[Q] Buying, having played demo - HD7 General

If I get a free demo, then subsequently buy the app, does it download something new, or just unlock the app there and then?
Just wondering, if I decide I want to buy a game when away from WiFi, and it's over the max filesize for 3G data, can I do that, or do I have to get within WiFi range before I can play it?

The 2 i have bought so far just unlocked (twin blades, de blob) but they are not massive games to start with. I would say not to rely on it though as i suspect it is down to the developer.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab Wifi vs 3G version

Hi there! I am from the UK and am planning on buying the Galaxy Tab P1010 Wifi version. but i have read something on the internet that the Wifi version has a dumbed down/older-gen & weaker processor (i.e. the SGX530) compared to the 3G's SGX540. is this correct? or is this only in some countries or territories?
also, why the slower bluetooth 2.1 and not retaining the 3.0 from the 3G version?
I have rung and been told by Samsung UK themselves that they don't know (read: eother they don't care or know nothing at all) that the Wifi version has an older processor.
Can someone please confirm this with me.
Thanks.
Here in Australia they are trying to fob off the older wifi version to people for a really low price. And yes you are correct it does have a dumbed down version of the processor.
Personally I would leave well alone.

Slower CPU/GPU combo, BT 2.1 instead of 3.0
The WiFi Tab can play 720p Video while the 3G can play 1080p. I think this is related to the CPU/GPU combo change. But i havn't tried the WiFi version myself, so i don't know if there isn't a way to play 1080p anyway. The 3G plays 1080p smooth (Hardware accelerated if the right content)
When i rung Samsung UK they were "trying to play down the rumour" and was always telling me stuff like "refer to the website" (which aren't updated always) and "don't believe what you hear on websites and people" and "models would differ from each country". duh! what were they trying to say then....?
It's just a disappointment as i plan to buy the Wifi Tab this weekend. they got hold of my number and they havn't got back to me.
So, is it true then that the Galaxy tab wifi has an older/slower/weaker processor for the UK and basicaly elsewhere?
can someone confirm or deny this please?
I sell these and do you know what do not know the cpu but will find out in the morning for you as my spec sheets also do not list the cpu on the wifi but they do for the gsm ... now that is bloody annoying.
Also Sammy do not claim that both will play higher than 720 but I know that have no issues with the wifi one that I have which to be honest prefer to the gsm one

Actually, turn around the box of a P1000. Says something about full hd and 1080p, while the P1010 has a nice 720p in that same spot.
Not to mention the P1000 does it with h264 video, while the P1010 does 720p only if in mp4.

I've got the P1010 and whilst I miss the whole rom flashing thing its still a Fab device - and lets face it, good and cheap for the wifi version. Had I of had a spare extra ₤100 I might well have gone for the P1000 but I wont let buyers regret kick in! As a standalone device its great.

Will do when i get them in again today.... I just went to Samsung.com to see the specs... But that doesn't surprise me at all regarding how often they update the site.

Samsung has shown arrogance and insenistivity when it comes to their already poor customer support/after sales/tech support services.
Just sighting an example her. i sent my Galaxy Apollo a few months ago to Samsung for repairs and updates as it was , very slow, kept freezing, etc, after 2 weeks all they did was "flash2 the handset. nothing else. the phone stayed the same. rubbish service TBH.
how can a big company like Sammy get away with things like that. the website's not up to date, no dedicated disccusion forums site and so on....
on a brighter note i would still buy a Samsung Android phone over anyone else as they are still good when it comes to audio and video format support on higher-end phones....
Sorry didnt have a chance to read all the posts but yest the p1010 is not as good as the 3g version. I have the p101o and it is excellent for web/reading books/comics and is ok at the rest but no where near as good as the 3g version for games/videos.
But head on down to carphonewearhouse today and they are selling the 3g version for £250 (I got my tab for £150 on a special opening day offer and I think thats what it is worth) You will have to be quick for the carphonewearhouse offer as they are clearing a lot of stock.

I totally agree. For my modest needs (internet radio streaming, music player, reading books, browsing the web, the occasional youtube video) it's been just great. We still don't have 3G out here in the boondocks, so this is filling the niche. Yes, Samsung sucks for downgrading the CPU and graphics chip. But I can't complain about the box. It does what I want it to do.
With the pouring rain behind (or rather on top of) me i went to Oxford Street and got myself the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3G version and according to the CPW salesman it was the very last one. got it for a bargain price of £250 from a high of £399 only yesterday. how do you top that?
With 2.3 coming and with a future Honeycomb/Gingerbread OS things should get brighter for the tablet. i hope.

[Q] Quality of the GN "trade" market?

