[Q] Bell Vibrant, black screen, no recovery - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read several topics but i couldn't find the right answer. I hope you can help me.
The problem i have happened without me doing anything recent. I have never flashed any rom, and i rooted my phone for titanium backup like 2 month ago and it worked fine. The last things i did was to install pocket legend, the new mmorpg like 3 days ago.I charge my phone during night, and take it for the day in the morning. Today, the screen stayed black when i picked it up. When i reboot, the screen goes black after the samsung logo.
The problem is that i have recovery mode (the 3 buttons) disabled and when i try to connect to kies it says i am not in samsungs kies mode.. Is there a way to force it to detect my phone so i can try update it?
According to the wiki, my phone doesnt seem to be bricked as i can still see the battery charging when i plug it. Is my phone bricked? Any hope?
I know the easiest way would be to return it to the store, but i dont want them to see my personal information/rooting as i cant even factory reset it.
There is also that topic on internal sd that has failed but i think this is not my case. You can still boot into android without the internal sd right?
I've seen a topic on soldering two mini usb cable to force the phone to go into recovery mode. I not familar enough to do it. If this method could solve my problem, could anyone sell me one?
Was there an over the air update today that could've done this to my phone?
I am lost, please help i am really clueless in what is happening to me.

are you able to go to download mode
flash your phone that way with odin i had the same problem as you

download mode as in using the 3 buttons? no i cant unless there is another way?

I can't get odin to recognize my phone.. I can't get into os so no usb debugging...

Okay, I know the jig will DEFINITELY work in this case. Any phone state I've come across with that jig, I can throw the phone into downloading. However, it seems that there MAY be hope for you PRIOR to using the jig. Are you familiar with the ADB commands? If so, turn on the phone, connect via USB, run cmd as administrator, navigate to the proper adb folder and under the prompt type in adb devices. If it shows any device, type in adb reboot download and it'll throw it into download mode for you.

Good to hear that the JIG would work. As for ADB commands, doesn't it need the usb to be put in debugger mode? Is there any way to do it externally, without going in the setting menu? I am not very familiar with the adb commands but if its doable i will go read about it.
Thanks for suggestions!

exactly... it's not possible via ADB in your conditions

Thanks you for help!
I still tried but it said that it couldn't find my phone.
I leaning toward making a JIG. I just have to figures out how if no one sell them

Did you really tryed Download Mode?
"Vol Down" + "Home" + "Power" instead of "Vol Up" + "Home" + "Power"?

I tried several time different combo listed on wiki without any success. About 3h long!
I bought my phone the first day it came out so i guess the hardware method is locked.
As soon as i can get it back running i will apply that new fix for the combo.
I am a bit worried about the homemade JIG, will it still work without usb debugging?

Where in the world are you?
If you are in the GTA area, then you can invite me for a coffe

Yes. It will. As long as the phones off and the jig is in when you turn it on

Thanks you for confirming this! I ordered the components and i will try to do it myself.
Some people have done it without any solder skill ! I hope it get here fast! I didn't know i would miss my phone so much!

Seriously! ??? I just soft bricked my phone I really don't know why these software and hardware companies can't get this right the first time. I was going to by an iphone until a sales rep showed me the galaxy s and I was impressed until I saw the black screen of death. A whole lot of B.S. to fix something that should work right in the first place. I'm getting tired of faulty equipment.
My Galaxy is still under warrenty I'll bring it back to store but I'm fed up with worthless technology.

black screen help plz
hey guys i have a galaxy s vibrant which will turn on nd the home nd back nd other buttes will turn on but my screen wont any idea what it might be ?

[Q] Bricked...

