Proxy Settings for Work WiFi - Nook Color General

I finally got the proxy settings for work working properly. I can now browse the Web at work.

Mind sharing this solution? I'd love to use the nook at work, but need to specify a gateway and dns server.

This took me days to find. But it's worth it.
http://gszyszka.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-browse-internet-from-behind.html
enjoy..

I could not get this to work for me. I got Firefox installed and made sure it would browse at home. At work, I fire it up, plug in the network.proxy.http and network.proxy.http.port, then change network.proxy.type to 1. No joy. Note, I'm using the exact same settings as are in my iPod Touch 3G for the same network which works flawlessly (shameless NC/Android dig, sorry). Any tips?
Homer

Ditto, I can't seem to find a clean solution.
So far my best bet is to use connectbot to tunnel all my conections through to my server. I'm not sure how to go about that but we'll see what happens.
I'm about to put Nookie Froyo on this b/c I really want Internet at school.

Would this setting perhaps allow me to use my nook color on a linksys wireless bridge? When the bridge is plugged in, I get a "connected but no internet" and when it's unplugged, I get, "connected to the internet" but with a weak signal.
I'm not sure what the issue is, but the Nook is the only device that constantly has this problem.

A better solution is use Opera Mobile 10 beta and select opera:config. The proxy setting is in there. Works 10 times better then Fennec/Firefox.

but what I really want is something that can proxy the whole system, so that market and gmail and other apps have access to the internet
Are you all sure that there's no solution to that? even as of now?

SlingPlayer problems?

Hi all, I have a weird problem.
I have a tilt and am using the HTC rom, I connect to wifi in my apartment and 3G or HSDPA when I leave the apartment.
When I'm connected through wifi, my Slingplayer works flawlessly, finds my slingbox, and plays the video. When I try to connect outside using 3G/HSDPA, I get "Cannot connect with current connection settings"
I know the Slingbox is working correctly because I can connect to it through a desktop PC without a problem, and I know that the 3G works fine on my tilt because I have no problem loading websites, using mundi, etc.
Any ideas? I've seen a couple other posts on other forums with the same problem but there were no responses on them.
Thanks!
Can you connect to anything else when on 3G?
Try your proxy settings
Did you change the default ports on the SlingBox config?
Are those ports (default or modified) open from the outside of your firewall/router?
If you have the ability to monitor inbound connections try monitoring while you connect through 3G and see if your device attempts on the correct port and that it is NATed to the correct IP and port.
Raptor
I had exactly the same problem with my Belkin router. You need to set up a port on your router in order for it to work. I know on mine it involved setting up a virtual server.
I am using the TyTN II and I am having the same exact problems. I think AT&T killed access to slingbox somehow. I can surf the internet just fine, and then as soon as I start the slingplayer, my connection gets lost and my phone says "cannot sonnect with current connection settings." Any help would be appreciated, especially with the World Series coming up this week.

Possibly a silly point but can you definitely connect over the internet to it? Or just over your LAN?
There's a wizard that enables the port forwarding for you - (called Remote Viewing or something?) should be with the software for the slingbox.
Could be that your desktop is just going direct over the LAN?
Also, I had problems when I was just using the automatic settings to configure the box - in the end it works far better if you ignore the UPnP stuff, and use the manual setup process (or so I found). Again, the desktop software wizard steps you through this.
If you can connect over wifi at home, but not over wifi or 3g when away, then unless AT&T are blocking the ports, its more likely your router settings, as at home you are inside your LAN but elsewhere you have to go through your routers hardware firewall.
Just have a look at slingbox's help files.
SlingBox works fine on AT&T. Check your proxy settings on the phone. Try the "remove hidden proxy" cab. The home router also needs an outgoing port defined as well. Good Luck, I know it can work.
I will bet that it's your router/firewall blocking the incoming net traffic. Try connecting to it from a Friend's internet connection or a public computer at the library or something.
Had a similar problem with slingplayer mobile on my new HTC TouchPro- phone from Vodafone but I put in my T-mobile SIM as I wanted to keep the Web and walk.
Slingplayer worked fine from Vario3 with same sim but not from TouchPro. Eventually unticked the use proxy server in the connection settings and it started to work. Weird, as on the Vario the proxy box is ticked and it works.
Anyway, worth trying if anyone else is having problems.
One of two things, either you have not port fowarded your router to allow the Slingbox to be remotly viewed, go to portfoward.com for exact instructions for your specific router, or your hidden proxy is messing with it. More than likley its not port fowarded correctly. BTW...when your in your home network, i.e... using WiFi, it will work without the router being fwded because your slingbox is already inside your home network. When coming from the outside of your home network through 3g or whatever your router has to allow access to the slingbox.

