[MOD] Uncapped Data Mod for CyanogenMod 6.1.0 Stable - Droid Incredible Android Development

Hey all,
Here is the Data Service Governer Killer mod that the forums have been buzzing about for CM6.1.0 stable release. Credit goes to BThomas22x from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10100043&postcount=1 All I did was package it up nicely for CM 6 users. Make sure you do a backup first and then flash the attached file from recovery just like you would a ROM.
Less than Scientific Data Speed Comparison (Speedtest.net app):
Before: 829kbps/479kbps || 891kbps/607kbps || 1019kbps/554kbps
After: 1691kbps/650kbps || 1239kbps/575kbps || 1148kbps/688kbps
If it matters to anyone, I'm running the 7.28 radio.
Edit: If you're cutting edge and need a services.jar that will work with CM nightly #184, scroll down to invisiblek's post.

Just a warning.. I'm running #184 nightly and this caused a bootloop for me.. not too sure why.
I'm sure there's just some differences in the services.jar from 6.1 stable to the nightlies.
:/
If no one beats me to it.. I'll make one after some mahjong

So this link will work with the nightlies? (for example I'm running #177, and the 6.1 themes work with it)

Before:
600 down
950 up
After:
900 down
975 up

I do appreciate it, I've noticed my speeds dropping since i busted through 7gigs last month... Too bad we have to have a work-around

No, afaik it will ONLY work with 184. I'd be elated to be proven wrong though nandroid 1st!

Please port it to D1

so all i need to do is replace my current service.jar with the modded one, right?

Holy cow am I impressed. I was beyond skeptical at first becuase I thought 3G was 3G and the speed just depended on signal. I guess this is not the case!!!! Incredible (sorry pun) improvements after flashing this> I ran eight speedtest.net tests using the app, four before flash and four after flash and the results are:
Before flash:
873 down /// 1025 up
666 down /// 962 up
783 down /// 1029 up
1266 down /// 931 up
don't know why up speeds were faster than down on some, can someone tell me why that is?
After flash:
2031 down /// 934 up
2220 down /// 856 up
1904 down /// 897 up
2201 down /// 938 up
Thank you sooooo much best mod ever

Thanks been waiting for someone to make this CM!

For those of you seeing the speed bumps once applying this, were you all over 5Gigs? If I average around 3 Gigs a month, chances are I'm not throttled and probably won't see any speed charges, right?

I'm not, I just wanted to flash it on anyways lol.

Does this modification cause FCs in Mobile networks settings, or was that just a Sense issue? If it does cause FCs, shouldn't we edit the throttle files to remove the actual throttling code, instead of deleting the files themselves?
Side note: This is probably a great way to get Verizon to crack down on rooting...
Edit: Is this the source for these files in CM? If so, it looks easy enough to neuter it to not actually throttle.

Well... S-OFF and rooting didn't really have consequences for Verizon's infrastructure until now. If we're able to overload their towers because the tower can't ask phones to slow down, Verizon is definitely going to take notice. And be pissed. And they'll have a good reason.
I wonder how hard it would be to determine if a phone is ignoring the throttle request.

I'm only .4Gb so i will speedtest before and after.

This hack is one of the best mods I have applied to my phone in a long time! I haven't been excited about something related to software for Android since Donut was released!

will some pretty please (imagine begging) port this to the d1? this is has to be the greatest thing since the creation of bread.

Scoot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RLS3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) [07/08/11]

Scoot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RLS3
This is a build I have compiled from the official CyanogenMod source files and adapted for Kaiser/Vogue. Feel free to give it a go at your own risk!
Well, it still isn't quite as snappy as Froyo and the camera still doesn't work properly but it's probably about as fast as Gingerbread will get on our devices. I'm bound to have messed a few things up but i'll continue to work on it when I get time
All the usual things are working as far as i know, GPS works fine for me but the camera is as always not fully functional.
All of this is thanks to the guys working on the CyanogenMod roms and of course, none of this would work without all the hard work on the kernel so big thanks to dzo, vilord, l1q1d etc...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RLS 1:
Initial Release
Includes most of the Google Apps including Maps, Gmail etc..
Latest Market is included
RLS2:
Built from the latest 7.0.2 source
Optimised EGL for our devices
Updated Market
LDPI and PNG optimisations to save space & increase speed
ADW Launcher updated
Loads of tweaks and status bar changes
Updated RIL lib
Loads of fixes and optimisations
**I recommend leaving the phone for 5 minutes after installing to sort itself out and cache apps etc...**
RLS3:
I can't really be bothered to list all of the changes, there are quite a few but I just compile the thing, the changes are in the CyanogenMod repository. I have included the updated RIL and all of the Google Apps are up to date. The camera is still ****e but that's a driver issue. This release hasn't been heavily tested as I don't use my Kaiser as a main phone anymore So i'm sure you will find issues in which case we can sort them out as and when. Enjoy!