Hey,
so basically, i bricked my phone, and im currently at the phone ---!--- computer screen.
Ive googled and readup on XDA and found that you can fix this by entering download mode and opening up ODIN. Thing is, i cant enter download mode unless i use the ADB command (which requires me to be connected to the pc)...
Does that mean the only way I can unbrick it is by buying the bits from radio shack and fixing it?
P.S. I just purchased this phone, about 3 days ago from best buy mobile, so i still do have 10 days to return/exchange it and such. Should i go about exchanging it? If so, what do i tell them about it :S.
Edit : I also have installed the zagg invisishield, so will best buy allow me to return it? or should i not return it because the shield costs 30 bucks and just pay the dollar for the usb fix :S
Thanks!
Pay for the jig and after that there's an Odin one click jf6 by C30PLOL that *should* fix your three button recovery.
Edit: authors name fixed.

you have definitely tried the method: power off, hold both vol keys and insert usb into phone and then wait for download mode to occur?
the jig is definitely worth it. if you return it to best buy they might give you a new phone, or they might determine that you voided the warranty and are trying to commit fraud. lol the jig will fix your probs if all else fails

Sounds to me your rushing things a bit.
Lol, yeah, i am reading up on it :S. I follow the guides exactly but it doesnt always seem to work.

no.. you can use ADB to get into DOWNLOAD mode and Odin will see it just fine...
Open Odin -> run ADB reboot download -> Odin sees the phone - flash back to stock as normal.
I have a 1008 phone - how do you think I have to flash back to stock almost everytime?
Sorry for the confusion avgjoegeek,
What im saying is, i cant run the adb commands unless it is connected to my computer.
At the phone---!--computer screen, it wont connect to my computer, so i cant use the adb command to get into download mode :S. The volume keys dont work either.
Although im buying the jig in about half an hour, so il let you guys know how it works out then! Thanks for your help

Good luck brotha, let us know how it goes.
Tried the usual?
Pull the battery, SIM, External SDCard
Turn on Odin
Plug the USB Cable into your phone.
While holding the VOLUME +/- Button pop the battery back in.
Should put you directly into DOWNLOAD mode and you can flash back to stock.
Really really wish people would read the Q&A sticky
I managed to get my phone out of the exact same situation by getting it in to download mode with the holding vol buttons and plugging in USB. No other method would work. I would suggest trying that one again just to make sure.
Thanks for your suggestions once again Avgjoegeek and Bufgaric,
but that method simply does not work :S.
Ive got the materials for the jig now and im currently working on building it
Edit : alright, so ive created the jig... took out the battery, put it back in, didnt power it on. Put in the jig and it goes to the phone -- ! -- computer screen. Would that happen if both ends of the resistors were touching? :S
edit : apparently it does fixed and running
thanks for all your help and another very big thanks to the man who created the guide!

[Q] Seems to be bricked..

Hey everyone, First time poster here and it seems my captivate is bricked. I'm fairly new to android but I caught on with ROM/kernel/etc.. flashing and all seemed to be going well. I saw the new 3.5 update for precision and wanted to update from 3.0. I did my usual thing and restored to stock with ODIN instead of flashing over. Rooted all over again, downloaded ROM manager and flashed clockwork recovery. I selected the ROM when I was in CWrecovery and rebooted.. but for some reason the phone never gets past the boot screen. The ATT logo shows up, then the suckerpunch logo (as suckerpunch is included in the precision ROM) and then the precision logo.. but it just keeps starting over from there. I thought I did a clean flash but something went wrong obviously.
Ive tried the three button combo and anything that has been stated before on here about the three button combo timing and whatever. So it seems that I cant get in recovery or download by using the traditional methods.
I'm guessing my phone is soft-bricked, which should be relatively easy to fix, but I can't get into any mode at all. Ive seen plenty of threads with people having boot loop issues but they seem to have been solved my some combination of buttons used or the ODIN usb download mode technique. Ive seen mention of using adb commands to get into download mode, but I think I have to have usb debugging enabled which I can't enable, clearly.
Any help would be appreciated, especially since in the meantime I'll have to use my old 903sh.

