Hey I am from greece, got an optimus 2x. I learned about the ics update downloaded the p990 drivers and the tool for update. I connect the device and it says that a new update is available. Let me say here i change the first option from US into EUROPE. I click update and it loads some stuff and then it says preparing upgrade and after 1 minute or something it says An error occure while connecting to the phone. I have changed usb ports uninstalled and installed the p990 drivers etc etc. restarted the pc as well... but keep gettin the same error.. anyone got any idea to help me out?
Try PC Suite IV, or launch Support Tool manually. Still won't update

Try using PC Suite IV if you aren't already. I had to disconnect my phone from usb, reconnect, then immediately hit connect on the PC Suite to get it to work.
If it still doesn't, just run the Mobile Support Tool on its own. You may have to turn off&on debugging mode on your phone before it will read the version and model.
I still can't update though. PC Suite tells me there is an update, while Support Tool tells me there isn't. Below is a picture to show what I think is the Support Tool half thinking my phone is already V30A. Any Ideas? Maybe I've made a first-time noob mistake

How To Update To V30A/ICS on O2X/Optimus 2x/P990
Alright then...I got my O2X updated and it was not easy. I'll try and provide the best steps I can. THIS IS NOT A CUSTOM FIRMWARE. I thought it was too, until I saw the LG R&D tool at the end of all this...
UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS - If you are in the process of doing this, check the new step 4
1. Get the All-In-One tool and extract it somewhere.
-I suggest doing a backup if you haven't already. Run this tool to do so - it has a program that will compress your internal/external sd for you.
+I used MyBackup (on market) to backup and restore all my data.
2. Download: V30A from here
3. Make sure there is at least 1 free line at the end of your hosts file (GIYF if you don't know what it is).
4. Set the lock delay/screen timeout on the phone to 30 minutes and make sure it isn't in USB mass storage mode. Stops the driver failing
5. Run the LG Update Tool through "P990-Toolkit.cmd" (located where you extracted all-in-one tool) - option 6.
-If it fails when you press "Normal web upgrade test" in the R&D tool - either your hosts file is wrong or the apache server didnt set itself up right.
+Make sure you added that free line in your hosts file. Otherwise, fix the details the program added (will be at end of last non-free line)
+I don't know what you can do in the second case other than setup your own apache server which is what I did (I had one).
-If it fails at around 6% with a device not connected error, DO NOT DO STEP 10 IN THE DOCUMENT. Very high chance of bricking.
+Make sure you set the lock delay/screen timeout to 30 mins and that the phone isn't in mass storage mode.
6. Wait about 10-15 mins. Don't worry - it does take a while to reboot afterwards.
7. On my behalf, enjoy the update and dont complain about it the second you see lag or something else ridiculous like that.
-If you do have a problem, search the forum. Like the intro video says, your probably not special
Proof that it works:

It will work in India, intact I'd say it will work anywhere (don't blame me if you are outside Europe and it fails though ). As for the Bricking fear, you simply won't brick it doing this. The program used to flash the device in this method is an official LG program so it is very reliable. I had the same fear at the time as well, so don't worry.

As far as I remember reading, you must turn off UAC on windows and be in an administrator account. This looks like what may be wrong since the error you got was "permission denied".
As for the hosts file, go into c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and open the file "hosts" with notepad. Then just make sure there is at least one free line at the bottom of it.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you need more help.
Sent from my LG-P990 running ICS using xda app-developers app
Thanks
Thanks m1cr0man, for the quick and positive response...will let you know after flashing it how it works.....

Thanks a lot for your help, nonetheless, the error still appears
This is what I did: I edited the host file to add that line at the bottom with notepad and since it only let me save a .txt file I deleted the extension and replaced the original file.
Then I deactivated User Account Control and rebooted, I'm using an Administrator account but the error still appears.
I attached the three screens I get after choosing option 6 in the ToolKit.
I guess I'm still a noob after all..
Edit: I followed the file where the error was held and took a look of it with Notepad++ (see attachment 4) and that error took me to the lines that were going to edit the host file to add this one: "127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com", so I tried to do it myself manually, I added that line in the host file and it worked! But, (yeah, there's still a but), when I got to the end of everything, just when it went off to install the update, the program told me that the battery level of my phone was too low and that I must charge it first I had 43% of battery left. Haha, but yeah, at least it's working, I'm going to give it a shot after the phone is done charging, wish me luck!

First of all the error you get is not a script error but a runtime error, meaning that something in your PC is wrong.
Since I wrote that script and I know what it does, do NOT forget to re-edit the hosts file after and remove the line, because csmg.lgmobile.com will always be off-line for you.
It is needed only for the LG tool to flash a kdz file off-line without checking LG database.
Good luck and let me know.

