To get root, SuperOneClick works:

To unlock, so far nothing has worked for me.

This is driving me crazy. I have an I9000M bought last month. I couldn't unlock JK4. I tried flashing back to JH2 but that won't unlock either.
My previous I9000M on JH2 unlocked without a problem. I guess that Samsung no longer includes the unlock codes on the phones anymore.
Does anyone have any idea how to unlock this damn thing?!!

Unlocked
I finally paid $35 to get it unlocked: www.freeyourcellph.weebly.com

mine is locked too
but the site that u post...
the guy told me that i have to go to him
but he is not in vancouver ....

Download the application called SGS Unlock from the market.
Tested and worked on 2.1. I am too scared to upgrade it yet lol
Steps:
1) Download and install application
2) Open application.
3) Click ok or something similar to go next page
4) Press the Menu button, the button on the right side of the hard button
5) Click Root or no Root Gen Code, depending if your phone is rooted or not.
6) Wala, codes should be found!

so .... i guess noone is able to unlock 2.2 then......
stupid bell..... why they locked the phone in the first place
anyway i can flash it back to 2.1
so i can unlock it again ??

Did u tried the application that I suggested? It should work on 2.2 probably. Try it out and see first before flashing back.

not working
where can i download the right 2.1 files??

Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885228

no link for the file

You should ask it at the other thread.
I never tried that myself yet, so not sure how to go about it either.

[Q] Bell i9000m Official 2.2 Froyo Upgrade Question(s)

So apparently the official 2.2 Froyo is rolling out. I haven't checked yet but I will when I get home. I have some newb questions.
I got my phone and haven't touched a thing to it. Just added lots of apps. No root. No lag fix. Nothing.
My question is, if I upgrade this officially via Kies:
1) Do I lose my contacts / stuff ?
2) Do I lose my apps ?
I heard people saying that once you upgrade to do a hard reset of the phone -- why ? What happens if you don't ?
With this in mind, how and what is the best way to back up all my apps ? I haven't rooted but i DO have Titanium Back up. Would Z4root work for i9000m ? can anyone confirm ?

1. Phone is currently rooted. Do I have to unroot it before applying the firmware upgrade from Kies?
2. Do I have to perform a factory reset before applying the firmware upgrade?
Why is this stupid update corrupting internal SD's left and right? Bell better get me a new phone! Cause this one is bricked(I think) it goes up til "S" logo and then nothing but blank screen. If I touch the button, they light up but still nothin on the screen.
I should have gotten a different phone to begin with, but too bad Canada doesn't have all the good phones US has like D2 DX HTC Evo etc. Going up to Bell tomorrow for an exchange.

A lot of people have been complaining that their SD cards have been screwed. Luckily mine went through without any problems and hasn't given me any trouble so far.
Froyo is insane tho, before the phone used to lag a bit, now the moment i touch it it opens. No need for lag fix in my opinion, everything works blazing fast as is.
One thing to watch out for is the WIFI. It was working normally at the beginning but after 3 hours it just disconnected for no apparent reason and has trouble connecting back.
Good luck

Yep, but for optimised result, this is a must do!
You can probably have it work without doing a factory reset, but you can encounter weird behavior, bugs and stuff!
Anyway, you might end up doing it anyway to solve the firts boot issue
I'm one of the users who upgraded to Bell Froyo (from stock FW with root and lagfix - undid the lagfix before upgrading) and then encountered the broken internal SD card issue. I ran Volume UP/Power/Home(middle button) to reformat everything and it is up again. Inside the OS, I ran the internal factory reset again. So far so good. *crossing fingers*
I updated mine last night. However I've had major problems since. Initially it would just freeze up randomly and require removing the battery to get it back up and running.
Today I decide to reset it to defaults which seemed to go fine, although shortly after getting it all setup again, some Samsung app of sorts came up with an error and had to be forcefully closed. Then I was left with a black screen and only the notification bar.
Powered off the phone and went to turn it back on, and now it just loops through the Samsung GT i9000 screen (white writing). Not even the colourful S logo comes up.
I'm able to get it into Download Mode but not Recovery Mode. I'll have to do some reading about this Odin stuff tonight. Hopefully I can revive it, otherwise I guess I'll had to send it in for repairs. No idea if Virgin Mobile repairs will go through Bell or if I take it to them directly.
This is my first Android phone and I've only had it for just over a week. I thought I was making a good decision, but now I see it has quite a defect with the internal SD card failing.
Slow after upgrade
I upgrade my phone last night ( as per bell and Samsung) It is now slower than before. Quadrant Standard has it under 900.
Any ideas how to fix it?