I find myself in the awkward situation of having been gifted the AT&T Galaxy Note... Being that I hate AT&T with a passion, and have other issues I will list below, how would people say the "trade" market is between a BNIB AT&T Note(opened only by AT&T rep) and BNIB International Note? Cash on one or both sides? Add to the trades? (Ive got case's car chargers and 32gb microsdhc)
I think im going to jump into a trade rather quick, especially if the other person has purchased there's through somewhere like Handtec who will handle warranty issues for you.
My main reasons:
1) GPU Performance... Its been debated left and right and beaten with a stick, but after seeing a local with a IGN and playing with a GN in the AT&T store, I noticed some of the games I play, and 720p Videos (regular movies and anime's, even Thomas the Train for my nephew), just played smoother/better on the IGN!
2) FM Radio.... no... not joking at all... and for those who would campaign that I wont be able to use LTE, this also stacks with my want for FM Radio! Where I live, there is no LTE, and coverage for both AT&T and TMobile is absolute ****e, and even when I go out for work, I get ****e signal often enough to where listening to WebRadio is ABSOLUTE TRASH! (oh and the 2 GOOD -IMHO at least- WebRadio apps for Android, dont have the 3 local stations I listen to... and the direct web stream is 64kbps of crap)
To add to the note of LTE, I have used my device in EDGE mode (HD2) for ages without issue (better signal when I actually have signal, and PHENOMENAL battery life ), when I am home I have WiFi, so Cell data coverage isnt really an issue...
So! NFO's please
Page 10 and 144 views and nothing... holy hell batman!
Not sure if you already got rid of it but if not just sell for cash with all accessories except the lovely 32gb sd card and buy the Int GNote off Newegg or Handtec, at the price the AT&T Note is selling you should be able to have at least $150 left over.

Going digital, trying to make decision...

I've been amassing a huge collection of DVDs and blu-rays, over the years, both of movies and my favorite TV shows, but I'm looking to go digital, moving forward in the future. The problem is, I can't decide which "ecosystem" I want to commit to, and I was hoping to have people give some input.
I'm mainly an Android user, so I have no interest in going with Apple. That said, I have a Roku 3, and a couple Chromecasts in my home, and I'm also an Amazon Prime subscriber. So, that seems to leave my choice between Google Play and Amazon. Google Play seems to have a higher level of compatibility with my devices; obviously, it works with the Chromecast, along with my phone and tablet, and I *think* I can cast to the Roku as well (but I'm not sure about that one?), while Amazon only works on the Roku.
At the same time, though, I'm also very interested in getting stuff on sale (more so full TV seasons, than movies). I know when I was buying physical DVD sets for TV seasons, if I waited for the holiday season, Amazon would do some good deals on them, like $20 and under. But I wonder, do either Amazon or Google Play ever put full TV seasons on sale, digitally? Sometimes, I feel like Amazon is more inclined to have sales, but I haven't really paid enough attention to know that for sure.
So, any input?

It sounds like you've pretty much gotten the two best choices out there for you.
I'm in the same boat with slightly different criteria. I don't mind Apple. Also I mostly watch my digital goods at home through the consoles and Google isn't really present in those places. In my house that gives Amazon a pretty huge edge. I can watch my Amazon library and Prime on the XBox One, PS4, PS3 and iPad. Plus Prime has a lot of real world benefit (streaming and free shipping). Amazon seems to have merged better with other services and devices, so even though I don't own any Amazon devices I'm still able to use my digital stuff. Since you have a lot of Google devices maybe that's a better fit, I'd just worry about 5-10 years down the road when perhaps Google isn't making the same devices you love today. The Play service so far hasn't played well with others and seems a lot more dependent on you using their devices to some extent.
Personally I'm waiting for one of the huge mega corps to win out and establish themselves everywhere. So far Amazon is winning in my home, though they have a ways to go yet. The problem I've had is that just when a single service seems poised to take over my digital future, a lot of content becomes unavailable or moves to other services. In the meantime I'm paying a little more attention to physical discs that come with codes to let you add them to your digital library. Lately a lot of Disney Blu-Rays have included options to add those titles to Amazon, iTunes and to their own new streaming service as well. Also most of the Blu-Rays I've been picking up lately have included codes for UltraViolet so I've been amassing a large digital library there as well, but it still isn't available everywhere I want it to be. And once again Amazon has a big benefit with audio, buying most CDs there will automatically add those songs into your Amazon mp3 account. Also it's worth noting that while I am amassing a lot of digital content in a lot of places, none of those digital codes worked with Google Play.
There's still a long way to go before any service really comes out as a one size fits all solution. I'd recommend holding out as long as you can and enjoy the benefits of the competition. Let those corporations fight it out for a while, reap the benefits and in the end when the right solution comes along you'll know. At least that's how it's been working for me.