Glad to see you got that fixed Let us know how it gets on after flashing.
It all went alright but then at 6% the phone turned on itself to the lockscreen and the program asked me to unplug it, remove the battery, put it back on and turn on the phone, I did what the instructions said, I went to Software Update mode by power on pressing vol-, as a result, everything was fine until 80% when it gave me back the same error, so now my phone is kinda of bricked, it just shows a LG logo and then an opened dead android, lol. I'm downloading NVflash, gonna use it for the first time, hopefully everything goes well so I can try the update again.
This is the whole update log:

It all went alright but then at 6% the phone turned on itself to the lockscreen and the program asked me to unplug it, remove the battery, put it back on and turn on the phone, I did what the instructions said, I went to Software Update mode by power on pressing vol-, as a result, everything was fine until 80% when it gave me back the same error, so now my phone is kinda of bricked, it just shows a LG logo and then an opened dead android, lol. I'm downloading NVflash, gonna use it for the first time, hopefully everything goes well so I can try the update again.

...How did you manage to choose option 3 or option 2 instead of option 6 (LG Update Tool) when I clearly stated option 6?
4. Run the LG Update Tool through "P990-Toolkit.cmd" (located where you extracted all-in-one tool) - option 6.

Either way, you just tried to install NVFlash on your phone and failed (option 2/3), instead of updating to ICS. I have no idea what to do to fix that, so you're on your own for now if what you are trying doesn't work.
EDIT: Ok, now I'm really confused. If you got that log you did choose option 6, but it should not and will not ask you to take out the battery and hold down the recovery buttons. You either clicked another option aswell or...i dont know what else.

I chose option 6, of course, I clearly remember that, option 6, then it told me some advices and told me to click any key to continue so I did.
Why do you mean I tried to install NVflash on my phone? I have followed every indication step by step.
What I said is that I'm downloading NVflash now to unblick my phone and try the update to ICS again using the Toolkit.
I really appreciate all the help people here have gave me, thank you.

Man, I was scared a little when you said that you had no idea how to fix that, I thought my phone was dead for good, now I can breathe again.
The vol- down stuff was an instruction from the Office Word document that opened to guide through the update, it says: "10. Wait until it finishes. If it gives any message that the phone is not connected or something like that, disconnect it, turn it off, remove battery and plug it back holding "Volume Down" key. (Automatically goes to Upgrade mode)."

Hmm ok. My point is that it should not have asked you to do the unplug and software update mode stuff - I only got that when I was rooting it. Either way, sorry it bricked. It should not have done that.
EDIT: OOOH RIIIITE. Step 10 . I didn't have to do that - no message to say it wasn't connected. Hmm, it might be associated with the fact that I set the screen lock delay to 30 mins before hand. Try that when you are doing it again. I'll include it in the instructions post also.
It looks like even that it didn't go to 100% I'm on the new partition layout because my phone shows a Red LG Logo and the nvflash kit tool didn't rescue it, I'm downloading the Tool Kit for ICS to try it out, 30 more minutes before the download finishes.
Edit: Alright, using this NVflash toolkit for ICS I went back to old partition layout and flashed my old Rom, I'm so happy, my phone is alive again. Alright, now I'm going to set the 30min lock time and try to update to ICS again
Edit 2: I tried updating again, the same thing happened, had to use NVflash to restore my phone again, I'm gonna try to update another day using a different pc, maybe it will work, thanks a lot m1cr0man, i really appreciate all your help.