Vogue Updates
Wow, thanks for all your hard work scooter. Will try right now and see how it runs.
Edit:
Vogues users have to install the SD Fix from you other thread for the SD card to work correctly.

just to be clear, is this gingerbread? im just amazed at how awesome the vogue still is. i have an evo these days with cm7 but i use to have this phone. i wish i never lost it cause it would be cool to fool around with.
out of curiosity what kind of linpack scores do you get? what can you guys overclock up to?

It is Gingerbread indeed
I can usually overclock up to 520mhz before it starts crashing and randomly shutting down.
Though on a kaiser someone says he has gotten 576 mhz.
On a over clocked build we can get approximately 2.1 mflops.

oo, is it relatively snappy? when i lost my vogue, the android development was in its baby stages so i never really got around to putting it on my device. i put it on my brothers and he loved having it. i would assume it runs froyo and gingerbread even better than it did donut. It seams like googles goal up to this point wast to streamline the os to make it quicker all around.
anyway, its hard to imagine 2 mflops when my evo is doing 36 non overclocked. im sure my phone isnt actually 18x faster than your in real use though.
yeah! I waiting for the first build to hit the shelves here. Will try soon, maybe this weekend.

well not in real world use. easily in raw computing power though. I used donut on my brothers vogue for a little bit and it was definitely faster than winmo.
Of course
Anything would be better than WinMo 6.1
CM 6.1 is insanely fast compared to donut when I tried them out
nice build!
enabling wifi crashes the device (polaris 100) /:
EDIT: After applying update it works!
By things like these is that I loved my HTC Vogue, hurts I had to sell it to complete the money and buy another device that placed in my signature is much more complete that our Vogue in hardware but even so the Vogue deal a place in my heart

What do I do with the vogue SD fix? I tried to search for it, but came up short.
Is the Vogue SD Fix specific to CM or is it for 0.32 kernels?
I thought that Scoots builds would only work with .32 kernels, and that .32 kernels didn't have USB mount for SD. Is the SD Fix fixing something else? I would really like USB mounting (with Win XP). I copy a lot of files over to my Vogue from an XP machine, but would like to use this build, but haven't moved over because I'm on .25 kernel.
Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend using this with the .25 kernel, it's too old. The Vogue SD Fix allows the SD card to mount and enables apps to SD for Vogue. It's because the Kaiser and Vogue differ in this area. As always with the .32 kernel, i have not had success mounting in windows from the phone, linux is fine though.
wow ginger on the vogue. now that's amazing. htc should make another version of this phone but with android on it.

Horrible All Around Performance

I have an HTC Hero (Sprint) and everything about it is horrible. The internet speed, the responsiveness and just general usage. I used to use this Hero as my phone and it is now my sisters phone and I am trying to make it better for her.
Can anybody help me out with a few things....
1.) What is your radio version?
2.) What ROM / Kernel combo are you using?
3.) What OC speeds are you using (if any)
4.) UV?
------
Any other tips to improving performance on this phone?
The internet speed is absolutely horrible even in areas where I have full bars. I've tried multiple radios and I am having no luck.

1. the .29 radio, updating the PRL might help also (search the forum for how to please)
Network speeds could be slow due to your area also. One way I've found that works is applying the 3G tweaks by zeppelinrox. It's part of his V6 Supercharger Script thread. Again search the forums but I'll tell you it's located in Android Hacking and General.
2. Our Zero Hero Sense 3.5 ROM, We include the latest kernel. Only problem we have is Bluetooth. We also have DX 2.3.7 and DX 2.3.4 ROMS available.
3. Every Hero runs OC speeds differently due to the Hero being made with some different hardware. Mine can top at 768 and be stable. Others can't.
4. UV I assume you mean undervolt. Which cannot be done on the Hero. Sorry.
Also to add on to Matt. The safest OC speed that is universal is 691. I have a rare one that goes up to around 876 or so.