Slingbox troubles

Can I talk to an AT&T Slingbox user.
I need some serious help.
X
Sure, what's up?
att slingbox user here too. whats your problem? problems that i have had with it were the internet settings werent correct, or it was something with my router and internet connection at home.
Thanks guys,
OK. I just can't get connected. It is killing me. My router is fixed...I talked with Slingbox support and we were able to get it set up to pass through my second router, he was able to connect to my Slingbox.
I'm on Dutty's latest and I just cannot get connected to save my life.
First, the hidden proxy. Do we remove it or restore it?
I have a two router set up. -Do U have the Regestration Key Number?
If so read on....if the answer is no and not hooked to PC call Sling and have them connect first. Then read on.
Now that your PC is connected (two SOLID red dots on Slingbox and watching on your PC) you can connect your mobile device.
-First did you buy the Registration Key ($29.99 on their website?)
-If you have the key.....Did you set up the software on your mobile device?
-Download from here --> http://downloads.slingmedia.com/go/us
-Now that you have both the Key and the software loaded you should be able enter the info under Player>Slingbox Directory>Sling Mobile>Add new Slingbox / or Properties and adjust/enter.
to connect and watch away!
Hope this helps and I should be on for a little. GL

Did you uncheck the proxy in connection settings?
Two router setup?
Why the two router setup? UPnP may not be working or not enabled in the router(s).
Did you setup port forwarding? Port 5001 I believe, forward it to the ip addy of your slingbox which by default is 192.168.1.237. If you setup port forwarding, then UPnP will not be needed.
I just got my Schwingbox last weekend and I *LOVE* it. Its awesome over my WAN, great over the internet, and can somtimes even watch passable video over the EDGE network. Sadly, 3G is nowhere near my area.
It really surprised me how well the slingbox does, even with all the probs the Kaiser has with video. BTW, slingbox is aware of the HTC video probs but so far has not even tried to improve or refine their code ala Coreplayer.
Also, you do not need to a registration key to use the software, it is free to try for 30 days. Also make sure you downloaded the correct version of Slingplayer Mobile. There are two versions, one for smartphones and one for Windows Mobile 6.
Only set up I was faced with...
Nick said it the best above!~
In my current location (Garden Apt) Modem upstairs on first floor the 4 first port router is also upstairs. 2 of thoes ports are hard wired ro PC's in that room that are always in use. the other 2 I ran (bout 120 feet of cable) to the basement where my PS3 and my PC are located. Now I need a Slingbox port!!!!! Second router acts as a hub and relays my pc and the Studbox!
In my opinion I like things hard wired....just the way I am. Nothing against wireless set ups.
Love the Slingbox/DirectTV set up I have going plus with Dutty's ROM's and the right radio for the midwest I have excellent batt life and charge. Slingbox is the way to go!

You do want to disable hidden proxy for sure. I use my Kaiser to Sling via WiFi at home and 3G while away. I use it with the Classic, HD and Solo boxes with no issues. You may need to set an outgoing port for the SlingBox manually (I had to do it manually on my Netgear router).
If you set up the box and connect to your home PC and use the same PC to active sync and install the mobile player onto the Kaiser, then the SlingBox id number will be automatically set on the Kaiser.

