[Q] Rooting with HBOOT 1.01 - Legend Android Development

Hi,
I have the official (stock) WWW Froyo ROM in my Legend. It was OTA updated two days ago. I only noticed today that the rooted version is now available, and I would like to install it
Is there any way to downgrade the HBOOT?
I tried to downgrade RUU with the goldcard method, but when I try to flash with RUU version 1.31, it says "wrong bootloader version", or something like that.
I mean, I cannot root my phone because I can't downgrade to a rootable RUU, because of the new HBOOT.
Any suggestion?

I have similar problem, I was updating the hboot, now I ended up with f*** official froyo rom, and no root access. Can't even install visionary r14 from modaco, for acheving temp root

If it allows you to go in to recovery mode and then "flash zip", it may work.
Anyway, I don't believe temproot allows you to access the option to flash a zip.
If you are successful, let us know

I read on the official VISIONary thread at MoDaCo that someone is telling Paul that he can only temp-root with r14, but can't perm-root with it anymore.

For now no way to downgrade HBOOT 1.01 to HBOOT 1.00 or 0.43 .....
We wait for a solution ....

You should follow the instrucions from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845512
It is the same as rooting devices with HBOOT 1.00. And yes you will need to install visionary r13 or r14 from modaco and temproot your phone. I worked for me! I have new HBOOT 1.01 and CM 6.1 rom now. I've spend all afternone playing with my phone, to get it right.
EDIT: when you are doing the last step, you just have to choose some rooted stock rom that you prefer.

Well, it does not work for me
At this stage: "Phone will reboot and find LEGEIMG.zip on your sdcard, copy it into RAM and check it." my device just reboots to the HBOOT menu, without any error, no copy and check happens. It just stays there forever waiting for me to choose an option: Fastboot; Recovery; Clear Storage; Simlock.
I think that the suggested tutorial does not contemplate HBOOT 1.01. Are you sure it wasn't your new rooted froyo image that installed you 1.01 HBOOT?

Just to add one more thing.
I am able to gain root access with the temproot trick, but when I ask clockworkmod to reboot in to recovery mode, it just takes me to a big red question mark. After a while it reboots and everything is normal again.

That's perfectly normal...

And, do you think there is a solution?

Yes, qzem already presented you one. But you have another problem... bootloader can't see/find LEGEIMG.zip located on your sdcard. There were guys with exactly the same problem and some managed to solve it so it is documented right here on XDA forums.

Blow me down!! It worked!
I had to repartition, reformat and recreate the memory card as goldcard.
Now I have Stock Rooted Froyo
My path was: stock OTA 2.2 -> 2.1 -> rooted stock 2.2
Thanks

Nice to hear that you solved the problem.

Maybe you should do as I did:
-Delete all the partitions on the SD card;
-Create ONE FAT32 partition;
-Format it;
-Create Goldcard;
-Copy LEGEIMG.zip to the SD card;
Finally, try again.

Cheers will give it a try now. Any idea why you have to do this if you already have a working goldcard?
That all worked fine and I am now on 2.1 I installed rom manager 2.5.1.2 but when I try to install clockworkmod it does nothing anyone got any ideas?
maybe I should also mention that i dont have superuser.apk but i do have root check in terminal and su is working.

Now that you have 2.1, you need to root your device.
Just follow this tutorial: http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-legend/
On step 9, use the rooted rom of your preference.\
That is how I did it.

Instal superuser from Market. Then open Rom Manager, FlashClockworkMod Recovery, then choose Install Rom from SD Card. Before that you should copy some custom rom(all custom roms are rooted usually) you want on the sd card.

I have finally got it all working I am now the proud owner of a sim free legend with stock 2.2 rooted with clockworkmod recovery. My phones still doesnt like my sim card though lol Cheers guys for all your help. Maybe someone should compile a guide of all of the steps used from other guides?

Can't flash new build on rooted G!

My G! is rooted. I download the ROM and the proper radio. I go into recovery mode after copying the build to the root of my SD card. I wipe all data and than try and flash my build(Alt+S)(update.zip or update with vista), and it always tells me how many files are in the folder and "No Signature" installation aborted. The only rom it accepts no problem is the one that brings me back to 1.5 or donut so that I can get back to 1.6 or cupcake. I use the DREIMG.nbh and Telnet + telnetd from the home screen to root and bring me down to 1.0 . I've tried a number of roms but it never works. What could I be doing wrong. I always follow the direction on all the sites plus what i know. HELP ME!!!!!!!!! I need change!

