that go to bottom of one of dx's post's in his signature click the X8overclock v004 link. FOLLOW instruction's. DONE
Hope i help'd
If so please Click " THANKS "
Im on gingerdx v018 with undervolt modules(stock kernel), when I try to overclock my phone, it become very unstable(very laggy).. Do I have to remove the underclock module? If so can I just remove the module from the module folder.. thanks in advance!
As far as I know undervolt module causes phone instability when it's overclocked, try to remove that module (undervolt) and see what will happen. You can remove just by removing it from module folder and (I'm not sure but) you have to also remove line from hw_config which contains that module.
I am also using GingerDX overclocked at 710Mhz with undervolt but no problem for me so far

[Q] Min. CPU speed won't go down to 100MHz

Current ROM: [ROM][4.0.4] RemICS v1.2 (Team Remics) [17.06.2012]
The min. CPU speed won't go down to less than 200MHz, this problem have occoured to me in other ROMS also.
Using other apps than the internal ROM CPU controll does not work.
Have anyone else solved this problem?
I see now that both 100MHz and 200MHz is 950 mV, maybe this something to do with my problem?
Are you using stock kernel or any other?
Using the kernel provided in the Remics' rom, used the kernel cleaning script before install.
The kernel is NMICS. That's what I found out in the Remics thread
Well, I can only recommend u to try some other kernels eg. devil, semaphore, glitch...
This is not a problem.. in mnics and semaphore the min cpu is 200 mhz when gpu active... but it goes to 100 mhz when gpu inactive.... use application cpu spy for more details
