So like everyone else having issues i'll explain mine if anyone cares. I flashed to JL2 yesterday, had it up and running no problem. Decided to go back to a more stable rom because my GPS wasn't stellar. upon flashing back to JK3 my flash went good, the phone rebooted and then got stuck at the busy icon (looks like a flower and usually goes in a circle) anyways, it shows that for a second then reboots.....does this forever. Pulled the battery and boots to the first screen for a second and reboots.
I can no longer get into recovery mode, BUT download mode works. I can flash anything I want, it passes using odin but still does the same. I've tried re-partition using different PIT files, different roms and still no luck. I'm almost at the point to take it back but honesly I dont think this is the SD card issue, I think it was just a bad flash. anyone able to get theirs back from this state??
again, no recovery, only download mode. keeps rebooting, I DO NOT see the S logo.
I've answered you in the UGJL2 thread, hopefully those instructions are clear and they help

You helped and brought my phone back from the dead, followed these instructions.
Flash the file you extracted from Chainfire's ROM in PDA, and have "Phone Bootloader Update" checked, and that's all you should have to do... (I'm using Odin 1.52, if that makes any difference...)
If that fixes it, then Samsung has done it, and if not, then they haven't fixed it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10040911#post10040911
follow that thread if you want more detailed instructions, within the JL2 rom there is a SBL.bin file, when you tick the phone bootloader update it uses that bin and that's what brought my phone back from dead.

Hi Everyone,
I had previously been running the stock I9000 JK3 ROM on my Captivate with xcal's reoriented kernel. Today I decided to install the I9000 JL2 Rom from samfirmware.com.
I started ODIN, entered Download Mode, and flashed the ROM (in the PDA section) with no problem. After the flash had completed, the phone attempted to reboot, but there was nothing but a black screen. I tried every way I know to get into Download mode but nothing works. I don't even get the Phone--!--Computer image that I've gotten in the past when I've messed up a flash.
I've read that this kind of brick occurs when the boot loader is corrupted, and that the only way to fix it is to use a RIFF JTAG box. My question is: what did I do wrong? I flashed many ROMs before, all through ODIN, but was always able to get back to stock if necessary.
My research suggests that it has something to do with sbl.bin. Can someone enlighten me? How can I tell if a ROM will mess up my bootloader? Do ROMs that mess up bootloaders contain the sbl.bin file?
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
If your getting the phone / computer screen you should still be able to restore.
Use the following method to get into DOWNLOAD mode and then Odin 1 click back to stock.
Take out the battery,SIM, and external SDCard
Turn on Odin JH7 1 Click Back to Stock
Plug in your USB cable
While holding down the Volume +/- Button place the batter back in.
If you get the gray battery charging signal - you need to attempt it again. Should go into DOWNLOAD mode and you can restore your phone back to stock.
The SBL.bin is bad mojo if you fubar it as it has important things like being able to use your buttons to get into the different modes (download/recovery). I don't know what else it controls as I'm not a developer.
Also read this on the General thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775911
interesting stuff about the SBL.bin - so Flashers beware!
Thank you so much for the information. Unfortunately, I do not see the Phone--!--Computer icon, and I confirmed that the ROM that was flashed did indeed contain an SBL.bin file. The boot loader is most certainly bricked.
I really think a warning about the SBL.bin file should be stickied somewhere prominent, so other people don't make the same mistake that I did.
Thanks Again
It works for me

Hey,
I'm new to android.
I thought I've read up on everything I'm doing. Making sure to read the threads carefully.
I've rooted my captivate and tried to put OCLF. It said it was successful, except now when my phone was rebooted it shows:
device name (samsung i896)
rogers screen
galaxy s screen
then it goes black and vibrates every so often
I've tried searching and can't seem to find what I need.
If anyone can help, I can boot my phone into recovery mode, but thats about it. Nothing works in there right now,
Can anyone help me get this fixed, or back to the stock rogers firmware that would be great
Thanks!
you can try to use key combination to get into the download mode and flash the stock rom.
if you cannot get into the download mode, my suggestion is to build a jig or buy one:

I'm kind of lost on flashing back to the stock rom. I'm looking at other threads on how to do so, but something isnt working when I try.
Someone please help!
I'm experiencing the same problem even after flashing Rogers stock (2.1 and 2.2) with Oden and Heimdall. All flashing indicates they were successful; however, I still get the black screen, lit touch icons, and vibrations after the three boot screens/animations.
EDIT: Problem was solved for me by flashing a stock file that contained dbdata.rfs and param.lfs with 512.pit and repartitioning. The Odin flashable Rogers 2.1 stock ROM I put together can be found here. Because it is complete, it will also remove the AT&T boot screen if you flashed an AT&T ROM.