Can you describe exactly which three button methods have you performed? The one that always seems to work to get to download mode is hold both volume up and down and plug in USB cable to the computer and you should be able to get into download mode (of course after taking out the battery, shutting off your phone first). You should have ODIN open before this, then after that just press start on ODIN.
I believe people with captivates who have problems with 3 button combos have batch 1008. Please tell if you can't use the method above then we can check your batch.

I appreciate the fast response.
Ive tried the above method and it didn't work. Ive also tried plenty of others like holding the power button with the two volume buttons (to try recovery) Ive also held the buttons down for certain amounts of time to see if my timing is just off, and pretty much a few other generic three button combos that are performed when this sort of thing happens. Instead of getting into download mode, it of course just shows the battery charging.
If the phone is plugged in while it is doing its rebooting cycle then ODIN actually detects it, but I still wouldn't be able to do anything I'm sure.
Ive read through many posts about this but I just cant find anything to work at all, maybe buying a jig would be the final solution. :/
EDIT: If it helps, before flashing my captivate for the very first time a month back, i was told to check to see if I could enter into download mode and recovery safely, which I could and this was on stock rom. Ive been able to get into download/recovery with other ROMs as well, idk what's up now though

If you could get into download before, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to do it now. The fact that you can see the battery charging icon indicates that you should easily be able to get into download mode. Can you double check your methods and if neither work, you could always go for JIG.
you may need to buy this to get into download mode:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...69977&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_623wt_1139
just to clearify and add one more thing to try...
you are experiencing a boot-loop not brick..
ive heard of boot loop problems sometimes getting into download mode by:
remove battery
plug in usb
hold volume buttons
put in battery
(slight change on usual method)
EDIT: you may also want to try the AIO captivate toolbox in the Dev section, it can try to put your phone into download mode
I had this happen before. I did what Tresselo said and it worked.

plug in your usb cable. let the phone reboot and see if the comp recognizes the phone at any point during your boot loop. if it does - your in luck, sort of... I had this problem as well with the same ROM. idk if its the ROM or just me screwing up (probably me screwing up) anyhow, type this command into a command prompt (must have the android sdk and adb installed) get into the tools folder where ever that may be at for me its C:\android\tools
from this dir type this: adb reboot download - do this as soon as the comp recognizes your phone - should work.... IF the comp is seeing the phone. If its not you WILL need a JIG which can be made fairly easy.
Try adb if you haven't already. Instructions are in the stickies in the Dev section.

