terrible signal and spotty data - HD7 General

im sure this has been asked before but couldnt really find any good info. ive had my hd7 for almost 3 weeks. so far my data has been very spotty. like one minute ill load a page in IE or sync email and itll work and the next minute i cant load web pages or anything. and then the next minute i can. sometimes i cant for several hours and sometimes i dont have a problem at all. all this happening with 4-5 bars of 3g consistently.
also in my 4th floor dorm i get 1-2 bars of gprs AT BEST! its terrible. and i have a huge window but still cant seem to get good service.
one more issue is when people call me, sometimes it goes through. though with the ring delay. and sometimes it doesnt. and they call over and over and my phone never rings. not cool.
anyone have any advice? thanks

It could be a hardware problem of the antenna get a friend with the same phone and test if the same happens to him if not get a replacement...

+1. Something wrong with the handset, I reckon.

i had the same issue with my first handset. i got a new one less than a week ago and its the same issue. i could try a third cuz i believe it will be 14 days on thursday. i was told once i got 30 days. but was also told i got 14 so idk. but i may try another handset but im thinking its just the ****ty placement of my room in this building. as soon as i step outside its full 3g

Had mine replaced because of the same problem, not much signal where i would usually get signal on same network in a different phone.
Sent it back and recieved my new phone within 3 days of sending my phone off (Royal Mail Special Delivery (insured) @£5.50) although it is a freepost address.
14 days to return phone no questions asked.
30 days warranty (phone is faulty)
I use my wifi more which seems to be okay, seems okay with hspda signal browsing the net and marketplace etc.
The 30 days will be from your replacement phone, not from the date of the original

Battery Kill - Vibrate latching? Problem!

Ok, so after loading "RUU_Kaiser_ATT_WWE_1.60.502.3_22.45.88._07_1.27.14.09_Ship.exe" for a couple days, tweaking a few things and adding a few software packages...
Yesterday, after leaving my desk for a while with the phone on the desk and unplugged after recent sync with desktop....
I come back and find my Tilt is really hot and totally dead!
Later in the day, last night and today...I noticed that on some email notifications, the vibrate latches in and won't stop until I wake up the screen!
Anyone else seen this? Need to decide whether to restore to factory condition, retest etc...or send back as defective.
Cheers and THANKS!
this has happened to me several times, I finally went off and set email alerts off which is annoying. This also happened on my other HTC phone 8125
This has happened a couple of times for me too on the totally stock ATT ROM.
Annoying but, since it's always with me, it's never gotten worse than "annoying".
Same problem here, since I don't want to disable the vibrating alert I just send a mail to HTC asking for a solution.
Hope they'll anwser.
I'll keep you posted.
Percentages...
Hmm, with these numbers (already)...it is difficult to determine if this is a quality control issue with a small percentage failure. Need some more replies and a comment from HTC!
I'm already inclined to tell AT&T to send me another one, especially since this issue has been experienced with the ship ROM, and it is less than 2-weeks old.
Also original rom and I had the problem from day one.
It's night over here in Belgium, but I won't wait from an answer from HTC. First thing tomorrow I'll call the shop where I've got it.
I've had this a couple of times on my UK Vario 3. It actually happened today.
The problem seems to span different roms and batches.
pjam
I've also have this problem so like most people I disabled the vibrate notification which isn't a fix but better than having it none stop vibrate. Hope they fix this for the Vario III as well as Kaiser
solution from a HTC dealer
I just called the shop where I purchased mine, and first thing the guy asks, "do you really need the vibrating warning? can't you just use a sound alert or something?"
After explaining that I really want it to work as mentioned, he went to ask.
When he came back he tried to convince me that it's normal with WM6. It's a feature. When asked wheter it's normal it sometimes works "correctly" en sometimes it keeps vibrating, he answered it's strange but normal.
Explaining that the battery gets really hot and so didn't help either. He was convinced it's normal. But he gave me a number of HTC. Not a Belgian nr so I'll first wait for an anwer via email till this afternoon.
Anwser from HTC
I just called to HTC Europe, and the woman on the phone said "oh that's not good".
But a solution? I'll have to send it in for repair.
Still waiting for an answer on my email I send to HTC. And if I'll send it in for repair I'll first call again for a better anwser than "that's not good".
But sorry no real solution yet!
seems like this is getting worse and worse for us. I am experiencing the same issue. I have had the phone for about a 3 weeks now. The first week everything was fine. Then this sporadic occurance of the steady vibrate with new text and email messages. It seems like the first 2 vibrating pulses go through fine but it gets hung up on the last one. Full stock att ship rom here as well.
I'll get after AT&T for a replacement tomorrow (GMT -5) and post their response.
Well, not much to report except AT&T gave no fuss and new Tilt is "in the mail". I would suggest even those who are outside the "return for new one" window, get after HTC and/or their provider to replace any units with this "defect"...
Maybe threaten class action... Good luck to all.
I called back to HTC support, explained the problem again. Also said that I'm not the only one but they are not aware of the problem. I'll have to send it in for repair.
So I called the repaircenter, and it would take 2 or 3 weeks.
Don't want to send him in for so long, so for now I'll try to live with it. Still hoping for a bugfix one day.

