Button Savior works great on g-tab - G Tablet Themes and Apps

I agree with the guy who said with this you don't need the soft buttons on the top. Especially convenient when you are holding the g-tab in portrait mode.

Nice find! So far so good. hopefully it work everywhere I go, I've see a few places where I lose the top bar and cen't get to the soft buttons OR it seems that the back button isn't working all the time in the ROMS. Hopefully this keeps up properly.
THANKS!

Yup, posted this on Christmas day as a [SOLUTION] I did!

def going to try this out since there doesnt seem to be a back light on the buttons on the gtab unless im missing a setting somewhere.

Soooo glad i found this app. Makes life so much easier.

Great app for cyanogen 7. I don't miss the status buttons at all and am no longer thinking about the backlight hardware mod.

Button Savior

Anyone using Button Savior? I love it but it doesn't seem to survive a reboot. In fact, sometimes, it seems to die even without a reboot. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to ensure that it's always running?
Sent from my XDA app on my Nook Color
I started using it today and have rebooted several times. Seems to actually work, whereas SoftKey didn't work as reliably for me.
I installed it via the Market. At some point, not right away, it asked for su. After that it has worked fine.

I'm another happy user of button savior. I use it on on my rooted HD2 and love it.
An update just came out for button savior, but I have never had problems with it. I do have to restart it once in awhile after a boot, but not every time. Not much to complain about because I love that some smart person actually came out with it!
I've been using it for several days and have rebooted many times. Installed via Market. So far so good.
I love button savior. I occasionally miss the button to pull up the menu because its so small but it has survived a few reboots.
I see the little button on my screen on the right but it does nothing, I cannot activate it, I have gone into the settings and I can move it from left to right but that's it, Help please

Are you sure your finger is touching it? I have trouble getting the nook to register my taps on the edges of the screen. Once you tap the icon a group of icons appear like home and back. Try reinstalling if you continue to have problems.

[Q] How to take care of power button?

Hi guys! I am buying a Nexus One. I just read about the power button problem. I wanted to know if there is any way that I could take care of my power button so that it does not break. I also wanted to know if there was a possible way of remapping the power button, for example the power button dies out on me, I could use the Volume up button to power on my device (cold boot).
Well that depends if you're running stock ROM or rooting and installing a custom ROM. I'm gonna assume you're gonna root and say to get a ROM with trackball root. This way you can unlock with the trackball and save your power button. You can also get a one of many apps that lets you lock the phone from a homescreen widget.
If you're not planning on rooting you could install GoLocker which would let you unlock with the volume rocker. Think the locking widgets should still work too.
Hope that helps.
I read somewhere that pressing the power button from the side closest to the headphone jack would also prevent damage to it. Is this true? I haven't really gotten my N1 yet so it's kind of hard to visualize how the power button works on it.
Yeah like addam360 stated, I use CM7 ROM with trackball unlock/trackball wake.
Barely use my power button. There's also app like Quickboot which let me reboot or reboot to recovery without having to use the button.
CM7 ROM also have an option to shut down via widget.
As for which side to push I really couldn't tell you.

I've had my N1 for over a year with no power button issues - Check out my signature; I did a huge long post explaining my reasoning.

So that's where I got the info of pressing closest to the audio jack. Thanks very much for the info. So what if I were to place a thin piece of paper between the trace and the plastic power button head so that it does not press down on the trace? Do you think this will help preserve the trace?
I have had my nexus one for a year and 8 months, I haven't payed attention to where I click the button and its still working properly.

Mine failed around that time. Luckily still under warranty so HTC fixed it. (Audio jack went at same time and fixed also)

If anything, that would probably push the trace down more every time you pressed the power button. If you really want to try a fix, see about grinding down the part of the power button above the trace - that way you won't accidentally press it on the wrong side.
I'm using an EVO 3d so I don't have insight for the N1 but I do know moving parts break. It's one reason I think slideout keyboards are retarded. But most aosp roms allow trackball wake. Me personally I think my volume down is going out. Scrolling in recovery to my download folder is like 16 presses lol. Lucky for me I can get a new back cover and be back to new.

