Basically I was messing around, and removed a Google application, market now doesn't work.
Tried changing the notification bar color, now my phone is stuck at the boot screen.
I have no idea what to do from here to get it working. I don't have the money to buy a new phone seeing it's rooted, voiding the warranty.
Anyone know how to manually make my /system/ directory rw so I can push the original framework-res.apk onto my phone?
According to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768697 thread you can access the recovery mode by pressing holding the vol up+ power button, from there you should be able to flash your phone...

the corporate store reps will not know its messed up because you did it. just take it there and just tell them it just stopped working. the reason I give you this advice is because of the poor software on the zio that wont let you recover a phone from a simple thing... again just take it to the corporate store get it swapped under warranty you pay $20
ha ha they told me it was 60 bucks for a warranty on the phone cuz the pos wont boot i told them to suck it ill buy a used htc for that price
and all i did was factory reset the damn phone it started acting up. so i factory reset it after a week in a half of having the phone sent to me from mycricket.com and they tell me since i didnt have insurance that it was 60 im like its not my fault the phone is utter trash im going to take it to another store the guy at the cricket store was a tard
I went ahead and bought an Ascend.

Wow. Tough beans.. The ascend is an inferior phone. Sorry to hear about the trouble.
Had we had our own section when this was going on, I probably would have been able to help you.
Did you deodex your ROM on the zio before editing your notification bar?
All you needed was a stock system.img from someone, then boot up into fastboot, and flash the image back to /system o.0
heck try rerunning the update???? maybe you can get it to flick over to modem upload mode if you run the update while its trying to boot?????
Check the 1.6 thread toward the last 5 pages. The updater has been leaked and it works perfectly from what I can see.
Step 1 - Go Here

Step 2 - Download
Download both files, Install the drivers first, then run the updater. I did not have to extract the files from the zip in order to update my phone.
Step 3 - Prepare
Now this is where you prepare the phone for the update. If your phone is bricked pay attention. My phone was a total brick after I used rom manager when I first got the phone, Put your phone into Modem Download Mode by holding the Volume + and - and the power button at the same time.
If your phone is still running Donut 1.6 all you have to do is have the drivers installed on your computer and have USB debugging enabled on your phone.
Step 4 - Update
Now is the time to update to 2.2 Explore MR SW for Zio 2.2 Uprade_ 2.000CR.5_HW0104 - Final.zip and run the Windows Installer Package.
Step 5 - Relax
Run the updater and it will put your phone into Modem Download Mode, It only took about 5 minutes to update my phone after being bricked for about 3 months.
Step 6 - Froyo
Your phone has now been updated to 2.2 and you are ready to re-root your phone and have fun with your "new" phone

Hi guys,
UK G1 (Dream) phone recently updated to the 1.6 build, all working fine.
Yesterday I tried installing the free app Shop Savvy. the phone resetted itself after install and sat on the G1 boot screen permanently.
Now phone will pass this boot screen (Tmobile G1)
Tried:
Recovery mode - will not work at all
Quick boot - brings up the multicolour screen but does nothing after.
**PHONE IS NOT ROOTED**
looks like I have had the phone JUST over a year, not looking good...
Any ideas?
You can boot in to the SPL/bootloader so thankfully you haven't bricked
If you're on a contract with tmo you could take it back to the store and they should give you a replacement, but where's the fun in that?
If you want to fix the problem yourself, all you need to do is downgrade to firmware 1.1, then accept the OTA update to 1.6.
Here's the procedure:
1)Put the phones SD card in to a card reader and format as fat32
2) Extract this file and copy it to your SD card as 'DREAIMG.nbh'
3) Put the card back in the phone and hold down power and camera to boot in to the bootloader.
4) Flash it. (Action button is the trackball).
It's a good idea to leave the charger plugged in and have a decent amount of charge in the battery (eg 40%+).
Afterwards the phone will restart and you will need to re-enter your google account info. All your apps and data will be gone, but there's not much we can do about. You can set things up and install apps while you wait for the prompt to update.
Thanks alot AdrianK,
Really appreciate the steps and info, nice one
I have done some flashing on other phones etc so I have no problem with this. However, I am wondering how a normal app such as Shop Savvy could corrupt my ROM and am wondering if it might not be better to get a new phone as this one could have hardware fault?
What do you think?
Silver.
OK,
did exactly as you said Adrian. Phone went through all the flashing routine then, right at the end said press action button to continue (trackball) every time I press the trackball phone returns to the bootloader screen
What now?

