After seeing iPhone apps and trying out a G1 for a while, I'd like to have some of the apps available on these phones on my Tilt. The problem is, I can't find some of the nicer ones available for Windows Mobile.
Netflix App - I'd love to have one of these but from all my searching I can't find one. I know you can browse their website with a browser, but it would be so much nicer to have an application that pulls up just the data I need quickly and easily.
Price Scanning App - I loved this app on the G1. You scan a bardcode and it tells you the product name, gives you reviews, and shows you a list of local prices and online prices for that product.
Yellowpages App - I saw this on on the G1 (and I think it's out for the iPhone too). It's just a yellowpages.com search interface inside an app.
Restaurant Search and Reviews App - Something that either uses GPS or something where I can enter my zip code. Allows me to narrow down restaurants by pricing and type of food. Reviews would be a nice plus.
Webcam App - I had this on my G1 and loved it. I was able to connect to my panasonic webcam and view it by simply launching the app.
Are any of the above available for Windows Mobile?
Windows Mobile has never had such complex apps.
Maybe buy an iPhone or a G1?

Alright, here is my contribution to the XDA society:
Barcorama was found in less than two minutes by using the googlized search option. Just click HERE!
As for your webcam app, you can use orb.com to access more than just your webcam from your PPC, or PDA.
The other ones, I didnt really get too far into looking at, because kidNamedAlbert is right, those are some uber complex precesses.
Remember, also search first and when you feel you just can't find it, search again. Chances are, it's out there.
hope this helps
I don't understand the want or need to have 10 different apps that all search for some very specific thing when one app that can do it all is much more convenient. what if I want to look up a restaurant's number, call them, make a reservation, and then get a map to their? should I have to use 4 different programs to accomplish that, or should I just use one (google maps)? heck, Live Search does all that, AND can also do it with voice recognition. and tell you the weather while you travel.
If you look hard enough you can find all this functionality with existing WM apps, as per above.
Try microsoft's free windows live for what you are looking fore and more. It's fee.
www.wls.live.com
Or even Google maps at www.google.com/mobile.
Enjoy it.

Totally agree!
In addition: GARMIN MOBILE XT in version 5.0 does it all too - has in addition even a CALL DESTINATION feature.
I just do not understand the need of people to have web application 'installed' in their devices! Well, maybe I am getting too old for all that, who knows?
<Damn, now I sound like a smart ass, LOL>
rightio well obviously this phone has built in GPS and i would love to utalize this feature on the road or when generally finding places.
Thing is however the GPS works the maps do not load. i have tried google maps, and they do not load without wifi, same as the google map editor, andnav and also nav4all. None of them show the maps unless they have been pre-loaded via wifi which isnt possible most of the time. I would love for some help with this, if i could save the WHOLE map for the UK that would be great! and be able to access it offline and use it with the GPS.
Any ideas?
Also sorry if its been covered before i did do a search and couldn't find anything
Thanks
Look for "BigPlanet" on Android Market.
there are no results so im guessing its a paid app? i dont really want to spend any cash...

I don't know of any other offline apps for the G1. It works mostly ok, but could have a couple of more features.
PS only costs $3
PPS http://bigplanetmaps.wordpress.com/
Although the engine for bigplanet seems to be available to be licensed for other apps now, so maybe someone will release a freebe.
well i tried downloading it, and i keep getting an error saying my credit card is invalid... i live in the UK and it comes up as $2.99 in the store... plus i know for a fact it is valid, i used it with paypal almost every day, also ATM's and chip and pin in store...
Try emailing the author to see if he has allowed it for all countries...
well i don't understand why it wouldn't be, i haven't used the program to unlock the market... i simply signed up for google checkout so all the apps that aren't allowed for my country shouldn't even show up, should they? well ill e-mail him anyway
AndNav2 can download maps in advance. Zoom the region you would like to download, Menu->Precache (or whatever it was called) and select zoom level. Beware that on the highest two zoom levels you would be downloading hundreds megabytes if you are viewing large area.
i cant find andnav2 in the market though..
So get it from their website!
waze.co.il is working on (a paid) version of FreeMap
They re-written FreeMap to native android .
it should be released soon to the US market. not free, I know but they will eventually release it as free since it is open source.
Their true advantage over most android GPS programs is they offer true offline navigation program (like iGo for WindowsMobile). you download the country file into your device.
Once you did that you can navigate freely. Route calculations are done inside the device and not on some remote server.
users can upload their history routes at home , to fix map errors so it is integrated to public map.
if you have a data plan and agree to expose your location it will ping your location every few minutes and (with more people doing that) they can provide you online traffic jams info.