[SOLVED] Return to stock (unroot) without USB or without a computer (non-RUU method)?

Hey guys, please forgive me if I misuse my terminology here but I am still a padawan learner.
My wife's hero is rooted and running a cyanogen rom. All was well for months but now her usb plug is broken and NOT charging. I have not yet verified that the usb won't talk to the pc but I assume it's the case because I can't get the thing to charge. Of course i have tried 5 or 6 diff chargers, tried wiggling, etc. but i am convinced that there is a broken prong in the phones plug. The phone is under warranty for 2 more days but I understand that I need to flash it back to stock before trying warranty stuff.
I have searched and the answers I have found are to simply run the latest RUU from the htc website. I found it, no problem, but it is an .exe file and would require the usb to work, right? The phone is dead right now or i would test the usb>pc connection and I have arranged to briefly borrow a friend's battery later tonight. If i can't get the connection to work is there any other way to flash this thing back to stock? If I just download a stock rom and flash that then i will still be rooted right? Do they check that? and lastly what about running an OTA update? Any advice/ideas are greatly appreciated.
Come to think of it, I might have the original naandroid backup that i did of the phone back in the day. If i restore this, would it go back to stock?
Here's what you can do:
Go HERE and download the S-OFF bootloader.
Flash it
Download THIS - its the zip that gets uploaded/flashed when you run the RUU.
And..as per instructions on that page:
Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
Power your phone completely off.
Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.
After it flashes you'll have a stock phone, with the stock bootloader
Its the same setup I have on my phone..Just in case I need to un-root on the fly Except I have two zips. One with the stock bootloader and one without so I can keep it unlocked.
Gotta love XDA, thanks so much. I may have found it if I had thought about searching for "stock sprint zip format". Hopefully the next guy will find this. I have been helped by your advice many times throughout the forums in my searches.

Hi, another noob here: SAKKA.
I also need to revert to stock. I already switched the phone number (just upgraded and giving Hero to daughter). So have to push everything from Mac via USB. Unable to d/l md5sum: a77a2dee8e903e8f1a18b28b5c5e0b40 b/c it won't connect (too old?) Have HERC in root, did steps 1-4. But no go. Is there someway I can chat and get some help? Or do you know where i can chat now that AOSP is no longer running an online chat room (as far as I know)?

i tried this! it was on the updating part and when it was almost done, the htc screen appear and it started all over with s-off. so it said fail.
Just curious, if phone is already activated to her # then why go back to horrible stock.
If u want a stock ROM flash liquid sense or nfx.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=643
From either of those two ROMs u can do all that stock can.. like activation, PRL updates, etc.....
So unless its going for service under warranty there is no need to unroot to stock.
Good luck

[Q] Stuck on logo screen suddenly. Ideas?

Hi,
Last night my Galaxy S was low on battery, and I kept trying to turn it on for it to die right away (it was working as expected I guess)
This morning after I charged my phone it wouldn't turn on at all! It loads to the logo screen, makes that jingle sound and then holds and doesn't turn on.
I can get to recovery and download mode.
I put OCLF on like 2 months ago, but haven't modded/flashed ANYTHING since. It is very bizarre how it just died.
I'm wondering what my options are now. Obviously I would rather not loose all my personal files. Since I can get into download mode, can I just flash a new firmware? I'd like FroYo anyway, but I haven't got a clue what to do.
Great start to the year – !
Cheers,
Mitch
EDIT: I just decided to try the "Clear User Cache" option and then reboot to no avail. Now I can't get back into recovery mode!?!? Download mode still works. Huhh?? Is this expected? Have I lose Recovery Mode entirely now? Crap.
seeeems like an odin flash via the download mode is the only way. There are a few tutorials on this site and even tut vids on youtube so you should be fine if you just follow everything they do (as long as it works for them of course)
How do I know what version to flash? I have read a few tutorials and they all have started with "Dial x and check you have y" etc. Obviously I can't do any of that.
What is the *safest* firmware I can flash?
My phone currently has some optus variety.
Please forgive the noodish question.
Mitch
Where are you located? And who is your provider?
Hi,
I'm in Sydney Australia and my provider is Optus.
Thanks
Hi,
I still can't get my phone working and am not clear how to proceed.
What would be the best firmware to flash to my Optus Galaxy S that bricked out of the blue? Should I just send it back to Samsung?
Thank You

