How much do you reckon a lense like that could set you back?
About $4000 new, I can get it for about $2500 from KEH used. The prices might drop soon with the new version coming out. But there is a huge weight difference. I played around with the new one during the ProPhoto expo here in NY.

If you want quality you would have to spend much more that 200-300 USD on a quality telephoto. Try at about $1500
handy tip for those with straps that dig into your neck, over this side of the pond, motorfactors like Halfrauds do seat belt pads that wrap around the belt to stop it slicing your neck (especially for short people), get one for your camera strap and it's much nicer

They are sold out right now but keep checking they may get more in stock (not sure how but its worth a look if you really want one)
I kind of like the look of the red aluminum cover they have there.
I don't think the ones on that website are the pre production covers...

Has anyone been able to successfully order a white one yet? I have called about 4-5 times and gotten the same "i don't know" answer...
Oh wow I like the pre-production cover, I'd never seen one til now. The white one looks pretty nice too, but I feel like with a white back and a black front the phone would look too iPhone 3G like to me. It does look pretty clean though...hmmm.
Edit: delete.

I hope they fit better because my battery door is starting to get loose and not snap on tight. It squeeks too so hopefully this is more snug.

Unless I get an extended battery that needs more room (which I might have to get... for some reason when I upgraded from 2.1-update1 to the official 2.2 OTA my phone doesn't last more than a day, when before I could easily get 2 - 3 days of standby/short calls), I think I am going to customize it myself with a yet undecided design + goldleaf. I think the real gold would offset well with the stock black.

I'm almost ready to upgrade to a 7D though. I need more quick access to functions and adjustments...
Also are you ready to purchase something like this? Because it can become really expensive. You have to get the right lens for the type of shooting you'll be doing. If its just close range portraits and stuff, you should be fine with stock lens.
No one is ever fine with the stock lens, because the next one you buy is better...then you end up spending over $10,000 on camera gear like me. lol
I used to have a Canon 300D, a few years back I decided it wasn't up to the job, but still took great photos (just couldn't keep up with the Red Arrows at Farnborough), so I bought a Canon 40D after looking at the 450D and deciding it was too small for my hands.
It's a great camera and I've no need to upgrade yet (although if I had to I'd go for the 7D as it's of a similar size and better spec).
Vertical battery grip was £50 from ebay with a couple of batteries, picked up a telephoto lens and macro lens when I got the camera (although I'd originally justified the new camera by saying it would work with my 300D lenses, the urge to upgrade them was too much ), a studio lighting kit from Hong Kong, and I turned my old dining room into a studio.
Flickr portfolio
I bought a Canon 400D a few years back as my first Digital SLR. It has been a good beginner camera for me.
Review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos400d/
I started with an XSi (450D) then got a 40D and now 7D, and now I need (read: want) to buy a 5D mk II
I just bought a Nikon D5100.
It's a great camera. I'm not sure how much you're looking to spend, but if you're in the $1000~ range, it's a great choice. (mine was around $1150 with the 18-55mm, and a 55-300 VR zoom lens)
I would highly recommend it. Takes fantastic pictures, and full HD 1080P video with full time autofocus. An awesome all around camera.

In reality. You'll find out that the stock lens won't apply in certain situations. Like sitting in a hall all the way at the top with low light... Thank god I had a 70-200mm with an 2x adaptor for my cousins graduation. the Stock 18-55... well.. you know... lol

Don't get me wrong, the camera on the O2X is pretty good, but put it up against a cheap camera with a zoom len's and it's no competition. I have a £30 5MP camera from about 5 years ago that will totally blow the O2X away for picture quality.
If he wants to give a len's a go I wouldn't want to stop him from trying... I've bought enough junk recently for experiments (GSM/UMTS aerials, Li-ion batteries of all sorts, new phone housing that were such bad quality I had to throw them away, new LED lights, headphones for an old mobile phone lol.).
Anyway.. the battery thing I'm a bit dissappointed, but I'll retry the experiment.. but I learnt a lot from my mistakes.

Hi Scougar, if the other user wants to slap a LENS on his phone, go for it. But good advice is good advice, if the object of the exercise is to take pictures. I take around 10,100 pictures a year. And I must admit that there have been times when I've been glad to have a half decent camera on my O2X.
It's not a patch compared to my el-cheapo Canon IXUS 92.
Sorry to hear your battery project has stumbled a bit. Best of luck to you. I recently bought an extended battery 2400mAh for £13 delivered. It would have been even better if the battery was a 3000mAh wonder boy like the one your building. But I'm very happy with the extended performance. It definitely lasts longer.

Hi Scougar, I am running ICS, if you are so inclined, you can find it HERE.
Regarding the size of the icons. The size is largely dictated by the home launcher you are using. I'm using NOVA Launcher, which is only for ICS I'm afraid. GoLauncher is a good choice for Gingerbread ROM's.

Hi silentmelodies, the phone is fatter, no doubt. But you get a lot more time to play with your O2X.
I'm six feet tall and weigh 107Kgs. So you could say I'm a big guy. Which means in my big hands, the phone doesn't feel very fat. I suppose if you are a small person it may seem "very fat". iPhone users might say the O2X's screen is too big. Everything is relative.

lol, I'm 75 KG and consider myself overweight! (5'11" though and have small hands).
To be brutally honest, I only find the bigger girth of the phone a "what will other people think of my fat phone" problem. It's actually fine, and is easy to hold I definately prefer the slimmer phone, but then again, on my slim phone I have a massive case to protect it lol.

