[Q] Is WP7 tethering really impossible? - HD7 General

Is WP7 tethering really impossible? Or is there some clever developer who can figure this out?

Just to clarify, I am know Samsung devices can usb-tether, but I am wondering about Wifi tethering for WP7, specifically, the HD7...

I can confirm that the LG Quantum can tether .....

Wow! What tethering app is that? Is it in the market or homebrew?

Tethering with Azilink

Azilink is my favorite tethering app on the moment which I'll be selling and switching for a Vogue (so I can have money to buy an Evo in the future ). Has anyone tried it to see if it works? I like it better than the other options (pdanet, etc.) and it's completely free
you started a thread just to tell us wich teather app you like best? I think there are already a thread for tethering
EDIT: Oh your selling a tether app?

PS3 exploit on android

I'm sure a lot of you guys have heard about the PS3 exploit that allows you to run homebrew, I read on endgadget that it was ported to some smart phones. I think it was a pre and some Nokia I had never heard of. I would be willing to pay to have someone port that over to Android. That would be awesome, I wonder if it would be device specific ? Or somebody could be real nice and do it for free, maybe make it an app and run adds.

It's already being worked on, and is almost complete as I understand it.
Already done. http://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One

[Q] Suggestions on a new phone for tethering the NC?

Been on Verizon for several years without problems. Have used several types of phones up to now (Motorola Krave ZN4). As the NC most likely will not enjoy the benefits of 3G (or 4G) the logical solution is phone upgrade to allow a good consistent tether when WiFi is unavailable.
So, any suggestions based on experience on type/brand/model phone compatible with Verizon service? What to look for? Tethering protocols?
thanks
Any phone with Android+root+Wifi+adhoc support should work. just choose if u need 3g or 4g.
basically what he just said. I have a Droid 1 and (with a "fix") am able to tether no problem with it, and that's the first android 2.0 device. I know Droid X works fine, and any other android really should work fine as long as its, as he said, rootable (basically) 4G will cost you more monthly (I think 10 more) but is faster, 3g is good enough IMO.
Any will do, I use an evo but they all get the job done
how about iphone4?

iphone4 would work, but it would also need to be rooted/jailbroken, and the iphone community is different from android, everything costs money (including tethering apps) and it's not as free for all happy sharing open...
Tethering from the iPhone4 can be done without needing to pay anything, and that is through bluetooth. But..:
Iphone may already work through PAN/Bluetooth, with a few commands (automated through gscript?). But current kernels do not allow DUN connections.
Thus, tethering from an iphone4 using bluetooth/PAN only allows browser app and a few other apps (gmail?) to connect to the internet.. For a complete connection, you would need DUN. I think it has already been requested. But of course, this isn't a priority for kernel devs at the moment.
Of course, as it's been said, you can always choose to jailbreak and pay for a wifi/hotspot app. That would work.

I ordered my NC today! I'm waiting for it... what I need to tether my nexus one to NC? N1 is rooted as well... is it necessary to get adhoc fix on NC? I heard some user here saying it is not necessary but I found a thread related to adhoc fix...
Thanks!

Nothing, you can tether with your N1 without any additional software or hardware...

[Q] How do I prove I'm NOT tethering?

I have a stock, but rooted Captivate. I do not tether. I do not even have a tethering program installed. I just got a warning letter from Att that I am tethering and unless I stop they will upgrade me to a tethering plan (from unlimited). I'm not even a heavy user (usually around 2GB/month).
I suspect my problem is that I use Dolphin browser with a custom user agent string (below) to force websites like Facebook to deliver a full website and not a mobile version.
Is there a "safe" user agent that will work that Att won't interpret as tethering? I doubt there is any way to convince them that their detection method is flawed - or does anyone know of one?

I would have told them off. That's just ridiculous.
Sounds like its them trying to get you off Unlimited. Sucks....

Dumb question - have you called and spoken with someone, and told them pretty much what you said to us?
My own personal experience is that as long as you're proactive and polite, they'll usually be pretty helpful.
richb500,
Have you deleted or uninstalled the Tethering Manager through Titanium Backup ? If not, I would suggest doing that... If that manager is gone, then how else would they know about any kind of tethering, whether intentional or unintentional ?
Just a suggestion since ur rooted.

I haven't done anything with Tethering Manager and I don't have any tethering programs installed - that's why I suspect it's a false positive hit they are getting on deep packet inspection because I have Dolphin pretending to be Firefox on Windows.
I had a very nice conversation with a very pleasant ATT rep. I explained what I am doing with Dolphin and she confirmed that this is fine. However, I couldn't convince her that this is likely what is causing the false positive.
Now here is where things get really crappy.... she can't tell me when I tethered, for how long, or how many times. No one reachable can. Only the unreachable, unquestionable networking group. There us is no way to challenge it, even if it results in my plan being changed. She said if it gets changed there is absolutely no way to get back into the unlimited plan.
It sounds like a real problem. Tomorrow I will try once again to reach a higher level person. If that doesn't work I will contract my consumer protection agency and also try to get the attention of the press.
A lot of innocent people are going to be mistreated. It's like the Salem Witch trials. No proof. No way to prove your innocence. No way to stop doing what you aren't doing.
Too bad we all don't have ergot poisoning though and aren't tripping balls like the salem witch trials...
Nope no unknown rye contaminate causing mass hysteria....just plain old boring and frustrating greed at work here.
Somehow I get the feeling that everyone that got grandfathered in to an unlimited plan is being super scrutinized and the slightest sign of anything "wrong" and they will change it. Like they're trying to get rid of all those unlimited plans and get everyone down to the 2gb limit, not to mention the ridiculous automatic $50 a month tethering plan...just a thought from a cynical zombie.
That's ridiculous. A lot of us are tethering, even if it isn't all that much. You are one of the innocent people who are not and you got a nastygram. I wonder how many more false positives there will be?

[Q] DS7 and QIK and T-Mobile TV. Anyone get it working on 3.0?

Question. Since the upgrade to Honeycomb, I havent been able to use QIK (Which I her they charge for a month??) Qik said they dont suport honeycomb yet. Nor ICS. Also not been having any luck with that T-Mobile TV thing either. (MobiTV) Anyone manage to get any of those working on honeycomb? Bad enough I cant "Bill my t-mobile account" using honeycomb. The thought of downgrading however.. makes me shudder heh.
Also anyone ever see a Blockbuster App that works for any of our devices? Say them on the play market with horrid reviews. Wonder if this was only best on my HD2.
