Hello all. First of all I'm just an average user with no experience in android flashing so far. Today I decided that I cannot wait anymore for Kies update so I'm gonna flash my phone to 2.2 finally, even though I'm perfectly happy with the phone as it is now, but I want Flash on it so bad.
My PC: Windows 7 64, fresh install, no samsung drivers and Kies installed yet
My phone in kies is:
PDA: JM4 / PHONE: JM1 / CSC: JM2
So if anybody is bored enough and would feel like helping a noob here, please do!
I want to install the LATEST and one of the OFFICIAL/ORIGINAL, with no tweaks yet, ROM. I guess the BUJP8 is latest, correct? ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850229 ) ---> MY CSC: "MOT"
Also my phone can't do recovery mode, so I guess I need a fix there :-(
I greatly appreciate all the help.
Best Regards,
Luka

Hello everyone ,
I have an 8GB on Vodafone UK with the following:
PDA: I9000BUJM4
PHONE: I9000BUJM3
CSC: I9000GVODJM3
(It came with a slightly earlier version but I upgraded it in Kies today, the below is also true of the earlier version)
I can't get any of the one-click root apps to work!
I boot into recovery mode and it starts to flash the update.zip, gets to about 5% reboots and the phone still isn't rooted.
I've also tried this:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\X]
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"DEVCONINFO"=""
(Obviously mine said JM3 as thats the firmware I had installed, but I added the "XX"'s - didn't work.
Kies version: 1.51.10074_2
The MyTouch 3G was much easier than this!!
Basically I just want root to install the LagFix, and remove the carrier apps -
I'm going to wait for the official 2.2 release.
Also is there a list of offical firmware versions and a changelog anywhere?
Thanks!
bump - also running Linux so nothing to run this Odin thing on...
Hmm anyone point in the right direction pls?

VMware
install WinXP in VMware and then connect the phone to your PC and pass through the USB to the VMware WinXP machine
VMware 2.0 is free

2.1-update 1
Purchased thro' orange, and unlocked, don't think it's branded so someone may have updated it previously. (I bought phone ebay)
Using RegEdit
ProductCode GT-I9000HKDORA
Tried changing to O2 etc using some of the key mentioned, using as follows
Connected phone, using Kies (Phone setting)
Opened KIES (on PC)
Tried upgrade, but it comes up with no upgrade possible
Model Name: GT-I9000
Version PDA:JM9 / PHONE: JM4 / CSC:JM1
reviewed orange website and it looks like it can be upgraded if you use Kies, so I'm not sure what I need to do... Don't want to root at moment, in case I brick it..
thanks in advance your your advice...
Hi Bill. I'm not familiar enough with Eclair ROM codes to be 100% sure but considering the phone came off eBay I would suggest that someone has manally flashed it to a non-standard ROM and this would be why Kies doesn't offer you an upgrade. Your options to fix this are (i) to fool Kies into thinking it's a standard version which will make it offer you the official Froyo update or (ii) join the the happy flasher crew (like me) and flash a newer ROM yourself with Odin or Hemidal (being a newbie I recommend you use Odin). Have a search in the SGS forums for info on both how to fool Kies and also how to flash ROMs with Odin. One word of warning, the v2.2.1 ROMS have a serious battery drain issue so it's best to flash a straight 2.2 ROM for now until Samsung release a 2.2.1 with this issue fixed.
Thanks for reply does that mean if i have the superuser app already its been rooted. If so i have ver 2.1.3 do i need to update or it that ok to use. Thanks in advance..

is your phone working at the moment ?
are you familiar with ADB ?
if so you can boot into download mode thru ADB and then you can apply the 3 button combo fix.
As above..

Android Debug Bridge, you have to have USB Debuggin enabled on the phone.
it allows you to perform commands similar to command prompt on a PC, you can make the phone do things without using it, like boot into download and recovery mode.
a little complicated, but many many guides around, also follow the link posted by rixsta and everything you need is on that thread,

We are waiting for Samsung to release Gingerbread > promised soon and i would in your shoes wait for the official release via Kies .
That could well cure your problems .

Hi, sorry for starting another thread on this, i have already searched and tested alot many hours now, so i was hoping to get some help with the issue.
I just ordered the Galaxy Note, so want to get my i9000 back to stock rom to sell it. I managed to get back to stock rom, but i´m still not able to use Kies to update. I always get the message saying that the device cannot be updated with kies. Any help on how to get that working? I want it to work so the people buying the phone doesnt complain that updating is not working.
I´m hoping to get back to norwegian stock rom with kies able to update it.
I´m now running:
PDA: I9000XWJVH
PHONE: I9000XXJVO
CSC: I9000TENJV3
Anybody has some tips?
Thanks
You're gonna be waiting forever on Kies.
Your solution lies with usung Odin and flashing stock firmware from SamMobile.com.
Best of luck...
