I just recently bought a nexus one from a guy who had custom modded it with CM. I do believe the software as a few issues with the power button and camera function...they do not work. I'm interested to find out if it's possible to format and flash the phone without the power button, or is it possible to use a pc to do so.
Read the wiki (unroot/restore):

You can find the stock ROM (OS) here. Download one to the SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744605
Then Install an app called ROM MANAGER from the android market. This should allow you flash a new ROM without having to manually get into the recovery feature.
The issue with the power button is probably hardware related. You could probably have it repaired for free if you contact HTC/Google. It is probably still under warranty.
You may not want the stock ROM if the power button is broken. CM and many other custom ROMs allow you to turn the screen on/off with with the trackball. The stock ROM does not.
I have also heard that if you remove the battery and place it back in several times in a row, the phone will eventually get 'confused' and power on.
Hope this helps.

I have one of the models which vol+/vol-+home+power combinations doesn't work so I don't have download/recovery modes. Is there any hope for me to flash my phone?
sure you can, but the fact that you even asked this question tells me that you should not be flashing anything until you have learned a lot more about it. take your time and read the stickies in this section and also in the development sections first, then reread them, then watch some youtube videos to see how to do it.
the thing that you NEED to understand is that if you cannot use the 3 button combo to get into recovery mode or download mode you will not be able to recover if a flash goes wrong. if your computer has a hickup or the data cable comes loose at the wrong time your phone will be bricked. end of story.
Jeps! if you read before you do it then you know the risks! there are scripts in the i9000 forum section to make it easy to go into download or recovery mode. But you need to use the search button!

Scripts don't help you if you really bugger up your phone.
Obviously you can flash your phone without 3 button modes, but you're at risk of bricking your phone and needing to send it back to Samsung for service.
Thanks for the replies.
If I somehow successfully flash, will the new rom bring back 3 button combo or is it gone forever?

it will remain disabled, until they release a new ROM that includes the 3 button fix
Samsung did mention on their Canadian facebook page, they will release a software fix for the 3 button disabled issue

First, thanks for the look.
Second, I have read the related threads to this, but none are like my special situation.
Twice I've had to get a warranty replacement for my Captivate after trying to restore from ODIN. Both times, the restore starts, then freezes mid-process. I've let it sit for an hour both times and nothing changes. Frozen. I have no choice but to unplug the USB cable, and remove the battery. The phone is then dead. I mean DEAD. Powered off & completely unresponsive. No power on. Screen doesn't light. "USB device is not recognized" when plugged into a PC w/ drivers. NODA. KAPUT.
I've successfully flashed w/ ODIN before, so I have no idea why certain times it decides to stop.
I'd like to use Clockworkmod to flash in between roms, but after re-flashing I always get the boot loop (AT&T screen is as far as it gets.) I try re-flashing to the original ROM, a backup of the stock ROM. Nothing works.
I REALLY don't want to try and get a 4th warranty phone if this happens again.
I know Clockworkmod requires a compatible ROM, but I've never seen one (Perception, Cognition etc.) that says it is. I know you need a backup of the nanroid, but isn't Clockworkmod supposed to do this?
Can someone straighten me out so I don't get yet another bricked phone?!
Thanks.
EDIT: Basically, I can flash a custom ROM just fine using Clockworkmod. Except when ODIN decides to be a *****, I can flash the stock ROM back, then another custom ROM. I want to flash from one custom ROM to another (or a backup of the stock ROM) without having to rely on a program that's bricked my phone twice!
Thanks again.
had this happen to me one night while trying to change roms. I used ROM Manager to flash back to a stock backup I made and stuck at ATT logo. got the phone into download mode and it would go a little then the screen would turn green or blue or orange, sometimes black and freeze running odin. I just kept at it, leaving the battery out for different intervals, holding volume keys with usb plugged in and then inserting battery. took about 30 tries but it finally took and odin flashed me back to stock. Just don't give up, try try again...you may get lucky