Hey mate go to samfirmware and get I9000DTJG4 thats the stock optus rom once you get phone up and running then upgrade to 2.2.1.
Sounds like you'll need to do a flash of a stock rom..
By the way, the old oclf had some issues that might lead to system corruption (unfortunately I'm not very sure exactly what it does, or whether it could lead to this problem). I'd suggest getting one of the newer lag fixes available here when you do get your phone running again

tragusman has got it right. Depending on what the issue is, you'll either recover nicely or your phone is toast. Flash the above stock firmware and give it a shot. Note that you'll likely loose your data and settings.
If you're new to flashing firmwares, check the great reference guide on where to find Odin and how to use it (this is the app you'll use to flash the above firmware).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
After flashing, try getting into recovery mode. If you can look for an error message under the standard menu. Can't get to d/l mode? You're probably in trouble. Get into recovery and see an error msg? Post the error here or google it for a solution. No error msg? You're probably ok - restart the phone.
Good luck.
Thanks guys.
I'm about to try it now, but before I start potentially breaking my phone even more, I was just thinking: Could I just send it back to Samsung? Would they fix it, or identify right away I have changed something and void my warranty.

[Q] how to unlock I9000m with froyo jl2 installed

Hi all
I just received my phone from Samsung service center after it died few weeks ago; however, I got the phone with froyo JL2 installed, and the phone is locked again to Bell.
My question is how to unlock it? as I tried old methods but they doesn't work!! Or is their any way to go back to 2.1 jh2
thank you for your help in advance
Same thing happened to me. I just got mine back and can't unlock either. Any help would be appreciated!
Just flash 2.1 and use the old method!
Or you can use the hex edit way to unlock it.
Same....for me...
Just got mine unlocked. Root using Superoneclick v155 then after that install sgsunlock pro from marketplace and unlock. Worked like a charm
Now lets hope this one doesn't die in a day :S

So even with JL2, the SGSunlock Pro worked, after rooting of course?
Sweet! i will have to do this when i get home!
Worked and using it on Rogers with JL2
Great! Now that i know I can unlock it, "safely" hopefully, i will shell out the $5 to do it!
ok, this looks somewhat promising? Im new to this fourm, I've got my GT-19000M Samsung Galaxy using Bell Mobility. I am dying to root this thing and patch Lagfix on it for months now. Im currently running Froyo 2.2 Stock. I have tried nothing, and willing to do something when i find the perfect information so i DONT brick my phone. Could ANYONE help a brother out?
What is the difference between the PRO and the free one? I tried the free one and it did not work.
EDIT: I just went ahead and purchased the PRO and it worked.
Running Bell JL2
Who else?
Anyone else try this easy-peasy method and have it work successfully to get them off Bell and onto anther? I'd be curious what other carriers the i9000m on JL2 unlocked with this method to work with.
I'll be getting my replacement any day now and may root/unlock before putting it up on Kajiji.

Galaxy Ace S5830 Unlock issue?

I've inherited my sons Galaxy Ace 5830 as my fishing phone which is a UK phone on O2. My main phone is an S4 on O2 too so no problem there.
I've rooted it and installed a few Roms with no issue on my current Sim
I now wish to run it on a different Sim I have but I've not unlocked it before rooting so the Galaxy Ace Unlock/Busybox unlock method fails.
I'm assuming I need to go back to the standard Rom to do this? I've asked O2 for the Unlock code but they appear to be deaf currently even though my son is still with them upgraded to a SG3 Mini
I use Mac computers at home so I'm hoping I can just download the original Rom from somewhere? and install from the SD Card? I've searched and all the info I can find mentions Odin to get back to standard Rom?
Just looking for some pointers really cheers

Odin is really recomended, but there is another way. You can install a custom stock based rom from recovery.
For example, flash the stocklite rom through recovery and then try the method to unlock it.
If it still fails, then get hold of a windows pc and install odin.