Yeah unchecked the proxy.
It was working on Easter weekend just fine.
Now, not working. grrr
If it was working before, and you can watch it through your PC, then uninstalling it on your phone and reinstalling it through the PC setup where it automatically sets up all the options on your phone should work.

Slingplayer with Touch Pro???

Hi,i have a HTC Touch Pro,i dont know the Slingplayer can work on the TP?Or it only work on the Sprint TP and ATT Fuze?Because I try to install the sling but it ask me the IP number,Port number and ID Finder.....I dont know where is it?Can sombody help me?And show me how to play it on the Touch Pro.Thanks...
yes it does work on the touch pro.
what i would do is this,
from your home computer (or any pc you have slingplayer installed) go to your slingbox configuration and copy and paste the Slingbox ID into a text file.
Then copy the text file to your devices storage card.
Open the file on your device and copy and paste it to slingplayer on your touch pro, enter your password and you are good to go
Save the file to your storage card incase you flash your rom in the future and have to reinstall again.
It works great...I also use the above method for brining over my slinbox id...except I have it as a note in outlook...that way after a hard reset it is synced over since I use Blackberry Connect...
Didn't work for me ...
That's funny as I couldn't get the slingplayer mobile app to work on my Fuze. I was even on the phone with their support goup and they couldn't do anything. Of course, they suggested that the phone wasn't on the supported devices list so this was their response when we couldn't get it working.
I'll try following the steps suggested above to see if if works for me. Simply putting the slingplayer mobile app on the phone and launching while synched didn't work.
EDIT: I followed the instructions mentioned above and the player launches. But it doesn't connect. Error = "Unable to connect to Slingbox". The Slingbox Alias is the same as on my laptop, as is the Finder ID. I have the "Use Admin Login" selected with the password. I have a non-traditional internet service where I am and I won't bore you with all the details, but if my laptop is able to connect and watch via the Slingplayer inside my home then I would expect the Fuze to be able to do the same via a wi-fi connection. But it's not working.
EDIT2: It's working now. I believe it was because I was logged onto the Slingplayer via Admin on the laptop and it wouldn't connect on the phone. Once I logged off the laptop and retried the Fuze, it was working. Sweet!
EDIT3: Sweet ... However, streaming image is pretty choppy. Don't recall this on the Tilt.
well if you put in the settings correctly there shouldn't be a problem. However, where are you trying this from. I know if i try to run it while synced with my computer at work, it won't locate properly due to the port being blocked. off of 3g it works just fine.

Are you running the Stock ROM? Because I upgraded to the fuze as well and didn't have those problems. Well at first I did when I was running the stock ROM. Afterwards I flash a Cooked ROM and it was much better. I believe AT&T does something to stop the stream because when I stream now using my Fuze via media net it will stop after about 2-3 min. and say signal is weak but I will have full Bars.

I'm using a cooked ROM (NATF v2.1). I wasn't sure if I was missing some streaming setting or something on the phone app, but it's definitely not smooth of crisp.
Any suggestions?
From the way the original question was asked, I kind of get the feeling that the OP thinks SlingPlayer is a standalone program and doesn't have a SlingBox.
Make sure you have proxies turned off... I think AT&T locked that feature on the stock ROM, but if you are using a cooked ROM then you can disable the proxy and all is well.
I have tried every possible combination and still yet to get my slingbox to run on 3g. Via wireless, everything is great, but each time I try via 3g I get the connections settings are wrong dialog box. On my old 8525, I had my slingbox working perfectly under My ISP (as opposed to wap settings), but I couldn't get those settings to work with my Fuze. Any suggestions? Still running stock rom.
Tony
I'm new to slingbox, but it's working for me. Try going back into setup using the same computer you installed it with. Rerun setup and make sure you enable internet access.
Yes it is properly set up as I can watch it via wireless connection, it's just I cannot get the 3g to work. MEdiaNet didn't work on my 8525 and I set up a new internet connection named "My ISP" which was not based on WAP settings. My slingplayer works perfectly via wifi.