32 vs 64 gb

One week with my 32gb N6 and given the fact the phone offers actually 26 true gb, after installation of system and user apps I have barely over 21gb free to start filling with music/pictures/videos. Deducting another 2gb that I always want to leave free on any device this leaves me with less than 19GB for personal data. I have a 1-month free return option and I am now wondering whether I should take advantage of it to go for the 64gb version. I don't want to carry my entire library with me but it seems I hadn't calculated very well what 32 nominal gb correspond to in reality. How do other 32gb owners feel about the available storage?
it really depends on your needs. 32 is perfect for me. i don't keep music on my device since i have unlimited data so really its just roms, pics, n twrp backups that i keep.

32gb is fine for me. My photos get backed up to Google+, so from time to time I delete some from the device, and almost all my music is streamed. This leaves me with at least 16gb free, even with lots of apps, podcast episodes, audiobooks, email attachments and the like.

Pretty lame thread..
One is bigger than the other what else is there to know?
get the 64gb...if ur an app junky like myself...i had no choice since my price error was only for the 32gb...i had to buy it right away and deal with only 32gb
I own a Nexus 6 myself and now that I've let you know I own a Nexus 6 I would like to ask a question also. Ok, so here's it is:
I sometimes find myself wanting to make a phone call. Of course, there are a few ways this can be done. Now, I have two options that normally fill my needs and I find myself using the most. The first is my recent calls option......I pretty much just have to click and it calls the contact.....WOW. My second option is to actually "access" if you will, my contacts in the "phone app" and locate the contact I wish to call. Of course once I find that contact, I pretty much just have to touch or "click" the name to make the call.
So, my question here would be:
What are your opinions on making phone calls and the best way to accomplish contacting other humans with our Nexus 6 phones? I look forward to reading the deep thoughts and different ways people like to contact others using this glorious device. Thank you so very much, I will be waiting here bashing the f5 key on my keyboard until my hand starts to bleeding waiting for replies. My life is so empty
yeah.................................................you want more storage? Get more storage....why do you people continue to waste space with these stupid threads?

So do you recommend 32 or 64 gb dear friend?
I have no issues with my 32GB. I rely on cloud services for media, which works especially well since streaming music doesn't count against my data with T-Mobile. I don't watch videos except when I'm chilliing at home generally, where I'll either use Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or just stream from my archive on my NAS. With about 14GB of apps and their data, I have about 15 GB to snap pics and video, or download a few movies/albums if I know I'll be without data.
The answer is easy.
If you find yourself saying, "I can't decide between the 64GB model or the 32GB model..." , it means you should just get the f'ing 64GB model and move on with life.
Pretty simple. I'd rather say, "I have more GBs than I need", as opposed to, "I need more GBs.".

I am yet not sold on cloud services for streaming my music. I travel often and since I am not on my provider's network all the time (or any network at all in flight) it's not possible to stream. Then there's much more battery drain from 4G+streaming compared to listening to media locally so I still kind of prefer the old-fashioned "mp3-player" mode. I've always felt a bit limited with 16gb non-expandable memory devices so I thought a 32gb one would give me the extra space but apparently it's not exactly like that. More and more people do use cloud services for streaming their own music though so it may be something I have to re-consider in the end.

Not far from the truth...
Thing is I had settled with the 32gb model nicely but then actually found out there this 1-month free return thing so the dilemma 32 vs 64 came to mind.
It's like buying a VW Phaeton. Many would be happy just to have one. Would I regret not buying the model with a heated steering wheel and rear passenger HVAC controls if I just bought the standard version, even if I was offered the opportunity to upgrade for only the price difference of the two models? No, I still have a bad-ass car.
Perhaps that's just me, though.

Considering buying, have a few questions

If all goes well, I'll be getting the 8 inch version for Christmas, but I want to ensure it's worth the money, given the cost. Alternative is the Shield Tablet K1, which doesn't have enough storage (16 GB is way too limiting, even 32 is barely enough, and then there's the 2 GB of RAM, which apparently has become a bit low for Android .-.). Anyways, to the questions- does it perform well? Do apps stay in memory long? How well does it run heavy games, like Izanagi Online, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the new Aralon game, etc? How well does it run PPSSPP (I don't care too much about graphics on PPSSPP, if it can run games with fancy effects then sweet, if it can only run them at 480-720p, I'll live). Also, I do not plan to root it if I buy it (it's going to primarily be a gaming device, and a lot of games I play break when you root, and my dad may or may not have told me to stop rooting things...), so I'm mostly interested in how it is just stock. Finally, question wise, is it overall a good device that can be held onto for a few years without it feeling too outdated?