It seems my parents were too cheap to buy me toys like that. I mostly remember playing with those little plastic molded army men, cheap marbles, rocks and dirt.
Anyways I do enjoy taking my toys out of the box, but why spoil some of the fun by watching other people do it first?
Brightened up my morning, thanks
Makes you wonder though, what kind of dimwit films an unboxing with nothing to cut the tape and then posts it for the world to see?!
I'll probably be the only one but I just found it tragic more than funny. Seems to be more tools in this world than I thought possible. On the plus side at least your video was well made. Thanks for sharing. :good:

I was actually featured in that montage, which I thought was hilarious. If you get one, you'll see, it is not the easiest box to open. Those of you might have better luck, knowing the trouble it is to open it, but honestly, no one would have expected it to be as difficult as it was. The one guy is right. Google and Asus didn't play when it came to packaging the Nexus. Great Video.

Yeah I've got one and it was easy to open once you slash the bits of tape. Maybe you earlier model people had different packaging or something but I doubt it. Its the same with just about any product you buy nowadays. There's always tape somewhere, with a bit of a suction effect upon opening. Anyways once you finally got into your box I'm sure you were pleasantly surprised by the tablet goodness. Great device. :good:
And here I was thinking I was the only one having trouble opening the dark thing. I was wedging a spatula in between the two parts of the sliding box trying to separate the thing. I had already waited all day after I bought it before I had a chance to open it up and play with it, and the 10 minutes that it took to open the box once I got a free moment were aggravating, to say the least.
It was a PITA to open. I thought about just ripping the cardboard more than once.

That's definitely AWESOME, any way you put it together (or take it apart). Outstanding job, and you matched the colors more or less as best you could, just even MORE AWESOME.
Makes me want to go hit up a thrift store looking for some Lego blocks now.
This is quite possibly the best thing I have ever seen.
Cool design. I certainly like how you used those smooth pieces for the N7 to lean on as a cap.
Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
I'd find 2 men to stick under the rails. Make them pose with arms up, like they're holding the machine up.
Now the obligatory request:
Let's see a proper teardown and inventory of the pieces and an assembly video... MUAHAHAHAHA
Seriously though, I would like to get a list of the parts if possible or a breakdown, some of those I can't quite make out. Hell man, you need to make a kit of this thing and start making a profit, maybe even Jerry-rig it with a cradle at the bottom with 4 pogo pins in it and the microUSB and audio jacks, I'm sure it would be a popular item.
So many good ideas, I swear. If some company can make and charge $50 for a piece of wood wrapped in cloth as a Nexus 7 case, surely you could make some ducats with such a thing...
This. Is. Awesome. Without any other words. Seconded for an assembly video, if you ever get a chance.
Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
Are the 3 ring like bits on each side aesthetic or are they supposed to hold a cable?
Looks good regardless.

Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
Cool design! I might "borrow" some Legos from my nephew and try to make one as well. Can't believe no one thought about it before.

Thanks. Brilliant. And here I am 20 euro poorer buying a case and stand online.
Have just given me the perfect idea to keep my 6 year old son occupied for the weekend using his abundant star wars and batman Lego sets. I don't think I will video the endeavours - to painful for forum I expect - but if he accepts the challenge will share photos.
He he, awesome. I have some Lego lying around too, I might do a stand tomorrow.
Thanks!
Thanks you guys, for the overwhelming response. I really appreciate it )
@daryllh: I acually had two Lego men underneath (a Storm Trooper and something else) but they kept falling off when I bumped the stand. Plus they collided with the all grey theme, so I took them off.
@bsoplinger: The 3 bits on each side is actually the one half of a hinge (like the hinges I use to get the angle of the slope. They are only on there for the looks: I had no 2x3 pieces in grey, and the only 2x1 (without the hinge part) I had, was in also in a non grey color.
If more of you want me to, I'll do a video showing how it's assembled and what parts I use.
But if I were to purchase the parts, I would choose other bricks in a few places. For example, in the upper corners (under the part where the N7 rests) I've used regular (thick) 8x2 pieces because I had no 'flat' tiles (1/3 height) in 8x2.
Thanks again
YES WE WANT A TEARDOWN VIDEO.
Any info would be greatly appreciated as I would seriously go looking for some Lego blocks/kits to build one of these myself. It's just so unique and not even something that I - and apparently pretty much everyone else but you, RipRapRob, realized "Hey, I got an idea for something with Lego blocks and my Nexus 7..."
So definitely, a teardown or parts breakdown video would be absolutely welcome and appreciated so I can get the same blocks myself.
Lego superman Nexus 7 stand
I didn't think through my promise of euro5 to my son if he made me a stand. After 10 mins he came back with this offering. So Denmark 1 and Ireland 0. Mind you, this country is in a pretty poor economic state - well that's my excuse.
hehehe Superman to the rescue!!!
Re: Lego stand I made for my Nexus
That's awesome.
Sorry,delete please
:good: Nice!
You might just have a good future designing wheelchairs for disabled piglets.
My weak attempt. Don't have that much lego.