NOTHING like throling auseless thread int he wrong section ... except we ve been politely asked by the admins to stop doing it so I will refrain from doing it ..
to answer you question , it seem like
the usb port/ card or even motherboard , ( might also be a bad usb cable) is at fault here , if you have a jig ( witch I advise you to build one asap if your into flashing roms ) I would never leave my phone plugged in to my pc when somethign is not responding . for example when flashing a kernel or even back to stock I know exatly how long thisi suppose to take and if its hanging I will unplug it and use the jig to go back in download mode and restart again , if your more cautious ten me then dotn , but nothing takes longer then 5 minuttes to flash on your phone so if by 10 minutes i dont work then your screwd so not worth letting your phone drain its battery ..
btw any questions belong in q&A no matther how relevant they are .
Without meaning to be rude, have you consider how reliable the computer you're flashing from is?
If you've seen the same behaviour twice, flashing two separate phones, then it seems likely that there's something specific either to the PC hardware (cables, ports), software (Odin, downloaded ROM, USB drivers) or method (human error of some kind) you're using.
Is there anything about your setup which might interrupt data on the USB line to the phone as it's being flashed?
Hope this helps,
AoN
i read on another forum somewhere that you cannot flash a stock backup from rom manager over a custom rom. that rom manager does not back up the kernel/modem etc...not sure how true it is, but I know the only time this ever happened to me was when I flashed a stock backup from ROM manager over a custom ROM.

For every non-development thread that is posted, one actual relevant thread gets bumped to page two. It hurts development, our at least slows it down.
Of course, that doesn't mean you should be rude or anything.

Also, if you're not doing it already, make sure you plug your USB cable into a USB port that is directly attached to your motherboard. Like the ones in the back. Many people have had issues using the front side USB ports or even going through a USB hub.
Also I guess it's worth it to reinstall drivers and do the normal windows type troubleshooting.
Hi.
I rooted my LG Optimus 2X with Super on click root. It worked great after right after. I uinstalled CarHome and F-Secure, and after that my phone restared.
Now, It would not start. I only boot until the LG logo, and after that it reboot. So it go on and on and on. I can get the phone into ADB, and I'm a newbie on android, so I got no clue what to do. I aslo tried to use the recover program by LG, but I get a message that tells me that my phone does not support the update.
Is there anything that can sovle my problem or do I need to take it to the place I bought my phone?
I had the exact same problem (a hole thread in here). Your phone is bricked (as of now there's no solution as far as I know). When you rooted your phone you lost the warranty, so if unlucky you cannot return it without having to pay to get it fixed... If lucky the might just switch the phone with a new one...
I've sent mine back to the seller and hopefully I'll get a new one...
This thread could be useful for you:
http://android.modaco.com/content/lg-optimus-2x-2x-modaco-com/334664/bricked-lg-optimus-2x/
There's actually new development in the right direction. Paul from modaco (2x.modaco.com) are preparing af NVflash of the 2x, which will completely reflash the memory with the standard rom from stock meaning we should be able to fix the easily...
Should be ready on wednesday...
I've been looking into these two treads, but could not found anything that my fix the problem.
Well, I've got to go to my the seller and hopefully they will fix it fast.
Try to remove the SD card and then try to switch on once more...
I've been trying with and without SD card , Sim card, Battery many times. So I thats not the problem I think
thats why you should freeze apps instead of uninstalling them.
Did you try to hard reset the phone?
If you got an adb connection and root, try to obtain the apk's (search the forum) and push them to system/apps.
Thats all I can think of for now. I'm no expert on this
Did you make a system backup using Clockwork Recovery before you rooted? If so, boot back into recovery and restore the backup. I bricked my phone the first time I installed a different ROM but luckily I had a backup that I was able to restore and try again.

