I recently updated to the latest Sprint release in order to get the new radio and PRL. I re-rooted using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296&highlight=root . Ever since then, I been unable to wipe cache and dalvik in the recovery menu. It says it's done wiping, but nothing happens. I also been having trouble restoring nandroids, it would be stuck at the white HTC screen and I have to pull the battery and try again.
Anyone having this problem?
Try reflashing your recovery and are you using Firerats mod by chance????

I've tried re-flashing with no change, and yes I'm using Firerats.
I think I'm having this problem as well... maybe. When I try to nandroid restore, I have to go through the Google account setup and when I skip it my launcher crashes...
I've had 1.7 for a long time, and I don't think I have any problems with it.... Oddly though, you say the recovery "says it's done wiping" and nothing happens, what the heck is supposed to happen? and what specifically makes you think it is not wiping? I now am curious if I have the same issue. My nandroids do seem to always work, whether creating one or restoring one...
When wiping cache, it will free up some internal memory. When wiping dalvik, it will take longer to boot, around 10 minutes. This no longer happens.

For the Dalvik, you can be absolutely sure by wiping Dalvik, connecting phone to usb, and in command prompt type
adb logcat
If you see a lot of lines saying DexOpt then that means Dalvik was indeed wiped.

is is then safe to assume if I logcat using the catlog app I have after a dalvik wipe it would show the same output? I can't connect to a comp at work

Sorry, I should have been more thorough. You should see a lot of DexOpt lines during the subsequent boot process, not during the actual Dalvik wipe in recovery. Just to be sure, is that what you meant?

I ran adb logcat after the phone booted. Anyway, I just switched back to Clockwork recovery which wipes properly, RA 1.62 also wipes properly. I don't know why 1.7 stopped working for me.

Well, 1.7 doesn't wipe properly for me either anymore.... weird - I wonder what broke it, because it seems it is not an isolated occurance... I dislike clockwork so I will try out 1.6.2. I wonder if this is why people in the GB thread who use 1.7 have been having issues getting the rom to work/bootloops... I bet it is. I will test 1.6.2 and see if I can flash GB without loops and post over there. And to pmgrands, yes there is that app which I've had for a while and it's nice when you don't want to go into recovery. BTW you can also wipe the dalvik cache using titanium backup, and you can wipe data/factory reset using the system settings menu, but it's way easier to do it all in one place(recovery), especially when you are about to flash something, but thanks for heads up for those who didn't already know about it.

Is anyone else having with this file? I have been trying to update my Nightly build of CM7 heroc #12 to 13. I do the wipe and all that and the install is successful but when the phone loads it says com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please restart. I click ok and it does it again over and over again and its pops up right away after i click ok. any suggestions??
You might have a bad download. Redownload and see if that works. Also are you using firerats mod??? If not then try a full wipe as in data,cache,dev-cache and sd-ext.
Yea its me again with the

No I am using Nandroid. and I did that. um I will try the redownload and see if that works thanks for the advice. whats Firerats?? Is that better?

Your recovery image may be outdated, update your recovery image and then do a wipe on data, cache, and dev-cache and then reboot.

Oh ok and I am using the stock recovery. I tried amon_Ra and clockworkMod but hey both do something wrong cause everytime I do a backup something on my phone doesnt work afterwards or the recovery doesnt work and the Stock one is working perfectly fine.
You're welcome!
For good measures, you should wipe everything and then flash your recovery TWICE, and then reboot into recovery mode -- flashing it twice usually ensures a healthy installation without problems.
no ext, no MTD, have tried recovery v2.0.0.5 / v3 / v4
Used to flash often without a problem, until some day all roms suddenly fail.
to make sure all data/cache are cleared, all wipe (4 totally) and all format (but sdcard/ext) are done. still i wouldn't work. only asop v0.9.9.2 will do.
could anyone tell me why?

At least the only rom you can flash is arguably the best ROM over made for the heroc. Could be worse.

it just stopped at the white screen with HTC logo
i believe i've waited long enough to make sure it's not working.
and there wasn't any error reported while flashing.
Could it be SDcard problem?
I think you're not wiping good enough. Flash caulkins format all then wipe EVERYTHING manually except SD card but NOT excluding sd-ext. Then go to advanced (assuming you're on cw) and wipe dalvik. Then flash caulkins format all one more time. Flash the rom and report back. I'm sure it will work

don't know what your "caulkins" means.
i use cw recovery
4wipe(data/cache/dalvik/battery) + 4format(boot/cache/data/system)
I don't perceive any other wipe/system options.

Caulkins is a zip that formats the boot, data, system, and cache in one step. It can be.found in the first post of the wildheroc Rom thread.
But your doing what it does already, it just makes it faster really. Still worth a try tho
Also, I remember when people used to have problems flashing stuff, a wipe of the SD card helped. Just back everything up on your computer the wipe it with everything else.
I don't know if they ever figured out why it worked, just that sometimes a bad file get on the card and wont let it boot. Just another suggestion to try.

