Posted this over at the Nexus S forum too, but no answers. Maybe better luck here?
From what I have gathered the SGS supports a lot more video/audio formats than Nexus S out of the box (correct me if I am wrong). Will it be possible to port these codecs from the SGS over to the NS?
Anything is possible.. The question is, does anyone WANT to put in the effort to do so? This would probably be better in a Nexus S forum though.
Hmmm, well I suppose it is very interesting to play more media files on the Nexus S if the case is that the SGS supports a lot more codecs...
For now, you'd need the TouchWiz framework.

The ROM of the HTC HERO is already on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533808
The HD and Hero share some hardware so ...
What would be the problem when porting the Android HERO ROM to the HTC Blackstone.
Does anybody think that it will be possible to run it on the HD in the future?
No, the HW is not identical.
The fact that they have the same CPU doesn't mean that the HW is the same.
The issue can be:
1. Lack of drivers for Android platform for HD.
2. Lack of people to finalize the Andriod port on HD.
and some others.
Use search please as this question was asked a zilion times before.

That's why I said that they share "some"of the HW..
(I read almost all the android topics and the forum search function did not work today..)
1] This indeed seems to be a problem also in the first attempt by xmoo and others
2]Tuxhero has moved his android porting work to http://www.androidkernel.org/
I think that the most difficult part is to have at least an Android version running on HD. Any version. Afterwards will be more simple to have any android flavor on HD.
So keep the finger crossed for tuxhero.
Same specification doesn't mean they run exactly the same hardware. Display controller might be different, various controllers are different (and so are the registers), it's not as easy as people might think when it comes to porting OS to different devices. I see this as a common misconception and people usually don't (or won't) understand until they go through it (which obviously usually they don't as they prefer someone else does the things for them).

I couldn't agree more..
I would like to be able to programme it myself, but it's an illusion to finish it before 2012 ...
I'm not really interested in Android, but the TouchFlo3D "Sense" is astonishingly amazing and i really hope to see that feature ported to the Blackstone..
The fact that you need to have the knowledge about linux kernel (plus phenomenal programming skills of course) is probably the hardest thing in porting android. Besides, blackstone isn't as affordable as other devices are, so to have people who really are committed to porting android would probably be a big bless.
There was one time when I actually thought about selling my blackstone and get G1/Magic instead..
This will be great!

What are the hardware differences then? I guess that would be step one of porting... How can you write drivers or search for drivers if you do not know what your looking/programming for?

Though i fight for HTC's, last night a friend with a iphone 3gs came to me and started telling me how great it is etcetc. So i told him to make a small demonstration.
The first thing he did show me was the installer and cydia, where tons of people write apps and stuff and oh boy i was impressed.
Next thing he showed me was a app called shazam, it was a small app that could recognize every song that it could hear so i was impressed as well. ( installed a wm6 version of it on mine and didnt work nearly good as it did on iphone )
Scrolling is great, its ui is great, everything runs really smooth and i kinda miss that feeling.
Now if they do write a turn-by-turn gps app like destinator or igo, i am dumping my blackstone in like seconds.
Sorry but it feels that way

iGO will release soon their iGO My Way for iPhone.
But don't dump your backstone just yet. There are still fundamental limitations in iPhone that I couldn't live with.
Your are bound to iTunes, movies all need transcoding (iPhone lasks mass storage for USB apart from HD and for movies you need tools to convert them for iPhone), you are bound by apple accesories (like in house connectors while HD has mini USB). and if I dig more I can found many more things that are not so cool about iPhone (no ROM development like for Hd that gives you some real new things).

Shazam MusicID is also available for WM, I have it om my MIRI 6.5 ROM and it works perfect.
You can find it on piratebay, in one of the threads, and it is also included in Dutty's ROMs.

Like i said, i installed musid id on my hd, and i had them next to the iphone trying to identify the same songs and it had a success rate of 50%
Very possibly the most useless reason to get an iPhone I have heard so far...

Then I show you these things:
- You can ask your friend to watch a video clip on youtube and you'll be proud of your HD.( HD is high definition and larger screen, faster than Iphone, I'm sure)
- Ask your friend to take a photograph and compare
- Compare with your friend how many application he can get with Iphone?
- Try to utilize your GPS speed
- To me, HD is for high class man and Iphone is for women
- Moreover, Iphone has exclusive Multi-touch right? But you can zoom by double touch . Ask your friend how inconvenience in terms of exchanging files ( connect to cable, go to Iphone center.) How convenience when you have a bluetooth
How can you fight for HTC when you dont know what are the strengths of its??!!
Hello everyone. Just picked up a second-hand SGS - best phone I ever had!
Anyway, so far I'm still on stock 2.2.1. What I'm looking for is a ROM that supports both TV-Out (3.5mm to RCA) and the Wiimote / Classic Controller / Datel Wireless Retro Controller.
Together, they'd make the SGS the perfect retro gaming console.
I know CM7 supports the Wiimote, but not TV-Out. I know most other ROMs support TV-Out, but not the Wiimote.
So is there any possibility to have both yet?
If not, would it be hard to do?
Maybe copy the Bluetooth implementation over from the Nexus?
Or any chance that the TV-Out will work on CM7?
I hope those are legitimate questions. Looking forward to your input.

