so with the EVO being so easy to root and now unlock nand to get full root, can there not be a similar program like that on nexus? we just drag drop and press buttons like the EVO has? if not why? what is difference in the EVO root process and the nexus?
the difference is that HTC made our root basically available on launch, just type in the command.
For this reason no one has really been searching for an alternative way.
I didnt see any in here unless Im really tired haha, but what boot animations can we use. Are they HTC phone specific or are they general and can be used from where ever I can find them. I had some for the inspire if they will work... I am rooted and unlocked btw.
Hi all
Just a quick one I am running vjraider I know its rooted but the hboot says its s on. Is this normal? How to s off?
Sent from my HTC Raider 4G using XDA Premium App
you cannot get s off, this is why we need to flash the kernal seperate to the rom, nobody has achieved s-off yet
Ok.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I kinda figured that from reading on here, but its nice to have it confirmed.
I came from a DHD and that thing seemed easy to develop. Not that I can develop roms. But seemed like there were heaps of different ones and heaps of developers.

This phone has had many stumbling blocks,
first it has 3 versions, the Vivid on at&t, and the Raider are pretty much identical but they have slighty differing hboots so the ICS release only works for the vivid on at&t, then there is the Velocity on Telstra in Australia which again is pretty much identical except there are slight changes to the CPU, its the same cpu, but the default clockspeed is 1.5Ghtz and the others have 1.2Ghtz... they are all technically the "HTC Holiday" but with slight differences.
Second, the bootloader was locked for a long time
Third we have no s-off
and fourth, a bunch of angry people chased all our devs off when they had some problems flashing some of the roms.
So yeah uphill battle It's getting better now though
That's a great summary of our Vivid forum lol. Its' still the best phone I've ever owned regardless of the lack of development compared to other phones.
yes i agree that is a very good summary of whats happened, i have only had mine for a week, that was when the bomb went off.
this is off topic but in all the rom threads I have read it clearly says what the risks are the fact that you are here and download these roms means you are ok with the consequences.
Its always rosy when they work.
Yeah, people just don't read and I have noticed become very self important like nothing is their fault and they are demanding everything.
I am always so damn cautious, I'm not going near ICS until Telstra release it
Did you see telstra released it today.

Speaking of idiots taking risks without understanding them first...
Is it safe to update ICS from Telstra with an unlocked phone? I don't know how to re-lock it

Hey there
Is it possible to get Root and ROM on HTC Desire C? maybe a CM9 thing? or a stock rom with tweeks?
Thanks in advance!
A quick google finds this: http://www.modaco.com/topic/355158-r1-superboot-how-to-root-the-htc-desire-c/
You need to unlock your bootloader via the HTCdev site first.
I was hoping to find a better rom than the garbage preloaded on this. I found Nova launcher helps a lot but I don't know why anyone would want sense on a device. CM9 or AOKP would be pretty great right about now.
My Nexus and GS2 are both in for repair so I picked this up for $100. For the price I guess I can't really complain too much.
its a quite new phone, if this phone gets some developers i will probably buy it

I just picked up the Desire C from Virgin (Canada) and I am pleasantly surprised with its responsiveness running at 600mhz. If we could ditch the Sense it could have a ton of potential.

There is no even custom rom, so it will take some time to get at least something custom on it...
Ugh, I hate being a newb on a forum. And yes, I watched the newb video, and I totally get the 10 post rule. I'm not a guru, and I'm not (technically) a newb either. I just have a few simple questions about the Desire C, and I am searching the forums so I don't have to piss anyone off with useless questions that have already being answered.
That being said, it seems like there hasn't been a lot done on the Desire. I've already bootloader unlocked and rooted mine, and I'm in the process of downloading Nameless Rom 2.2 and I'm going to install that when it's done...
I just want to ask one simple question without sounding totally dumb: Will installing a new ROM change the CID? I've been looking into SuperCID but I'm not sure if it supports this phone or not. I'm not JUST trying to network unlock the phone, I'm trying to learn more about Android and mods in general. MY experience ends about a year ago, when I started dating a girl and my computer time slowly diminished... so my knowledge has gotten rusty. I was surprised to see Android 4 ... last time I ROM'd a phone it was to upgrade my friend's phone from 2.1 to 2.2 if I remember correctly.
Anyway, I hope this doesn't get deleted. I really am trying to look through the posts to see if there's more info but it's 8AM and I'm still awake.

The best rom for Desire C is Nameless 2.0.2 by einstein.frat. It boosts the performance, I noticed an increase of speed on my nds4droid!

Naa, the Revolution ROM is brand new and very good, for me better as nameless
But this is all old here....

try installing a diffrent rom like Nameless, revolution or Blue HaZe as they are way more stable than slim sense and are still being updated (well revoultion and Blue haze are!)
Right seems like a silly post at first but here me out. First off Im new to HTC but not to rooting I've had the a load of rooted phone and tablets. My concern is loosing warranty when unlocking with HTC dev this has never been a problem on my previous devices. What are your thoughts on this matter?
Root but you will lose warranty to be honest if your only rooting for better performance than theirs no point as the performance of the One is brilliant.

I want to root to allow me to fully theme my device. I create a lot of themes most of which need root and also would like to run a non sense ROM whenever stable releases come out

Root it. I had no problem taking my rooted phone into at&t to get it replaced/fixed. However, I was turned off by rooting as my first rooted phone was the samsung galaxy. Thing sucked. Got the HTC Vivid, One X, One X+ (all unrooted, no real reason to), then got the One and rooted it. Getting rid of all of at&t's and HTC's bloatware were the main reasons.
only reason why i rooted is to get rid of all that nasty att bloat, and to have all ads removed, the phone stock is amazing.
Just do it

DON'T Root if you don't feel comfortable losing your warranty.
You don't lose your warranty with rooting!

If you really wanna do some modifications on your One, just root it and take care.
Root it, there's never been problems with me getting phones repaired when rooted, just make sure you remove the custom ROM

Root 4 ever ...
When i get new phone i say i will not rooted but afther a while (max 2 days) the phone is rooted with custom rom
This is maybe my first device that I haven't rooted from day one of ownership. Currently running it unrooted a week since I got it and I am planning to keep it this way for quite a while.
Ads are pretty annoying in some apps but this is not a reason to root it.
I'm not rooting, at least not anytime soon. I rooted my One X+, which also required unlocking the bootloader. A couple of months later, my display stopped working consistently, but HTC refused my warranty (despite what the earlier post suggests) on the grounds of unauthorized software or something like that. On the bright side, I have the One now.

I rooted to get batt% and the ability to uninstall apps i dont use wich leads to better battery life.
I've exchanged 3 one's while being unlocked thrue htc dev.
If theres a problem flash a stock ruu and recovery and see if the problem persists.
If so the device is running there software so its a fault of the device, when the device is looking like new(no scratches or dents or whatever) they will fix it:thumbup:

Which route did you take to get the percentage? I'm thinking of removing the stock battery indicator altogether and relying on go power master
Last year I rooted my Sprint HTC LTE and lost the ability to watch live TV with the Time Warner app, does anyone know if this will still be the case with the HTC One?

The phone is fast I felt the same way..I rooted it because I hate the 3 dots and to get camera update.. The ability to flash latest ota was reason enough for me.I have kept my rom stock much faster imo and the battery life is good...gunna flash a new update later tonight
