Can you change the system font? - Nexus S Themes and Apps

I've installed the Superuser app and can access /system/fonts. With my old Vibrant, I could copy DroidSans.ttf, Clockopia.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf from another font like Comforta to /system/fonts and that would work.
If I try to copy those same files to the Nexus S's system/fonts the phone gets stuck in the Nexus boot animation and I have restore my nandroid backup to get the phone to boot up.
Has anyone been able to change the font on their phone?

I changed the font using the app font installer...

Just make a flashable zip and flash it through recovery

I flashed a zip in recovery and that worked fine. I'm not sure why I couldn't copy the *.ttf files like before on my Vibrant but it works via recovery.

help with metamorph bootanimation

Hi. I am looking for some help with an issue I have. I have downloaded a boot image zip and it doesn't work. I have sir psychos. Recovery thing from when I rooted and have changed the booyimage file. The one from system/media. (I think that's where it is ) but wanted to know if there is a different file to change since I'm using a custom boot image already? Thanks a lot
I'm using the stock ROM and have 2.0.1 on the Motorola Droid
What kind of ROM are you using. The Nexus boot animations you just need to push your new one to /system/media if you are on 1.5 or 1.6 ROM then its in /system/framework-res.apk/assets/
am i doing it right?
I'm using the terminal emulator and. Adb push bootanimation.zip. system/media. Is that right? It says file does not exist. Where should I put the file before I push it? SD card root? Thanks for the help

[Q] Change Font?

Can some one please explain to me how to change the fonts on my HTC Eris? Do I need to metamorph or is this something different?
This answer assumes you have root privelages on the phone.
All metamorph does is replace the current /system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf with a different font (named the same).
You can also manually update the 2 afformentioned fonts in /system/fonts. You will need to name them as indicated above and reboot your phone.

Check out my font thread (link's in my sig). If you're rooted, they should work for you.
Do I just put the font zip onto my phone and use metamorph? I do have root access I just need to know how to flash it to my phone.

If you're talking about my zips, they don't use metamorph or anything - you want to flash these through recovery
so i just boot the phone into recovery and apply the zip?

exactly - you should have the option to "flash zip on sdcard" or something simailar
Why not try the app type fresh? I used that to change my fonts. It's really easy all you do is find the fonts you want and just use the app to change them.
easy way to change font with a simple script

[FONT][WIP][HELP]Comfortaa font

so i've made a flashable zip of the comfortaa font, but for some reason it puts the phone into a bootloop upon flashing.
anyone wanna check the files out and point out what the problem is? thanks,
Cole
Are you rooted? If so, just use Custom Android Font or Font Installer from the Market. You will then have over 150 fonts to choose from, including Comfortaa.

Post above this is probably a better and easier option, but looking at the zip, I'd pull out the DroidSansFallback, Clockopia, and DroidSansMono , then flash and see if u get the same results.
I haven't investigated fonts too much in ICS, but in previous builds (gingerbread), the flashable font zip really just needed to have DroidSans.ttf, DroidSans-Bold.ttf and Clockopia.ttf to replace your font.

any help is appreciated
i just tried to re-do it like 5 times in a row, took out the fonts mentioned, pulled a different updater script and update binary and still no luck :/
the steps i'm taking are,
1. build all the files in the correct folders
2. zip all the files compression method Store with winrar
3. put the files in my SignApk folder
4. sign the files
5. take the zip and install via recovery
then i just boot loop :/

You don't have to do all of that, unless you're just trying to do the script yourself as a challenge .
Find a working flash able font zip (check evo themes section), use 7zip to replace and remove fonts, and see if that works. If it does, then u can go script happy from there, knowing that those contents worked at least.

Changing fonts in ICS

Has anyone had luck changing fonts in ICS? I've tried the obvious app solutions, as well as flashable .zip's, and even renaming the desired font to the same one as is in the /system/fonts folder and replacing it that way. Ideas?
...probably falls under your "tried all the obvious" courses of action, but the only way I've ever universally changed the fonts is through jrummy's "Root Tools" ...though I haven't tried it on AOKP yet.

I think I finally got it. I had taken SonySketch (desired font) regular, bold, italic, and bold-italic, and masked each of them with the proper name found in the /system/fonts file and made them into a flashable .zip but this didn't fix it. Today, I just dropped all of them into a folder on my SD card, and used Root Browser to copy-paste them over from my SD to /system/fonts and rebooted...VIOLA! The entire phone has been changed. I'm going to try making a flashable .zip again though so that it's easier to share.
EDIT: Here are the new flashable .zip's. I just took the Steel Droid 5 .zip that was on my desktop and erased everything but the fonts file then duplicated it, keeping META-INF but replacing the stock fonts in the 2nd .zip with the renamed Sony Sketch fonts. Tell me how it goes if you're interested.
Absolute system or from toolbox will change your fonts to whatever you like

Have you tried this in ICS though? Because JRummy's Font Installer doesn't do the trick. No font installer has (Root Tools, ROM Toolbox, Font Installer, etc.) has done the trick yet on ICS. Only my renaming trick has done it for me on ICS. I know all of the switchers work on GB.

[Q] Changes on fonts folder disappear with reboot

I copied Noto Sinhala font (noto-sans-sinhala) to my rooted HTC one with Lollipop (Stock Rom) , it works as soon as i copied the files but when i reboot the phone (simply switch of and on) changes disappear from /system/fonts folder. By changes i meant the copied files.
Please let me know if you have any suggestion.
I'm just a newbie on the android stuff.
