How do you spell HD7? HD 7? - HD7 General

It is really bothering me, what is the official spelling? If you Google "HTC HD7" you get 9,190,000 results, but "HTC HD 7" 5,820,000 results.
The reason I am bringing this up is because if you are on a cretin site looking for something weather it be accessories or troubleshooting help and your not on here (90% of the time I am here for help) you get different results for both searches, I guess we are stuck with having to do two searches?
EDIT
Having to do two searches creates double the work when looking for something depending on how much search results there are for both spellings.

HD7.

can I vent here? WHAT SEARCH!!!???

ok - I am not given to fits of anger or anything but this has really gotten me to a boil:
THE SEARCHING FUNCTIONALITY IN THESE FORUMS IS PATHETIC!
phew - sorry but I really needed to get that off my chest...
it seems more the norm than the exception that forums have ridiculously inadequate search functions but this one takes the cake!
I understand all the "search the forums" "read this thread:" etc comments from the veterans that see the same question asked time and again but hey - YOU try searching for something in a million posts with a search that brings up either EVERY post under the sun or NONE!
it's like trying to read through all of these just to find one thing!
I know there's nothing that anyone will do about this, but I just HAD TO VENT!

an easier way to do that is....
in google just type what you want to search for and add site:forum.xda-developers.com
ie: 'voip sip settings site:forum.xda-developers.com'
that works for me because i like to minimize clicking
p.s. the blame should be put on vbulletin
search works just fine when i use it
I used the Search ones to find my car keys... and it couldn't find them .. The search SUCKS!

LOL, but seriously this is sort of a nuisance. Trying to search os.nb to find all info about this format and nothing comes up. Thanks @ TaurusBullba for that method of search. Give google a few years and they'll even be able to find that chic you hooked up with during Spring Break 7 years ago
how do i search a specific phrase? quotation marks seems to have no effect here on this forum's search!! like:
"gprs stays on"
i would get results with GPRS, or some posts where says STAYS or even ON !!! i can't get it to return specific searches returning only posts where it returns results with the entire quote (yes i know there is google, but i'm sure that option is here on the forum's search or is it?)

lol you obviously didnt read carefully what i said, i know about Taurusbulba's post on page one, i'm saying was there anyway to do it without using google to search within forum.xda-developers.com and only using the forum's original search engine to do exact phrase searches.

There is a limitation within the forum's native site search. It is what it is. However, the admin is aware of the MANY requests from users and moderators alike regarding the, often times, poor search results.
If the forum's search code is changed to make the search results more relevant, it will definitely be conveyed to everyone on the front page, I'm sure.
In the meantime, the best way to get what you're looking for is to use Google search. You may want to bookmark this to make getting to it a bit quicker.
Mike has also been generous enough to sticky Google's search links in many forums here already too.

Kaiser Software: Learning The Ropes

Hello all. I am a newbie, exciting as that sounds! Anyways, this is my out cry, possibly to some of the major contributors (if possible), maybe even some of the ROM developers out their. My goal is simple...making your life easier, and less stressful with us newbies.
Anyways, here is what I would like to contribute to the forum. I would like to write up a Wiki of free software, and how to install and so forth for XDA-Developers. I would gladly take control of this, link to the downloads and so forth, but would like some help from the seniors here, since I don't really know a ton about this stuff. However, from what I see here (daily for about 4 months) is that generally, the major issues are finding software and what it actually does, and I think this could help a ton! Let me know through PM or this thread if you are interested in helping me out, as well as helping a lot of people out, I would think. I do know the current Wiki does provide a tools review section, but I think a general link location, title, version, release date and brief description page would be helpful.
Much of that work has already been done in the existing Kaiser Wiki. I'm sure that if you wanted to maintain a matrix of software, installation instructions, version numbers, etc. and keep it updated, the powers that be would consider it a worthwhile addition. As for links to the software, many (most?) are already on the Wiki.
i think its a good idea but most of which are already on either the wiki's or stickies...as well as other threads in other sections...much of this wont be needed of people just searched and dig a bit deeper than one page of reading...a lot of answers are out there just need to search harder or refine the search
I do live a lot by the wiki, I just find it to be a bit clumsy, since it is VERY overwhelming, especially from a new person stand point. I was thinking of a simple page, that listed the following, work in progress, let me know what others think first.