In the Phones defense it's quite old. The fact that there are still people who are perfectly contempt with the Phone in this day and age just shows how amazing it is. I also just got this phone myself as a hand-me down. Now that I've started using a smartphone there is no going back.
The first thing I can say is that it is a given to root and flash this phone. I've tried many different roms. Pretty much all of the ones in the XDA-Development forums and the only one that really stuck to me like glue is DX OS. It runs smoother then any other rom I flashed.
1) 2.24.02.10.29
2) DX OS 2.3.4 / 2.6.35.14-TeamHeroC
3) 768 mhz (It seems to be stable for me)
4) No idea what UV is refering to but dastin seemed to have answered that.
Hey someone does use DX thank you
Of course someone would use it. Its a great OS. I would be posting in the development forums but I need 10+ posts. So I'm stuck in the General and Q + A forums until then.

Yeah, same here. I've been lurking for some time now (mostly due to research and whatnot), and am moving toward the 10 post threshold finally.
I am simply amazed with the zerohero ROM. I can't believe how quickly it responds. It really is a wonderful setup. DX seriously rocks as well, though I haven't messed with it in a while.
I generally go back and forth between those and the deck 2.3.7 using go launcher. That's a nice combo.
Sadly enough, this phone will probably go to my sister-in-law as she busted her Intercept (POS) and needs a phone. I'm trying to figure out what would be the easiest (most impressively working) ROM for her to use. . . she doesn't get into this sort of thing. . .

cm9 nightly droid 3 overclock

Ok I've been trying to overclock this phone a nice how to would ne awsome so Iam running cm9 nightly latest from hash of codes I would like to change cpu speed any way to modify this. I'm not new to android but obviosly am no dev how to use terminal emulator to achive this I'm running the dev/tty the not shure what command to use from there. Or possiblie a module or script to run thnx
Some users are finding they're "overclocked" out of the box on the new builds. If I recall correctly speed is bogomips x 2, so you're already 20% faster than some users. This is likely due to TI/Motorola binning the chips, but it may also have been done to prevent overheating elsewhere in the system even if the CPU is capable. All the overclocked ROMs I've seen have gone as far as the 1.2GHz mark so we may be maxed out at this point due to limitations elsewhere.
Sent from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
thnx for the feedback how do i run the commands in terminal emu
I need to see the code for this
But not shure what to type in to bring up The spot where all the data is stored for the cpu commands or to see the kernel info also I can try to determin from there I'm trying to see if not I got the sbf no worries for me at all any who I'm trying to get all the people together to work this lil thing out of cm9 try to get this going for peps who wanna save battery and go faster. I open chmod in terminal but where do Igo from there or if im even going the right direction please help
You are going to have to build it in to your rom or you can use one of TeamHaters CM9 roms. The kexec roms will not support any overclocking at the moment.

Geez, why is people so obsessed with overclocking?
Why don't you wait until we have a more stable rom?
Is not like a couple of hundred of mhz are going to make much of a difference at this point.

Yes, of course, you're sure leading the innovation and development.
You're just a spoiled brat asking for something you don't fully understand.
Overclocking our device is not going to make great differences now or even when it's stable.
To "run 20 things at once" we need RAM, not processor speed.
Overclocking doesn't save battery either.
Why do I even bother.

Some CPU's are marked at e-fuse level to be not stable on speeds higher than 1ghz on the factory, and the kexec kernel seems to be addressing that, according to a comment made on the kexec rom thread.

