I searched all over the internet and was unable to find an answer or solution.
I Installed RegawMOD's latest rom.
Wifi was working just fine, The last time i remember that it was working was before used the toolbox and before installing 2 or 3 games. I think that something messed with my wifi driver because when i try to turn it on it says "unable to start wifi", then when i try to turn on airplane mode it says "unable to turn off wifi" When i try to run the Wireless Tether it says that the tethering started with errors that i should check the log. The log says the following from the bottom going up:
Tethering now running DONE
Enabling access control DONE
Enabling IP Forwarding DONE
Enabling NAT rules DONE
Activating wifi Interface FAILED
Configuring WIfi Interface FAILED
loading wlan.ko module FAILED
Does anybody have any useful information that may pertain to my situation?
Everything else is working perfectly. this is the only thing that has ceased to work.
This belongs in Q&A, not Dev.
Thread moved to Q&A.
This is a kernal issue go with darchDroid 2.7, it will fix that problem
did you flash a different kernel? What version of tether?
if you really feel it's the driver, pull the wlan.ko from the original zip and push it into place to overwrite.
I just encountered the same problem as the OP on my HTC Hero CDMA. I rooted my phone with RegawMOD3.0 yesterday and within a few hours my Wifi stopped working. I'm getting "unable to start wifi" and "unable to stop wifi" in airplane mode. The only other thing I did was get the Adblocker app, which i thought may have cause an issue so I did a factory reset on my phone and still no dice. From what I've read it's either the kernel or wifi driver and I'm unsure what one to try and fix first. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Kernel version:
2.6.29-ba77cf03
[email protected] #1
Firmeware version:
2.1-update1
Build number:
2.51.591.4 CL343325 release-keys
Well, whatever the issue was it was solved when I put cynogen 7.2 Nightly in. My Wifi is working perfectly now.
Yeah. I'm impressed they're still making nightlies for this phone.
PROBLEM SOLVED, See below
Hi all,
I'm getting seriously confused with android-wifi-tether not working! Basically i have tried various custom ROMs (all Android 2.1) and various versions of wifi tether. I've even installed jacobs newer kernels.
There are no errors when i start tether. But when i connect with a laptop (tried many) the laptop goes through the motion of connecting successfully, the phone does not acknowledge the laptops connection and the laptop does not get a proper IP address.
I checked it out with Logcat, no errors on android-wifi-tether start, and when a computer connects, no logs are generated at all.
It has been working on the phone when i was running Wildpuzzle 2.1 1.0.0 i reverted to the rom but still nothing.
I've always installed a fresh rom with a full wipe also.
Whats interesting is i flashed my other halfs wildfire and it has the same issue (although not tried a variety of roms on it).
If anyone has any suggestions or ways of diagnosing. I would really appreciate it!!
There is something lingering somewhere on the phone.
Many Thanks, Dan

My kernel only fixes it for 2.2 ROMs (and not Sense atm)
No luck if you're on 2.1, sorry.
I had this problem on 2.1 and had to find a new bin file as described in /code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/Setup_HTC_Desire_Incredible. After I did this it all worked OK.
I now use Cyangenmod 6.1 RC2 Build 41 and use the internal Froyo 2.2 Wifi tether and it works just fine. ( Thanks Jacob )

Didn't think that would work for 2.1 but I was clearly wrong xD
i had to also run the
Code:
ip route add table gprs 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.254
is there anyway this fix can be included with 2.1 roms automatically?
Looks like i spoke to soon, gets an IP now and the phone acknowledges the connection but i cannot ping anything from the laptop :S
It appears if i run
Code:
ip route add table gprs 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.254.
once tethering has been started it begins to work and the laptop can download.
Any ideas?
Problem fixed!!
I thought i'd share:
I edited
/data/data/android.tether/bin/fixroute.sh
after the sleep 2
and before the done at the end of the file i added
Code:
/system/bin/ip route add table gprs 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.254
I also modified the sleep to 10, just in case it need a few seconds for eth0 to kick in.
Works perfectly and everytime.
Of course you need to do it everytime you install the binaries.
I just downloaded the 29-8-11 2.2.2 build on sourceforge and installed with latest .32 kernel.
But wireless not always working. If i restart the phone while wireless trying to open, it starts.
But after closing and trying to reopen it, no luck.
It first starts, tries to search the network and stops with "error"
First time i get an error like this. Tried the patch with aTools 1.3.0 and still nothing
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
And sorry for the bad English.
Good Day
I have the same problem, I cant begin wifi on "Scoot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RLS3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) + kernel .32"
Any idea, solution, tips?
Thanks
Rooted, ota update was "forced" after postponing several times phone is still rooted working fine update failed to install but now no wifi in looking at advanced settings in wifi there is no Mac addy in wifi adapter wifi only returns error when trying to enable. Anyone seen this b/4?
Just registered because I have the same problem (no wifi). My phone is stock however.
AT&T
HTC Vivid
ICS 4.0.3
Phone notified me of an update this morning, I proceeded. Next time I look down the phone has what looks like a dos loader screen. Safest option seemed to be restart so I did. Phone notified me that the update failed, everything seems ok, except wifi won't turn on.
Thanks in advance for any help!
That happened to me. I have an unlocked Vivid with a stock rom and after tha failed update the wifi would not turn on. I went to the ics superguide and did the step 1 thru 5 in order (yes did the wiretrick to get s-off) and then flashed a kernel with a matching rom (HolicsROM V1.3 Official with Holics Kernel) and now everthing worked fine. I imagin you could probably do the same with stock rom but I like all the extras I got from the new rom.
Hey I was hoping someone could help shed some light on my wifi signal issue or guide me on a method to fix it. I use my wifi from my bedroom and my modem is downstairs. As soon as I changed to the below setup I continually received frequent drop outs and latency issues using VoIP apps such as Viber. I am happy to downgrade firmware if I need to but am unsure to what level.
Anyway sorry for the long details but I would rather be thorough as I am pretty unsure when it comes to a lot of this, thanks in advance!
I was running a JVR 2.3 firmware and I had to update with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVR-v4.1-CWM3RFS (TAR file) which I did using Odin 3 ver 1.3. It took about three attempts of getting the phone caution pc sign as it kept crashing but it eventually loaded and it was finally rooted. So I dragged galaxysmtd_aosp_jb42_20121209 and gapps-jb-20121212-signed to the root folder. Booted my phone in recovery mode and did a complete wipe and installed both of the above files using CMW.
It all boots up now now with the Cyanogen intro etc and the phone's details are GT-I9000 running Android 4.2.1, baseband version I9000XXJVT, kernel version [email protected] #33, build number full_galaxysmtd-userdebug 4.2.1 JOP40Deng.pawitp.20121209.120851 test-keys.
I did some research and made sure the box was unchecked so it would allow weak wifi connections.
I also downloaded an app called Devil Kernel Manager which has a misc option to change wifi connection from power saver mode to stronger however it doesnt appear to do anything and I get the error message:
>echo 1 > /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameteres/uiFastWifi &&echo 1> /data/local/devil/wifi
[sh: <stdin>[1]: can't create /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameteres/uiFastWifi: No such file or directory, 1]
