Hello!
I have used Apps2SD Script included with G.O.T Recovery to partition and set up Apps2SD on my Milestone. Upon reboot everything works fine except that I can't launch two paid apps, namely: Got To Do and MountUSB. They were installed from Market but in place of the icon and name I get default icon (Droid's head on white background) and com.slamjibe.... and upon launching it I get FC. Can anyone help me?
contact the developper of these apps ask them support for apps2sd , many dev havent updated there apps for it ...
Hmm, I'm having this problem as well with apps not installing correctly.

Which Apps2SD option did you guys use from the G.O.T. menu? I am using the "Symlink Edition" and it is working fine so far.

hi dsixda, I used just the plain and simple App2SD install I couldn't find a clear explination of the differences between just app2sd and the symlink version, if you have the chance, of if you are willing to could you please try to install Horoscope and Tarot by horoscope.com I know bad example app but its one that I remember off the top of my head. (GF just wont get off my tip about this one....)

Yeah that horoscope app runs fine for me! Basically the "symlink edition" of Apps2SD just changes the location of the /data/app and /data/app-private folders to the EXT2 partition on the SD card.

Just do a Titanium Backup of all your current data, do a Nandroid backup, then reflash the ROM without apps2sd.
Then, restore with Titanium, make sure all your apps are on your device, and then finally apply the symlink edition of Apps2sd... It will move them all.
Kk so instead of doing a titanium back up, I did a full wipe, replashed, re nandroid'ed, re formatted my sd card, and installed the syslink or symlink app2sd and everything works perfectly now
Thanks you guys

Check the available memory in the Settings menu, it should be higher now. Or just use adb, go into /data and do an "ls -l". The app folder should point to another folder. Also, in Root Explorer the app folder should now show the size remaining proportional to your ext2 partition.
I have actually modified an existing script so that now even the /data/dalvik-cache is moved to sd. I have freed up over 30MB more now. I can attach it later.
Apps2SD script
Here's a script that takes your apps to the SD card, and also links the /data/dalvik-cache there. With a newly flashed Milestone you should see at least 190MB free.
Just unzip this under /sdcard/OpenRecovey/scripts. Launch it from OpenRecovery, using the menu option Miscellaneous-->Run script-->install_apps2sh.sh..
NOTE: Make sure your /system/bin/mot_boot_mode is either the stock one or the one that GOT's OpenRecovery added. Otherwise the script will not work.
My script is based on another APPS2SD script, but I changed it so that it doesn't overwrite the modified mot_boot_mode file that GOT's OpenRecovery had added when you do overclocking, memhack, etc. (if it's not there then it will add it).

Hi , thanks for the response, just to clarify, after rooting with got's open recovery and flashed v2a roms, i splited my sd card thru the got's open recovery program and install the symlik edition of app2sd, indeed my memory from 16x became 194, but when i install some program, some space were taken up i think, it appear to be 189 now, i installed launcherpro and a few stuff, so i can assume that my app2sd is working and it is just because some program cant support to install to sd right? Sorry for my bad english.

It's probably because of the stuff stored under /data/data (application data, not the apps themselves). I have the same issue too. You can try to make a symlink to move them your sd card, but it actually slows down your apps when u run them, even with a high-speed / Class 6 SD card.

NO.... It's application DATA that's taking up space, not the apps themselves. Not much you can do about it. It's normal. The symlink method would have moved your apps to the SD card automatically.

Ok thank you very much, solved my doubts, Thanks to all who helped.
i followed this, copied the zip, flashed it and ran a2sd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116
i read that cm6 doesnt support a2sd until the next version... but this appears to be working.
is it just dumb luck for now and i'll regret doing this? or is it safe to leave.
sorry forgot to add that i did obvioulsy partition my sd card for a2sd when i installed cm6
Yes, it is safe to use.
Nandroid first and you can commit a lot of sins...
strange. since i installed and used this my market app installs are failing
download works, install fails. 6/6 tries
I've had some trouble with CM 6.1 because I haven't been able to install certain kind of apps; first the restore failed with Titanium Backup, so I tried on the market, but that was unsuccessful too.
What seemed to solve the problem in 6.1 was telling in CM settings to install directly on the phone (CM Settings->Application Settings -> Install location-->Internal).
Now that I've got 6.1.1 the problem is back, and the previouse fix does not work. I can't seem to get back on the phone apps like StumbleUpon and SDMove.
I don't know what the problem is since everything worked in 6.0.
Anyone has any clues?
Thanks in advance
Do you have DarkTremor's apps2SD installed? If not, what always worked for me was to unmount the SD, install the app, remount the SD and then use froyo apps2SD to move it.
I am having the same problem but have DarkTremor's apps2SD and can't unmount the SD so I don't know what to do now.

