[Q] Odin dosent work for me ? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when ever i use odin its stops at file transfer. I did exactly what was advised to do
in the forums, also on my captivate whenever i go to download mode i never see the triangle thingy?

This doesn't belong in Development. My first thought is that it looks like you aren't in Download Mode when running Odin. If you search on methods to get into Download, you'll get a bunch of threads and methods as well.
Edit: Here's a good thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858765

Phone will not ODIN

Today I tired to flash a new ROM on my phone (captivate) and to say the least, it did not work. I tried to revert it back to factory using the ODIN3 One Click Downloader. That did not work. It recognizes the phone in download mode, then when I choose either master clear or start it just hangs. I left it plugged in for like an hour on each mode. I tried restarting the computer. I searched Google, the vibrant, and this captivate forum. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!

make sure odin is open on your computer before you hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb cable with the other end already plugged into your computer.

by the way, questions should go in the question and answer forum which is where I posted the above quote in another person's thread.
Uh dont post questions in development you will get flamed.
Just read the odin stock rom thread and you will find all the answers.

Does it hang at the white ATT logo? Because I got that for a while, but just kept trying and it came around. I reckon it was because I hadn't kept up on reconditioning my battery.
Sorry guys, should I move this to the Q&A forum, or maybe just next time.
It isn't hanging at the ATT logo, it actually goes into download mode. I tried opening the program first too as well, still nothing.
Wow that was weird, I tried it one more time. With the window (ODIN) open first. Went completely text book. Thank you all for your help. One way or another it fixed the problem.

You always open up ODIN first then go into download mode for future references.

[Q] Have I bricked my S2 whilst rooting? Can get to downloads screen.

Hi, all.
I used Heimdall to flash the kernel as part of rooting my new phone. The messages in the terminal window looked good and I got the blue progress bar. The phone rebooted and I got a yellow warning triangle and everything freezes. I downloaded a kernel image from Samfirmware and now the phone boots without the yellow warning, but no other change. It still gets stuck. Can anyone help or is my phone bricked?
I can boot into download mode and am using a Linux PC.
At the moment, my options seem to be:
1) Use Heimdall to flash something? I have a 400meg download from Samfirmware, but don't know how to flash the files besides zImage, using Heimdall.
2) Get a USB dongle from eBay to reset the page that says I've altered the handset. This means I should be able to take it back to T-Mobile.
3) Go to a Samsung service centre and potentially pay lots of money to have the phone repaired. Anyone know how much this is (in the UK)?
Thanks,
Chris.
Actually you don't need to do that , as long as you can access download mod then your phone is fine , what you need to do is this :
- Download a stock rom including all stuff (PIT . PDA . PHONE . CSC . BOOTLOADER ) and also Odin 3 v. 1.82 Don't use another flashing software (as far as i know the one you used is still new and it may still have a lot of bugs so its better to use odin) .
You can download all the files i told you to on this page : http://www.androidgen.fr/tutoriel-s...id-gingerbread-2-3-6-odin-article-2110-2.html
Its in french but i don't think you will find problems finding the download links ^^
- After you get all the files place them according to the page each one at its right place in odin and make sure that "Re-Partition is checked .. and hit start
if all goes right your phone will reboot and work again
Good luck
Edit : This files are for S1 , your're asking for help about an S2 i suggest you post it in the correct section or download similar files for the S2 and follow the same steps
Thank you, zizou.
I'm sorry I posted in the wrong area, I'll try again.
Sorry I wasted your time.
Chris.

[Q] 40yr old with little tech sense compared to you guys needs help

Hi all, I have searched and searched on here for what I need but just cant seem to find it. my GT-S5830 will go into dload mode but when i reboot it gives me the exclemation phone to pc sign. I have dloaded the "S5830XWKTR_S5830H3GKT4_S5830NEKT2_HOME.tar.md5" file and numerous versions of odin of which I now believe that "odin Multi_Downloader_v4.43" is the correct one for me. I think I am missing other files but am not sure. When I press start I get the message "unamed file not found" and in corner i get "killer timer"
I know this forum is designed for new users to learn for themselves and must use the search facility's etc to gain knowledge however I am an OLD new user and was wondering if anyone could help me sort this phone out. I recently rooted it (or at least I think i did) then tried to put new rom on it previous to getting the exclemation symbol. I now am trying to restore it to factory settings unrooted with my 3 carrier. maybe so that I can then root it and install new rom.... thats if I dont find getting my phone back to working condition to complicated..
Thanks in advance for any help and I am sorry admin if I am posting unhelpfully, I dont wish to clog the forum.

Bootloop finally fixed

My first post. To begin I'm not a phone techie so I might get the jargon mixed up but I hope someone will find this helpful.
My phone 'soft bricked' and got into a bootloop. This has happened before whereupon I took is to a phone shop to get it fixed. This time I did it myself after many hours of reading tutorials and trial and error of flashing the firmware and the help of xda forums..
Finding the right version of Odin and getting the right stock firmware that actually loaded onto the phone was the main battle.
Unfortunately as I'm a newbie I not permitted to post links. You have to go to Andriodjinn.com and search for unbricking gt-s5830i. On the page you will find a link to the firmware that works, Click on the one that says Australian link, you get a package with four separate files.
Next you got get the right version of Odin and quite honestly some the guides are a joke. The version of Odin that works with the above is and your phone gt-s5830i is Odin3 v1.85.
There are four separate files, bootloader, pda, modem and csc. Make sure all are entered into Odin.
I didn't find a PIT file necessary and besides there is no PIT file in the above package. All the steps are given in the above web page mentioned, so I wont go through those.
I hope this is of help to somebody and shortcut all their trial and error and Odin 'Fails' as I had.