I think AndNav2 does the same thing, you can download map packs ahead of time and it will upload your GPS traces if you allow it to to improve maps, and probably traffic etc.
You can find interesting things about andnav2 and Bigplanet on droidappz.com
My wife is traveling and I wish to be able to locate her. She's gotten lost twice already and she's traveling for SEVERAL hours from Indian to Minnesota.
She has an AT&T Epix with GPS integrated.
Is there software that I can install on my AT&T Tilt that will allow me to locate her? Her GPS is working, but the Google Maps is a little hard for her to track.
Thanks for your help.
have you tried altenative..
have you tried an alternative or checked this out ,( if so, ignore my suggestions.) as a backup ,if you cannot find what you are looking for ?
the name is the same as your heading..."GPS LOACATION..BY HIGHWAY "
of xda ,found under development and hacking, or try link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549517
example ..your wife could send you sms /email with link , which is just case of selecting, email or sms option on the software tab,
when you receive email , click on relevant link ,and you can see her position on google..? ( you dont have to do no tracking ? it pinpoints you with , street name and no ..)
i find this "gps location application ", very handy (works perfect on my hd )
hope this helps
Google maps with Latitude ?
gpsed
Try gpsed, http://gpsed.com/downloads. Free version allows tracking in as little as 1 minute incrememts. Installs on her phone, she activates and you follow along on any web browser. Works well.
Thanks for the reply. I don't know what happened. I've got my notifications set to INSTANT notifications and I didn't know anyone replied.
Well, she's traveling now and we don't have the option of installing the program. We have AT&T Navigator on her phone, and it's SUPPOSED to be able to SHARE the location, but the AT&T reps who PUSHED this product on us HAVE NO CLUE as to how to make it happen. And tech support hasn't returned my call.
I also want to install a program on my son's phone so that I can track his whereabouts WITHOUT his knowledge as well.
I thought there were programs out there that would allow that.
gpstoday.. www.geoterrestrial.com .. awsome app and will tell you down to the address of where she is.. and you can see her on a map all for free.. you will need to have internet access on the phone though..

Thanks Chris. I'll take a look at it now. My wife and I both have data plans. Is there something to install on EACH phone, or just MY phone since I'm wanting to track her?
Thanks for your help.
i like oldies music, so i listen to kearth 101. now im not sure all the ways that are possible to do this, but what i usually do when im not in my car, is just go to the website. unfortunately i just tried it and it says i need flash =/
how would i go about getting my tunes on my g1? i know theres those streaming apps, like i think its called streamfurious, but i dont know how to find the station on that.
also about how muh battery would doing this kill anyway?
thanks!
well the flash thing can be answered now. if u really want the music u could flash any hero rom as the browser has flash9.
nahh i dont wanna risk a brick.. i already got cyanogens 4.0.4 and stuff.. you know the basics. i dont think im ready/up to/ have time for the hero roms
Do you know their web site address
use streamfurious search option and use the call sign of the station you want then pick "tune in" if your using edge it may take a minute or two to show up on the app.
hope this helps.
K-earth 101 is listed in streamfurious pro. Under CBS stations>Los Angeles.
It'll eat a lot of data if used hour after hour though.

There's no need to use Streamfurious Pro. Here's how you can get it into normal Streamfurious:
1. Install StreamFurious (free) on your phone.
2. Open your phone browser and browse to http://www.thestreamcenter.com/search.asp?name=k-earth
3. Tap on one of the two "listen live" links on the right side. (Try the 64kb one first if your signal is generally good).
4. Choose StreamFurious to handle the intent.
5. The station should then be added into your SF list.
Edit: By the way why not give public radio a try? Expand your mind and social awareness. KPCC is a pretty good station. It's already preprogrammed into SF's database.

it worked! takes FOREVER to load up, but once it gets going its awesome. thanks! and idk maybe i will give that public stuff a try, i'd rather just listen to music though lol
Yo use "Pandora" to stream music. Its definantly a 5 star app and works great on an EDGE connection. Trust me try it, nothing compares.

The only app so far that I have seen that does verbal turn by turn navigation is the TeleNav app, but I really don't want to pay $10 a month for that, and I still have a regual GPS in the car for now, although it does need new maps it work for the time being.
As for turn by turn without verbal cues there are a few ways to accomplish this, one is Bing maps, it will give you turn by turn directions. Also you can create tiles for internet sites like Mapquest, and Google Maps, just open the site in your browser and go to the get directions page, then what I have done is zoom into the logo on the page with the name and in the lower right corner tap the three dots and a menu will appear that gives you the option to "pin to start" which then creates a tile on your start page that links directly to that page and the image on the tile is the zoomed image of the webpage's title where you zoomed in.
Hopefully in the coming months there will be more option for navigation apps, and verbal turn by turn, the OS is still very new and everyday there seem to be many new apps. Time and patience will tell.