how do i get my nexus one back to stock absolutely every like out of the box stock i ahve the T-Mo version
Download:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Pas...le_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_MFG_Shipment_ROM.zip
Extract it, rename the extracted file passimg.zip and copy to the root of the SD card.
Also download:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Pas...RG83 OTA update, possibly from FRF91 too).zip
Rename it to update.zip and copy it to the root of yout SD card.
Power off the phone, hold Vol- and power on. It will boot to the bootloader, detect the passimg file and ask if you wish to install.
After it's done (I think it'll reboot itself, if not, select recovery), power off and power on with Vol- held again. This time dont install the passimg.zip, and choose recovery.
At the Android & warning triangle, hold the power button and press Vol+
Choose install update.
Voilà, a completely up to date, stock phone.
thank you very much for your help!! i was searching through the forums and there was like 20 million ways to do it non specific and i found myself running in circles
Have I bricked my phone???
I followed the instructions above (completely) and now, I do not seem to have a recovery screen...
The phone boots up but because I get FC constantly, I tried to redo these instructions and cannot get a recovery screen. I get the bootloader which re-installs the Passimg.zip, then nothing but an exclamation mark when I try and get recovery.
I did a data wipe B4 as well as a davlik wipe.
Am I done??

Hi Rusty
Would this work with a phone on ERE36B, kernel 2.6.33 hi-apk?
I have updated my phone which was on Vodafone and now I am FRG83D, but my brothers N1 has the ERE36B version, so just wandering if the steps you outlined above will work on his phone.
Cheers
Yes it will, he can be off the Voda build by copying the above.
Hi Rusty
So is the ERE36B, kernel 2.6.33 hi-apk a Voda build?
I didn't think it was but I know nothing. So the steps will work even on the ERE36B build?
Cheers
Oh yeah, it's not a Voda build, that's EPF30 I was thinking of.
It will still work though. Hell, to be honest, there is an update .zip from ERE36B => FRF91, so that would be less hassle.
sorry for noob question.
Will this re-lock my nexus one (return an unlocked bootloader to default) ? I'm about to send my N1 to HTC for repairs/replacement (my camera is not focusing on distant objects, works on close-ups only) and unlocking voids the warranty

Any advice on this matter? Maybe someone had experience dealing with HTC and can share some thought?

I have sent 2 phones into HTC with unlocked bootloader. I have not had any problems getting a replacement phone. Just give it a try.
I did return them to stock. Stock rom, stock recovery.
Edit: I tried it and it worked! So no need to answer but thanks anyway
Hi,
I wonder if this will also work for my phone?
Where am I at the moment? I have a Nexus One SLCD (Vodafone Europe) with AmonRa 1.8.0.1 Recovery and FRG83 installed. Bootloader is locked. No root. Now I get the update notification for FRG83D but can't install it. The N1 reboots and stops with a verification error. Now I think that I can't install FRG83D because of the AmonRa recovery.
As I don't have the need to install Custom ROMs (tried CM 6.0 but didn't like it so went forward to FRG83 Stock ROM) and still have no need for root I just want an N1 that just works with OTA from Google => absolute Stock (recovery and ROM) without waiting for Vodafone
So I wonder if that method descriped in this thread will bring me to my goal of a stock recovery and stock ROM on my N1 SLCD. Does FRG33 work with SLCD? I had a "broken"/dark display in recovery and ROM because of AMOLED/SLCD once and would like to not have that problem again

Any other links I can try to get the update.zip ERE36B => FRF91?

You can grab the update at this link: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Pas...signed-passion-FRG83D-from-FRG83.ecb21b75.zip
Place it to your sdcard root and boot into RA recovery, where you would flash from zip

It's All good...I put this stock ROM on my phone with update to FRG83D...installed RA 2.00 to make a nandroid of it, then restored my lovely CM 6.1 back. When gingerbread comes out, I'll just restore the stock ROM and install update (until Cyanogen comes out with a ROM)
Thanks again
Well, I have come across a problem. My brothers N1 has an unlocked bootloader. The N1 is running ERE36B, so the passimg file is not working.
Does the N1 have to be unrooted so we can get the FRF91 build on the phone?
Sorry if it's a noob question and all, but any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Unlocked bootload makes no difference.
However, there is another way, extract the .img files from the passimg.zip and use fastboot to flash the system.img and boot.img.

how to root this phone?

Hi, i have one piece nexus one android version 2.2, build number FRF91. Can anyone tell me how to root this phone and please sugest a ROM with portuguese language?
Thank you.
Well, i checked the newbie link. Just need to know a few facts:
1) How do i know if my Nexus One is a retail one so that i can unlock the bottloader?
2) To root the phone is it necessary to go to command prompt? Can i just click on 'install-superboot-windows'?
3) Is it necessary to flash custom recovery image? Why is required?
Last can anyone sugggest me a ROM with portuguese language in it?
Thank you.
Notes:
- For FRF91, Universal Androot will work(it does not work for FRG33 and after) for rooting(without unlocking bootloader). It is installed like normal Android app, and you can root your device with it(but sometimes it fails). Also, there're other one-click rooting tools like z4root and SuperOneClick.
- If the custom ROM is built from AOSP, it will support Portugese.