I did a lot of searching on the web and cm7 is the only way i know off.
I would kill for tv output and wiimote support both in a rom.
Does anyone know if Darky's ROM (preferably the newest one) would rectify the problem with the BT that stops Wiimotes from working?
any progress?
I've not tested it, but I think the tv-out is working on cm7, maybe not completely nor perfectly but you should look for more informations in the CM7 Q&A thread.

I follow the CM7 development forum closely (as well as using the ROM). TV-OUT is not yet implemented.
I *suspect* that it is being worked on but there are no ETA's.
Well I follow the CM7 development forum closely too, and I think I've read some time ago that the tv-out was working, but there is no settings yet (like there is nothing in the menus about it).
But maybe my memory is not as good as it used to be, as I can't find the post in the thread.
All roms sans CM7, MIUI (based on CM7) and the sense port use samsungs bluetooth stack, which is incompatible with the wiimote. Yes, this includes your beloved Darky ROM. CM7 has basic TV-out support but it isn't fully supported yet. Your best bet is to wait it out for CM7 to support it. I can't wait for wiimote + TV-Out either xD

The HTC Flyer is 1024x600 too and have a single core CPU! This should be portable to the Galaxy TAB. Can somebody do that?
Hi OrionBG
I'm no dev, if wrong, pls accept my apolagize and pardon me.
But the hardware are different, Cortex versus Qualcomm, in all aspect CPU, graphics, model, etc etc etc.
Driver files ??? Curiously can a dev. just replace the driver files just like that? i.e. desktop windows is complete separate from chipset, graphics etc.... If it's so easy then we are lucky....
But I don't know.... just asking....
It's not that simple, but it is very doable. That the screen resolution matches makes it more simple for sense related stuff.
Would be great to have a play with sense on our Tabs
PS. You should read this
Moving to Q&A.....
Even though a question is related to development its still a question....

I'll take a look at it and see if there's anything usable for my CM7 fix. But I'm guessing this was pulled from a TouchWiz ROM? From what I can tell at first glance, CM7's gps does not use a lot of the stuff found in the rar you posted. Maybe some stuff can be integrated into CM7 directly, but I don't know enough to incorporate it into a fix after the fact.
Maybe someone else can help take a look, but AFAIK I can't use most of this.
Hopefully it'll help out TW-based ROMs.
aosp 4g rom for sprint that has source http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...urce-code-before-the-phone-even-hits-shelves/ might have something there for, might not. Phone is kinda galaxy s ish
I'd hate to break it to you but, the virgin mobile and the bell vibrant are simply rebranded i9000's using these files would be like using i9000 gps files. We wont be able to get 100% fast and accurate gps until our vibrant (sgh-t959) gets its own leak, if it even exists. We won't ne able to get gps with files from even phones that look identical to our phones (t959d) because of their radio bands. Our vibrants are the only galaxy s models (other than the t959V) that get 3G signals on 1700mhz bands. I think to have the 1700 bands, it requires a slightly different hardware radio, this slight difference allows the i9000 gingerbread gps (from jellete) to work but leaves all other files from the i9000 unusable on 2.3.

I also hate to be negative here but it may be that the T-959 is no longer being supported (evidence being that Sam firmwares source only seen the froyo update in the system)
I think that the obly way we will see a spot on GPS is if someone takes the time to hack, crack, and reverse engineer the files we do have and try to figure out where certain things go.
Maybe ... just maybe since cyanogen got a job at Samsung he may be able to convince them to opensource certain things in the better interest of android.
Just a thought lol

This may be a stupid question, but I am curious if the differences between the i9000 and i500 are so great that i9000 ROMs won't even run on i500 hardware. My i500 (Fascinate) is used as a media device and GPS for running/biking. The Fascinate community is stale and I'm curious about playing with other ROMs. I was hoping that the only significant difference was the radio/modem. In which case, I would assume that the ROM would work, but 3G/data would be out of the question (as it already is -- being an inactive device).
Any clarification on this would be appreciated.