Unmounting worked!
Well, thanks a lot.
But still, this is really annoying. I mean, I should be able to install without the need to unmount/remount every time!
Yeah it's really annoying now that unmounting isn't a possibility but no one seems to have an answer why this happens in either case.
I suspect it has something to do with the way the app wants to install. One developer I talked to mentioned that apps that want to install directly to SD have this issue and this is why unmounting works, it forces the app to install to internal memory. With DarkTremors though this is no longer possible so I don't know what to do.
I know it was discussed a lot, but since things are constantly being updated i can't get a hold of what is working at the moment. I will be brief.
16 GB SD card, First partition is primary 14 GB FAT32, second partition is ext3 1 GB.
I am using Cyanogenmod 7 7.2.0 RC1 on Motorola Milestone. I also have androidiani open recovery and kabaldan's mmcfix module installed.
After the partitioning was complete (in card reader) i returned the SD card in the phone and booted to open recovery where I formated all caches and factory restored CM7 everything is clean.
Questions:
1. When I launch File Explorer (the one within the rom) SD-EXT on root is empty, no folders or anything, but if I launch terminal emulator and cd sd-ext then ls there they are. Why?
2. I play couple of memory intensive games (like Dead Space and GTA3), but since I have only 256 mb ram they often crash (without error) when loading a level or saved game (yes I have chainfire3D). Will moving dalvik cache and cache to sd-ext help free more ram so I can crash less?
3. What is the point of moving dalvik and cache to sd-ext and where can I find a guide how to do it?
Thanks.

1) The File Manager bundled with CM7 doesn't have ROOT access, which is required to read the files on /sd-ext. Try using Root Explorer, for example.
2) No, it won't. What will probably help you is to disable JIT (gives you more free RAM), install V6 Supercharger by zeppelinrox (reorganizes how RAM is used) and remove ChainFire3D (it only helps if you reduce the texture quality to 16-bits, otherwise it's just one more layer between your apps and the GPU).
3) The point of using sd-ext is to overcome the storage limitations of the Milestone (not its RAM limitations), allowing you to install more apps without using app2sd (which renders apps on the SD unusable when you plug the device to a computer).
I hope it helps (=
Disabling surface dithering also helps.
I tried 7.2.0-RC2 without V6 and it works great, plus no more side effects, like Maps "forgetting" pre-cached areas =D
Hi. I followed pontomedon's guide to partition my 8GB card with OpenRecovery (parted & tune2fs). So I got 1 GB ext3. And installed CyanogenMod 7.2.2.
But in the CM Settings "Use internal storage" is grayed out and says "This device doesn't have expanded internal storage". Has something gone wrong? What's the best way to confirm that SD ext is working?
If ext would work, would the phone's memory still be used fully first, and SD ext only after that, or how does it go? I've now set Install location to "Internal".
I've heard of S2E (simple2ext) app, maybe I'll try it next.

Your storage as in FAT partition on sdcard is working?
You can "mount | grep sd-ext" and "df /sd-ext" to check if sd-ext is mounted and how much space it has.
sd-ext is treated as internal memory. All user installed apps are moved to ext partition. Internal storage (data) is used for app data (configuration, etc.)
Thanks. Why does it show it as ext4. 8% is used... I guess it's working after all. Now let's install some games!
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext4 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,data=ordered)
Filesystem /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 1K-blocks 936666 Used 70298 Available 816397 Use% 8% Mounted on /sd-ext
I installed Root Browser Lite and it shows the installed apps in sd-ext, also Dalvik-cache for those apps is there, which is good I think.
how to format?

Hi, my question is very close to this topic : when I try to install another rom I got all the old applications coming from the previous install. Is there a way to format the ext 2 in the same time we update or change CM?
Thx
Use -FuFu-'s MiniMod Recovery - it has an extended wipe menu, including ext-wipe.

With 2ndbootOR you can use "wipe_ext2.sh" from MiniMod by -FuFu, or any other script. Just copy file to "scripts" folder.
FuFu's latest OR is based on the 2ndbootOR, so it does everything the 2ndbootOR does, but it also has additional scripts. So it really worth a try.
Thx I'll update my second phone (I have not seen these answers before)

Hello guys.
My problem is, that my memory is full, so I made a 2GB FAT32 partition for my stuff on my SD, and tried to use Link2SD.
But when I'm trying to link application files, dalvik-cache files, library files, I get an error message:
Failure
pkg: ...apk
Failure
[INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICENT_STORAGE]
The funny thing is, that for some apps, it worked. But I would be happy, If I could move for example facebook, messenger app, because they are more than 10-15MB!
Earlier I tried with an EXT3 partition, but It also didn't work.
I am using rohan007's latest CM10.1 ROM.
If the problem is with Link2SD what alternative solution I could use for moving an app with its data?
Hmm. I ODEXed my phone with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156287 , and now it is working!
just backup your sd card
format it
partition it , creating a ext partition of required size
mount it
reboot to rom
in link2sd select mount script as ext4