Spelling isn't the problem. Try some punctuation.
Because cm9 is meant to be stable and fast. Since various devices react differently to being overclocked, it would introduce instabilities in some devices. That's why the performance section of settings in cm roms says, if you change these settings, do not file bug reports. Once kexec cm9 is fully operational, im sure someone will build a oc kernel

i'm using the one with 19_m at the end ( see signature) it is the latest and seems to be ok, that's with Amaysim ( who use the optus network)
it can be installed 2 ways,
1) put pmg file in your sdk tools folder of PC and push via command prompt
2) put pmg file in root folder of sd card and boot to H-boot and it will find file and install itself
Note: make sure MD5 checksum is correct or else you can brick your phone.
files can be found in the "radio " topic in the moderation section
cheers

Well, I successfully installed it but it seems like it did minor differenceand nothhing to wifi range (have to be around 1.5 metre radius from the modem to get full bars and every 0.5 metres away from the modem takes out 1 bar, so max range of like 3.5 metres away from router :/ if you know any fix for that it would be appreciated) Thanks for the help so far

You cant use any kernel on any rom, because some kernels are made for specific roms/android versions/User Interfaces..
For Instance, Kernel 3.x works on CM10 (Not Released Publicly Yet)
Beastmode Kernel works on roms like Blackout, ViperVIVO, and MIUI..
l0st.prophet's kernel (XS ICS or something like that) works on most ICS Roms..
For you i suggest Beastmode. It works for the latest MIUI rom in dev section
If you flash the wrong kernel, u will notice problems like wifi not working etc... Just a flash a compatible kernel over it and it should get fixed.
The Kernel link is in Blackout Thread on the 2nd post. Just download it and flash in recovery :good:

Sent from one of the few remaining Incredible S'
Have you tried taking the back cover off and making sure the contacts are clean. And you have to make sure the cover is put back on properly. The radio and WiFi antenna are in the back cover.

yep, i've even tried that aluminium foil modification
I have had trouble with reception too, I did all that i could think of,
clean the contacts,
tried a new back cover,
used every radio under the sun (slight exaggeration)
the foil mod... etc
Whatever I did nothing seemed to help it.
But then one day i thought of electrical wires and thought if I could strip a wire back and just get a few strands of copper, it should work.... and IT DID!
now i have full bars where before I had little or none.
Moral of the story: When in doubt, use copper.

By the way, just a bit about me if anyone is wondering who the heck i am.
Im an experienced hacker and app developer for android devices. For the past 2 years i have been using the very problematic LG Thrive, which takes more work to make the roms work, than to bring the moon down to earth! My device is almost dead so i bought the HTC First. Ive been rooting and hacking android devices for many people including teachers at school and friends.
This is a totaly new device for me, and is a bit more complicated to root. Im going to try super one click on it ad see how it goes, or maybe z4root. Because i really dont feel like unlocking the darn bootloader and doing everything manually. As soon as i get it all done i will be posting a tutorial on my blog and here on xda for the new comers. Thats just what i usualy do.
Thanks for accepting me into your community guys.

I'm not that fast, but this phone isn't that complicated, so yes I might have one for you to test tonight.
The kernel is done, I'll push that to GitHub in a few min. It's gonna be 3.4.49
Now the device folders and vendor stuff. I'll probably end up building it tomorrow.
All the repos for this project are here: https://github.com/htc-first
Once I'm done with it all, I'll see if CM will be willing to accept it and make it an officially maintained device.

I'm running a test build now with the files I pulled from another developer's repos. I know it's gonna need a ton of work but if it actually builds and boots then there won't be much left to do.

Hi Rashed, We all LG-P500 community badly missing you right now. We are not able to flash Kitkat ROM by jenkins as old CWM and TWRP recoveries not supporting this. Please help : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432968&page=34
The thing is, the lg oo can't run 4.4. Ever. Kit Kat requires alot more ram than our phones have. That's why miui v5 won't work and stuff. So time to move on to another phone. Get one cheap brand new from cellularcountry.com

i found another correlation with the HTC One Mini and the HTC First
the Snapdragon 400 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)#Snapdragon_400
take a look at the screenshot attached here.
1. this means we are capable of overclock beyond 1.7 GHz, so 2 ghz could be possible
2. that means if anything we can just use drivers from the Mini if anything
3. not only can we port cm from the mini, but we could probably port sense 5 as well, and very very successfully integrate the two giving cm a sense 5 skin.

im not sure if there would be alot of demand for a sense 5 skinned cm rom, but i guess its something new. oh and JMZ's kernel allows the htc first to overclock upto 1.7Ghz, if you're into that, i think the phone is snappy enough as is.

Yeah sense 5 would be eww, sense 4 already uses 15% more ram than stock rom imagine sense 5 lol
I'd be willing to donate some money via paypal, you should post your email so people interested could help you get your hands on a first. They go for bargain bin prices on ebay.