Have you tried flashing AT&T or Rogers stock?
Hello all and thx in advance.
ATT Captivate batch 1010
I had Cognition 2.3 I think on my phone and it worked great however I wanted to try a different ROM so I attempted to restore my phone to stock using ODIN one click. I realized after that that I never disabled the voodoo lag fix or deleted my user data.
Now I am stuck in a boot loop that either shows the white ATT logo screen flashing every couple seconds or the phone off charge screen re starting every couple seconds.
I bought a USB Jig and it works great so I can get into D/L mode easily but I have tried flashing the stock firmware at least 6 times now using different machines, different ports, different versions of ODIN and I've searched around these forums and others for several hours trying to find a solution. It seems that I needed to erase my user data in recovery mode and removed the lag fix before I did this but it is what it is. I have tried to get to recovery mode to no avail. All I can get to is download mode.
Any ideas on what I should/can do?
any help will be greatly appreciated.

I think that you may need to use the Froyo Odin (JI6).

please help, i have the same problem, was flashing back to stock from a serendipit 5.12 so that i could get the 6.0 version... all went as planned until odin said "reset" which was my cue to unplug and that the process was complete.... i unplugged the phone and tried to reboot and now it does exactly as the first post described, at&t logo then black screen, then back to the at&t logo then black screen again... my computer doesnt recognize my phone none of the methods of getting to download screen will work... no matter how many times i pull the sd, sim, and batt, no matter the button combination i use or which order i use them in.... same result... i cant afford a new phone i need help, i will donate also... i knew this stuff was over my head, but "curiosity killed the cat" i guess...
I had the exact same problem. Try this method, it's the one that worked for me when all others failed... But remember to follow it EXACTLY.
1. Pull out the battery.
2. Hold Volume UP+DOWN (Don't let go of them until you see the download screen).
3. Stick in the USB (which is connected to the computer).
4. Put the battery back in.
If not, you might need to get a USB Jig.
That Froyo Odin link worked!
Thanks guys I flashed to Froyo and it worked!
I've since flashed clockwork recovery and gotten Serendipity 6.1
As far as getting into download mode I had to use one of the USB jigs.
I ordered one from the guy who does the rom reviews but you could make one as well.
On another note the new ROM seems to be discharging my battery really fast
Before I start investigating it as a problem I am going to charge it completely then let it discharge completely to calibrate it.
Thanks again guys
Rob
I just fixed mine last night, I had the exact same problem because of the exact same upgrade. What you need to do is get or make a usb jig. There's a couple resources around here for how to do it.
Here's a video showing how to make one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdn5GoRjhn0
Once I got my phone into download mode, I used Darky's ROM Resurrection Edition ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671 ) to restore my phone. Just scroll down to where it says "Files Needed" and download the Captivate version. Once you have that downloaded, use the jig to put your phone into download mode and follow the directions in the Darky's video (jump to about 2:30 into the video). Once I had my phone booting, I used clockwork to install Serendipity 6.
Hope that helps you as much as it helped me!!
went to radio shack, got all the stuff to make a jig and i was able to get my phone into download mode! now to try darko...... thanks everyone!
odin doesnt reconize phone
which odin3 are you using? 1.7? or the one click to stock?
you mentioned you had the bootloop problem before, so you should be using odin 1.7 with 2.2 stock.
open odin
get phone into download mode with your nice jig
unplug jig and plug in computer
box in odin should turn yellow.
And make sure you have the correct drivers installed. CRUCIAL.

Yep, tried the Odin one click - caught in a boot loop with the AT&T Logo. I have yet to try the Heimdall one.
UPDATE
Tried Odin and Heimdall One-Clicks - unsuccessful. I'm think I will need the stock Eclair firmware file with Odin and the pit file.

You ever get this to work? - I'm in a similar situation. all flashes 'work' but get stuck at ATT on boot. Not sure Eclair is an option or not since mine is a refurbished phone that started on 2.2

If one-clicks aren't working, you might need to grab the full version of Heimdall or Odin and flash a full package. Some of the newer phone builds don't like one-clicks.