Thanks but unfortunately I have already tried that.
Phone just sits on the G1 boot screen as before...
Any other Ideas?
is that ROM you linked for me a UK ROM Adrian?
Once you get to RC7 use these to build back upto 1.6

Yeah that's the RC7 ROM, the UK ROM for 1.1. RC29 is 1.1 for US phones.
This is all very odd, especially that it was an app that caused it, or as you suggested possible hardward failure. Oh well, I guess all you can do now is take it back to tmo.
Hi guys
So after unsuccessfully trying to root my G1, I changed my mind on the mastter and decided to keep it stock OS. I managed to get back to Android 1.0.
I’ve put a formatted and FAT32 SD card in the phone, with RC8 (UK phone) on it named update.zip (file ext hidden in windows).
I boot up the phone holding home key, ALT L then ALT S. It boots successfully saying things like ‘package verified’ etc until it says ‘install complete’. Then it says ‘press home+back to reboot your phone. When I do that it says ‘writing radio image’ then reboots. When it turns back on it has a picture of a sim card and an arrow or a phone and a box then reboots again. And here lies the problem: it never leaves the G1 screen (the first screen displayed when powering on the device. I’m able to power into recovery mode and fastboot mode, and from fastboot mode I can recover the phone by flashing to 1.0 via DREAIMG.NBH, but I really want to be running 1.6.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks
What phone are you using...a UK G1 or a US G1, as your trying to flash a UK rom...(rc8) have you tried flashing RC29? After flashing to android 1.0 it will prompt you to update your phone to 1.6 after that.

That sounds promising I'm trying to flash UK 1.5 RC8. So I have to install this SPL first and then install the software? I'm correct in jumping straight from 1.0 to 1.5 right?

Do I need to flash this SPL? The bottom one on this page http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list?q=label:SPL
it's called G1originalBootloadernocheck.zip or something similar
I wouldn't trust that, but I don't know just hold on. Wait a minute, so you flashed the RC8 rom? Are you sure, how long did you wait at the T-mobile G1 screen for? Try flashing RC8 again and let the phone do it's thing. Wait a max of 10 minutes for the phone to load.

-EDIT-
Why would he want to go back to stock if he flashed 1.0? Isn't that the first thing you do when you root?
After you flash DREAIMG.nbh, give the phone a few days and it will update over the air.

Oh my bad. My lack of attention span prevented me from reading that but to go back to the stock, do what cloverdale said. Reflash your G1 with the RC8 and WAIT for the update. There's no need to do it manually.
Thanks guys! Yes the root looked like it was about to brick my phone so I abandoned it and was feeling overwhelming relieved to even get normal OS back on my phone. So I should just wait for the over the air update (in the UK) and it will automatically bring it up to 1.6 again? Sorry for the late reply, my internet has only just started working, and itll be off again soon!
Why not do it manually btw guys?
Yeah you can just do what cloverdale said, or you can go to the settings(pick it by pressing menu on the phone) and scoll all the way to the bottom to "about phone" I believe there will be an "upgrade" option but I'm not quite sure . You can do it manually by dling the upgrade off the internet somewhere but it's probably better(on the safe side) to just download it from your phone.