Again, I'm new to SB, but I believe that when you watch it via wifi you are connecting locally, not through the internet. Internet viewing has to be specifically enabled. I had the same issue (after clearing proxy's on the phone) and rerunning setup on the SB and enabling internet sharing worked for me.
Just my .015
Long time Slingbox user - also having the same problem.
Details: Fuze with Elite Rom, Proxy off
Wifi works (both local wifi and remote wifi from office), 3g does not.
I can swap SIM card and it runs fine on 8525 with 3g, but Fuze will not connect unless running on Wifi.
So I can't help you, but at least you're not the only one with the problem!
Fuze with stock rom, proxy's cleared. Works for me.
I'm with Zachoo, I can watch via 3g or wifi on my 8525 to my Slingbox at home, but when I try to use my Fuze, only wifi works. When I try to use 3g I get the box saying cannot connect because my settings are incorrect. When you say to clear proxies, are you refering to Start>Programs>Tools>Proxy Manager>Diable Proxy or Restore Proxy ? Thanks for all your suggestions, but since my SB works on other phones, but not mine, I am sure the SB settings are correct.
check into NAFT rom thread, he has 3 diff .cab files to remove hidden att&t proxies, then it should run like my fuze.
ps: slingmedia really sux in fuze, can't get more than 15fps...

Just a word of caution about setting up Slingbox.... periodically, it seems to lose its router settings and need to be reconfigured for access over the internet. During these times, wifi access at home will continue to work. I have had this happen several times now.

Also, the slingbox listens on port 5001 on your home network so you'll need to open that port on your firewall or use a UPNP firewall.
I was able to install mine on my stock ATT ROM without changing any proxies that I am aware of. I am using the fully qualified domain name of my home network rather than the sling player ID number. If you're using a DynDNS like thing you may try FQDN instead.
Good luck..
New version out.

Connection trouble with BB Connect on HTC FUZE

I installed BB Connect .106 onto my HTC FUZE and actually got it working, new PIN, IP address, everything seemed fine.
BUT. . .
I found that I could not connect to the internet or get emails, even though the connection settings clearly showed me as being connected to Media Net.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a workable solution? FWIW, I do acually have a Blackberry plan (BIS) in use with my Bold, but I would like to have the option to switch between the devices as I wish.a
What, no one??? No one at all???
I am using about the same config as you, but all is working fine here. Keep in mind:
1. You have to set up a correct connection (APN) for all internet traffic but BBC (which uses its own non-configurable APN)
2. When you click on an internet link in a Blackberry message, your browser tries to use the BBC set APN to get the page.
3. When you browse to an URL in IE or Opera your browser tries to use the (self set) internet conection APN.
Maybe this helps you solve your problem.
Thanks for the reply. When I have more time to experiment I'll check it out.

Wifi problems with CM7 on Nook Color

I'm hoping somebody here can help me. I'm running cm7 on my nook color off of an sd card. For the most part, it's been great. I've been having problems recently connecting to my law school's wifi network.
I can see the network I my wifi settings -- it's listed as having 802.1x EAP authentication. I pull it up and select PEAP authentication (which is what my school says it uses) and then I enter my credentials. At this point, the Nook will connect to the network and get an IP. But that's it. No internet access. If I try to use the browser or dolphin to go to a page it'll just sort of hang there without moving.
Anyone have any ideas?
Try pinging your gateway and beyond, see if your packets are actually getting anywhere. I would think if you're getting an IP address you're okay, but who knows.
And are you sure you don't have a required proxy? There's nowhere to specify a proxy in Android, although I believe Opera it has settings for it.
So for our work Wi-Fi you have to sign in with what you already stated, but then after that I have to open up my web browser to sign in there as well.
Not sure if you have a similar situation or not.

I don't know about cm7 but cm9 does have a menu item to specify proxy setting in the advanced menu.
Depending on the type of device providing the wireless, I've also noticed that it helps to make sure your device name doesn't have a "-" in it.
It took me quite a while troubleshooting my sisters to figure that out. In her case it was a d-link wireless that was the issue.
There was a pretty good thread on this a while back that listed a bunch of troubleshooting steps.