The Optimus 2X does not (yet) have Clockworkmod Recovery working. At least not in a way available to the public (MoDaCo's Paul said he would release some stuff next week)
I can't get it to hard reset. When I boot up the phone I hold in the power button and the - volum butten. Then I come to a screen with the droid, I press the home button and I get Android recovery system (3e), but I'm unable to choose anything. I only can switch between the 4 chooses, by pressing +/- volum button.
Nope, can't get it to connect to adb. Tried, but I couldn't manage it.
Well then maybe someone here can point you to actually selecting something from that list. I mean, it has to be possible to "choose" one of the 4 options but I've never owned an android until (hopefully) in 3 weeks so I can't tell you how it works exactly.
Edit: Just checked the manual again, did you make sure you pressed home and vol- for 10 seconds ?
Well, yes. I pressed home and - volum until I got a recover mode or something.
But as I know theres know way to fix this problem atm. I'll have to send it back to my reseller or wait for Paul to release the fix.
Hey guys,
a friend of mine gave me his Optimus Black. Someone installed a bricked rom on it.
It has some absolutely strange behaviour, cause the Screen doesnt respond in any logical reason.
Sometimes i manage to unlock the screen, but i cant do anything cause the 'hardware'-buttons are not recognized either.
Due to non responsive hardware buttons, i'm unable to enter any kind of recovery...
Volume control does work.
Is there any way i could possibly do sth about this problem?
Will post Screenshots or Video of the Rom later.
Thanks in Advance
Hi, maybe you can use SmartFlash tool and flash a rooted gingerbread rom with a recovery and from there, do a complete wipe then flash a new custom rom. You can refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771. Hope it helps.
Are you sure that the power button is working?
Try to push the battery cover next to the camera flash and press the power button at the same time.
If it works then its a hardware problem .
Seems like it is a Problem with The Touchscreen. Someone changed it and did something wrong, tgread can be closed

I have a SM-N910F Note 4 device and I have been out of the loop for a long time. In fact, I was scammed getting this device as I was told it was a SM-N910T and.... well... I am stuck with this and need to make the best of it. What is a good radio, rom, kernel, etc that I can use to get t-mobile wifi calling on this device?
Also, I reset the defaults on the phone and I now have all 11111111111s for the IMEI so it won't register on the network. It worked before I reset the defaults. I held the volume button down on boot up and the writing is all in Chinese so I don't know how to modify the IMEI so I can use it.
Any suggestions to either issue are helpful. When I was in the loop, I was a strong follower of AOKP and Cyanogen as they felt full featured but true to the source of the ROM and kept it updated. I don't know if these ROMs support T-Mobile WiFi calling or if there is a better, stable, somewhat frequently updated ROM that I should consider now. A simple ported T-Mobile Rom with 4.4+ or 5.0+ is fine. I don't care as long as it's stable and fairly reputable.
Thanks for any help on saving me from a complete loss on this phone, if it just won't work, I will put it up for sale to hopefully recoup some of my lost money back. I can't believe how stupid I was. The box even says 32GB but it has 16GB inside... these guys are good now adays. A hard lesson learned.
Any thoughts on this? Even if I am screwed because of the Chinese writing on the bootload, I would lice to know. I can't get the OS to see the device nor Odin and I downloaded the Samsung Note4 USB drivers.
If I use the up volume+power I get an open android lying down with a red triangle with an ! mark and the message "No Command" under it.... sigh, am I screwed?
You're probably screwed on the IMEI unless you have a nandroid backup. You should download Kies 3 to see if you can use that to flash it. Best of luck.
Hey, thanks rco, I did find that when I pressed the up vol on boot that I could press the power button at the Android laying down open screen and it would give me a Rom manager. It says something like
Android system manager <3e>
And then all the other things like applying from anumber sd card or abd flash, etc. No option to connect to the computer so I can attempt to install Odin and I can't find Odin zipped up In a rom manager installer.
So I tried to install cm 12.x nightly from t0tletmo and got some scatter failure.
Thanks again and to anyone else that has any thoughts to add.
Why is it so difficult to put T-Mobile's WiFi calling app on non-T-mobile devices? The hardware is the same. Is T-Mobile's software hard-coded in the stock T-Mo firmware?
i'm just curious to know if you can use wifi calling overseas in airplane mode for t-mo customers lol
Yes you can, that's one of the reasons why I purchased the T-Mobile variant.

Edit - I just checked and that actually shows on the stock Note 4 recovery. I thought they had changed it.
You dont even have a N910F, I think you have a chinese knockoff. I believe that when you see the "Android System Manager <3e>" is the stock Android AOSP recovery and not the T-Mobile one.
When you hold the volume down and Power and Home are you presented with a screen with 2 options?
Post up some pics for us