Would it be big? Probably, but I think it could be very helpful as well.
here's a good place to start:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Must_have_tools
this is linked from the hermes wiki, but most of the software will work on the kaiser too. try looking at the wikis of other devices, and also looking in the software subforum, you will get a good idea of wat ppl use on their kaisers
thanks that is very helpful. This is pretty much what I am looking to start/add to. Let me start working on some stuff and prototype it, also, if I could get some information from some developers, if you do work, and see this post, post me to your stuff, directly with some brief descriptions of it, so I can start looking at it. Thanks all!
this is what I was thinking

And so on, kind of an easy format to update and fix up
Don't forget to add classifications. I'd even go so far as to think of this as a searchable database or at least a spreadsheet that can managed as a filtered list. You're looking at dozens of apps to keep track of. From an admin standpoint you'll want to track the last date YOU updated the info as well.
I've done similar projects for companies....it's a pain to manage in a text file.
I like the spreadsheet idea, I think I already have to many other websites being worked on to add another DB to the picture I was also thinking about wiki'ing it as well, which probably would not look pretty in a spreadsheet, but who knows.
Its an excellent idea. I agree with you that it is already available but not in the format you plan on doing.
+1 for the idea; ideal for newcomers and/or folks who have been out of touch for a time.
As for those whe are saying that all this is already available in one form or another: very true, but when you have to dig through hundreds upon hundreds of threads then other hundreds of pages within the thread... Yes, searching, but you have to know what to search for. A vague idea of desired functionality helps, but what if you don't even know of something that could potentially be a life-line for you?
you should probley put in screen shots too. Ya know to make it easier on everyone.
This is an awesome idea. What i really hate is when someone posts a thread full of cabs but with no explanatation as to what they actually do. The worst i find is with all the HTC apps. page after page of "HTC camera", "HTC album", "HTC action screen", it isn't exactly easy to tell from the name what a lot of them do.
ok well we will see you when you're done and I'm sure that will be a couple of years.

I definetly think screen shots would be nice. Sometimes form is just as necessary as function and I'd like to see what I'm going to be working with / not working with.
spring cleaning
I say this site needs some spring cleaning since there's no many versions of this and that to the point it takes lots of time digging and finding whats best for everyone

This already exists. It's been linked in the wiki for ages. In the 'Downloads' section, there are links to external freeware pocketpc sites, which include descriptions and multiple screenshots per application.
Y'all just need to browse the wiki more often and when you find something, link it to the wiki, so it *CAN* be easily found in the future for others.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Can we get separate subforums for different models?

I have a 7" Kindle Fire HD, now say I want to find a rom, root method or anything else for it, this would be easy if there weren't multiple iterations of the 7" Kindle Fire HD. More specifically I have what's known as the KFSOWI... you might see another name, "Soho"... or you might call it the 2013 model... or maybe you call it the 2nd gen model. That's 4 names I need to look for in a thread just to find if it's even relevant to my device, if I see something like "Tate", "SD card slot", or "Camera" I know I can get out of there as that thread is for a different device that has no compatibility when it comes to these roms.
So, my question is: Can we split the Kindle Fire HD 7" subforums into more specific subforums that indicate which device you're actually posting about?
I can look at other stuff around here and find info specifically for my Verizon Galaxy S4, there's a subforum for each carrier for that phone, and it's not lumped together with another model. Amazon may be a bit to blame here with the Apple-like naming, but at the same time it's not that hard to make a different subforum for a new device. Imagine if you were to go looking for anything about modding iPods and you found a website where there were only a few categories involving products with different names "iPod Classic (all generations)", "iPod Touch (all generations)" and no standard tagging system to identify which model a post is talking about, you just had to keep reading until you found something that identified which device it was talking about.
My point is that it's frustrating for no good reason, we have multiple devices that share the same name and same subforum but are not the same devices.