SO basically is this what i have to do?
1) Turn usb debugging on, root with superoneclick with phone connected.."charge mode"?
2) Flash rom
also, do i need to flash recovery image?
You will want to install either clockwork or amon-ra recovery. If you leave the current recovery, you are still able to receive OTA updates that, if installed, you will lose root.
As a side note, has anyone noticed that rooting the N1 was never an issue until the 1-clicks and the androot tools came along? Nothing against those tools, they work and people can leave a bootloader locked. But it seems to me that was always the choice you had to make with your device. Root it or not? Having your cake and eating it too has led to more and more lazy "how do I do this?", "this isn't working", what am I doing wrong"? posts. It has already been proven time and time again that HTC doesn't really care about an unlocked bootloader for hardware related warranty work. If it is software related (rare) it was probably your fault and you don't deserve warranty service.
Oh well...thats my .02
1. download Universal Androot from the market or here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598. Install. Run. Get root.
2. download ROM Manager from the market or here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639153. Install Clockwork Recover or Amon-Ra recover. You don't absolutely have to install a custom recovery, but why would you not? It allows you to do so many useful things including a Nandroid backup.
3. download a ROM of your choice. My favorite is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184 but most ROMs will have your language. Install via ROM manager or boot into recovery and install.
Well i rooted with superclick then when i go into recovery mode and click on recovery it shows a white triangle. I removed the memory card while rooting, could that be the problem?
How did you remove the sdcard while rooting? That would also mean you pulled the battery? Or did you bend it up enough to get it out? Either way, don't ever do that.
Read my signature.
I removed the memory card before rooting, anyway thanks guys for your reply...i will check the wiki and redo process with sdcard tomorrow..
JUst one more question, should i install rom through rom manager or manually go into recovery mode?

Sounds like you still have the stock recovery. Install a custom recovery.
Do this ----> Download ROM Manager from the market or here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639153.
Then, you can install Clockwork Recovery or Amon-Ra recovery to flash ROM (and do Nandroid backups).
Or, you can use ROM manager to flash your ROM.
Please, please do a Nandroid back-up before flashing a custom ROM. (You can do this through Rom Manager).
This should be the first advice you are given above all else!

Rooting incredible S - instructions?

Hey, I'm thinking of rooting my phone for two main reasons - removing all the crap that got installed with my phone which I don't want, and doing something about the useless search button which I never use (mapping to camera seems like a good idea). So I'm really thinking of trying CyanogenMod. CyanogenMod also seems to be based on Gingerbread, which is nice since I'm currently still on Foyo and not sure how to upgrade to Gingerbread (I'm in Australia, never got any notifications on my phone about software upgrade to 2.3...)
I've been looking at the threads on this forum and I'm a bit confused about what is possible / required. For example, "[GUIDE] upgrade / root Gingerbread / Froyo, flash custom roms July/05" pinned to this thread suggests I can use AlpharevX to S-OFF my phone, which I gather is required for rooting. However pinned to the very top of the dev board, is "Rooting Incredible S - AlphaRevX in Public Beta" which seems to suggest that AlphaRevX can't root the Incredible S yet ???
So anyway, can someone look over this and tell me if what I'm planning to do is right?
1. S-off my phone. Use AlpahrevX as instructed on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036581 I need to do this in order to root my phone.
2. Root my phone. Either upgrade to gingerbread and use the gingerbread rooting instructions, or use the foyo rooting instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036581 (does it matter which way I do it? Or is one way significantly better/easier/more reliable?).
3. Install CWM using instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 This is needed to install custom roms (is this right?)
4. Actually install custom rom, using instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134670 It says to "Flash CyanogenMod". How do I actually 'flash' a rom. Is that something CWM does for me?
5. Install Google Apps addon for CyanogenMod.
Other questions:
- Is rooting the device actually necessary? Some instruction posts for using custom roms that I found on these forums, skip straight from the instructions to S-OFF, to the instructions for using CWM. So is it that you don't actually need to root your phone? Or is CWM a tool that does the rooting?
- I already stated my reasons at the start of my post for wanting to root the phone, but is there anything else particularly significant that you can only do with a rooted phone?
- CyanogenMod has a recommended radio file. Their wiki has instructions on how to update the radio file for Incredible S but it looks complicated. Exactly what benefit is there to using a custom radio file, worth the risk/trouble?
- Lastly, if I ever want to return my phone for warrenty or something, is there a way to undo all of this? I'm guessing you'd need to turn on S-ON, un-root, then replace the rom with the appropriate shipped rom (from this collection: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12870734&postcount=1) and replace the radio file with the default one. So is it possible to turn a S-OFF phone to S-On and 'un-root'?
Add me on google talk and I will tell you what I did, and answer questions to the best of my ability.
[email protected]
Ok yes you need to S-OFF your phone (otherwise it wont work) This is the first step:
**GoHere...http://www.youtube.comwatch?v=XshvRmAcgm8 This is an awesome youtube video of how to S-OFF with AlpharevX
** After that you need to install the CWM recovery but first (instead of looking at their difficult instruction) Do THIS:
Go here(easy step)
This will give you instructions on downloading a Flasher. What that does is flash certain things onto your device while its plugged in.
**Once you have downloaded that, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 (only download the recovery image for Incredible S)
It is the 3rd step I do believe.
When you are done downloading it. Go into the file and grab the file called recovery (image file) and drag it to your "downloads" screen
**Open up Android Flash 1.8 and plug in your device. Click on Recovery on the left hand side. It will prompt you to a folder (it wants you to open the Recovery image file I told you to place in "downloads") Either way find that file.
Click on the file and Android flasher will do the rest.
Im pretty sure it boots your screen for you but if it doesnt
To see if you successfully downloaded it:
** Power down your phone
**Press and hold the DOWN volume and POWER button
Move the volume up and down keys to select "RECOVERY" it is second down I do believe
Press the POWER button to select "Recovery"
**You will now be prompted to a screen witch is CMW recovery.
After that go to the "reboot" option.
To ROOT your phone(last step)
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
Just follow thier instructions. Its pretty easy!
After you have done that message me or google talk me [email protected]