I downloaded the android SDK and installed all the necessary components, as soon as I hit the right directory (for me C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools>adb reboot download) and I get "error: device not found". So adb seems to be running right and I may just have to get my timing right, but as of trying a good ten times I'm not having any luck.
When booting up my cap while plugged into the computer, the noise that signals a usb connection sounds and when going into device manager and looking at usb connections, its says samsung android device. Seems like I could get into download, but I guess I'll just keep trying to time it exactly right even though Ive hit the command near the connection noise every time.
I'm not losing hope, but I went ahead and ordered the jig off of ebay that mengbo posted, I'm really hoping that the jig could solve my problem for good. From your perspective guys, would the jig DEFINITELY work? Or is it just a kinda one shot, hope for the best thing?
The JIG is a pretty sure thing seeing as how you are just in a boot loop.
CCDillon, Im in the same boat as you. Same thing happened to me. I have tried a jig and it did not work for me. Hopefully it works for you. I have tried ADB also and it could not find the device. I really hope there is something out there that can help us.
aw man, that's not good at all.. hope you can find a way. Did you make a jig and were you using the same ROM?
Hopefully its just mine and the jig works for you. I didnt mean to scare you. I made a jig at first, and it kept booting the phone. Thought I didnt make it correctly so I got one off of ebay, thinking it had to work. That one did the same thing. Thought maybe it was a faulty jig and the guy I got it from ('mengbo' on this forum) sent me another one to see if that was it. The new jig he sent (that worked on his phone) did the same thing. So, something else is going on.
I was going from Phoenix 4.5 to Supernova ROM and it gave me the same error you got. Now it Boots the ATT screen then loops the Phoenix ROM logo over and over. 1 vibrate followed by 2 more
I'm hoping the JIG works for mine, otherwise I'm not sure what to do. I admit it does scare me a bit to see that you've tried all these different things with no result. I was scanning the precision thread and it seems one of the avid users/posters got caught in a boot loop and it looks like they have gotten out of it, I sent a PM so maybe I can see what that user did, though part of me is thinking that the three button method worked for him but for some reason not for me. This is very frustrating and I'll keep an update on everything, the JIG should be here in about 3 days or so.
Also, you think it may have something to do with how many times our phones have been flashed? Ive looked up to see if flashing is bad for the phones "health" but it seems flashing won't really hurt anything, nor have I really flashed too much. Btw, my phone acts the same you described as well, with the random vibrating and everything.
My mind just seems to be jumping to any random possibility, it just sucks not having a working phone.
Hope SOMETHING works for you
Seriously - you guys are all worked up over a boot loop. the JIG will put you into dl mode just fine... only time it has high chance of NOT working is if you only see black screen - no power up at all.... you can make a JIG by getting 3 - 100k ohm resistors and a 1k ohm resistor from radio shack for about $1.25... its simple.
I removed my 3 button combo accidentally by flashing att 1 click, theres an att 1 click with 3 button fix, flash that when you can get into download mode.
If you can connect with adb use it to go to download, if not, you need a jig... it works, I have been down your path!

+1. Learn how to make the JIG you need HERE...
Or buy one from me HERE... < Shameless plug.
I was in the same situation as you guys after i had a bad flash and the loop on the bootanimation. I bought a jig online and it worked. The trick is to take out your microsd, and simcard and leave out the battery for 15 seconds. Then put back ONLY the battery in, and plug in the jig. It should turn back on and be put into download mode then flash with one click odin.
odin one click WITH 3 button fix....... saftey first.

HELP!!! Phone stuck at Galaxy S screen!!

Hi,
My phone is stuck at the galaxy S screen... I was trying to get the 3 button recovery mode to get to work following instructions on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821698&highlight=button+combo+fix
the guy suggested to go back to recovery 2e which i did following instructions from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9433417&postcount=287
After running the adbrecovery, my phone just stays at galaxy S screen, Its not going forward!!
Please help what should I do!!! Is my phone bricked???
use adb to boot into download mode.
flash a firmware with all 3 files and 512pit, check re-partition in odin and that should work
Thanks for your reply, but how exactly do i boot into download mode from adb... my phone wont go past the galaxy s screen, adb needs an active connection with the phone, if i'm not wrong...
oh yea..
so you dont have the 3 button combo ? recovery / download mode ?
yep i dont have the combo working, thats the reason why i was trying to get it to work!! is there still a way to get it work??
not without download mode, or recovery mode, i think your gunna need a JIG
JIG?? i'm not sure what that is... Can you please give me a link or any information on this JIG...
yea, a JIG is a usb cable with a resistor attached which forces the phone into download mode. you can make them your self or buy them of ebay and places like that.
they are life saving tools for recovering from bricked devices, more so for people without 3 button combo, like yourself

Thanks i'll give it a shot!! otherwise i guess there is no other option than to take this to the service center!!!
the usb JIG will work 100% all the time. its what they use themselves at samsung service centre.
it will force you into download mode allowing you to flash what ever you want.
if you take it to samsung and they find out you had customised it they WILL charge you, or refuse to fix it.
Hey man,
If you have Kies installed, hook it up to the phone and see if it will recognize it. If so, format your internal sd card. See if it will start up past the screen next reboot.