Well, I've bricked my three week old Verizon galaxy tab trying to flash the stock firmware back to the device to try and get the recent Verizon update working, which has been failing consistently. I've thoroughly read through every thread on the forum I could about the black screen of death, so I understand there's a good chance I'm pretty screwed here. I have a couple more questions on the subject, but I understand that I might not be able to get answers for them past the information that's already available.
I'll start by describing my setup and how the flashing process went wrong. I was using the stock Verizon ROM with Boushh's Voodoo Plus kernel v3, converted to ext4 of course. After the recent Verizon update failed to install on my Tab I followed through all the suggestions on the CDMA VZW Tab update thread, downloaded the update zip, put it on the sdcard, ran from rescue manager, unrooted, reflashed stock, wiped data and cache, re-ran from rescue manager at first boot... nothing worked. Things went really wrong when I tried flashing the entire ROTO backup of the Verizon stock ROM. I had the bright idea of setting up Heimdall to flash every file of the backup it had a slot for, including the pit file, zImage in kernel and recovery, factoryfs, param.lfs, cache.rfs, dbdata.rfs, modem.bin, boot.bin in primary bootloader slot and sbl.bin in secondary bootloader slot. When I pressed the start button it grayed out and nothing was happening. I waited a few minutes and finally turned the tab off. When I turned it back on again and tried to put it in download mode, the phone -x- computer logo showed up which freaked me out as I've never seen it before. Still, the computer did recognize the tab as composite USB device and so, unwittingly, I tried flashing with heimdall again. The flash went along perfectly well, but when it was finished both heimdall and the tab just hung there. I waited a few more minutes and turned off the tab again. After that it never turned on again. My questions, based on what I've read about the black screen of death so far are these:
* I've seen it suggested that the tab be left to drain for days or weeks, but not many reports that this worked out in the end. My battery was at about 45% percent when this whole thing went down. Should I even bother waiting? My only alternative at this point is to send the thing to Samsung for repairs which breaks my heart. Verizon won't replace it as I've had it for over two weeks.
* Could a homemade USB jig help me in this situation? I have some soldering experience but I heard that it won't help if the screen won't turn on. Ideally I'd buy it online, but I couldn't find one for the Galaxy Tab on ebay.
That's it I guess, but any information you can offer pertaining to this problem would be appreciated. Thanks!
to be honest, i do not know why people think they can brick the tab.......the only way is to throw it from a building.
Just go to overcome forum and follow this (i 'bricked' my tab a 1000 times):
IF your Tab does not boot after flashing the kernel and hangs at the Samsung Galaxy Tab screen, you must follow the following procedure
1.Get a stock rom package (any of Rotohammer's firmwares will work)
2.Get P1_add_hidden.zip attached to this post and extract the P1_add_hidden.pit file
3.Using Odin 1.7, put stock rom (Roto-JME-Full-v4.tar for example) in PDA slot.
4.Put P1_add_hidden.pit in Pit slot
5.Check repartition box
6.Put Tab in download mode by holding Volume Down and Power, connect to the computer, and press start.
7.After this, the Tab will reboot normally. Shut it down and return to download mode.
you also get the link for the p1 file you need.......easy
This sounds like very useful information, thank you. I'll definitely do this if I can get the Tab to respond to anything I do, which I can't so far. It won't turn on regardless of what volume button I press or not press. I'm pretty sure I had it connected to the PC while trying to put it in download mode just to see if it would be recognized as USB device despite the screen not turning on, but I'll try again to make sure when I get home.
Edit: Yeah, no luck. Not recognized as a USB device, which makes sense seeing as the screen doesn't even turn on.
I am having the same issue... My daughter put my computer to sleep while I was flashing back to stock using heimdall. Any luck getting your Tab to power on?

If your tab is showing any sign of life then you are not bricked and just need to keep at it until you find a solution. When you have exhausted all other resources you can send it off to get it fixed. I ended up bricking my tab when a flash was interrupted to the point that there was no sign of life at all. I found someone here who could fix it for $50 and had it back within the week working as it should. I highly recommend his service as a last resort.

Hello Guys,
I'm quite an intensive flasher and never had a problem ever, running lovely ICS at the moment and my phone is fine. But here's the problem, a friend of mine also has a SGS and hers suddenly got stuck in a bootloop today (she had stock on it, never did anything to it and had no flashing history or something). So I said, let me try to fix, I should be able to reflash the software and it should be working again. Sadly enough, it didn't go as I hoped.
I flashed JVU trough Odin with Pit file.
(Sadly enough I am not allowed to post pictures, goo.gl/28pPX < pic link)
And as you can see, No problems there. Everything went fine. So the phone boots, and then this happens:
goo.gl/D0vnU
This happens everytime, no matter what i try to flash. First time I have ever seen this and I just don't know what do with it..
When I try to reboot the phone it just starts bootlooping again. I'm clueless, so can anyone help me with this ?
Thanks in advance!

I would just flash the same jvu but with bootloaders

Try to flash this rom is one of the best Gingerbread roms, just follow all the instructions there.
good luck
You say : flashed jvu through odin...did you have 3 files(phone , modem ,cscand odin pit file) and have repartition checkbox ticked in odin?? and can you get phone into download mode???

You just have to find a small file called " dbdata.rfs " amd flash it through odin (in pda ) .
Or you can always download a full firmware which have four files .pit, csc, modem, code and flash them with odin and u will be good to go!
Sorry for the late reaction (and the bump of the thread).
I did flash trough odin, like 9001 times. Everytime I would just get into a bootloop, Stock or Custom Rom. I was able to get in CWM but that was just a mess. It had to do with a faulty SD-Card or something, its @ Samsung now. Anyways, thanks for the help everbody!