Yes, just give it some time and it will update to 1.6 (or maybe 2.0/2.1). I would suggest waiting of the OTA update and not doing it manually simply because I what I read about your reactions to rooting. I am not trying to be mean when I say this, but the stress it seemed to cause from starting the rooting process may be recreated through a manual flash. Take life easy, relax, and it will update very soon.
OK, no offence taken. I didnt know 2.0 was out for the G1 yet..
I think my rooting went wrong because I didnt flash a radio image or SPL prior to the software - I tried to complete it with limited net access and therefore information, and a non working phone and non working internet is too much of a hinderance as i need these things every day.
I mainly wanted to root it to make the higher end 3d games run smoother via overclocking and use it as a wifi point so i could access the net properly again whilst BT stop ****ing around.
Ok, first of all I know it's been said not to mess with Framework. I read that too late =/
I was trying to install a status bar replacement, which overrides framework-res.apk. It sent it into reboot loop. I can get to recovery screen, but factory reset doesn't do anything of course.
I also can get to bootloader. It gives me the following:
===
Bootloader
29.01
Battery OK
OK to program
Transfer mode:
USB
===
It's connected through USB and bootloader recognizes that. My question - is there a way to push original framework-res.apk back to the phone or is it completely bricked?
I posted in an existing thread about this already, but figured I might have more luck with a new thread.
If you
Code:
adb devices
does it show up? I'm unfamiliar with this type of situation. =p
Oh sorry, forgot to mention that. adb devices doesn't show anything in either recovery nor bootloader.
When connecting through USB and starting bootloader, I can hear the sound of device found on my PC, but it doesn't get found and is listed as "S Flash OMAP3630 MI" with a ? mark in device manager.
Yikes, can't help you with the obvious then (just pushing framework-res.apk again).
Yeah, I was really hoping to somehow get in there with adb
As suggested in another thread, I tried applying .604 update, but it aborts when verifying current system with CityID.apk as a reason. I removed it along with other bloat from the phone.
Also when trying to remove app files I don't have on the phone from update.zip, it fails when verifying the update file.
hey its me again, take a look at this!
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...your-x-stuck-bootloop-you-want-look-here.html
Thanks for the link!
That guy got lucky cause it bricked after he put all the bloatware back on the phone lol. So he had all the default apps. Mine gets stuck when verifying my system and complains about CityID.apk missing. And as we figured out, your previous suggestion with removing files from the zip messes up its integrity.
So I went to a Verizon store and got a replacement ordered. I was afraid they'd start asking if I'd rooted it, but apparently the guy helping me didn't even know what that is He tried a factory reset and then just ordered a new phone.
Thanks for your suggestions, guys!
He may not of known that the x has been rooted yet lol. Or you can just find something small and miniscule to complain about on you phone to get a new one. When the dare first came out I had a new one at the end of every month just for the fun of it. And they where always replaced with a brand new phone. Did that for atleast 5 months before getting a cheap wm phone because they felt bad about all the hassles I had.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Did the same thing with mine, except my framework file is there, just renamed. I tried last night to figure out how to change the name back with adb but never could.
to the OP, how did you get to that Bootloader? The only thing I have been able to do is get into "Android System Recovery (2e)", which is done by holding Home while powering up the phone. If you hold Home, you'll get a screen with Android next to an exclamation point sign. At that screen you can press Search to open up the menu system, and then you have the ability to reboot, apply update.zip from microSD, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition.
I am trying to get into ADB so I can potentially work on this phone and fix it. At the moment I am boot looping like nobody's business
-EDIT-
Found the answer myself on this forum: "Hold down the power+vol down+camera button."
This works, but from what I can tell, it puts the phone into a basic USB flashing mode that is useful if you wanna reflash the ROM. At the moment there isn't anything available which could be flashed onto the phone (need to wait for an SFP file?), so I'm stuck waiting.
If/ when the 2.2 update leaks, I believe I can at least try to install that via MicroSD while in System Recovery Mode. I already unbricked my phone once by doing that, but then removed exactly the wrong APKs so now I cannot use that trick a second time
Yep, that was exactly my experience. If I didn't remove bloat apk's, I'd be able to apply .604 update, but...
And yeah, bootloader doesn't do much at this point since we have no way/no ROM's to load.
As far as I remember, Verizon have one month return policy, so I'd suggest just taking it to them. I had my replacement ordered with no questions asked. I just said I was installing an app and it rebooted and went into a loop.
I really need some help with my Zio m6000 cricket junk. I bricked it and can't figure out for the life of me how to fix it.
I read post after post in this forum and did everything I can think of and nothing is working. I have all the programs I think I need to dump the rom on my pc. None of them will even read that the phone is connected to the pc.
I sent message after message and only a few have responded but none knew how to help me. I thank those who did try though. I know there has to be a way to unbrick a Zio phone by now. None of the posts in the forum explain this in full detail because they are ALL from a year or more ago, or just don't explain in todays times how to do it.
I'm so close to just taking my hammer and smashing the phone and take the total loss with it. I can't affored to buy another phone, and Cricket service eats a **** for helping me replace the phone.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME INSTAL, RUN, PROGRAM WHAT NEEDS PROGRAMMED OR WHATEVER IT IS I NEED TO DO TO GET MY PHONE WORKING AGAIN????????
TC
(SOLVED)
I'm not the most experienced, so I am not entirely sure if this will work, but I know it fixed my bootloop issue. Have you tried doing a factory restore? To do so, hold the power button and the volume down button. A screen will pop up, simply navigate using your scroll ball and select the factory restore option. Note that this will erase all Apps and user data on the phone (mine stayed rooted and kept some of the settings I changed via file manager). Sorry if this doesn't help, I hope that you figure it out soon. I'm sure some people on here can help you more than I can.

THANK YOU SINISIN.

Any ideas on why its not working for me?
Thanks again everyone for helping
I have an AT&T Note 3. I was rooted using the KINGO app, but returned my phone to stock several weeks ago and the rom shows official and the knox count is 0. I am running the stock AT&T Note 3 Android 4.3
The other day, an official AT&T android update was pushed to my phone. The update bricked my phone and now I am unsure if I can even recover what was on my phone...or at the very least get it running again. For now, I am without a phone.
When I can get the phone to power up, the phone attempts to "Recovery Booting" (this is displayed in blue letters in the top left corner with the galaxy Note 3 Logo in the middle). It tries to install this AT&T update following the recovery wording when powering it on normally and when using Volume UP/Home/Power . The update progresses towards 100% then "completes" sometimes, but then the screen goes black and the phone does not start back up. I have to remove the battery for a period of time and replace to get the phone to do anything
I can get the phone to go into download mode (Volume down/Home/power), but my phone did not have USB debugging turned on the last time I was able to access the options, so it is not recognized by kies/odin, etc!
Even though their update caused the problem, AT&T wont help me (over the phone or at the store) as my phone is over a year old...their solution is to buy a new phone and plan as they say they can't do anything to fix the phone.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Can you get into recovery?..if so try to factory reset then maby you will be able to power up get to developer options and turn on debug so you can use odin...other option..I have heard of some doing this..go to Bestbuy Samsung counter..ask them if they have the odin tool. If they do they may be able to get you up and running.

Don't worry bro.
Just follow this post to put your phone back to stock and get it rooted again. My phone used to brick and I went through it.
Follow the steps carefully, and you'll get your phone back.