Ya thats true, however my phone only had a lag fix installed and was rooted... No custom roms or kernels!!! Since it wont go past the boot screen, i'll have to assume that they wont notice that it was rooted... Although this is a very stupid assumption but i'll take my chances if i'm unable to come up with a JIG...

oh yes totally, to be honest they will probably just jig it flash it with stock and send it back. they must do this loadsa times a day.
but there is a chance you will get some c**t who will dig deep to find the cause because he knows people like to hack android devices.
the chances are slim, but its still a chance at the end of the day.
another thing, a jig will be less than £10 and will save your ass many times.
service centre can take a full month, and if you hack it again and re-brick it, your back to square 1.
so even if you do send it to samsung, its worth looking into a JIG investment

Yep true, however i highly doubt that a service center in India will dig deep to find the issue, Service center people are really really lazy and they are much more interested in workarounds than rootcauses...
And sure thing dude, I'll try to find a ready made JIG tommorrow... I wont be able to take it to Service center until saturday, so if i can manage to find it, I probably save myself the trip and ya as you said, i'll be much more confident customizing my phone the next time... Thanks for all your help... appreciate it...

Can't get into recovery/dload mode Phone boots to white At&t screen makes few sounds

Can't get into recovery/dload mode Phone boots to white At&t screen makes few sounds
I have recently messed up my Captivate when I was trying to flash a ROM. My phone goes up to the white At&t sign and then makes a few sounds and stops. It also goes to the charging screen when plugged in the cpu when off. I have tried countless ways to get it to go into dl mode or even recovery mode. Ive tried: ADB vol up and down plus power with usb plugged in/battery put in, vol down usb plugged in/battery put in, vol up usb plugged in/battery put in, just vol up and down usb plugged in/battery put in, and nothing seems to be working. WITHOUT someone tellin me to use a jig can ANYBODY please help me find a way to do this. I have even pressed menu and volume down while the phone was in off charging state with green bar loading and the cpu made a sound and cpu said unrecognized device...from there I have tried to root my phone hoping it goes into recovery mod(which ive done to fix my phone before) also from there i have tried odin but no recognizance and I also have tried adb reboot download and adb reboot recovery. NOTHING WORKS...someone please HELP ME!
thanks in advance
What rom were you trying to flash?
why SO resistant to someone telling you to make/buy a jig? its a very easy thing to make and it will solve your no download mode issue in seconds. if nothing else will get you in download mode a jig will for sure (unless your usb port is broken) you can try and exhaust all other solutions but after you've ripped all your hair out build a jig.
its like trying to dig a ditch with a garden spade when you have access to a back hoe
Good point
stud u really make a goop point about it being easier to buy a jig than to pull ur hair out. Which if this kid really was pulling his hair out he shouldn't have been doing this at all. But, I am also having this same problem. I was using a CM7 build and it worked great until i tried to install the gapps. then it went crazy. It rebooted itself and went through the Cyanogen Mod first screen then would get stuck on the CM7 blue android on skateboard bootscreen. If I touched the screen at the bottom right it would vibrate for some reason. Shortly after realizing I needed a jig for it I decide to buy a new one cause at the time I didnt know if I could properly make one. So I've kept my first captivate still trying to find a non-jig method. I recently taught myself begginers adb on Windows XP OS but I am very much a noob except for rooting and flashing. Any help of yours would be great anytime. Thanks,
Matt

Shows that youve been a member since Dec-2010 so Im assuming that you really did try everything because you have read and read and read (riiiiiiight!?) and without telling us whether you tried to flash a Froyo or Gingerbread ROM I'd sugguest that you buy a JIG. Its really the best solution and the less time consuming if you cant think of anything else to try. You can order one or make your own...literally took about 30 minutes for me to get my phone to a place where i can work with it....a trip to the radioshack and making the JIG and back home.
If you are making requests on specifically NOT to tell you to do it a certain way then you may have to accept that you might have to solve this problem on your own, especially if you said that you tried everything except the one thing that you cant do (which is what we might suggest) and probably will fix your situation.
So i re-read after making my first post to this. I've bought my 5th Cap. now and have quite a bit more knowledge than before. So my question is. If I've completely bricked my 3rd cap... No battery charge screen and all will a jig still work for me to get into download? I was tryin to come back from cm7 but something went wrong.... I really don't need the extra phone but it would be nice to have my back up

If the screen doesnt turn on at all and there is no charge screen or recognition at all of usb than it is more likely then not hard bricked.