Hard Buttons Cause Crazy Short

Does anyone else have this issue?
I dug up my old G1 to do a little testing, and it boots fine into good old CM5. Problem is, the hard buttons, keyboard included, when pressed, cause the backlighting on all the buttons to flicker. Every button except for End (Power) locks the phone.
What would be the first step toward fixing this, and is it even repairable?
So far, I have added Button Savior as a workaround, but I would really like to fix the short, if that's what it is, so that I can flash a new ROM.
Any ideas? Do I need to disassemble the casing? Everything works in recovery- still buggy, but workable. In Android the buttons are not even usable.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
I think its the hardware, but try to flash this.
If the buttons doesnt work after all and you still wish to reanimate your G1, lock out for a square part or even better a used one,
to replace the button fields.

[Q] power button sticking

My power button has started sticking anyone else notticed the same. I think I have fixed my problem by sucking on the button (i know thats weird but it worked ) has this happed to anyone else?
This is the first post of its kind. A video would have been nice to show this.
Contact the place you bought it from and you'll get a exchange if it continues to be a problem
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Mine has also but not all the time just a here and there thing. I push it in and it doesn't even feel like the button is being pushed anymore unlike the volume ones which are great.
Its not a problem anymore after sucking on the button it doesnt do it anymore
Thanks for this post
I was having the same issue and found this thread. I thought it was weird, but I just took the phone to the head and sucked on the power button. Problem solved!
This post is so funny i had to comment.
Lol what's funny is, I had this problem.. I laughed at this thread and gave it a shot anyways and sucked like a.... I don't know insert joke here and it worked..

Try sucking on it anyways. If nothing else, your phone will appreciate the attention.
Thank you so so much
I had the same issue with my power button and it actually disappeared sucking it. I'm an astonished.
I've tried sucking on the button with no success. Even feels like its getting worse . works turning off, but turning on seems to not want to work .
i have this problem too, my volume keys are sticky,
how we can fix this problem
omfg it worked hahaha this is the weirdest thing ever...thank you
Confirmed that it worked.
Holy crap. I can also confirm it worked.
This post is so funny i had to comment.
Might have to try this line of reasoning with the girlfriend
I swear to go I sucked it for less than a second but then laughed thinking what am I doing, but then it worked!! That's crazy lol! I came back to post this and so all those success stories haha crazy

Just suck on the volume buttons.
My power button started to get stuck in (like crazy, phone would reboot continuously), sacked on it and boom, good as new.
Really impressed with how trying to get alcohol inside the button (to clear any dust or whatever) and pressing hard on the button didn't do anything... But sucking on it worked. Lol.

thanks mate but i changed my nexus 6 to another one

2 things I really miss from the kitkat days......

I miss the embedded recorder and screenshot!
Does anyone have any ideas? I did find an app on GP for recording (prefer embedded) but have not had any luck with finding a screenshot that actually works...
tis,
gbh
Screenshot is suppose to be power button + volume down. Works for me.

Caused by datamining. The dev's at Google know about the use of features. The majority seems not to use this.
Same with a dark theme. It is easy to embed. But it's not in Android.
We are probably a minority.
@Getabiggerhammer:
Screenshot: Power + Volume Down
Screen Record: Power + Volume Up
@NLBeev: They're still present. The devs at Google simply can't code their way out of wet paper bags.
Thanks everyone,
Yes I tried the volume down+power and the volume down+ home neither seem to work though. If I knew how to root my old plum phablet it had an extra button added to take snaps that worked flawlessly on 4.2. I was hoping someone might know of code floating around somewhere or an app, but then that might not help me anyway since there must be some other issue going on if you all can get it to work and I cant.

You just have to press the two buttons at exactly the same time, and keep them pressed for around half a second. It won't work if you happen to press either button a little bit before the other.
