Hi,
I usally watch a lot of videos and hear music on the way home from work. after a hard working day the akku is nearly empty. I would rather use the rest capacity for listen to music or watch video instead of being online, but die Galaxy refuses to open mediaplayer if akku capacity is less then 10%.
Is there a fix ,or mod available?
atm I am on K7-200 Kernel JFS LF
Thanks!
For video, download mVideoPlayer.
I never knew this was a problem for music. Try Winamp or Cubed.
great you helped me twice, was looking also for a player that saves the actual play position. the stock player does this not always. mVideoPlayer works excelent for this and is very nice too and does not care about akku capacity.
Thanks!

Hi everyone...
I am going on a rather long trip so I am wondering if such a thing exists?
Pocketplayer really drains out the battery, I can't use Coreplayer because of album-art issue...
Is there a music player that will last more than 10 hours of music play in X1?
I have consistantly been able to get 8 to 10 hours from PocketMusic with a few phone calls and no other activities.
Has anyone ever used the Galaxy S as a media player only (turn 3G/GSM off completely). Any idea what the battery life is like? I never tested this out with my captivate when I had it and now I'm looking for a new media player to replace my POS ipod touch
I'm looking to get at least ~30 hours of audio playback, but the more the merrier
Not sure if this is a good example but have been doing some travel between Singapore and Ohio (USA). Total travel time to my destination is about 27 hours and basically keep my Galaxy S I9000 on airplane mode.
My main usage is for music and playing TV shows. If I play music, some soduku, and check the time and messages between stopovers, I can probably get through the 27 hours with about 5% left. If I play TV shows, then I won't make through the flight (maybe 12 approx). I make sure I carry a spare battery. Something to also be aware of, is that on my I9000, you cannot play any video or music less than 15% battery power (not sure if this is Android specific). The last 15% can seem to last a lot longer which is a shame.
BTW, I had a Gb iPod nano on a previous trip. If I had not lost it on the flight, then I would prefer using that mainly because of the size and battery life. I have added a 32 Gb micro sd card to my Galaxy so I have all my music which helps, but am always concerned about battery life. Again, not sure if this helps or is a good example.

Is it the default player that doesn't let you play with less than 15% battery life?
Good information though Thanks
I use the default samsung player but will try others later on.

Is this with the cellular radio off? Is that 27 hours of continuous battery life? What ROM/kernel are you running?
Hi
I wiped my phone, was on doc's js8 custom rom with Speedmod Froyo kernal. Before that I was on Stock JPU with CF-Root.
Flashed XXJVP stock rom from Ramad's thread via ODIN, rebooted, installed Speedmod for GB, rebooted, flash Ramad's Deodexed XXJVP stock rom and then re flashed Speedmod for GB...
Battery for normal use is great, but watching a video is eating way too much battery...
When I was on JPU, I was able to watch two full movies (about 3 hours total) played a wordcross game and then watched several music videos and listened to a load of .mp3 whilst on a flight to Eygpt, using the stock Samsung player, screen brightness set to 2% and the player brightness set to 2%, phone in Airplane mode...
After 5-6 hours use I had gone from 95% battery to around 45-50%.
Now on JVP, I ran a video for 1 hour and with the stock player again set to the same brightess, 2%... after the hour checked my battery and it was down nearly 50%
This was Not in Airplane mode this time, but would this make a big difference, in Normal use I loose 1.09% battery per hour!
Has anybody else on JVP noticed similar, or is it just my phone?
This is almost in every ROM the problem;-)
This is Not the normal Android OS or System drain, my battery lasts two days easily, as long as I don't use the video player and the drain stops when the video player stops.
hmmm data connection does consume lot of battery but 1-2%/hr at the most... so i'm guessing u have lot of unnecessary apps running, when u dont actually use it. go to settings and in about phone check the battery usage, check the apps which use the battery at the most and delete them if possible. else u can use a task manager and kill unwanted processes from time to time. hope this helps!
Cheers but tried that already, biggest app drain during the 1 hour video playback was media services 4%. Nothing else stood out, and as I said in op, normaly battery drain under same conditions but no video playback, I only loose 1.09% per hour, so it looks like the video player did all the damage?

in that case use mobo player for viewing videos(much better than stock plus it supports more formats).. use this n see if u still have drain
depends of what video codec using your file... some codecs have low battery drain some codecs medium and some high... compare working on JPU and JVP with the same video...
The video s are all .avi or mp4, same as I played when on jpu rom.