did u walk into an att store? or make a phone call to customer support? In either case how did you go about proving this was infact an issue?
I called AT&T premier phone support from a shopping mall while waiting for my better half to shop...it took about 1 minute to explain the issue.
Basically, I told them my phone needed to be replaced because it was defective and explained the manifestation (sometimes when email alerts are set to vibrate, the vibration does not stop and if I let it keep going, it kills the battery fast and overheats the unit).
I further explained that I researched the problem online and that is appears a small percentage of users are affected by the issue so that it is likely a manufaturing QA issue.
I also suggested that they send me a new unit versus a refurbished one, at least the first time around. They responded, "Oh, of course we will be sending you a new unit".
It took another two or three minutes on hold for the order to be setup, and I had an email in my Tilt inbox before we disconnected.
Overall the experience was excellent.
Same problem here. Mine is a Hong Kong unit that is HTC branded. Using it here in Canada with Rogers.
Note: I have installed Blackberry Connect 4 as well for connection to my corporate email.
If an message comes in, it will sit there and vibrate like mad until I wake it up. For now, I've disabled vibrate.

sounds very much like the typical idiot you find in such places
is it just email notifications that are affected, or does it happen on all types of notification, ie sms message?
Good question...
Right now I'm running Dutty's Tilt Beta 2 w/ touch and all is good actually. It turns out that the phone ring uses only one vibration (long) and is followed by sound, where as my email uses 3 short vibrations only.
I'm more inclined to reach and answer the phone, than I am to reach to read an email, plus the email gets 3 chances to improperly latch the vibrate.
So, I don't know if it really is only email, or if email manifests itself as the culprit only because it happens more often.
Others may be able to confirm this.
I will say though, I'v had Dutty's running for 24 hours, and although the weekend email volume is much lower for me, I would have expected it to happen again by now.
The whole thing is crazy, sometimes it bothers the hell out of me, and other days it just gets forgotten or I assume it is a glitch.
All in all, I like the phone enough to keep it in the end, even with this problem. However, I still think the numbers on this forum are low enough that I have a decent chance of not experiencing this "bug" with my new phone when it arrives.

Can Diamond take the heat? Repair Odyssey.

Hello all,
I bought a HTC Touch Diamond on August 13 because my
old smartphone (a HTC/Qtek S200 which I LOVED) was broken.
In the phone shop, I told the salesman that my main interests
were good WIFI (Wireless LAN) and navigation capabilities.
He recommended me the HTC Touch Diamond.
He said it had a built-in GPS and would be compatible with my
existing navigation software. Indeed it was.
Initially, the Diamond performed fine though it got noticeably
warm with an active WLAN connection. Also, when using it
in the car for navigation, it gets incredibly hot. Not just
warm, the lower half of the plastic back cover is almost
too hot to touch.
After a few days, the WLAN connection started dropping its
connection all the time, requiring a soft reset to get it going
again. Often, the Opera mobile browser would cause the
phone to lockup completely, also requiring a soft reset.
Over time, the WLAN stability deteriorated further and further
until it refused to initialize the WLAN chip at all. Clicking the
WLAN symbol in the Comms manager would briefly display the
"hourglass" symbol and subsequently nothing happens at all-
the WLAN just stays off. A hard reset didn't work either
(just killed all my data - otherwise no beneficial effect).
I can't say it really surprised me, given the extreme temperatures
this phone generates.
Because at this time my mum was hospitalized with cardiac
problems, I had no opportunity to return it to the phone
shop within the first few weeks.
Instead, I called HTC and they gave me a repair ticket and had
the phone collected from my home by UPS, sending it to the
"Eurotwice" repair centre in Belgium. I included a full error
description with the phone. Two weeks later I received the
phone back with a note that "no error had been found".
Bummer. I don't know what the heck these guys tested, but
a simple click on the WLAN symbol would have shown them
immediately that the WLAN is broken.
So, I called HTC again and was given another repair number
etc, and my phone was collected for the second time on
September 24 for yet another repair attempt. Today is
October 20, so I called HTC to inquire what's taking them
so long.
They called the repair centre and it turned out they're waiting for
replacement motherboards to arrive from Taiwan. It might take at
least another 10 days, they said, "with luck".
All in all, my brand new Diamond has been in repair for a
total of 6 weeks and I still haven't got it back. It remains
to be seen if it'll work as advertized after the repair. If so,
I guess it'll be "luck". I'm keeping my fingers crossed but
my gut feeling tells me that Diamonds aren't forever.
Hi,
i am in the same situation...
Also here in Italy there are no spare parts for the diamond (i am waiting for a new mainboard)
Mine is in the repair center from the first days of september....
Seems that they are waiting the same spare parts shipments from taiwan, but never arrives...
I had to send mine off to be fixed as well....twice.
I couldn't receive any signals on my phone so i sent it to be fixed. got it back after about 5days, and the phone was fine..........for a day. Sent it off the next day and this time it took just over a week. From the repair form it says they replaced the mainboard. It works perfectly fine now.
Hopefully i won't have to send it away again.