Thanks xijar then i will for sure purchase a jig. Worth a try anyway.

[Q] I messed up. Can get into download mode that's all..

I hope someone can help me here, I'm posting with the belief that this may be a simple enough problem (With the hope).
I tried to install a Custom Recovery on my Galaxy S using this tutorial - wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
I managed to get to step 6, and a blue bar appeared, but then i could not do step 7.
Now i cannot boot into recovery mode, nor will the phone boot past the Samsung Galaxy S logo.
I can still get into download mode, but Odin does not detect the phone.
. I have changed cable and tried different versions of Odin..
When i turn on the phone normally it shows the Samsung Galaxy S logo, blinks, and then reboots and does the same.
When i try to enter recovery, i get the same, unless i connect it to the PC. I then get an 8 pointed star, like the loading flash circle thing - the same as a flash video loading except it does not move.
I have also removed the battery and tried to enter recovery and download mode while inserting the battery.
I have removed the SIM and battery for a few minutes.
when i try to start Zadig, with the phone connected in Download mode, i get "Gadget Serial" as the device connected. I used to get "Samsung USB Composite Device"
I have tried many different things and read over the recommended threads on this forum. I think i need a bit more pointing in the right direction.
I really hope somebody can help me. I am very worried that i may have bricked it.
Thank you.
Try this:
This feature is great for people who
a) Have a bad KIES flash
b) Stuff up their phone somehow
c) Accidentally flash something dodgy via ODIN
d) Some other random occurence
To test this feature you just need to start with your phone turned off... Best way to be sure is to remove the battery.
Then
1. Put battery back in
2. Press and hold Volume Up + Home Key
3. Continue holding those buttons and then press and hold power button.
4. When you see the logo pop up release power button ONLY
5. Keep holding two buttons from step 2 until you enter recovery mode.
I hope this helps?
Also have you tried everything on this thread:

I hadn't seen that thread, but i have gone over tons of them Thanks for reply.
I eventually got Odin to detect it and I tried this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
It came up red and said failed.
I closed odin and disconnected the phone. Now i can't even turn it on.. Nothing. I am hoping the battery died, and it's a coincidence..
No response at all to any buttons... I haven't done anything else.
If i can get it to power up again, i'll try those tips.

Ok, Don't worry, Charge your phone battery to 100%, leave over night. ( keep charger connected to your phone overnight)
Best to have a fully charged battery in these situations!
Keep calm, and read and prepare what you want to do next.. Don't try everything in a frantic effort to get your phone started again.
I know it's difficult, but there are lots of threads on how to rectify most problems.
I wish you Good luck!!
sorry to ask some stupid question, but can u make sure what versiom ur fone is?
is it i9000?, or i9001 or i9003? or korean anycall? as far as i know, flashing i9000 ROM to i9003 will hardbrick da device.

This is a disaster. I tried to power it on to any mode there before i saw your post.
I needed to update the phone, because an app i needed for studying was only available on Android 4+.
Now no phone..
I saw a few threads, i hope after i leave it overnight i'll be able to power it.
If not, probably a JIG?
I don't fancy making one, but if i have to, i guess i'll give it a try. I don't think i could wait a week or more for a premade one to be delivered.
Anyway, for now, i'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks for help/tips and reply.
I'll post back tomorrow, hopefully with some better news.