Mediaserver is draining a lot of my battery as in 54% im on Galaxy Droid 3.3 JVA and ive search other related threads but they dont seem to have a fix anyone have answers?
I noticed that to, Media Server was taking 35% of my battery so I searched and found this post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980575 .
According to that post a corrupt file (like a picture or mp3) can cause the battery drain. So I went through my files and found that I had 3 corrupt pictures. I deleted them and boom, battery usage from Media Server went down to 7%.
Three days later the battery usage was back up to 30%. This time I haven't found a solution .
Btw I'm using a Nexus S.
My phone's Cell Standby is eating like 80% of my battery even in flight mode. even if I don't use the phone at all after full charging, the battery goes from 90% to 20% in just about 10-12 hours. I don't know what's causing the problem.
In the cell standby battery status it shows Time without network: 100%
Is there any solution to this? This problem started after I flashed to Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXJVP (GT-I9000)
same problem here on ICS 4.2. Media server is keeping my phone awake and so unable to get into deep idle. Really draining the batter hanging the CPU around 400mhz. So far after resetting my galaxy, it's been able to delve into deep idle. But still not sure what caused the media server problem in the first place, and i doubt it's the last time ill see it. In which case i may have to try going through my sd files as in the post above.
i have that problem too..
but only when i listen music with poweramp.
i have even deleted my photos and stuff
is it possible somehow that songs id3 tags causes these problems?
Hmm yeh not sure. I also had a problem with my stock music player not being able to play any songs at all. So I wonder if that did it for me.

Well idont know.maybe there is corrupted file in my music files.but this is first time i have these problems. Been using many roms before and never had problems with mediaserver..
Installed Skype and called once. Battery drainage after installation, turned out the Skype contact sync was causing the issue. Unticked the sync box and battery life back to normal.
How to fix it
The mediaserver thing runs when you open media(photos, music videos) in any program. If you inactivate it you will not be able to access your media. So when your finished with viewing photos or music just go to
apps-->all-->mediastorage-->force stop
DONT CLEAR DATA, I DID IT ONCE AND I COULDN'T ACCESS MY MUSIC FOR A DAY!!!
Hi,
Sorry for the stupid query but i just want to know if is normal or not.
Optimus 2x P990 2.3.4 stock fairly new phone so the battery hasn't got the chance to do many charge cycles (only 4)
The thing is when watching a movie (normal m4v or avi not HD or such) i see the battery drain 1% every 3 minutes so if i start a movie with 100% i get with around 65-68% ~ of battery left.
low brightness, no wifi, no data, no BT, low sound and using MX Videoplayer.
Is the drainage fair or is too much ??......1% every 2-3 minutes of movie played.
Thanx,
I think thats good draining percent for watching video =)
I agree with that. The draining is normal.
But maybe the stock video player is a bit more efficient and battery friendly because of the better hw acceleration.
Hello!
Yes, this is perfectly normal as you should keep in mind what playing video means for your device…
CPU can’t sleep, the backlight of your display (on of the heaviest power consumer in this phone) is alight all the time, data access to SD card all the time and you have sound playing too - I assume.
I usually get 2h-4h of video playback on a full charge before 15% warning pops up – depending on other apps running in the background like i.e. gsm-data/cloud syncs etc.
In Airplane mode using the phone on a flight I get max. 5h.
So if you plan to use the phone as a video player, I would recommend to have a external power source handy…
BTW: I usually use moboplayer and non converted standard resolution mpeg-files from onlinetvrecorder.com.
thanx all for replay,
and yes with stock player i get better battery life.