Fire 7" (7th Gen): Rooting solutions and modifications anyone??

Hi all,
I just purchased 6 cyber monday 7" fire tablets. Think I paid $30/ a pop. I did so with the expectation of modifying them all for my kids. My hope is that I can maximize the hardware purchase by rooting the tablets, but realized, as of this post, that there are no known solutions on OS version 5.4 (which is how they shipped) or 5.6 which is what they update to almost immediately when connected to wifi. Given the price I am confident that a ton of these were purchased and am therefore hopeful that a solution to the rooting dilemma will be found with the large demand out there.
I thought I would post, to create a location for the latest information on rooting the device, and to hear from others out there who may be in the same position. I'd like to find out what others are doing to mitigate the limitations of the Fire OS until a root solution is found (if it is even possible...as I have little knowledge in the field of hacking). For me personally, I find the biggest drawback is not being able to connect (fully) to Chrome. The main perks for me being gmail, calendar, all bookmarks. I think I could live with the cumbersome Fire interface if I could access Chrome. Conversely, I think these tablets will eventually become paperweights if I can't make them more Android like.
I have been using it to video stream and watch MP4's while in bed, with an external bose bluetooth speaker of course (the onboard speaker is a dog). I also am using it as my main kindle reader, replacing a Kindle 3 wifi that recently blew its screen. I will have to get more out of it if my children, who are android phone and chromebook users, are to find it useful.
Let's hear what others are doing and if anyone has gotten wind of solutions being worked on.

I accept the rules of the forum but do have the same questions, reading since hours and do not have a final glue as well.
This might be a good starting point:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/help-thread-7th-gen-2017ask-question-t3636919
There are hundreds of threads mixed different kind of devices 7'' 8'' 10'' GEN5 ,6,7...
For a beginner with the device this is a quite confusing situation, so if some one has a hint or link where to start to read - all help is very welcomed.

Sounds like you scored an early build 5th gen device (likely 18-24 months old). Not many of those pups around!
No need to root or even boot up FireOS v5. You can launch TWRP directly from fastboot and immediately install the custom ROM of your choosing (likely Fire Nexus or Lineage 12.1).
so how do i launch twrp? and I can choose ANY rom?

Help for the Helpless Kindle Fire HD 7" 2012

Folks be gentle,
I am very new to the Android community as I have used IOS for nearly every aspect of my day to day life. I have an older Kindle Fire HD 7" that I purchased back in 2012 to use on deployments overseas with the military.
I have not used it in probably 4 years or more and would love to get something out of it. My first instinct was to see if I could load a Linux based OS on it but I am running into issues since its such an old model It seems like most of the literature is out of date and links do not work. I was interested in Ubuntu touch (looks very promising)
I am certainly not lazy but I am just not finding the right info. I see that TWRP is necessary to do this as well as rooting the device.
I am an IT Professional and I am lost in this realm as there is so much ubiquitous information out there that often leads to dead ends and frustration.
I have read about using Apk's and using the ess file system, to load the root but that seems to never work (parsing error).
The point of the project is to get some use out of a nice piece of tech that is perfectly usable and not toss it on the trash heap or into a thrift store somewhere. If that is possible I would love to get some help here from some of the experts.
I am begging for some help. Anything you can offer up: links, leads, files, whatever is beneficial at this point. I feel like something that should be so easy is making me crazy lol.
This thread has everything you need to know about getting TWRP installed. It links to other threads, and within those threads some of the links are broken. Just go to the last couple pages of those threads and you might be able to find somebody who rehosted them. If you decide to install an Android ROM, crDroid is the latest/most up-to-date. Good luck.