Sorry to say, most likely you will need a USB JIg to fix the problem you have. :/
If you linked the correct page when you said you tried to do this- and if I opened the correct page, that takes you to an SII section. Those are SII firmwares, not for the S.
So as compacity said, please clarify what device you have... Whether its an I9000 (galaxysmtd is for the I9000) or an I9100 (the firmware page you linked). If you do have an I9000, then your brick comes from flashing a different device's rom onto the S, which would give this error in Odin beause its incompatible.
In this case, you'd probably need a USB Jig to come out of it.
Try what the others said and hopefully you'll be at least able to enter Download mode before resorting to a jig, but considering your situation, I have to say realistically a jig is your best bet :/

You need a usb jig. It will get you into download mode. Now you need to flash cf root, which will come with cwm recovery. Recovery mode should work now. If you get computer!phone, then re-flash cf root. Now you should be able to flash CyanogenMod via cwm recovery. Thank if I helped!

Both helped a lot, thanks.
I had to end up bringing the phone to a repair shop
Something i am not inclined to do if i can avoid it. Especially if i caused it, i would hope i could undo it. But because i need a jig, and i wouldn't have time to get one or make one before Monday, i had to bring it to someone else.
I am buying the materials for a jig, and maybe going to buy one also, for future.
@Soryuu - Yep, i linked to the page, so i must have flashed the wrong firmware.
I'm angry with myself because i read everything else carefully. I had been reading all day. I guess i was just tired and thought I had got to the final hurdle. I was careless.
@huskyT - Thanks, will know that for future reference. I have two old Android phones somewhere. One is a Galaxy Europa, and one is an LG (not sure what model). Both are borked in some way, but i could probably use them for practice. I think the Galaxy Europa is flashed badly. Not by me. (Thankfully).

Well....
I would have been quicker if i had ordered a jig and done it myself.. (Worth mentioning, i had told guy in phone shop what happened, and about the required "jig")
I collected my phone from the shop today, after a week, and i was told "Your phone is f*****d". To which i replied, "what? are you sure, i mean, i have only flashed it with SGS2 firmware, i'm under the impression it is very hard to break/brick, if i have a jig."
He told me, "Nope, it's beyond repair, it won't work. If you want, i can use the screen and other parts, i'll buy it off you for €40"
No thanks.
So now i am on the lookout for a premade jig. Does anybody know where i can buy one?
I meant to last week, but things happened, and without a phone i was running around a bit...
I'm going to check ebay, but if somebody could recommend somebody reliable, i'd prefer that. Thanks.
I bought it from ebay, no problem...but just saw a couple of minutes ago that also on amazon germany these jigs are offered now/in the meantime....

Thanks.
I bought a jig, and it arrived today. Have phone in charger.
Do i just plug the jig in?
Or do i also do the three button press?
The screen is completely black, and nothing appears on it.
only plug the jig in, thats all... phone will start in download mode of its own. :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:

Thanks, going to leave it charging for a little longer, and try it.
If it doesn't work, would a motherboard for the Samsung Galaxy S be easy to replace? I have found one unlocked for €25.
EDIT
Found a tear down video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxPWsLd05F4
yes thats not so difficult...only thing a bit complicated is to open the back or middle cover...but there are a few movies on youtupe where you can see how it can be opened and dismounted....btw for the first try with the jig battery has not to be that full...only if it starts in download mode and you can flash it via odin I would recommend to charge it complete.

I am after removing it from the charger, and inserted the jig. It's in about 30 seconds now, and nothing is happening..
that sounds not good...ususaly it takes only a few seconds or perhaps a minute till it starts to download mode....sorry for no better news....

What seems to have happened, is i tried to flash it with SGS2 rom. So is it unbrickable?
I am not sure but I think that minimum the bootloader is damaged...there is one more possibility: to repair it via jtag...but for this you have to find someone, who ones one and can repair it....some of the guys don't take much money for such a repair, but with transport costs ets...perhaps it would be cheaper and faster if you take the new mainboard you mentioned.