Hi,
In which country?
thanks
Mine was in repartion too... They had to change the mainboard because the device didn't start anymore... It did only the boot up sound, but no screen, no lights....
But I don't think it is the heat! Else much more people would have the same problems... I think we had the "bad" model. Mine works fine now too, had some problems to get a signal with the GPS, but it works noch really fine!
Do you think that the replacement motherboards are technically different/more reliable than the "originals"?
Today I had the opportunity to play with an Iphone 3G.
It's cool (I mean, it doesn't get warm).

Weird Kaiser Problem

Hey guys... I have an ATT Tilt and have been having a very strange problem. 2 weeks ago I was home and just lost service while the rest of my family and i usually had serivice. I would get service occasionally but only for 30 seconds or so and maybe like once every 15 minutes.
So I went back to school and for 2 straight weeks I had absolutely no problems.. and now I'm home again and I have the same problem..
any idea??
I have had the exact same problem and I believe someone else has as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=596228
There's a link to my thread. I'm still looking to get it fixed.
Thanks mini!!!
It sounds like your ribbon cable is slightly damamged... and unfortunatly will most likely get worse where it wont; read your Sdcard, and the touch screen migth even stop working... that is what happened here... YOu can replace it yourself relativly cheaply... or pay anotehr memeber to do it... try the piece of paper behind the sin card first.. see if that helps... if not...

hd7 with signal issue, just like the iphone 4?

i got on youtube to see some hd7 reviews, and i found this video in which this guy claims to have signal issue with his hd7, has anyone have this problem too?
video below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RefnygvDeLk
got the HD7, have no issue.
It dropped a SINGLE bar.
This is disgustingly different from the iPhone 4.
are you talking about your hd7 or the one on the video?
Every phone loses signal when held by a human hand...the density and magnetic field of a person have to do with this I would think...but the iPhone4 would completely lose signal, I mean from full strength to minimal feedback...my HD7 only suffers from signal loss in my office, which I'm pretty sure is made of adamantium because nothing gets signal in there...everywhere else is just fine...
HD7 Signal issue.
I am having signal issue with HD7. I used the same sim card in HD2 and it showed full signal, but HD7 shows only 1 bar instead of 5 and some times doesnot show any signal.

Is that while you're holding it like the video shows? Because that's what this thread is about...if not, I'm pretty sure there might be different radios involved here, so maybe that could explain the signal drop...or maybe WP7 is actually more accurate in displaying the signal strength. I always realized that WM wasn't too accurate in that regard...

Looks like your issue is more to do with the Radio rather than the how you hold the phone.
Radio issues can be resolved with a Software update.
ill let you guys know my thoughts and see what happens with the signal strength, thanks for sharing your thoughts
No issue here. This phone rocks!
I have the signal issue with ma HTC HD7, i hold my HTC differently and got on some points more signal then on the others. I even lost signal up to 3 bars
No matter how much I try to squeeze my HD7 and in every impossible position which you won't ever use in real calling situations I can't make it drop ..not even one bar.
I get this when the signal is very weak. Despite the drop in the number of bars shown I've not had any dropped calls or noticed any data transfer performance issues.
Another invention of the media. I talk with my HD7 in weird positions all the time (is up against my pillow, with thick gloves etc) and it never drops bars. One of two possibilities: either a faulty handset or completely made up BS. I'm goin with the latter.