HBOOT is different to recovery. You can get to HBOOT by turning your phone off, holding down the 'volume down' button and pressing the power button. A white screen with some text should then come up, which will show the HBOOT version, radio version and some other stuff. If you put the radio you want to flash into the root folder of your SD card, name it PG32IMG.zip and then boot your phone into HBOOT like this, you should be able to perform a radio update.

Hi i needed to update my radio as well. You dont need to rename it PG32. Just go and download the radio 06.03.03 from the ARHD thread, and go to the guide in that folder. Quoting the guide in the radio download folder :
Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
6. Done. Enjoy!
There. THat's what i did, i was not radio s-off but i still managed. good luck
Yep that works too... I just prefer to do it the way I described as yu don't need to bother plugging it in to a computer.

[Q] [SOLVED] G1 T-Mobile (ERA PL) can not be rooted.

Hi, i have a problem with re-rooting device.
History of Device:
stock G1
rooted with androot
changed recovery to Amon-Ra
stock bootloader
than, it happened to be unrooted, and recovery went back to stock 2e. now it has got installed DRC83, with no root, newest radio but i can not root it again.
1. Cyans forums method with DREAIMG.nbh does not work - not allow error
2. androot method does not work - segmentation fault error and no superuser.spk installed in apps. There is one in /system/app/ but it has got no icon,so i guess its currupted
3. fastboot method to change recovery does not work, because there is no fastboot
4. flash_recovery does not work cause it does not work on 1.6 firmware.
5. Rom Manager ends up with FC
6. Goldcard Method effect equal to stock MicroSD card.
Is there anything else to try?
Of course android boots up, and every other functions are working.
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
why did you revert to stock recovery and spl? regardless you should still be able to make a goldcard and flash rc29 via hboot with the dreaimg.nbh
try again with another sd card or try following a different guide. the cyanogen wiki, in my opinion, is the best rooting guide for the dream

well i didn't revert it. My brother did. It was his device. Now he gave it to me, and i wanted to install superE instead of stock.
I tried 4 different MicroSD cards. ADATA 16GB, Kingston 512MB, Nokia 2GB , and noname 2GB. still no luck... when i try DREAIMG.NBH via hboot i get "not allow". I really don't know where to start again.
right now, the biggest problem is broken superuser.apk. i cant get root rights. i can't do anything to get it working. i tried installing superuser in /data/app after rooting, and still nothing happens.dunno what to do ;./

don't worry about superuser right now, it won't do you any good on a stock rom anyway. make sure your sd is fat32 and then make a new goldcard. acctually skip the goldcard and try just following the cyanogen wiki

Well i must say, Root gives me everything.
I succeed to root device. androot + manually copied superuser from /system/app to sdcard. than installed superuser and unroot via androot. Next root without superuser. Root complete!
I flashed recovery image with this manual
Recovery from AMON_RA
HARDSPD from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Dream:_DangerSPL
And now i am happy to announce that last 24h of work is done
Thanks for cheering me up
Oh. i have a goldcard MicroSD...it could be a key to success