Thank you very much
I am from Portugal and it worked like a charm
I have the ghost call bug on LG Thrill ICS, and I read flashing back to froyo will fix it. That would be great if I could flash back to froyo. I found out I am no longer able to flash my phone with LG Flash Tools (in the LG Update Package), the official up to date LG Mobile Update program, and with the LG Flash tool (which flashes .bin and .fls files).
The symptoms of not working are:
Lg Flash Tools: The updater fails on 5% because of Page_Error ºÎºÐÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
I suspect this doesn't work because I have a custom bootloader from the All-In-One Package that shows the Silver LG Fastboot Logo instead of the standard red logo. I have already tried using the recover update trick used to solve the page error I read in a different post. This leads into the next symptom.
LG Mobile Update: This freezes on 4% and has no log of why it won't work. I can only perform the recover phone mode as the tool now recognizes I have updated the phone (which it only recognized that it is up to date after I flashed the custom bootloader).
LG Flash Tool: This tool as the others used to flash but it now just counts the time and doesn't increase the flash percentage at all. I have tried both the P920 and the P925 dll and they both have the same result.
The flashing methods described above don't make any visible changes to my phone (or any changes at all). I have tried wiping the x-loader and the u-boot via fastboot to find I can't boot into s/w mode without reflashing those back. I have not tried wiping the whole phone because I am tired of bricking my phone over and over and I don't have the files in fastboot ready format to flash back anyway. I couldn't figure out how to back up my whole phone via fastboot (and I can't go around this problem for the baseband because their is no radio partition).
I have Googled and messed with my phone a week and since I am desperate to fix this ghost call bug I decided to not wait any longer before asking for help. Can someone please help me fix my flashing problem so I can go to froyo to fix the ghost call bug. I have froyo in kdz format and in .bin/.fls formats (baseband and .bin). I used both the s/w and the lg software option of starting an update for flashing. I remembered I forgot to tell you I also tried resetting the tools on the computer and followed the instructions to the letter to get rid of any configuration problems that may have occurred.
I will press the thanks button for the first of those who help me solve my dilemma, even if I have to pull the solution from multiple answerers.
Bonus: As an extra bonus, what can I do to write directly to and read directly from the phone's flash chip so when I get my upgrade in March, I can retire my phone to OS development.

Forget LG updater, it is no good. The reason LG Flash tool did not work for you is likely due to incorrect driver install.

And ghost call bug is from having the wrong .fls (baseband) for your area.

The answer to my part of problem is to plug in the phone after clicking the yellow arrow. Now I just need an expert to tell me what baseband is best for the maximum coverage (the most frequencies), works with AT&T 4G, 3G, etc..., works with the LG Thrill 4G (P925) with the official ICS of version v30b. and is made for America. I currently flashed the baseband from http://d-h.st/dxl to see how well it works over the next day to the next few days. It currently displays one bar as it always did and appears to have the same version as what I had before, but I don't know if the baseband version name is hard coded into the stock rom.
The baseband I tried is not the correct one

The baseband I mentioned flashing in this post is not the one I am looking for because I have the ghost call problems again. I have created a list of basebands not to use for this purpose and (hopefully) later on I will specify which one does work.
Basebands to not use:
http://d-h.st/dxl
Basebands to use:
Unknown
What is the baseband for:
Frequencies | Carrier | Networks (4G, 3G, Edge, etc...), Phone | Phone Model Number | Android Type (ICS, Jellybean, Gingerbread), Android Version (v30b) | Baseband Version | Country Made For (or at least where it works well)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
? | AT&T | 4G, 3G, Edge, Cell | LG Thrill | P925 | OMAP4430/XMM6260 | ICS | v30b | ?
I added this chart because this is the kind of data baseband hunters are looking for. I hope someone uses this to create a thread to elaborate on this. Download links are optional on the chart.
Use the baseband included in the rooted v28B download and you should be golden. I do not know what files from other sources will do.
BTW you connect phone and [/I]then press the arrow

Never mind, you are correct and I am sleepy Yellow arrow, then connect phone.
The baseband is from the large partition of v28.

The baseband I used came from the thread you linked, but it appears to be the same baseband I originally had. I used the large partition link so I will try others from the thread.
P925G baseband file is here

It should work ok with v30B. This is the one I use with his v30C ROM...
What to do?
My phone still has ghost call, but maybe it is because of the dead zone the at&t coverage map shows. I know the ghost call exists because I checked the symptoms and my phone wasn't reliable when I was traveling. I am going to test out froyo now that I can flash again, but if that doesn't work, then it is because of the dead zone.
I won't flash froyo tonight because I will need my phone tomorrow, and according to the coverage map I should have hardly any signal even though I have not tested it with another person's phone yet. I will work on it this weekend.
More Edits:
I just flashed the gingerbread from the LG Optimus 3D, as I could only find this and that is because I already had it (I don't remember why). It had the same issues as ICS about the cell signal even though it is a little bit better, so it is probably the area I live in (however it used to work and my phone is the only phone affected).
I tested the phone this weekend and it now picks up signal very well even though it didn't before. It just isn't as powerful as other phones in the same area so if this is a hardware issue, the question is solved, but if this is a software issue, then anyone who knows why it doesn't pick up signal as well and/or can solve this issue please post why or how this happens or to fix it.
I decided to mark this thread as solved even though I determined this as a software issue, since I decided I no longer care as long as I have sufficient signal. By March I can retire this phone to OS development and see if I can bring some new life to it. I expect to see myself making new threads about the structure of the phone drive and kdz making along at xda as well as learning arm processor assembly (with the x86 bit assembly I am currently learning) on osdev.org around that time of year.