Hi guys,
Need your assistance in this. I downloaded the 4.4.2, the Gapps (stock version), and the CWM Touch 6044. Flashed successfully the 6044. Rebooted, and flashed omni 442 and then the gapps. Did a wipe data/factory reset. Then pressed reboot device. The phone will restart and stay stuck at the Omni Logo. No progress from there at all. Did a few other reboots and different combinations to the above but to no result. Stuck there. Finally, did a restore from my backup just to have a phone again..Any idea what I did wrong from the start?
How long did you wait at the first bootup? It took quite long for me, so I'd suggest waiting up to 20 minutes before turning off the phone. Try flashing with the most lightweight Gapps package, that's what everyone seems to be using. You could also try wiping cache and dalvik cache.

Well, did the Dalvik cache but later on, when I was experimenting. I had waited at least 16/18 minutes till my patience ran out...
Decided to have one more go right now. 1. Did a wipe data / factory reset. 2. After that, wiped Dalvik cache. 3. Presently installing Omni and then will install gapps. 4. Will reboot and leave it to boot until I leave work. (couple of hours from now). And will see what happens.
- Forgot to add thaty in all instances, I selected YES in the "root" question in the end. -
Thanks for replying!
---Update
Nothing changed. Stuck at the Omni logo for about 50 minutes..

So don't flash gapps and ROM back to back. Flash ROM then reboot and after waiting 5 mins reboot and flash gapps again.

Maybe format /system in addition to the factory reset (it's under mounts and storage). So you get a completely clean install

Thanks for your advice guys - Unfortunately I don't see any results
I booted in recovery and in this order: Wiped data / did factory reset - then wiped Dalvik - then did format /system - then flashed successfully Omnirom and at the end select YES in the "root" question. Did not touch the Gapps.
Same result - has been in the Omni Logo for more than half an hour.
Can someone tell me the absolute prerequisites needed to install and boot normally? Apart from CWM Touch 6.0.4.4 that is?
Thanks in advance
I really don't see any more required steps to install OmniRom. Did you try another downloaded OmniRom? Maybe something is wrong with your used version.

all I did under mount & storage is the "format /system". Did not mount anything any other time. Is this part of the procedure too or are we shooting blind here? - Cause directions in the post say flash rom, flash apps, wipe data & reboot, let alone the 15 other combos I've done.
Haven't tried anything yet cause I need to re-download the ROM and presently I can't get any of my 3 PCs "see" the LG's contents like a flash drive. Can only do it in my work's laptop. Beats me why..
If you don't have important data, format internal storage too. No idea for 4.4, but if you flash kdz, this is a must.

It is important to mount everything as far as I know. In my old device's forum it always a step that is specified, I never see it in these forums though.
Try it, you don't loose anything.

Apart from what I have said I have the done, the only other thing is to try and re-flash the pre-rooted rom, other that as far as I know is starting from scratch, but I follow a simple procedure when flashing mine.
Stick Firmware 108 on >> Download SuperSu and Root Checker >> Use EasyRoot to root phone >> Use Recovery Tool >> In Recovery put lollipop on >> Wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache >> Install Pre- Root Lollipop >> Wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache >> Format >> Reboot >> Do Backup. Then setup your phone and it should have worked, but you might have to reinstall recovery.
Ok so I have had to re-root my phone after doing something stupid, and kept getting this error no matter what I did this time. I did a quick search and found that apparently it is harmless, I have left it and went on to setup the phone.

Yep me too. All better now.
Ok so I have found a small way around this, but it is a pain. When I get this error, I have already flashed the lollipop rom and am trying to format before restarting so I have a clear canvas to work with, but it won't let me, so what I have to do is go to wipe and then advanced wipe as I know format data gives me a error. Select Dalvik, System, Cache, Data, Internal Storage and wipe them, you may have to do data and internal storage a few times to get it right as it sometimes gives me a error still. After that you will need to re-flash lollipop as you will have no OS on there and if you restart or shutdown you will not be able to boot your phone.
I take no responsibility if anything should happen trying this.

Rebooting recovery resolved the issue for me
Update Recovery twrp or lineage Img.
flash an updated recovery and then clean wipe and install new rom. Thats how i took care of my 255 error.
Hello everyone.
Lately I had this frustrating problem with formatting the cache through any recovery I ever had. ALWAYS!
How flashing a ROM goes:
- I'm powering off the phone and enter in recovery.
- I select Wipe Data/Cache (Or Wipe for a new ROM option in CWM)
- It starts by formatting data and next is cache, where I get stuck.
I don't have many options. I can either pull out the battery or wait a while. Oh, no worries, after 5 minutes of "formatting cache" it reboots, with the current ROM messed, obviously.
It's annoying because no one seems to have this problem and it happens every single time when I wipe.
Hope there is someone who will bother helping me out with this.
P.S. - I'm no expert, more like a noob, so don't ask me too-technical questions.
Thankiees!