Same here.
Waiting for the Major Update.
Mine, sometimes 5 bars for no reason drop to 1 or 2 bars.
Change SIM (different service providers) also the same problem.
Not BS or media invention. Also, not a big issue if you don't drop calls or stall downloads.
Engadget report a response from HTC:

i am so happy with my HD7 signle that i can receive calls in sub basement and 2nd sub basement... my TP2 could not take call in my sub basement at all...
loving it..

My HD7 is exactly like my HD2 for GoD (grip of death). I hold it normally with the bottom 2/3rds of the body in hand an get 2 bars. But I get clear and strong reception no matter what, never any drop-outs. If I hold it at the mid point of the phone, with the bottom hanging freely, I get all 5 bars.
This doesn't bother me in the least because I never have lost a call or suffered low call quality either on my HD2 or my HD7.
I usually hold mine while hanging upside down from the ceiling under the water flow in the shower (which is an enclosed tungsten box) and I consistently bang my head against the wall to see if I can drop bars. Sure enough, I dropped 1/8th of a bar!! Jesus, I'm sending this phone back right now. Crappy HTC can't even make a waterproof device that can withstand all the conditions I throw at it. They're engineers after all; why can they not build me a superman device with no problems?
**^^You sound like this^^**
HTC makes awesome phones and all of mine (7 to date) have never had signal problems from "normal use". The carrier is a different issue.
Warm and Fuzzy Regards,
Signo
no signal issues, no drop calls no delayed messages...clear audio during calls...loving my hd7

2 Heros act like dead

I bought 2 Herod with CDMA about 18months ago.
Each day I have differenet problem but I don't want to talk about that.
2 days ago both phones sratrted to break voice while calling and even while connecting.
We wern't be able to talk because people heard us good but we couldn't understand even 10% of words.
I called Sprint(my phone carrier) customer service and I spent 3 hrs on telling what's my problem.
As usual it ended up on that they see no problems with my service and told me to check phone in the store.
I already did that procedure more than 5 times, spending more than 200hrs on talking with CS, driving to store and replacing both phones 4 times. Nothing ever changed so we just think that we try to live with those problems until contract ends.
But this is too much.
We both have rooted phones and installed CyjanogenMod7. It was working better but all problems stayed.
So.... now...
Lady on the phone updated our phones/profiles and since that moment both phones died.. literally died. That exactly happened half day later when I wwas at work. Both phones always act the same(weird right?)
So now they act in 4 ways(randomly)
1)phones are dead, I can't turn it on. Removing battery doesn't help
2)phones can be turned on. I see HTC logo and nothing else
3)phones can be turned on but they constantly restart themselves after showing HTC logo for 5-10sec
4)finally phones can be turned on but I have no connectivity, no internet, no bars and big sign "searching for signal"
BTW I have signal in my house, it's not like I moved to North Pole or something.
Usually my phone is dead and the best part is that even I finally turn it on...somehow then it's going to turn off after few minutes and I will never see signal(super weird).
It all started to happen after updating your profiles and phones but you can call me crazy but I got a feeling that they "broke" our phones wirelessly because I asked really bad for corporate number and for waiving my cancellation fees because I just have enough. That is the most... the worst company and phone ever.
Please help me. Maybe there is something I can do.
probably not much help here but try to update profile and prl again from stock sense 2.1 rom
no service/connectivity/signal sounds like a bad radio flash, try to update your radio to the latest sprint offering, if nothing else works a ##786# reset saved me one day from a bad pri, good luck and i hope you figure out whats wrong
My phone doesn't want to turn on from 3hrs(didn't happen yet) and I can't charge it. That is the end...
I'm goingf tomorrow to pay all fees and get new phones and plans in different carrier.
I couldn't run it yesterday anymore. But today it finally turned on and I'm charging it(17%). What is the quickest mnethod to install stock rom? Can you give me some links?
sorry for the late posting, but here you go:
http://support.sprint.com/support/a...e-gb746811-20091009-155624?&INTNAV=SU:DP:HDIA
read through that and you should be able to get back to complete stock
hope that helps some, and good luck
