[Q] [PLEASE HELP] Custom text ringtones??? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out how to use my music as a custom ringtone for my text notifications on my Samsung Galaxy S I9000.....
Can someone please help me?

Well you could use this app http://www.appbrain.com/app/ringdroid/com.ringdroid
OR the way I do it is just put files directly into the directory using root explorer *must be rooted* The path is system/media/audio/notifications

Text as SMS? Open text messages app and press menu, then select settings and scroll to ringtone.
You need musics in those directories as explained above.

you have to create a folder on yout SD card like this:
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
just move yout tones or mp3 to this folders, I've create this folders using ES File Explorer and i don't have any problems

Custom Ringtones for Contacts

Am I missing something? Can I not add a custom right tone to a contact? I just switched over from my Droid X today and I came across this issue.

I believe the way to do it is if you open the Contacts app then click on the contact and when it shows their info, hit the menu key then select options and it should then give you the option to set a custom ringtone for that contact.
I've tried that but the only choices that are available are the stock ringtones that came with the phone I'd like to use an actual song from my music library as that contacts ringtone.

I noticed the same thing! I like to have different songs for different people, i don't want to be limited to the lame generic ringtones, i want Beck and Death Weather and QoTSA!
I just upgraded from a Droid X today and I able able to add custom ringtones to contacts then now on DB it doesn't seem to give you an option to do that I'm surprised

Might try adding the music files to a folder named "Ringtones" on the sd card. It worked for my portal 2 ringtones.

Files placed into: /Internal phone storage/media/audio/ringtones are usable as ringtones. If the folders already exist, just move your files there. If the folders aren't already there, you can use the pre-installed Files application to create them. From with the app, click Menu then New Folder.
Then do this keeping in mind that it needs to be done from the View Contact screen, not the Edit Contact screen:

I figured it out: I opened the music app then long pressed the song I wanted as a ring tone. The go to the contact select options and when the list of ring tones opens looks for the song title and hi-light the song done. Thanks to all of you for helping!!!!

I had some songs and alert tones that I put on the external SD card, and the system found them and added them to my list of available ring tones without me having to do anything.
have had no issues with custom ring tones and alerts.
Thanks. That also worked for the notification ringtone.

Check out "Rings Extended" in the app market. Once installed it operates in the background. Assign a ringtone as normal, but when you do you get the option to use Rings Extended. It will let you choose any music on your phone.

[Q] how to set the ringtone on cm9 rom?

I have just flashed a cm9 rom last night
thanks somone help me to deal with the problem with external sd card
I have a second problem
that is
how to set the ringtone, there is no option or menu bar for me to set the ringtone except the default songs ...
when I start the song, I cannot find any opinion to set the ringtone
can anyone help ?
search the melody that u want than long press on it...it will appear a menu and select set as ringtone
Search it with what? A file explorer? I use Root Explorer and it doesn't have that ability, at least I haven't found it. I also need to set a custom notification as well.
Save SD.kartu MP3 ringtones folder, then choose MP3 as the default. Other applications from Google also play, Zedge,, there you have it and get on the phone directly to the menu nastavení.Stačí sounds, ringtones and set up.
sry my bad english.
Similar problem

A problem I've run into with both cm9 and cm10 is that it ignores my choice of ring tone. I can select them, but almost randomly it will just ignore the fact I've chosen it. Nor will it default back to cyan tone but this obscure quiet beep. Which is a bit annoying as it is almost as if my phone turned on silent.
Had to avoid almost all CM based roms. Hope there is a solution, Cyangenmod has come along beautifully.

How did you set ringtone? Through system menu? Maybe use your media player to set it and try if problem still exists.

I have a different problem. I set ringtone, it prompt me "Andriod System or ES Explorer". I pick ES Explorer as default to select the ringtone in one of the folder. Now every time I want to change a ringtone or notification it goes to ES Explorer. How to go revert to stock?
Go to your stock music player.
Long press and select the song.
A menu appears and select it as your ringtone.

[Q] Milestone (CM9.1.0d) can't play any ringtone of notification sound

Dear Milestone users,
Can't remember when it started, but my Stone doesn't make any sound when it receives a call or a text although:
Silent mode is Off
Volume for Ringtones & notifications is max
Alarm does work
I can play music on the speaker with Apollo, including the .ogg files in /system/media/audio/ringtones
In the Sounds settings, I can see the list of available ringtones, but tapping on any of them (stock or custom) does not preview it.
The permission for .ogg files in /system/media/audio/ringtones are set to rw-r--r-- and their group and owner are both 0: root according to "root browser" app.
Oh, and I reflashed the ROM, without effect unfortunately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
And when set to vibrate, it doesn't even vibrate on incoming call. But the incoming call screen does show up and I can answer.

I don't know what it is.Maybe is from the ROM.Try to put another ROM.
Or download a app call, call answer, etc, from Play Store.Maybe this will help you.
Okay, I've wiped everything and reflashed the same ROM. Works now. Thanks dragosneagu95!

Marshmallow Root?

Hi all, I updated my phone with the 6.0.1 OTA the other day and it ended up bricking my phone and I had to factory reset and lost root access. Is there a working root method for marshmallow? I haven't been keeping up since I originally rooted the phone last year. Sadly, all I want to do is to be able to copy a new ringtone to the notifications folder, but I need root access for that.
Hi there. You don't need root for custom ringtones. Put your sounds under the folder "Ringtones" and they will populate on their own under notifications.
As for root possibilities, it's very unlikely for our verizon flavored s6. I've been monitoring this forum for a while and I love our little community but I don't see active developers...

Thanks, I added the mp3 to the ringtones folder and I see it under the ringtones settings, but I want to use the sound for notifications, hangouts, groupme, whatsapp etc... I think I either need to place the file in the notifications folder, or I need the .ogg file instead of .mp3
Ahh, found a solution. Downloaded a ringtone app (zedge) which luckily had the sound I wanted and was able to install it.
Nice! Alternatively, you can create a folder called "Notifications" and put your files in there. It might already exist.
