ok , time for me to be a newbie again, problem is i hate the gps coming on with my camera. im hoping i can change something in the OS to fix this . can someone suggest where i need to go to find the setting to do this . thanks in advance
You can only disable gps on the stock Camera app. If you have SGS camerahack or any Rom hacked camera package your SOL.

Is there a bootloader or something like it.
So I can install and use the 2.2 ROM and whene I need the camera, I can switch to the 1.6

I know, there are a million GPS related threads. I thought maybe some of you could help my understand how it can "find" my location so quickly, but updates it so slow afterwards?

Yeah for example, when I am on the highway, as soon as I launch the app it will pinpoint where I am pretty accurately, but doesn't really update as I continue to drive down the road.
I just thought, if it could lock on so quickly on first try why can't it continue to update at that rate?
Clue i see is the rom you have installed as its the usual suspect .
Or you do not have a mobile data connection on and the maps can not download as you drive along .

I suggest that you try the stock rom first to make sure that it's a ROM issue (and not hardware issue or your inability to control the navigation app).
If all works fine on the stock rom, try different roms until you find one that works.

What modem are you using? Modem matters much more then ROM (unless Darky does stupid sh!t to mess it up which wouldn't surprise me).

I guess this would be a good idea, I will try it. Right now I'm on Darky's 9.3XWJS5 and baseband is i9000XXJPY.
I'm on Bell Mobility Canada if that matters
I did a Firmware OTA last week and since then i feel the LAG on my Galaxy Note...
Symptoms are more Visible while Performing the Scroll in the Contacts...
Scrolling mp3 in the MediaPlayer .. While Opening SMS message it kinda LAG while opening ... I tried Factory reset & stuff like that ... nothing improved the Performance.
What is the Problem ? anyone else is facing this isssue ?...
It so Sucks to see this on a Galaxy Note which has 1.4Ghz dualCore Processor and 1GB RAm. huh...
I really feel like going back to old Firmware that i had when i brought the phone in Jan/2012.
any help suggestions to me ? ... dont feel like using the Galaxy note at all due to this lag ...

Try to factory reset device, it will remove if any system junks.
Note it will wipe off data.

I did that Twice ... 1st time from "Privacy Settings"...
and Second time from "*2767*3855#" ...
One thing i noticed .. If i restart the Mobile and initial 10mins i feel the Scroll on the Contacts , MusicPlayer & Videos lists .. I see Scroll is fast.
After sometime i feel the real Lag ... I see my Colleague has a Galaxy S2 and if Scroll his Contacts / music Player / Videos ... its damn fast ...
I feel like going back to the Firmware i had while i got the Phone...
I dont even know which Firmware version it had ... Damn i shouldnt have updated this Firmware .
Please help ... anyone else is facing the same issue ?

Sounds like its an app or combination of apps you download/install.

I`am not fond of updates and always try to flash the whole rom. Download the rom for your country/region from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3. Install Odin 1.85. Do a data wipe/factory reset in recovery mode and cache wipe. Go in downloadmode and connect to Odin and flash the unzipped rom you downloaded. Usually that is much better.

I don't know guys why you are facing this problem, I have same ROM n i dont have any issue. It is not necessary but i always like to update my ROM with clean installation.
I mean before update i like to hard reset my device, another thing i never update my device with Kies/OTA. b'coz it erases Root.
So here is best way to get update.
First downgrade to older ROM
N7000XXKL3 ------ 2.3.6 2011 December-------- N7000ODDKL1

Read post #2 of above thread regarding Installation guide.
Now if you are interested then You can get Root + CWM (use my guide)
Now after root, you can have Data backup, you can use Titanium backup / Mybackup Pro
Hard reset device.
Now you can update latest ROM (use same tread as above for ROM)
with using CWM/Mobile Odin
You can restore your data, which you have backed up earlier
( You should not restore system part, as it may inject old junk)
Now you will have clean update ROM on your device.

Well , going by the Good ole saying "First Impression is the best Impression"...
I felt the initial firmware is much better .. hence i used your Step by step Procedure to flash old firmware and here i am .. back to Level 1...
Now I feel my Phone is super Fast ... and I really have to think 100 times from now before i plan to do a Firmware update... I fine with the DEC 2011 Firmware Version.

And now u have old rom handy, (n of course experience to downgrade) so after some time your finger gets itchy to feel new ROM

I'm really new and novice to the Android hacking. in fact, this is the second time I tampers an android phone.
I have a Galaxy S3 Mini I just bought 2 weeks ago,from a guy who have used it for a while. the guy who sold it to me warned me that the wifi and camera does not work because of the root he had done. so i thought i will find the solution by reinstalling an official rom
Now I changed the firmware to an official firmware which was launched december from marocan operator, everything is ok, the Installation was succssessfull, but every time I get an error: kernel panic upload firmware.
My system information are:
GT 8190
android 4.1.2
base band/ I8190XXAMG4
KERNEL 3.0.31 -1332988
it wil really be nice if someone could find me a solution because i've searched all over internet but didn't found solution.
maybe a golden kernel may resolve the problem? but can't find any link.

i've just finished the installation of the i8190XXXAMJ3 with the latest kernel. the phone seems to run smoother than before but after some tests, the message panic kernel upload mode still appears.
i ve also noticed that sometimes the screen lags, maybe the hardware hypothese is valid?
and the apn and wifi still don t work.
any idea ?

im trying to get my camera to open on 4.1.2 (viper rom). i sent my phone to htc to fix the purple camera, it came back updated to sense 6 and my sim-unlock was gone (they mustve put in a new motherboard)
so i RUU'd back to 1.29 base and now my camera wont work even with stock kernel. are there updated camera drivers in the new roms for the new camera units? any help is appreciated.
yes i want to use a 4.1.2 rom, i read that i need matching firmware to get voice working on gsm in the usa

how much do you cost the fix of the purple camera?
& i dont thing you need a camera driver, the driver are supposed installed with the RUU, so, should be another reason.

it was free, i just paid for shipping there, but it took a month while they waited on parts. supposedly wasnt just my camera but they fixed whatever else for free too. they mightve discovered the simlock was gone, even though i relocked my bootloader, reset the tampered/relocked flags, and set s-on. the lady on the phone told me they would charge me if my phone was rooted
was it under warranty??
do you know the price for it to get fixed? I m experiencing the same problem
