Hello, I have decided to purchase a Nook Color this Christmas. I live in Romania and a friend from the States will be sending me one. I have a quick question, is there a way to buy subscriptions to magazines from B&N store from foreign countries? I understand that B&N sell only in the U.S. so I am intrested in somekind of a work-around. Hope anybody can help, thanks
Anyone can help?
I think only solution is to use VPNs which has US IPs. Try hotspot shield - it works great on PC (I haven't found android version yet). Or you can try tethering using PC and adhoc wifi.
Thx for the reply, but how about the credit card, won't B&N check it is from Europe?
I think not, I've got VISA USD card issued by polish bank, which is only for online payment and I don't have problems with buying online anywhere in the world (including barnes&nobles web store where i've bought my nook).
Buy the book using the proxy/vpn with a US IP. The download does not care which country you are in, just the initial purchase.
Thx for the help everyone, The nook will arrive in a few days, if there are no problems at the customs, and will test with the proxy/vpn.

I bought the nook also from B&N with a Romanian credit card, they don't care about the nook selling to Europe, problem is with books or magazine subscriptions, because they have to obey copyrights and can't sell them outside the U.S. This is what I read on the B&N forums, they also said they check credit cards when you purchase books but not for the nook. Thx for the help anyway, I will try with the proxy/vpn change, and maybe I am lucky

I live in Vancouver and intend to go to Bellingham tomorrow to buy Nook Color (since B&N does not ship to Canada). I've checked the threads about rooting this device, but still don't understand fully the process. I think I understand I need a B&N account for this. However, in order to create an account, I need a US billing address for my credit card, which is obviously a Canadian address. What are my options? Since there is Amazon, and Kobo in Canada, I am planning to install their respective readers and use these two sources instead of B&N. Is this realistic?
Any pointers much appreciated.
When I first set mine up, it let me skip past the credit card entry. It never insisted on a credit card until I went to actually order a book from B&N.
I rooted from Poland and B&N shop doesn't work here, I think you can register from anywhere, to buy anything you'd need US credit card/ address.

Fellow canuck. Ibentered my Canadian credit card and used a relatives address in USA. It worked so caN also make purchases from b&n store.
I got a friend of mine to buy my NC in Maui for me. I signed up for a B&N account and entered an address to a parcel service just across the border. I use this address for other stuff as well like my US Netflix (streaming only) account. Maybe check if there is aservice like that near you. As long as you don't get stuff shipped there, there shouldn't be a problem.
Sent from my NookColor!
Thanks very much to all who replied. Tomorrow night I hope to start rooting my new nook
Sitting in my office in Vancouver watching Sons of Anarchy on my rooted Nook right now. (Slow day ) I too just skipped the credit card part and everything went just fine.
The root is really, really easy. I was a bit intimidated too, but even before all the automation that's out now it was a cakewalk if you can read and follow directions.
Successfully rooted my Nook. At the moment listening to "Sultans of Swing" on youtube. I remembered my first Linux installation in April 1995 and the last line in the manual (the distro was "Mini Linux): Et in Arcadia ego.
Thanks to all who made it happen.

Cheers!
the other thread wasn't much use to me since it doesn't list any official channels (there really isn't any). I got myself one in february though. Ordered one from Amazon US, the UK one doesn't carry it.
there are a few resellers on amazon US, i tried one that shipped internationally but when time came to pay (with a British credit card), i faced the message due to licensing restrictions the product can't be shipped internationally.
for some reason, i decided to try my luck again with another reseller, Blueproton on amazon US. this time it worked. their dispatch was ultra quick, though fedex did screw up a bit. long story short, you can try to buy from blueproton on amazon US. Cost in total was about £232 if i remember right, including 25 for shipping (i used expedited though).
Hi all,
Has anybody successfully purchased book from B&N from outside of US? I do have access to a card with US billing address but my purchase still got canceled. I'd really want to buy some kids books. It's a nice feature of the nook color stock firmware.
Any input appreciated.
Am sure there are many happy Nook Colour owners who live north of the 49th Parallel. I am about to have my cousin (who lives in the States) order a refurb Nook Colour, have it shipped to a Receiving centre in Lewiston (NY), and my brother will pick it up. Sounds like a lot of work, but yes, that is what I have to resort to since Buy.com wouldn't take my Canadian registered PayPal account, and Cdn Credit card.
My questions are:
- Would I be able able to register my Nook with B&N when I first started it up ?
- What do you do if you want to register at B&N website (to purchase books) w/o a US Credit card ?
Can fellow Canucks share their ownership experiences ?
Thanks, eh!
I'm canadian but initially installed honeycomb and now cm7 n150 firmware - never even booted into stock...
bought mine on ebay 200 sale and think its my best purchase of the year...

@vn33,
I've been able to register an account and purchase an ebook from B&N.
It appeared in my nook color once I registered it to my account.
I registered first through B&N.
I used a real e-mail address and my credit card number (visa).
For primary shipping address, I used the address of the closest B&N store to me.
I selected the closest US city (Niagara Falls) and plugged that into the B&N store locator.
Even though the address didn't match my Visa I was able to purchase an ebook and the charge appeared on my statement so I don't believe they check.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info above, nolook & bmss ...
Are you running stock or CM7 ?
If you do run CM7, did are you running the Nook App from Market ?
Did you managed to purchase magazine ?
Thanks again !
@vn33,
I'm running stock off internal memory.
I haven't bought any magazines.
I've tried the dual boot phiremod/honeycomb rom off of microsd but getting a lot of force closes with all my existing cards. I really like phiremod 6.3 though.
I'm still having trouble finding a good microsd with random 4k write speeds.
The nook app can't be found in my version of the market. I think it has to do with a Canadian IP address. This hasn't prevented me from downloading books with the stock rom. I haven't tried any tweaks to install the .apk that I found on the web or tried unlocking the market yet. Not until I have a microsd that can run phiremod with stability.
I think BN wouldn't sell the hardware in Canada, but if you get your hand on one, then once registered the device with a google a/c (you could put in the credit # during the device registration, or after you registered, then use a regular PC browser to add the # online), and you are good to go. After all, BN cares only your credit card, not where are you from. There could be some copyright issue for them, but I am sure they just close their eyes.
As other posters mentioned, the NC is a very good device, I also bought from refurbished on ebay for $250 (shipping inclusive) and you don't pay the GST and PST.

I would not buy the HP (even if it is only $99) unless there are mod that could convert it into an Android. Since HP is going to abandone it, there will be no support or anyone writing app for it (it is based on an obscure WebOS), so the only use you have is web browsing.

Went down to Virginia in July and our first stop was the first B&N along our route near Erie, PA. I bought it from the store and rooted it that evening at the hotel. (Already had everything ready to go). I noticed a dead pixel in the middle of the screen and had to unroot it and brought it to the next B&N store along our route and exchanged it for one that was perfect.
I ended up getting the Nook app on my Nook (ironic) and set it up using a gmail account and everything was good.
Mine has worked perfectly since I got it last december. Living in Vancouver, Canada. Never used the B&N service though, so not sure how that works.
Registration and everything for the first time setup was a breeze though.
I am interested in the new Nook Tablet, but I believe it won't ship to Canada either. How did you guys buy your Nook (apart from going to the US?). Have you ever tried a service like MYUS? How can I get a Nook Tablet for relatively the same price as it is sold in the US?
Unless you're willing to cross the border and pick it up or have an Amerifriend willing to ship it to you, you will have to pay a premium to get it in Canada.
shopereaders dot com is one option although I have never used their services. myus dot com is another option.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with it if you have to pay a premium. I like my Nook Color but not enough to pay the "Canada surcharge". There are other options available in Canada like the Kobo Vox, which has almost identical specs but is affordable and available locally. That's an important consideration in case you have to return it or get warranty service.
Do you know a way to shop in the B&N store for books if I'm outside the US?
I would love to shop some books from the store and support B&N instead of using Amazon and then converting the books to epub...
Thanks!
Can't say I've found a solution to be honest. Have been living overseas for 2 years for work and I gave up buying through B&N. The only way I can think of is if you have a VPN and your nook is tunneling through that to appear as if it's in the US. Where I live, that would be A) slow and B) annoying.
I wish B&N would just allow US customers with US credit cards to purchase whatever they want wherever they are, like Amazon does...
Actually, the problem is I don't have a US credit card and I'm not a US customer. But I would also like to shop in B&N instead of just amazon.

It won't happen then. Unless Barnes and Noble gets the right paper work from the publishers and your country they don't have the rights to sell anything out of the states. So either get a US credit card and address and a vnc or your out of luck

Hi!
I ordered a NC from Barner&Noble site some months ago. I live in Greece and I used a credit card from Greece but the shipping address was in USA. I had to call B&N so they can send shipping. But you must have an address in USA.
a couple of months ago i could get books from B&N using a free VPN service called Hotspot Shield, buying them on the PC and downloading them in the nook
in amazon it didnt work, but i could buy some books in B&N
